युधिष्ठिर उवाच एवमग्राह्यके तस्मिञ्ज्ञातिसंबन्धिमण्डले मित्रेष्वमित्रेष्वपि च कथं भावो विभाव्यते

Yudhiṣṭhira asked: If the circle of kin and relatives cannot be dealt with in this way, friends may become enemies. What should be one's sentiments then?

युधिष्ठिर ने पूछा: यदि रिश्तेदारों और रिश्तेदारों के साथ इस तरह से व्यवहार नहीं किया जा सकता है, तो दोस्त दुश्मन बन सकते हैं। तो फिर किसी की भावना क्या होनी चाहिए?

Bhīṣma replied: In this connection, an ancient history is recounted, about the conversation between Vāsudeva and Nārada, the celestial riṣi.

Vāsudeva said, "O Nārada! A person who is not a well-wisher should not get to know the supremely secret counsel, nor should a well-wisher who is not learned, or a learned person who is not in control of his soul.

वासुदेव ने कहा, "हे नारद! जो व्यक्ति शुभचिंतक नहीं है, उसे परम गुप्त सलाह को नहीं जानना चाहिए, न ही ऐसे शुभचिंतक को, जो विद्वान नहीं है, या विद्वान व्यक्ति को, जो अपनी आत्मा पर नियंत्रण नहीं रखता है।

स ते सौहृदमास्थाय किंचिद्वक्ष्यामि नारद कृत्स्नां च बुद्धिं संप्रेक्ष्य संपृच्छे त्रिदिवंगम

O Nārada! Because you have affectionate feelings towards me, I will tell you something. O one who can go to heaven! Having considered my entire intelligence, I will also ask you something.

हे नारद! चूँकि आपके मन में मेरे प्रति स्नेहपूर्ण भावना है इसलिए मैं आपसे कुछ कहूँगा। हे स्वर्ग जाने वाले! मैं भी अपनी सारी बुद्धि का विचार करके तुमसे कुछ पूछूँगा।

दास्यमैश्वर्यवादेन ज्ञातीनां वै करोम्यहम् अर्धभोक्तास्मि भोगानां वाग्दुरुक्तानि च क्षमे

I do not act so as to become a slave to my kin, by talking to them about their riches. I enjoy half the objects of pleasure and forgive harsh words spoken to me,

which crush my heart, like two kindling sticks rubbed together in a desire for fire. O riṣi of the gods! The words that are spoken harshly always torment me.

जो मेरे हृदय को कुचल देती हैं, जैसे आग की चाहत में दो जलती हुई लकड़ियां आपस में रगड़ जाती हैं। हे देवताओं के ऋषि! कठोर शब्दों से बोले गए शब्द मुझे हमेशा पीड़ा देते हैं।

बलं संकर्षणे नित्यं सौकुमार्यं पुनर्गदे रूपेण मत्तः प्रद्युम्नः सोऽसहायोऽस्मि नारद

Saṃkarṣaṇa always possesses strength and Gada is again delicate. O Nārada! Pradyumna surpasses me in beauty, but I have no aides.

संकर्षण में हमेशा ताकत होती है और गदा फिर से नाजुक है। हे नारद! प्रद्युम्न सुंदरता में मुझसे भी आगे है, लेकिन मेरा कोई सहायक नहीं है।

अन्ये हि सुमहाभागा बलवन्तो दुरासदाः नित्योत्थानेन संपन्ना नारदान्धकवृष्णयः

O Nārada! The others of the Andhaka and Vṛṣṇi lineages are extremely fortunate. They are powerful and difficult to assail. They are always full of enterprise.

हे नारद! अंधक और वृष्णि वंश के अन्य लोग अत्यंत भाग्यशाली हैं। वे शक्तिशाली हैं और उन पर आक्रमण करना कठिन है। वे हमेशा उद्यम से भरे रहते हैं।

यस्य न स्युर्न वै स स्याद्यस्य स्युः कृच्छ्रमेव तत् द्वाभ्यां निवारितो नित्यं वृणोम्येकतरं न च

Whether they are on your side, or whether they are not on your side, there is hardship. What can be a greater misery than to have Akrūra and Āhuka on the same side?

चाहे वे आपके पक्ष में हों, या चाहे वे आपके पक्ष में न हों, कठिनाई है। अक्रूर और आहुक के एक ही पक्ष में होने से बड़ा दुःख क्या हो सकता है?

स्यातां यस्याहुकाक्रूरौ किं नु दुःखतरं ततः यस्य वापि न तौ स्यातां किं नु दुःखतरं ततः

Both of them have always solicited me, but I have not opted for either of them. However, what can be a greater misery than not to have those two on your side?

उन दोनों ने हमेशा मुझसे अनुरोध किया है, लेकिन मैंने उनमें से किसी को भी नहीं चुना है। हालाँकि, उन दोनों का आपके पक्ष में न होना इससे बड़ा दुख क्या हो सकता है?

O great sage! I am like the mother of two who are engaged in a gambling match. If I wish for the victory of one, it is like defeat for the other.

हे महामुनि! मैं उन दो बच्चों की मां की तरह हूं जो जुए में लगे हुए हैं। यदि मैं एक की जीत की कामना करता हूं तो वह दूसरे के लिए हार के समान है।

ममैवं क्लिश्यमानस्य नारदोभयतः सदा वक्तुमर्हसि यच्छ्रेयो ज्ञातीनामात्मनस्तथा

O Nārada! These two always afflict me in this way. You should tell me what is beneficial for my kin and for my own self."

हे नारद! ये दोनों मुझे सदैव इसी प्रकार कष्ट देते हैं। आपको मुझे बताना चाहिए कि मेरे रिश्तेदारों और मेरे स्वयं के लिए क्या फायदेमंद है।"

नारद उवाच आपदो द्विविधाः कृष्ण बाह्याश्चाभ्यन्तराश्च ह प्रादुर्भवन्ति वार्ष्णेय स्वकृता यदि वान्यतः

Nārada replied, "O Kṛṣṇā! Disasters are of two kinds—the external and the internal. O Vārṣṇeya! They result from one's own deeds, or those of others.

नारद ने उत्तर दिया, "हे कृष्ण! विपत्तियाँ दो प्रकार की होती हैं - बाहरी और आंतरिक। हे वार्ष्णेय! वे स्वयं के कर्मों से उत्पन्न होती हैं, या दूसरों के कर्मों से।

सेयमाभ्यन्तरा तुभ्यमापत्कृच्छ्रा स्वकर्मजा अक्रूरभोजप्रभवाः सर्वे ह्येते तदन्वयाः

This difficulty is internal and is because of your own deeds. Because of Akrūra's power the Bhojā-s are on his side.

यह कठिनाई आंतरिक है और आपके अपने कर्मों के कारण है। अक्रूर की शक्ति के कारण भोज उनके पक्ष में हैं।

अर्थहेतोर्हि कामाद्वाद्वारा बीभत्सयापि वा आत्मना प्राप्तमैश्वर्यमन्यत्र प्रतिपादितम्

This is for the sake of riches, because of desire or because they are frightened by words or deeds. You obtained the prosperity for yourself, but gave it away to another.

यह धन के लिए है, इच्छा के कारण है या क्योंकि वे शब्दों या कार्यों से भयभीत हैं। तुमने समृद्धि तो अपने लिये प्राप्त की, परन्तु उसे दूसरे को दे दी।

कृतमूलमिदानीं तज्जातशब्दं सहायवत् न शक्यं पुनरादातुं वान्तमन्नमिव त्वया

You provided the foundation and he is now applauded in words and possesses aides. Like food that has been vomited out, you are incapable of taking it back.

आपने नींव प्रदान की और अब उसकी शब्दों में सराहना की जाती है और उसके पास सहयोगी हैं। उल्टी कर दिए गए भोजन की तरह, आप उसे वापस लेने में असमर्थ हैं।

बभ्रूग्रसेनयो राज्यं नाप्तुं शक्यं कथंचन ज्ञातिभेदभयात्कृष्ण त्वया चापि विशेषतः

O Kṛṣṇā! You can never take the kingdom back from Babhru and Ugrasena, especially because that will lead to conflict within the clan.

हे कृष्ण! आप बभ्रु और उग्रसेन से राज्य कभी वापस नहीं ले सकते, खासकर इसलिए क्योंकि इससे कबीले के भीतर संघर्ष पैदा हो जाएगा।

तच्चेत्सिध्येत्प्रयत्नेन कृत्वा कर्म सुदुष्करम् महाक्षयव्ययं वा स्याद्विनाशो वा पुनर्भवेत्

That will only be possible after trying hard and performing an extremely difficult task. There will be a great slaughter and perhaps complete destruction.

वह कठिन प्रयास और अत्यंत कठिन कार्य करने के बाद ही संभव होगा। बहुत बड़ा नरसंहार होगा और शायद संपूर्ण विनाश होगा।

अनायसेन शस्त्रेण मृदुना हृदयच्छिदा जिह्वामुद्धर सर्वेषां परिमृज्यानुमृज्य च

Therefore, use a weapon that is not made of steel, one that is mild, but is capable of piercing hearts. Sharpen that blade and use it to remove their tongues."

इसलिए ऐसे हथियार का प्रयोग करें जो स्टील का न बना हो, जो हल्का हो, लेकिन दिलों को छलनी करने में सक्षम हो। उस ब्लेड को तेज़ करो और उसका उपयोग उनकी जीभें हटाने के लिए करो।"

वासुदेव उवाच अनायसं मुने शस्त्रं मृदु विद्यामहं कथम् येनैषामुद्धरे जिह्वां परिमृज्यानुमृज्य च

Vāsudeva asked, "O sage! How will I know what is the weapon that is not made of steel and is mild? What will I sharpen and use to remove their tongues?"

वासुदेव ने पूछा, "हे ऋषि! मुझे कैसे पता चलेगा कि वह कौन सा हथियार है जो स्टील का नहीं बना है और हल्का है? मैं उनकी जीभ को हटाने के लिए किस चीज को तेज करूंगा और उसका उपयोग करूंगा?"

नारद उवाच शक्त्यान्नदानं सततं तितिक्षा दम आर्जवम् यथार्हप्रतिपूजा च शस्त्रमेतदनायसम्

Nārada replied, "Always give as muc of food as you are capable of. Be patient, self-controlled and upright. Honour those who must be revered. This is the weapon that is not made of steel.

नारद ने उत्तर दिया, "हमेशा उतना ही भोजन करें जितना आप कर सकें। धैर्यवान, आत्म-नियंत्रित और ईमानदार रहें। उन लोगों का सम्मान करें जिनका सम्मान किया जाना चाहिए। यह वह हथियार है जो स्टील से नहीं बना है।

ज्ञातीनां वक्तुकामानां कटूनि च लघूनि च गिरा त्वं हृदयं वाचं शमयस्व मनांसि च

Use words to pacify the hearts, the speech and the minds of the relatives who desire to speak bitter and slighting words.

जो परिजन कड़वे और तुच्छ वचन बोलने की इच्छा रखते हों, उनके हृदय, वाणी और मन को शान्त करने के लिए शब्दों का प्रयोग करें।

नामहापुरुषः कश्चिन्नानात्मा नासहायवान् महतीं धुरमादत्ते तामुद्यम्योरसा वह

Someone who is not a great man, someone who has not cleansed his soul and someone who is without aides cannot bear a great burden. Raise it aloft on your shoulders.

कोई व्यक्ति जो महान व्यक्ति नहीं है, जिसने अपनी आत्मा को शुद्ध नहीं किया है और जो कोई सहायक नहीं है वह बड़ा बोझ नहीं उठा सकता। इसे अपने कंधों पर ऊपर उठाएं.

सर्व एव गुरुं भारमनड्वान्वहते समे दुर्गे प्रतीकः सुगवो भारं वहति दुर्वहम्

Every one is capable of bearing a great burden on level terrain. Only an excellent bull can bear a load that is extremely heavy over uneven terrain.

प्रत्येक व्यक्ति समतल भूभाग पर भारी बोझ उठाने में सक्षम है। केवल एक उत्कृष्ट बैल ही असमान भूभाग पर अत्यधिक भारी भार सहन कर सकता है।

भेदाद्विनाशः संघानां संघमुख्योऽसि केशव यथा त्वां प्राप्य नोत्सीदेदयं संघस्तथा कुरु

An aggregation is destroyed if there is conflict within its ranks. O Keśava! You are the foremost of the aggregation. When it has obtained you, act so that the aggregation is not destroyed.

यदि किसी समूह के भीतर संघर्ष होता है तो एक एकत्रीकरण नष्ट हो जाता है। हे केशव! आप एकत्रीकरण में अग्रणी हैं। जब इसने आपको प्राप्त कर लिया है, तो कार्य करें ताकि एकत्रीकरण नष्ट न हो।

नान्यत्र बुद्धिक्षान्तिभ्यां नान्यत्रेन्द्रियनिग्रहात् नान्यत्र धनसंत्यागाद्गणः प्राज्ञेऽवतिष्ठते

Nothing other than prosperity, renunciation and generosity are established in a person who is wise.

बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति में समृद्धि, त्याग और उदारता के अतिरिक्त और कुछ स्थापित नहीं होता।

धन्यं यशस्यमायुष्यं स्वपक्षोद्भावनं शुभम् ज्ञातीनामविनाशः स्याद्यथा कृष्ण तथा कुरु

Ensuring the prosperity of one's own side is fortunate and glorious and ensures a long life. O Kṛṣṇā! Act so that there is no destruction of your relatives.

अपने पक्ष की समृद्धि सुनिश्चित करना सौभाग्यशाली और गौरवशाली होता है और लंबी आयु सुनिश्चित करता है। हे कृष्ण! ऐसा कार्य करो कि तुम्हारे सम्बन्धियों का विनाश न हो।

आयत्यां च तदात्वे च न तेऽस्त्यविदितं प्रभो षाड्गुण्यस्य विधानेन यात्रायानविधौ तथा

O lord! Whether it is about the six aspects of policy or marching out on an expedition, you are in control of everything and everything is known to you.

हे भगवान! चाहे वह नीति के छह पहलुओं के बारे में हो या किसी अभियान पर निकलने के बारे में हो, हर चीज पर आपका नियंत्रण होता है और हर चीज आपको पता होती है।

माधवाः कुकुरा भोजाः सर्वे चान्धकवृष्णयः त्वय्यासक्ता महाबाहो लोका लोकेश्वराश्च ये

O mightyarmed one! The Mādhava-s, the Kukura-s, the Bhojā-s, the Andhaka-s and the Vṛṣṇi-s are dependent on you, just as the worlds and the lords of the worlds are.

हे पराक्रमी! माधव, कुकुरा, भोज, अंधक और वृष्णि आप पर निर्भर हैं, जैसे संसार और संसार के स्वामी आप पर निर्भर हैं।

उपासते हि त्वद्बुद्धिमृषयश्चापि माधव त्वं गुरुः सर्वभूतानां जानीषे त्वं गतागतम् त्वामासाद्य यदुश्रेष्ठमेधन्ते ज्ञातिनः सुखम्

O Mādhava! Even the riṣi-s worship your intelligence. You are the preceptor of all beings. You know what has gone and what will come. O foremost among the Yadu lineage! Resorting to you, your relatives enjoy happiness."

हे माधव! ऋषि-मुनि भी आपकी बुद्धि की पूजा करते हैं। आप समस्त प्राणियों के गुरु हैं। तुम्हें पता है क्या गया और क्या आएगा. हे यदु वंश में अग्रणी! आपका सहारा लेकर आपके रिश्तेदार सुख भोगते हैं।"
