भीष्म उवाच अत्रैवोदाहरन्तीममितिहासं पुरातनम् शतक्रतोश्च संवादं नमुचेश्च युधिष्ठिर

Bhīṣma said: O Yudhiṣṭhira! In this connection, the ancient history of a conversation between Śatakratu and Namuci is recounted.

भीष्म ने कहा: हे युधिष्ठिर! इस संबंध में शतक्रतु और नमुचि के बीच वार्तालाप का प्राचीन इतिहास वर्णित है।

श्रिया विहीनमासीनमक्षोभ्यमिव सागरम् भवाभवज्ञं भूतानामित्युवाच पुरंदरः

He was seated, bereft of prosperity, like an ocean that wasn't agitated, knowledgable about the creation and destruction of all beings. Purandara spoke to him.

वह समृद्धि से रहित बैठा हुआ था, एक महासागर की तरह जो उत्तेजित नहीं था, सभी प्राणियों के निर्माण और विनाश के बारे में जानता था। पुरंदर ने उनसे बात की.

बद्धः पाशैश्च्युतः स्थानाद्द्विषतां वशमागतः श्रिया विहीनो नमुचे शोचस्याहो न शोचसि

"O Namuci! You have been tied down in bonds. You have been dislodged from your place. You are under the subjugation of your enemies. You are devoid of prosperity. Are you grieving, or are you not grieving?"

"हे नमुचि! तुम्हें बंधनों में बांध दिया गया है। तुम्हें अपने स्थान से बेदखल कर दिया गया है। तुम अपने शत्रुओं के अधीन हो। तुम समृद्धि से वंचित हो। क्या तुम शोक कर रहे हो, या तुम शोक नहीं कर रहे हो?"

नमुचिरुवाच अनवाप्यं च शोकेन शरीरं चोपतप्यते अमित्राश्च प्रहृष्यन्ति नास्ति शोके सहायता

Namuci replied, "Nothing changes because of sorrow. The body alone is afflicted and enemies are delighted. No help is brought by grieving.

नामुसी ने उत्तर दिया, "दुःख के कारण कुछ भी नहीं बदलता है। केवल शरीर ही पीड़ित होता है और शत्रु प्रसन्न होते हैं। शोक करने से कोई सहायता नहीं मिलती।"

तस्माच्छक्र न शोचामि सर्वं ह्येवेदमन्तवत् संतापाद्भ्रश्यते रूपं धर्मश्चैव सुरेश्वर

O Śākra! I know that everything has an end. Therefore, I am not sorrowing. O lord of the gods! Grief destroys beauty and dharma.

हे शक्र! मैं जानता हूं कि हर चीज का अंत होता है. इसलिए मुझे कोई दुःख नहीं हो रहा है. हे देवताओं के स्वामी! दुःख सौन्दर्य और धर्म को नष्ट कर देता है।

विनीय खलु तद्दुःखमागतं वैमनस्यजम् ध्यातव्यं मनसा हृद्यं कल्याणं संविजानता

One must indeed subdue the sorrow that arises in one's mind. Knowing what is beneficial, one must meditate on that in one's mind and in one's heart.

मनुष्य को अपने मन में उत्पन्न होने वाले दुःख को अवश्य ही वश में करना चाहिए। जो लाभदायक है उसे जानकर अपने मन और हृदय में उसका ध्यान करना चाहिए।

यथा यथा हि पुरुषः कल्याणे कुरुते मनः तदैवास्य प्रसीदन्ति सर्वार्था नात्र संशयः

There is no doubt that this is capable of ensuring success in everything.

इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि यह हर काम में सफलता सुनिश्चित करने में सक्षम है।

एकः शास्ता न द्वितीयोऽस्ति शास्ता; गर्भे शयानं पुरुषं शास्ति शास्ता तेनानुशिष्टः प्रवणादिवोदकं; यथा नियुक्तोऽस्मि तथा वहामि

There is one ordainer. There is no second ordainer. The ordainer ordains the man, as he lies down in the womb. I am instructed by him, like water flowing downwards. I flow as I am appointed.

एक ही आयोजक है. कोई दूसरा नियंता नहीं है. नियंता मनुष्य को वैसे ही नियुक्त करता है, जैसे वह गर्भ में होता है। मुझे उसके द्वारा निर्देश दिया गया है, जैसे पानी नीचे की ओर बहता है। मैं वैसे ही बहता हूँ जैसे मेरी नियुक्ति होती है।

भावाभावावभिजानन्गरीयो; जानामि श्रेयो न तु तत्करोमि आशाः सुशर्म्याः सुहृदां सुकुर्व;न्यथा नियुक्तोऽस्मि तथा वहामि

I know about existence and non-existence and about that which is superior. However, despite knowing what is best, I do not act in that way. Submerged in hopes, dharma and well-wishers, I do good deeds and their reverse. I flow as I am appointed.

मैं अस्तित्व और अनस्तित्व के बारे में और जो श्रेष्ठ है उसके बारे में जानता हूं। हालाँकि, यह जानने के बावजूद कि सबसे अच्छा क्या है, मैं उस तरह से कार्य नहीं करता। मैं आशा, धर्म और शुभचिंतकों में डूबा हुआ अच्छे कर्म करता हूं और उनका उल्टा भी करता हूं। मैं वैसे ही बहता हूँ जैसे मेरी नियुक्ति होती है।

यथा यथास्य प्राप्तव्यं प्राप्नोत्येव तथा तथा भवितव्यं यथा यच्च भवत्येव तथा तथा

Whatever can be obtained is what will be obtained. Whatever is meant to happen is what will happen.

जो प्राप्त किया जा सकता है वही प्राप्त किया जायेगा। जो होना है वही होगा।

यत्र यत्रैव संयुङ्क्ते धाता गर्भं पुनः पुनः तत्र तत्रैव वसति न यत्र स्वयमिच्छति

As has been decided by the creator, one will repeatedly dwell in different wombs. One doesn't go there because of one's own wishes.

जैसा कि निर्माता ने तय किया है, व्यक्ति को बार-बार अलग-अलग गर्भ में रहना होगा। वहां कोई अपनी इच्छा से नहीं जाता.

भावो योऽयमनुप्राप्तो भवितव्यमिदं मम इति यस्य सदा भावो न स मुह्येत्कदाचन

The existence that I have obtained is because of my destiny. A person whose sentiments are like this will never be confused.

मुझे जो अस्तित्व मिला है वह मेरे भाग्य के कारण है। जिस व्यक्ति की भावना ऐसी होगी वह कभी भ्रमित नहीं होगा।

पर्यायैर्हन्यमानानामभियोक्ता न विद्यते दुःखमेतत्तु यद्द्वेष्टा कर्ताहमिति मन्यते

Respect and the lack of a name occur progressively. Only a person who thinks his own self to be the actor sees unhappiness in this.

सम्मान और नाम की कमी उत्तरोत्तर घटित होती रहती है। स्वयं को अभिनेता समझने वाला व्यक्ति ही इसमें दुःख देखता है।

ऋषींश्च देवांश्च महासुरांश्च; त्रैविद्यवृद्धांश्च वने मुनींश्च कान्नापदो नोपनमन्ति लोके; परावरज्ञास्तु न संभ्रमन्ति

In this world, who is not afflicted by catastrophes—the sages, the gods, the great āsura-s, the aged ones who know the three Veda-s and hermits in the forest? Those who know the supreme are not frightened by this.

इस संसार में कौन प्रलय से पीड़ित नहीं है - ऋषि, देवता, महान असुर, तीन वेदों को जानने वाले वृद्ध और जंगल में साधु? जो लोग परम को जानते हैं वे इससे भयभीत नहीं होते।

न पण्डितः क्रुध्यति नापि सज्जते; न चापि संसीदति न प्रहृष्यति न चार्थकृच्छ्रव्यसनेषु शोचति; स्थितः प्रकृत्या हिमवानिवाचलः

No anger is generated in a learned person. He does not suffer. Nor is he delighted. He does not sorrow if there is a hardship on account of lack of riches, or some other kind of difficulty. He is established, as naturally immobile as the Himālaya-s.

विद्वान व्यक्ति में क्रोध उत्पन्न नहीं होता। उसे कष्ट नहीं होता. न ही वह प्रसन्न है. यदि धन की कमी या किसी अन्य प्रकार की कठिनाई के कारण कोई कठिनाई हो तो वह दुःखी नहीं होता। वह स्थापित है, हिमालय की तरह स्वाभाविक रूप से स्थिर है।

यमर्थसिद्धिः परमा न हर्षये;त्तथैव काले व्यसनं न मोहयेत् सुखं च दुःखं च तथैव मध्यमं; निषेवते यः स धुरंधरो नरः

The man who is not elated by the highest success, nor bewildered by calamity when it arises; who experiences pleasure, pain, and the middle state with the same equanimity—he is a leader among men, capable of bearing the burden.

जो मनुष्य न तो सर्वोच्च सफलता से प्रसन्न होता है और न विपत्ति आने पर घबराता है; जो सुख, दुःख और मध्यम अवस्था को समान भाव से अनुभव करता है - वह मनुष्यों में अग्रणी है, बोझ सहन करने में सक्षम है।

यां यामवस्थां पुरुषोऽधिगच्छे;त्तस्यां रमेतापरितप्यमानः एवं प्रवृद्धं प्रणुदेन्मनोजं; संतापमायासकरं शरीरात्

A man must always be cheerful and must not torment himself, even when he confronts a downfall. He must control the torment that grows in his mind, because that harms the body.

मनुष्य को सदैव प्रसन्न रहना चाहिए और स्वयं को कष्ट नहीं देना चाहिए, भले ही वह पतन का सामना कर रहा हो। उसे अपने मन में पनपने वाली पीड़ा पर नियंत्रण रखना चाहिए, क्योंकि वह शरीर को नुकसान पहुँचाती है।

तत्सदः स परिषत्सभासदः; प्राप्य यो न कुरुते सभाभयम् धर्मतत्त्वमवगाह्य बुद्धिमा;न्योऽभ्युपैति स पुमान्धुरंधरः

He who, as an assessor or member of that assembly, does not succumb to fear upon entering the congregation; the wise man who, having immersed himself in the fundamental truth of dharma, approaches the gathering—that man is truly capable of bearing the burden of leadership.

वह, जो उस सभा के एक मूल्यांकनकर्ता या सदस्य के रूप में, सभा में प्रवेश करने पर डर का शिकार नहीं होता; जो बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति धर्म के मूल सत्य में डूबकर सभा में आता है, वह व्यक्ति वास्तव में नेतृत्व का भार उठाने में सक्षम होता है।

प्राज्ञस्य कर्माणि दुरन्वयानि; न वै प्राज्ञो मुह्यति मोहकाले स्थानाच्च्युतश्चेन्न मुमोह गौतम;स्तावत्कृच्छ्रामापदं प्राप्य वृद्धः

The deeds of a wise man are difficult to fathom. Even when it is a time for confusion, a wise person is not confused. Even when he is dislodged from his position and faces a hardship and a disaster because of this, like Gautama in his old age, he is not confused.

बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति के कर्मों को समझना कठिन होता है। भ्रम का समय होने पर भी बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति भ्रमित नहीं होता। यहां तक ​​कि जब वह अपने पद से हटा दिया जाता है और इसके कारण उसे बुढ़ापे में गौतम की तरह कठिनाई और आपदा का सामना करना पड़ता है, तब भी वह भ्रमित नहीं होता है।

न मन्त्रबलवीर्येण प्रज्ञया पौरुषेण वा अलभ्यं लभते मर्त्यस्तत्र का परिदेवना

In the world of the mortal, one cannot obtain what is not meant to be obtained through mantra-s, strength, valour, wisdom and manliness. Why should one sorrow on account of that?

नश्वर संसार में, कोई वह प्राप्त नहीं कर सकता जो मंत्र, शक्ति, वीरता, बुद्धि और पुरुषार्थ के माध्यम से प्राप्त नहीं किया जाना चाहिए। उसके कारण किसी को दुःख क्यों होना चाहिए?

यदेवमनुजातस्य धातारो विदधुः पुरा तदेवानुभविष्यामि किं मे मृत्युः करिष्यति

In ancient times, the creator ordained this, before I was born. What was ordained has happened. What can death do to me?

प्राचीन काल में, मेरे जन्म से पहले, निर्माता ने इसे निर्धारित किया था। जो नियत किया गया था वह हो गया है। मौत मेरा क्या कर सकती है?

लब्धव्यान्येव लभते गन्तव्यान्येव गच्छति प्राप्तव्यान्येव प्राप्नोति दुःखानि च सुखानि च

One obtains what was meant to be obtained. One goes where one is meant to go. One gets what is meant to be got, unhappiness or happiness.

व्यक्ति को वही प्राप्त होता है जो प्राप्त करना होता है। व्यक्ति को जहां जाना होता है वहीं जाता है। व्यक्ति को वही मिलता है जो मिलना चाहिए, दुख या सुख।

एतद्विदित्वा कार्त्स्न्येन यो न मुह्यति मानवः कुशलः सुखदुःखेषु स वै सर्वधनेश्वरः

A man who knows all of this is not confused. He is skilled in the midst of joy and misery and is the lord of all riches.

जो मनुष्य यह सब जानता है वह भ्रमित नहीं होता। वह सुख और दुख के बीच कुशल है और सभी धन का स्वामी है।
