भीष्म उवाच ततस्तं लुब्धकः पश्यन्कृपयाभिपरिप्लुतः कपोतमग्नौ पतितं वाक्यं पुनरुवाच ह

Bhīṣma said: On seeing that the pigeon had descended into the fire, Lubdhaka was overcome with compassion and again spoke these words.

भीष्म ने कहा: यह देखकर कि कबूतर आग में उतर गया है, लुब्धक करुणा से अभिभूत हो गया और उसने फिर से ये शब्द बोले।

किमीदृशं नृशंसेन मया कृतमबुद्धिना भविष्यति हि मे नित्यं पातकं हृदि जीवतः

"In my stupidity, I have committed a violent deed like this. As long as I am alive, this sin will always be lodged in my heart."

"अपनी मूर्खता में मैंने ऐसा हिंसक कार्य किया है। जब तक मैं जीवित हूं, यह पाप सदैव मेरे हृदय में बसा रहेगा।"

स विनिन्दन्नथात्मानं पुनः पुनरुवाच ह धिङ्मामस्तु सुदुर्बुद्धिं सदा निकृतिनिश्चयम् शुभं कर्म परित्यज्य योऽहं शकुनिलुब्धकः

Condemning himself, he repeatedly kept speaking in this way. "Shame on my great stupidity and the deceitful conduct I have always engaged in. Having abandoned auspicious deeds, I have sought to capture birds. I have resorted to violence.

वह स्वयं की निंदा करते हुए बार-बार इसी प्रकार बोलते रहे। "मेरी बड़ी मूर्खता और उस कपटपूर्ण आचरण को धिक्कार है, जिसमें मैं सदैव लगा रहता हूँ। मैंने शुभ कर्मों को त्यागकर पक्षियों को पकड़ने का प्रयत्न किया है। मैंने हिंसा का सहारा लिया है।"

नृशंसस्य ममाद्यायं प्रत्यादेशो न संशयः दत्तः स्वमांसं ददता कपोतेन महात्मना

There is no doubt that, by offering me its own flesh, the great-souled pigeon has instructed me.

इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि, मुझे अपना मांस देकर, महान आत्मा वाले कबूतर ने मुझे निर्देश दिया है।

सोऽहं त्यक्ष्ये प्रियान्प्राणान्पुत्रदारं विसृज्य च उपदिष्टो हि मे धर्मः कपोतेनातिधर्मिणा

I will abandon my sons and wife and give up my own beloved life. The pigeon, extremely devoted to dharma, has instructed me about dharma.

मैं अपने पुत्रों और पत्नी को त्याग दूँगा और अपना प्रिय जीवन भी त्याग दूँगा। धर्म के प्रति अत्यंत समर्पित कबूतर ने मुझे धर्म का उपदेश दिया है।

अद्य प्रभृति देहं स्वं सर्वभोगैर्विवर्जितम् यथा स्वल्पं जलं ग्रीष्मे शोषयिष्याम्यहं तथा

I will offer up my own body and avoid all objects of pleasure. I will shrivel it up, like a little bit of water during the summer.

मैं अपना शरीर त्याग दूँगा और सुख की सभी वस्तुओं से दूर रहूँगा। मैं इसे गर्मियों के दौरान थोड़े से पानी की तरह सिकोड़ दूँगा।

क्षुत्पिपासातपसहः कृशो धमनिसंततः उपवासैर्बहुविधैश्चरिष्ये पारलौकिकम्

I will endure the torment of hunger and thirst. I will become lean, as if I am made up of veins. To ensure the worlds hereafter, I will observe many different kinds of fasting.

मैं भूख-प्यास की यातना सहूँगा। मैं दुबला हो जाऊँगा, मानो रगों से बना हूँ। परलोक को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए मैं अनेक प्रकार के व्रत करूँगा।

अहो देहप्रदानेन दर्शितातिथिपूजना तस्माद्धर्मं चरिष्यामि धर्मो हि परमा गतिः दृष्टो हि धर्मो धर्मिष्ठैर्यादृशो विहगोत्तमे

Āla-s! By giving up its own body, it has shown me how guests must be treated. Therefore, I will follow dharma. Dharma is the supreme objective. O supreme among birds! Dharma is seen to be that which has been followed by that foremost practitioner of dharma."

इला-स! इसने अपना शरीर त्याग कर मुझे यह दिखा दिया कि अतिथियों के साथ कैसा व्यवहार करना चाहिए। इसलिए मैं धर्म का पालन करूंगा. धर्म ही सर्वोच्च उद्देश्य है. हे पक्षियों में श्रेष्ठ! धर्म वह माना जाता है जिसका पालन धर्म के अग्रणी अभ्यासकर्ता द्वारा किया जाता है।"

एवमुक्त्वा विनिश्चित्य रौद्रकर्मा स लुब्धकः महाप्रस्थानमाश्रित्य प्रययौ संशितव्रतः

Having spoken this, Lubdhaka, the performer of evil deeds, became rigid in his vows and resolved to depart on mahāprasthāna.

इतना कहकर दुष्ट कर्म करने वाला लुब्धक अपनी प्रतिज्ञा में दृढ़ हो गया और उसने महाप्रस्थान पर प्रस्थान करने का निश्चय किया।

ततो यष्टिं शलाकाश्च क्षारकं पञ्जरं तथा तांश्च बद्धा कपोतान्स संप्रमुच्योत्ससर्ज ह

He discarded his staff, his pointed stick, his net and his cage. He also freed the imprisoned pigeons and departed.

उसने अपनी लाठी, अपनी नुकीली छड़ी, अपना जाल और अपना पिंजरा त्याग दिया। उसने कैद कबूतरों को भी आज़ाद कर दिया और चला गया।
