भीष्म उवाच इत्येवमुक्त्वा वचनं ब्रह्मर्षिः सुमहातपाः प्रातिष्ठत शुकः सिद्धिं हित्वा लोकांश्चतुर्विधान्

Bhishma said: Having spoken these words, the great ascetic, the Brahma-sage, Shuka, attained perfection and abandoned the four kinds of worlds.

भीष्म ने कहा: इन शब्दों को कहने के बाद, महान तपस्वी, ब्रह्म-ऋषि, शुक ने पूर्णता प्राप्त की और चार प्रकार के संसारों को त्याग दिया।

तमो ह्यष्टविधं हित्वा जहौ पञ्चविधं रजः ततः सत्त्वं जहौ धीमांस्तदद्भुतमिवाभवत्

Having abandoned the eight kinds of darkness and the five kinds of passion, the wise one then abandoned goodness. That was indeed wonderful.

आठ प्रकार के अंधकार और पांच प्रकार के जुनून को त्यागने के बाद, बुद्धिमान ने अच्छाई को त्याग दिया। वह सचमुच अद्भुत था।

ततस्तस्मिन्पदे नित्ये निर्गुणे लिङ्गवर्जिते ब्रह्मणि प्रत्यतिष्ठत्स विधूमोऽग्निरिव ज्वलन्

Then he settled down in that eternal, qualityless, and signless Brahman, like a fire burning without smoke.

फिर वह उस शाश्वत, गुणहीन और लक्षणहीन ब्रह्म में, बिना धुंए के जलती हुई आग की तरह स्थित हो गया।

उल्कापाता दिशां दाहा भूमिकम्पास्तथैव च प्रादुर्भूताः क्षणे तस्मिंस्तदद्भुतमिवाभवत्

At that moment, meteors fell, the directions were burned, and earthquakes occurred, which seemed to be a miracle.

उसी समय उल्काएँ गिरीं, दिशाएँ जल गईं और भूकम्प आये, जो चमत्कार प्रतीत हुआ।

द्रुमाः शाखाश्च मुमुचुः शिखराणि च पर्वताः निर्घातशब्दैश्च गिरिर्हिमवान्दीर्यतीव ह

The trees and branches and the peaks of the mountains fell down. The mountain Himalaya seemed to be breaking with the sound of the thunder.

वृक्ष, शाखाएँ तथा पर्वतों की चोटियाँ गिर पड़ीं। गड़गड़ाहट की आवाज से हिमालय पर्वत टूटता हुआ प्रतीत हो रहा था।

न बभासे सहस्रांशुर्न जज्वाल च पावकः ह्रदाश्च सरितश्चैव चुक्षुभुः सागरास्तथा

The thousand-rayed sun did not shine, the fire did not blaze, the lakes, the rivers and the oceans were agitated.

हज़ार किरणों वाला सूरज नहीं चमका, आग नहीं भड़की, झीलें, नदियाँ और महासागर उत्तेजित हो गए।

ववर्ष वासवस्तोयं रसवच्च सुगन्धि च ववौ समीरणश्चापि दिव्यगन्धवहः शुचिः

Indra rained down water, tasty and fragrant. The wind blew, carrying divine fragrance and pure.

इन्द्र ने स्वादिष्ट और सुगन्धित जल की वर्षा की। दिव्य सुगंध और पवित्र वायु चली।

स शृङ्गेऽप्रतिमे दिव्ये हिमवन्मेरुसंभवे संश्लिष्टे श्वेतपीते द्वे रुक्मरूप्यमये शुभे

On the two horns, incomparable, divine, born of the Himalayas and Meru, white and yellow, joined together, made of gold and silver, auspicious.

दो सींगों पर, अतुलनीय, दिव्य, हिमालय और मेरु से उत्पन्न, सफेद और पीले, एक साथ जुड़े हुए, सोने और चांदी से बने, शुभ।

शतयोजनविस्तारे तिर्यगूर्ध्वं च भारत उदीचीं दिशमाश्रित्य रुचिरे संददर्श ह

O descendant of Bharata, he saw the beautiful city, extending a hundred yojanas in length and breadth, in the northern direction.

हे भरत के वंशज, उन्होंने उत्तर दिशा में सौ योजन लंबाई और चौड़ाई में फैले हुए सुंदर शहर को देखा।

सोऽविशङ्केन मनसा तथैवाभ्यपतच्छुकः ततः पर्वतशृङ्गे द्वे सहसैव द्विधाकृते अदृश्येतां महाराज तदद्भुतमिवाभवत्

The parrot, with a fearless mind, flew in the same way. Then, two mountain peaks were suddenly split into two. O great king, they appeared to be two. It was wonderful.

तोता निर्भय मन से वैसे ही उड़ गया। तभी दो पर्वत चोटियाँ अचानक दो भागों में विभाजित हो गईं। हे महान राजा, वे दो प्रतीत होते थे। यह अद्भुत था.

ततः पर्वतशृङ्गाभ्यां सहसैव विनिःसृतः न च प्रतिजघानास्य स गतिं पर्वतोत्तमः

Then he suddenly came out from the mountain peaks, and the best of mountains did not obstruct his movement.

फिर वह अचानक पर्वत शिखरों से बाहर आ गया, और सर्वोत्तम पर्वतों ने भी उसकी गति में बाधा नहीं डाली।

ततो महानभूच्छब्दो दिवि सर्वदिवौकसाम् गन्धर्वाणामृषीणां च ये च शैलनिवासिनः

Then there was a great sound in heaven of all the gods, gandharvas, sages, and those who dwell in the mountains.

तब स्वर्ग में सभी देवताओं, गंधर्वों, ऋषियों और पर्वतों पर रहने वाले लोगों की महान ध्वनि गूंज उठी।

दृष्ट्वा शुकमतिक्रान्तं पर्वतं च द्विधाकृतम् साधु साध्विति तत्रासीन्नादः सर्वत्र भारत

Seeing the mountain split in two and the parrot flying over it, there was a cry of "Well done! Well done!" everywhere, O descendant of Bharata.

पहाड़ को दो भागों में बंटा हुआ और उस पर उड़ते तोते को देखकर "शाबाश! शाबाश!" की चीख निकल गई। हर जगह, हे भरत के वंशज!

स पूज्यमानो देवैश्च गन्धर्वैरृषिभिस्तथा यक्षराक्षससंघैश्च विद्याधरगणैस्तथा

He was worshipped by the gods, gandharvas, sages, hosts of yakshas and rakshasas, and groups of vidyadharas.

उनकी पूजा देवताओं, गंधर्वों, ऋषियों, यक्षों और राक्षसों के समूह और विद्याधरों के समूहों द्वारा की जाती थी।

दिव्यैः पुष्पैः समाकीर्णमन्तरिक्षं समन्ततः आसीत्किल महाराज शुकाभिपतने तदा

The sky was filled with divine flowers all around. O great king, it was so at the time of the descent of the parrot.

आकाश चारों ओर दिव्य पुष्पों से भर गया। हे महान राजा, तोते के अवतरण के समय ऐसा ही था।

ततो मन्दाकिनीं रम्यामुपरिष्टादभिव्रजन् शुको ददर्श धर्मात्मा पुष्पितद्रुमकाननाम्

Then, going up to the beautiful Mandākinī, the righteous Śuka saw a forest with flowering trees.

फिर, सुंदर मंदाकिनी के पास जाते हुए, धर्मात्मा शुक ने फूलों के पेड़ों वाला एक जंगल देखा।

तस्यां क्रीडन्त्यभिरताः स्नान्ति चैवाप्सरोगणाः शून्याकारं निराकाराः शुकं दृष्ट्वा विवाससः

The groups of Apsarases sport and bathe in it, but when they see the empty form, the formless, naked Śuka, they are frightened and flee.

अप्सराओं के समूह उसमें क्रीड़ा करते हैं और स्नान करते हैं, लेकिन जब वे खाली रूप, निराकार, नग्न शुक को देखते हैं, तो वे भयभीत हो जाते हैं और भाग जाते हैं।

तं प्रक्रमन्तमाज्ञाय पिता स्नेहसमन्वितः उत्तमां गतिमास्थाय पृष्ठतोऽनुससार ह

Knowing that he was going away, his father, full of affection, followed him from behind, having resorted to the best means of conveyance.

यह जानकर कि वह दूर जा रहा है, उसके पिता, स्नेह से भरे हुए, परिवहन के सर्वोत्तम साधनों का सहारा लेकर, पीछे से उसके पीछे चले गए।

शुकस्तु मारुतादूर्ध्वं गतिं कृत्वान्तरिक्षगाम् दर्शयित्वा प्रभावं स्वं सर्वभूतोऽभवत्तदा

But Śuka, having gone up above the wind, and having shown his power by going through the air, became all things.

लेकिन शुक, हवा से ऊपर चला गया, और हवा के माध्यम से जाकर अपनी शक्ति दिखाई, सब कुछ बन गया।

महायोगगतिं त्वग्र्यां व्यासोत्थाय महातपाः निमेषान्तरमात्रेण शुकाभिपतनं ययौ

The great ascetic Vyasa, having risen, went to the supreme path of great yoga, in an instant, to the place where the parrot had fallen.

महान तपस्वी व्यास उठकर, एक क्षण में, महान योग के सर्वोच्च पथ पर चले गए, उस स्थान पर जहां तोता गिरा था।

स ददर्श द्विधा कृत्वा पर्वताग्रं शुकं गतम् शशंसुरृषयस्तस्मै कर्म पुत्रस्य तत्तदा

He saw the son, having divided the mountain-top, gone to the top of a tree. The sages told him about the deed of his son.

उसने देखा कि बेटा पहाड़ की चोटी को बांटकर एक पेड़ की चोटी पर चला गया है। ऋषियों ने उन्हें अपने पुत्र के कृत्य के बारे में बताया।

ततः शुकेति दीर्घेण शैक्षेणाक्रन्दितस्तदा स्वयं पित्रा स्वरेणोच्चैस्त्रीँल्लोकाननुनाद्य वै

Then, at that time, he was called out by his father with a long and loud cry, "Shuka!" and the three worlds were filled with his voice.

तभी, उसी समय, उसके पिता ने उसे लम्बी और ऊँची आवाज में पुकारा, "शुका!" और तीनों लोक उसकी वाणी से भर गये।

शुकः सर्वगतो भूत्वा सर्वात्मा सर्वतोमुखः प्रत्यभाषत धर्मात्मा भोःशब्देनानुनादयन्

Having become all-pervading, the soul of all, facing all directions, the virtuous-souled Śuka, resounding with the word "Bhoh", replied.

सर्वव्यापी, सबकी आत्मा बनकर, सभी दिशाओं की ओर मुख करके पुण्यात्मा शुक ने "भोः" शब्द को गूँजते हुए उत्तर दिया।

तत एकाक्षरं नादं भो इत्येव समीरयन् प्रत्याहरज्जगत्सर्वमुच्चैः स्थावरजङ्गमम्

Then, uttering the one-syllabled sound "Bho" (O), he withdrew the entire world, both the immobile and the mobile.

फिर, एक अक्षर वाली ध्वनि "भो" (ओ) का उच्चारण करते हुए, उन्होंने स्थावर और जंगम दोनों तरह से पूरी दुनिया को वापस ले लिया।

ततः प्रभृति चाद्यापि शब्दानुच्चारितान्पृथक् गिरिगह्वरपृष्ठेषु व्याजहार शुकं प्रति

And from that time till now, he has been uttering separately the words not uttered before, to the parrot, in the recesses of the mountains.

और उस समय से अब तक वह पहाड़ों की ओट में तोते से वे शब्द अलग-अलग बोलता आ रहा है, जो पहले नहीं कहे गए थे।

अन्तर्हितः प्रभावं तु दर्शयित्वा शुकस्तदा गुणान्संत्यज्य शब्दादीन्पदमध्यगमत्परम्

Then the parrot, having displayed his power, disappeared, and having abandoned the qualities of sound and the rest, he attained the supreme state.

तब तोता अपनी शक्ति प्रदर्शित करके अदृश्य हो गया और ध्वनि आदि गुणों को त्यागकर परम गति को प्राप्त हो गया।

महिमानं तु तं दृष्ट्वा पुत्रस्यामिततेजसः निषसाद गिरिप्रस्थे पुत्रमेवानुचिन्तयन्

Seeing the greatness of his son of unlimited splendour, he sat on the slope of a mountain, thinking of his son.

अपने असीम वैभवशाली पुत्र की महानता को देखकर वह एक पहाड़ की ढलान पर बैठकर अपने पुत्र के बारे में सोचने लगा।

ततो मन्दाकिनीतीरे क्रीडन्तोऽप्सरसां गणाः आसाद्य तमृषिं सर्वाः संभ्रान्ता गतचेतसः

Then the groups of Apsarās, playing on the bank of Mandākinī, having approached that sage, all became confused and lost their senses.

तब मन्दाकिनी के तट पर क्रीड़ा कर रही अप्सराओं के समूह जब उन ऋषि के पास आये तो वे सब भ्रमित हो गये और अपनी सुध-बुध खो बैठे।

जले निलिल्यिरे काश्चित्काश्चिद्गुल्मान्प्रपेदिरे वसनान्याददुः काश्चिद्दृष्ट्वा तं मुनिसत्तमम्

Some of them plunged into the water, some of them went to the bushes, and some of them gave their garments to the best of sages on seeing him.

उनमें से कुछ पानी में कूद गये, कुछ झाड़ियों में चले गये और कुछ ने श्रेष्ठ ऋषियों को देखते ही अपने वस्त्र उन्हें दे दिये।

तां मुक्ततां तु विज्ञाय मुनिः पुत्रस्य वै तदा सक्ततामात्मनश्चैव प्रीतोऽभूद्व्रीडितश्च ह

When the sage knew that his son had attained liberation, and that he himself was attached to the world, he was pleased and ashamed.

जब ऋषि को पता चला कि उनके बेटे को मुक्ति मिल गई है, और वह स्वयं संसार से आसक्त है, तो वे प्रसन्न हुए और लज्जित हुए।

तं देवगन्धर्ववृतो महर्षिगणपूजितः पिनाकहस्तो भगवानभ्यागच्छत शंकरः

The Lord Śiva, surrounded by gods and Gandharvas, worshipped by hosts of great sages, with the Pināka in his hand, came there.

भगवान शिव, देवताओं और गंधर्वों से घिरे हुए, महान ऋषियों के समूह द्वारा पूजित, हाथ में पिनाक लेकर वहाँ आए।

तमुवाच महादेवः सान्त्वपूर्वमिदं वचः पुत्रशोकाभिसंतप्तं कृष्णद्वैपायनं तदा

Then the great god spoke these words to him, who was afflicted with grief for his son, to Krishna Dvaipāyana.

तब महान भगवान ने कृष्ण द्वैपायन से, जो अपने पुत्र के शोक से पीड़ित थे, ये शब्द कहे।

अग्नेर्भूमेरपां वायोरन्तरिक्षस्य चैव ह वीर्येण सदृशः पुत्रस्त्वया मत्तः पुरा वृतः

You are the son of Agni, Earth, Water, Wind, and the Sky, and you are equal to them in strength. You were chosen by me before you were born.

आप अग्नि, पृथ्वी, जल, वायु और आकाश के पुत्र हैं और शक्ति में उन्हीं के समान हैं। तुम्हारे जन्म से पहले ही तुम्हें मेरे द्वारा चुन लिया गया था।

स तथालक्षणो जातस्तपसा तव संभृतः मम चैव प्रभावेन ब्रह्मतेजोमयः शुचिः

He, having such characteristics, has been born by your penance and by my power, pure, consisting of the lustre of Brahman.

ऐसे गुणों से युक्त वह आपकी तपस्या और मेरी शक्ति से शुद्ध, ब्रह्म के तेज से युक्त, उत्पन्न हुआ है।

स गतिं परमां प्राप्तो दुष्प्रापामजितेन्द्रियैः दैवतैरपि विप्रर्षे तं त्वं किमनुशोचसि

He has attained the highest goal, which is difficult to attain even by the gods, by those who have not conquered their senses. O brahmin sage, why do you grieve for him?

उन्होंने सर्वोच्च लक्ष्य प्राप्त कर लिया है, जिसे देवताओं के लिए भी प्राप्त करना कठिन है, उन लोगों के लिए भी जिन्होंने अपनी इंद्रियों पर विजय नहीं पाई है। हे ब्राह्मण ऋषि, आप उसके लिए शोक क्यों करते हैं?

यावत्स्थास्यन्ति गिरयो यावत्स्थास्यन्ति सागराः तावत्तवाक्षया कीर्तिः सपुत्रस्य भविष्यति

As long as the mountains will stand, as long as the oceans will stand, for that long your undying fame, along with your sons, will be.

जब तक पर्वत खड़े रहेंगे, जब तक समुद्र खड़े रहेंगे, तब तक तुम्हारे पुत्रों सहित तुम्हारी अक्षय कीर्ति बनी रहेगी।

छायां स्वपुत्रसदृशीं सर्वतोऽनपगां सदा द्रक्ष्यसे त्वं च लोकेऽस्मिन्मत्प्रसादान्महामुने

By my grace, O great sage, you will see in this world a shadow like your own son, always present and never departing.

मेरी कृपा से, हे महान ऋषि, आप इस संसार में अपने पुत्र के समान एक छाया देखेंगे, जो हमेशा मौजूद रहती है और कभी नहीं जाती।

सोऽनुनीतो भगवता स्वयं रुद्रेण भारत छायां पश्यन्समावृत्तः स मुनिः परया मुदा

O descendant of Bharata, the sage, being entreated by the Lord himself, Rudra, and seeing the shadow, was filled with great joy.

हे भरत के वंशज, ऋषि, स्वयं भगवान रुद्र द्वारा अनुनय किए जाने पर और छाया को देखकर, बहुत खुशी से भर गए।

इति जन्म गतिश्चैव शुकस्य भरतर्षभ विस्तरेण मयाख्यातं यन्मां त्वं परिपृच्छसि

Thus, O best of the Bharata lineage, I have told you in detail about the birth and destiny of Śuka, which you asked me about.

इस प्रकार, हे भरत वंश के सर्वश्रेष्ठ, मैंने आपको शुक के जन्म और भाग्य के बारे में विस्तार से बताया है, जिसके बारे में आपने मुझसे पूछा था।

एतदाचष्ट मे राजन्देवर्षिर्नारदः पुरा व्यासश्चैव महायोगी संजल्पेषु पदे पदे

O king, this was told to me by the celestial sage Narada and also by the great yogi Vyasa in our conversations.

हे राजन, यह बात हमें दिव्य ऋषि नारद और महान योगी व्यास ने भी हमारी बातचीत में बताई थी।

इतिहासमिमं पुण्यं मोक्षधर्मार्थसंहितम् धारयेद्यः शमपरः स गच्छेत्परमां गतिम्

He who is intent on peace and holds this meritorious history, which is a compendium of the Dharma of liberation, will attain the highest goal.

वह जो शांति का इरादा रखता है और इस मेधावी इतिहास को धारण करता है, जो मुक्ति के धर्म का सार-संग्रह है, वह सर्वोच्च लक्ष्य प्राप्त करेगा।
