युधिष्ठिर उवाच प्रियः सर्वस्य लोकस्य सर्वसत्त्वाभिनन्दिता गुणैः सर्वैरुपेतश्च को न्वस्ति भुवि मानवः

Yudhiṣṭhira asked: On this earth, who is the man who is loved by all the worlds, is unblemished and possesses all the spirits and also has every kind of quality?

युधिष्ठिर ने पूछा: इस पृथ्वी पर वह कौन पुरुष है जो सभी लोकों द्वारा प्रिय है, निष्कलंक है, सभी गुणों से युक्त है और सभी प्रकार के गुणों से युक्त है?

भीष्म उवाच अत्र ते वर्तयिष्यामि पृच्छतो भरतर्षभ उग्रसेनस्य संवादं नारदे केशवस्य च

Bhīṣma replied: O bull among the Bhārata lineage! You have asked me a question. In this connection, there was a conversation between Ugrasena and Keśava about Nārada.

भीष्म ने उत्तर दिया: हे भरत वंश के बैल! आपने मुझसे एक प्रश्न पूछा है. इसी सिलसिले में उग्रसेन और केशव के बीच नारद के बारे में बातचीत हुई।

उग्रसेन उवाच पश्य संकल्पते लोको नारदस्य प्रकीर्तने मन्ये स गुणसंपन्नो ब्रूहि तन्मम पृच्छतः

Ugrasena said, "Behold. All the worlds have resolved to praise Nārada. I think that he possesses all the qualities. I am asking you. Tell me."

उग्रसेन ने कहा, "देखो। सभी लोकों ने नारद की स्तुति करने का निश्चय किया है। मुझे लगता है कि उनमें सभी गुण हैं। मैं तुमसे पूछ रहा हूँ। मुझे बताओ।"

वासुदेव उवाच कुकुराधिप यान्मन्ये शृणु तान्मे विवक्षतः नारदस्य गुणान्साधून्संक्षेपेण नराधिप

Vāsudeva replied, "O lord of the Kukkura-s! Listen to me and I will tell you what you have asked me. O lord of men! I will briefly tell you about Nārada's virtuous qualities.

वासुदेव ने उत्तर दिया, "हे कुक्कुर-देव! मेरी बात सुनो और मैं तुम्हें वही बताऊंगा जो तुमने मुझसे पूछा है। हे मानव देव! मैं तुम्हें नारद के सद्गुणों के बारे में संक्षेप में बताऊंगा।

न चारित्रनिमित्तोऽस्याहंकारो देहपातनः अभिन्नश्रुतचारित्रस्तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

His character and conduct are such that he does not suffer from arrogance, destructive of the body. There is no gap in his learning and his character. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

उनका चरित्र और आचरण ऐसा है कि वे शरीर को नष्ट करने वाले अहंकार से ग्रस्त नहीं होते। उनकी सीख और उनके चरित्र में कोई अंतर नहीं है. यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

तपस्वी नारदो बाढं वाचि नास्य व्यतिक्रमः कामाद्वा यदि वा लोभात्तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

The ascetic Nārada is restrained in his speech and there is no exception to this. There is no desire and avarice in him. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

तपस्वी नारद अपनी वाणी में संयम रखते हैं और इसका कोई अपवाद नहीं है। उसमें कोई इच्छा और लोभ नहीं है। यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

अध्यात्मविधितत्त्वज्ञः क्षान्तः शक्तो जितेन्द्रियः ऋजुश्च सत्यवादी च तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

He knows the truth about adhyātma. He is tranquil, capable and in control of his senses. He is upright and truthful. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

वह अध्यात्म के बारे में सच्चाई जानता है। वह शांत, सक्षम और अपनी इंद्रियों पर नियंत्रण रखने वाला है। वह ईमानदार और सच्चा है. यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

तेजसा यशसा बुद्ध्या नयेन विनयेन च जन्मना तपसा वृद्धस्तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

He is energetic and illustrious. He possesses intelligence, policy and humility. Because of his birth, austerities and age, he is worshipped everywhere.

वह ऊर्जावान और यशस्वी हैं. उसके पास बुद्धि, नीति और विनम्रता है। उनके जन्म, तपस्या और आयु के कारण उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

सुखशीलः सुसंभोगः सुभोज्यः स्वादरः शुचिः सुवाक्यश्चाप्यनीर्ष्यश्च तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

He is cheerful in his conduct. He is excellent in his pleasures and food. He is considerate and pure. He speaks excellent words, devoid of malice. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

वह अपने आचरण से प्रसन्नचित्त है। वह अपने भोग-विलास और भोजन में उत्कृष्ट है। वह विचारशील और शुद्ध है. वह द्वेष से रहित होकर उत्तम वचन बोलता है। यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

कल्याणं कुरुते बाढं पापमस्मिन्न विद्यते न प्रीयते परानर्थैस्तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

He firmly acts so as to ensure welfare. There is no sin in him. He is not pleased at the hardships of others. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

वह कल्याण सुनिश्चित करने के लिए दृढ़ता से कार्य करता है। उसमें कोई पाप नहीं है. वह दूसरों की कठिनाइयों से प्रसन्न नहीं होता। यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

वेदश्रुतिभिराख्यानैरर्थानभिजिगीषते तितिक्षुरनवज्ञश्च तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

He desires to hear the objectives of the Veda-s, the sacred texts and the accounts, and tolerates those who are ignorant. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

वह वेदों के उद्देश्यों, पवित्र ग्रंथों और खातों को सुनने की इच्छा रखता है और जो अज्ञानी हैं उन्हें सहन करता है। यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

समत्वाद्धि प्रियो नास्ति नाप्रियश्च कथंचन मनोनुकूलवादी च तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

He behaves equally. There is no one he loves and no one he hates. He speaks what is pleasant to the mind. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

वह समान व्यवहार करता है. ऐसा कोई नहीं है जिससे वह प्यार करता हो और कोई ऐसा नहीं जिससे वह नफरत करता हो। वह वही बोलते हैं जो मन को अच्छा लगता है. यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

बहुश्रुतश्चैत्रकथः पण्डितोऽनलसोऽशठः अदीनोऽक्रोधनोऽलुब्धस्तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

He is extremely learned and is colourful in his tales. He possesses knowledge. He is without laziness and without deceit. He is not distressed. He is without anger and without greed. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

वह बेहद विद्वान हैं और अपनी कहानियों में रंगीन हैं। उसके पास ज्ञान है. वह आलस्य रहित और छल रहित है। वह व्यथित नहीं है. वह क्रोध रहित और लोभ रहित है। यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

नार्थे न धर्मे कामे वा भूतपूर्वोऽस्य विग्रहः दोषाश्चास्य समुच्छिन्नास्तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

He has never engaged in any quarrels for the sake of artha, dharma or kāmā. He has severed all taints. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

वह कभी भी अर्थ, धर्म या काम के लिए किसी झगड़े में नहीं पड़ा। उन्होंने सभी दागों को तोड़ दिया है.' यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

दृढभक्तिरनिन्द्यात्मा श्रुतवाननृशंसवान् वीतसंमोहदोषश्च तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

He is firm in his devotion. His soul has no blemish. He is learned and is devoid of cruelty. He is free from all sins of delusion. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

वह अपनी भक्ति में दृढ़ है. उसकी आत्मा में कोई दोष नहीं है. वह विद्वान है और क्रूरता से रहित है। वह भ्रम के सभी पापों से मुक्त है. यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

असक्तः सर्वसङ्गेषु सक्तात्मेव च लक्ष्यते अदीर्घसंशयो वाग्मी तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

Though he is seen to be attached, he is actually detached from all the things that cause attachment. His doubts do not last for a long time. He is eloquent. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

यद्यपि वह आसक्त दिखाई देता है, परंतु वास्तव में वह उन सभी वस्तुओं से विरक्त है जो आसक्ति का कारण बनती हैं। उसका संदेह अधिक समय तक नहीं रहता। वह वाक्पटु है. यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

समाधिर्नास्य मानार्थे नात्मानं स्तौति कर्हिचित् अनीर्ष्युर्दृढसंभाषस्तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

For the sake of accomplishing any object or obtaining respect, he never praises himself. He is not envious and is mild in his speech. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

किसी भी उद्देश्य की पूर्ति या सम्मान पाने के लिए वह कभी भी अपनी प्रशंसा नहीं करता। वह ईर्ष्यालु नहीं है और अपनी वाणी में नम्र है। यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

लोकस्य विविधं वृत्तं प्रकृतेश्चाप्यकुत्सयन् संसर्गविद्याकुशलस्तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

There are many kinds of ordinary conduct in this world. He is accomplished and knows about these. He associates with these people, but does not censure them. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

इस संसार में अनेक प्रकार के सामान्य आचरण होते हैं। वह निपुण है और इनके बारे में जानता है। वह इन लोगों से मेलजोल रखता है, परन्तु उनकी निन्दा नहीं करता। यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

नासूयत्यागमं कंचित्स्वं तपो नोपजीवति अवन्ध्यकालो वश्यात्मा तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

He does not hate any kind of knowledge and subsists on austerities. He does not allow himself to spend time fruitlessly. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

वह किसी भी प्रकार के ज्ञान से घृणा नहीं करता और तपस्या पर निर्भर रहता है। वह स्वयं को व्यर्थ समय बर्बाद करने की अनुमति नहीं देता। यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

कृतश्रमः कृतप्रज्ञो न च तृप्तः समाधितः नियमस्थोऽप्रमत्तश्च तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

He has conquered exhaustion. He is accomplished in his wisdom. He is not content with meditation. He resorts to the rituals, without any distraction. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

उसने थकावट पर विजय पा ली है। वह अपनी बुद्धि में निपुण है। वह ध्यान से संतुष्ट नहीं है. वह बिना किसी भटकाव के रीति-रिवाजों का सहारा लेता है। यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

सापत्रपश्च युक्तश्च सुनेयः श्रेयसे परैः अभेत्ता परगुह्यानां तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

Because his policies are good, he is never shamed. He is engaged in the supreme objective. He does not reveal the secrets of others. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

क्योंकि उनकी नीतियां अच्छी हैं, उन्हें कभी शर्म नहीं आती। वह परम उद्देश्य में लगा हुआ है। वह दूसरों के रहस्य उजागर नहीं करता. यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

न हृष्यत्यर्थलाभेषु नालाभेषु व्यथत्यपि स्थिरबुद्धिरसक्तात्मा तस्मात्सर्वत्र पूजितः

He is not delighted at obtaining wealth. Nor is he distressed when nothing is obtained. He is firm in his intelligence and his soul is not attached. That is the reason he is worshipped everywhere.

वह धन पाकर प्रसन्न नहीं होता। न ही कुछ न मिलने पर वह व्यथित होता है। वह अपनी बुद्धि में दृढ़ है और उसकी आत्मा आसक्त नहीं है। यही कारण है कि उनकी सर्वत्र पूजा होती है।

तं सर्वगुणसंपन्नं दक्षं शुचिमकातरम् कालज्ञं च नयज्ञं च कः प्रियं न करिष्यति

He is vested with all the qualities. He is skilful and ceaseless in the pursuit of the auspicious. He knows about time. He knows about policy. He knows about the people to whom good things should not be done."

वह सभी गुणों से युक्त है। वह शुभ की खोज में कुशल और निरंतर है। वह समय के बारे में जानता है. वह नीति के बारे में जानते हैं. वह उन लोगों के बारे में जानता है जिनके साथ अच्छे काम नहीं किये जाने चाहिए।”
