भीष्म उवाच स चामन्त्र्योरगश्रेष्ठं ब्राह्मणः कृतनिश्चयः दीक्षाकाङ्क्षी तदा राजंश्च्यवनं भार्गवं श्रितः

Bhishma said: The brahmin, having taken leave of the best of serpents, determined, and desiring initiation, then resorted to Chyavana Bhargava, O king.

भीष्म ने कहा: हे राजा, ब्राह्मण ने सर्वश्रेष्ठ नागों से विदा लेकर, दृढ़ निश्चय किया और दीक्षा की इच्छा रखते हुए च्यवन भार्गव की शरण ली।

स तेन कृतसंस्कारो धर्ममेवोपतस्थिवान् तथैव च कथामेतां राजन्कथितवांस्तदा

Having been thus initiated, he took to the Dharma. And in the same way, O king, he told this story.

इस प्रकार दीक्षित होने के बाद, उन्होंने धर्म अपना लिया। और इसी प्रकार हे राजा, उस ने यह कथा भी कही।

भार्गवेणापि राजेन्द्र जनकस्य निवेशने कथैषा कथिता पुण्या नारदाय महात्मने

O king, it was also told by Bhārgava in the abode of Janaka. This auspicious story was told by him to the noble Nārada.

हे राजन, यह बात जनक के आश्रम में भी भार्गव ने कही थी। यह शुभ कथा उन्होंने श्रेष्ठ नारद को सुनाई थी।

नारदेनापि राजेन्द्र देवेन्द्रस्य निवेशने कथिता भरतश्रेष्ठ पृष्टेनाक्लिष्टकर्मणा

O best of the Bharatas, it was also told by Narada to the king of the gods in his abode, when he was asked by the one of unwearying deeds.

हे भरतश्रेष्ठ, यह बात नारद ने अपने निवास में देवताओं के राजा को भी बताई थी, जब उनसे अथक कर्म करने वाले ने पूछा था।

देवराजेन च पुरा कथैषा कथिता शुभा समस्तेभ्यः प्रशस्तेभ्यो वसुभ्यो वसुधाधिप

And in the past, this auspicious story was told by the king of the gods To all the Vasus, O Lord of the Earth, who are praised by all.

और अतीत में, यह शुभ कथा देवताओं के राजा ने सभी वसुओं को सुनाई थी, हे पृथ्वी के भगवान, जिनकी सभी ने प्रशंसा की है।

यदा च मम रामेण युद्धमासीत्सुदारुणम् वसुभिश्च तदा राजन्कथेयं कथिता मम

And when I had a very terrible fight with Rama, then, O king, this story was told to me by Vasus.

और जब मेरा राम के साथ अत्यंत भयानक युद्ध हुआ, तब हे राजन, यह कहानी वसुओं ने मुझे सुनाई थी।

पृच्छमानाय तत्त्वेन मया तुभ्यं विशां पते कथेयं कथिता पुण्या धर्म्या धर्मभृतां वर

O lord of the people, I have told you this meritorious and righteous story, which was asked by me in truth.

हे प्रजापालन, मैंने जो सत्य रूप से पूछा था, वह पुण्यमय और धर्मयुक्त कथा मैंने तुम्हें बता दी है।

तदेष परमो धर्मो यन्मां पृच्छसि भारत असन्नधीरनाकाङ्क्षी धर्मार्थकरणे नृप

This is the highest dharma, O descendant of Bharata, that you ask me. O king, one who is not greedy, who does not desire, who is not attached to the means of dharma and artha,

हे भरत के वंशज, यह सर्वोच्च धर्म है, जो तुम मुझसे पूछते हो। हे राजन, जो लोभी नहीं है, जो कामना नहीं करता, जो धर्म और अर्थ के साधनों में आसक्त नहीं है।

स च किल कृतनिश्चयो द्विजाग्र्यो; भुजगपतिप्रतिदेशितार्थकृत्यः यमनियमसमाहितो वनान्तं; परिगणितोञ्छशिलाशनः प्रविष्टः

And that best of Brahmins, having made up his mind, and having been instructed by the Lord of Serpents, entered the forest, intent on self-control and restraint, having counted the roots and fruits he would eat.

और वह ब्राह्मणश्रेष्ठ, अपना मन बना कर, और सर्पों के भगवान द्वारा निर्देश प्राप्त करके, आत्म-नियंत्रण और संयम का इरादा करके, अपने द्वारा खाए जाने वाले मूल और फलों को गिनकर, जंगल में प्रवेश कर गया।
