स्थाणुरुवाच प्रजासर्गनिमित्तं मे कार्यवत्तामिमां प्रभो विद्धि सृष्टास्त्वया हीमा मा कुप्यासां पितामह

Sthāṇu said, "O lord! Everything that I have done is for the sake of the subjects who have been created. O grandfather! Know that you should not be angry with the ones you have created.

स्थाणु ने कहा, "हे भगवान! मैंने जो कुछ भी किया है वह उन प्रजा के लिए है जो बनाई गई हैं। हे पितामह! जान लें कि जिन्हें आपने बनाया है उन पर आपको क्रोध नहीं करना चाहिए।"

तव तेजोग्निना देव प्रजा दह्यन्ति सर्वशः ता दृष्ट्वा मम कारुण्यं मा कुप्यासां जगत्प्रभो

O god! In every direction, the subjects are being burnt because of the fierceness of your fire. On seeing this, I feel compassion. O lord of the universe! Do not be enraged with them."

रब्बा बे! आपकी अग्नि की प्रचण्डता से सभी दिशाओं में प्रजा जल रही है। ये देख कर मुझे दया आती है. हे ब्रह्मांड के स्वामी! उन पर क्रोधित न हों।”

प्रजापतिरुवाच न कुप्ये न च मे कामो न भवेरन्प्रजा इति लाघवार्थं धरण्यास्तु ततः संहार इष्यते

Prajāpati replied, "I am not enraged. Nor is it my desire that these subjects should cease to exist. I desire the destruction for the sake of making the burden of the earth lighter.

प्रजापति ने उत्तर दिया, "मैं क्रोधित नहीं हूं। न ही मेरी इच्छा है कि इन विषयों का अस्तित्व समाप्त हो जाए। मैं पृथ्वी का बोझ हल्का करने के लिए विनाश चाहता हूं।"

इयं हि मां सदा देवी भारार्ता समचोदयत् संहारार्थं महादेव भारेणाप्सु निमज्जति

The goddess has been afflicted by the burden and has constantly urged me for the destruction. O Mahādeva! Because of the burden, she seems to be submerging in the water.

देवी भार से पीड़ित हो गई हैं और मुझसे विनाश के लिए निरंतर आग्रह करती रहती हैं। हे महादेव! बोझ के कारण वह पानी में डूबती हुई प्रतीत हो रही है।

यदाहं नाधिगच्छामि बुद्ध्या बहु विचारयन् संहारमासां वृद्धानां ततो मां क्रोध आविशत्

Despite using my intelligence to reflect on this, I have not been able to understand what to do. Anger entered me because I wished to destroy this growth."

इस पर विचार करने के लिए अपनी बुद्धि का प्रयोग करने पर भी मैं समझ नहीं पा रहा हूँ कि क्या करूँ। मुझमें गुस्सा आ गया क्योंकि मैं इस विकास को नष्ट करना चाहता था।"

स्थाणुरुवाच संहारान्तं प्रसीदस्व मा क्रुधस्त्रिदशेश्वर मा प्रजाः स्थावरं चैव जङ्गमं च विनीनशः

Sthāṇu said, "O lord of the thirty gods! Be pacified about this destruction and do not be enraged. Do not destroy the subjects and the mobile and immobile objects.

स्थाणु ने कहा, "हे तीस देवताओं के स्वामी! इस विनाश के बारे में शांत रहें और क्रोधित न हों। विषयों और जंगम और अचल वस्तुओं को नष्ट न करें।"

पल्वलानि च सर्वाणि सर्वं चैव तृणोलपम् स्थावरं जङ्गमं चैव भूतग्रामं चतुर्विधम्

There are four kinds of categories of beings—all the waterbodies, all the gras-s and herbs, mobile objects and immobile objects.

प्राणियों की चार प्रकार की श्रेणियाँ हैं - सभी जलाशय, सभी घास और जड़ी-बूटियाँ, गतिशील वस्तुएँ और अचल वस्तुएँ।

तदेतद्भस्मसाद्भूतं जगत्सर्वमुपप्लुतम् प्रसीद भगवन्साधो वर एष वृतो मया

The entire universe is being robbed of these and all these created entities are being reduced to ashes. O illustrious one! Show your favours. O virtuous one! This is the boon that I seek from you.

संपूर्ण ब्रह्मांड को इनसे लूटा जा रहा है और इन सभी निर्मित संस्थाओं को राख में तब्दील किया जा रहा है। हे महामहिम! अपना एहसान दिखाओ. हे धर्मात्मा! यही वह वरदान है जो मैं तुमसे चाहता हूँ।

नष्टा न पुनरेष्यन्ति प्रजा ह्येताः कथंचन तस्मान्निवर्त्यतामेतत्तेजः स्वेनैव तेजसा

Once they are destroyed, these subjects will never return again. Therefore, let this infinite energy be countered with your own energy.

एक बार नष्ट हो जाने के बाद ये प्रजा फिर कभी वापस नहीं लौटेगी। इसलिए, इस अनंत ऊर्जा का मुकाबला अपनी ऊर्जा से करें।

उपायमन्यं संपश्य प्रजानां हितकाम्यया यथेमे जन्तवः सर्वे निवर्तेरन्परंतप

With the welfare of the subjects in mind, think of some other means. O scorcher of enemies! Let all these living beings be able to return again.

प्रजा की भलाई को ध्यान में रखकर कोई अन्य उपाय सोचो। हे शत्रुओं को भस्म करने वाले! ये सभी जीव पुनः वापस लौट सकें।

अभावमभिगच्छेयुरुत्सन्नप्रजनाः प्रजाः अधिदैवनियुक्तोऽस्मि त्वया लोकेष्विहेश्वर

It is not desirable that all the created subjects should be destroyed, together with their offspring. O lord over lords of the worlds! I have been appointed by you as the one who presides over existence.

यह वांछनीय नहीं है कि सभी सृजित प्रजा को उनकी संतानों सहित नष्ट कर दिया जाए। हे विश्व के स्वामियों के स्वामी! मुझे आपके द्वारा अस्तित्व पर शासन करने वाले के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया है।

त्वद्भवं हि जगन्नाथ जगत्स्थावरजङ्गमम् प्रसाद्य त्वां महादेव याचाम्यावृत्तिजाः प्रजाः

O protector of the universe! All the mobile and immobile objects in the universe have sprung from you. O great god! With your favours, I desire that these subjects should return and find subsistence.""

हे ब्रह्मांड के रक्षक! ब्रह्मांड में सभी गतिशील और स्थिर वस्तुएं आपसे ही उत्पन्न हुई हैं। हे महान भगवान! आपकी कृपा से, मेरी इच्छा है कि ये प्रजा वापस लौट आये और उन्हें जीवन-यापन मिले।''

नारद उवाच श्रुत्वा तु वचनं देवः स्थाणोर्नियतवाङ्मनाः तेजस्तत्स्वं निजग्राह पुनरेवान्तरात्मना

Nārada said, "The god who was restrained in speech heard Sthāṇu's words. He then restrained the energy that had originated from within himself.

नारद ने कहा, "भगवान जो वाणी में संयमित थे, उन्होंने स्थाणु के शब्दों को सुना। फिर उन्होंने अपने भीतर से उत्पन्न हुई ऊर्जा को नियंत्रित किया।

ततोऽग्निमुपसंगृह्य भगवाँल्लोकपूजितः प्रवृत्तिं च निवृत्तिं च कल्पयामास वै प्रभुः

The illustrious one, worshipped by the worlds, restrained the fire. The lord began to think about creation and destruction.

संसार द्वारा पूजित उस महाबली ने अग्नि को रोक लिया। भगवान सृजन और विनाश के बारे में सोचने लगे।

उपसंहरतस्तस्य तमग्निं रोषजं तदा प्रादुर्बभूव विश्वेभ्यः खेभ्यो नारी महात्मनः

He restrained the fire that had resulted from his anger. At that time, from within the great-souled creator of the universe, a lady manifested herself.

उन्होंने अपने क्रोध से उत्पन्न अग्नि को रोक लिया। उस समय, ब्रह्मांड के महान आत्मा निर्माता के भीतर से, एक महिला स्वयं प्रकट हुई।

कृष्णा रक्ताम्बरधरा रक्तनेत्रतलान्तरा दिव्यकुण्डलसंपन्ना दिव्याभरणभूषिता

She was dark and dressed in red garments. Her eyes and palms were red. She was adorned with celestial earrings and wore divine ornaments.

वह सांवली थी और उसने लाल वस्त्र पहने हुए थे। उसकी आँखें और हथेलियाँ लाल थीं। वह दिव्य कुण्डलों से सुशोभित थी और दिव्य आभूषण धारण किये हुए थी।

सा विनिःसृत्य वै खेभ्यो दक्षिणामाश्रिता दिशम् ददृशातेऽथ तौ कन्यां देवौ विश्वेश्वरावुभौ

Having emerged from within him, she stood on his right. Those two lords of the universe saw that celestial maiden.

उसके भीतर से निकलकर वह उसके दाहिनी ओर खड़ी हो गयी। ब्रह्माण्ड के उन दोनों देवताओं ने उस दिव्य कन्या को देखा।

तामाहूय तदा देवो लोकानामादिरीश्वरः मृत्यो इति महीपाल जहि चेमाः प्रजा इति

O lord of the earth! The original god of the worlds addressed the goddess and said, "O Death! Slay the subjects.

हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! लोकों के मूल देवता ने देवी को संबोधित करते हुए कहा, "हे मृत्यु! प्रजा का संहार करो।"

त्वं हि संहारबुद्ध्या मे चिन्तिता रुषितेन च तस्मात्संहर सर्वास्त्वं प्रजाः सजडपण्डिताः

Using my intelligence and my rage, I have thought of you as the destroyer. Therefore, destroy all the subjects, whether they are dumb or learned.

मैंने अपनी बुद्धि और क्रोध का प्रयोग करके तुम्हें ही विध्वंसक समझ लिया है। अत: समस्त प्रजा को, चाहे वे गूंगे हों अथवा विद्वान, नष्ट कर दो।

अविशेषेण चैव त्वं प्रजाः संहर भामिनि मम त्वं हि नियोगेन श्रेयः परमवाप्स्यसि

O beautiful one! Without any differentiation, destroy the subjects. You are thus appointed by me and you will obtain supreme prosperity."

हे सुंदर! बिना किसी भेदभाव के प्रजा का नाश करो. इस प्रकार तुम मेरे द्वारा नियुक्त किये गये हो और तुम्हें सर्वोच्च समृद्धि प्राप्त होगी।"

एवमुक्ता तु सा देवी मृत्युः कमलमालिनी प्रदध्यौ दुःखिता बाला साश्रुपातमतीव हि

The goddess Death wore a garland of lotuses. Hearing this, the maiden was tormented by grief and began to shed tears.

मृत्यु देवी ने कमल की माला धारण की थी। यह सुनकर कन्या दुःख से पीड़ित हो गई और आँसू बहाने लगी।

पाणिभ्यां चैव जग्राह तान्यश्रूणि जनेश्वरः मानवानां हितार्थाय ययाचे पुनरेव च

O lord of men! She joined her hands in salutation and wept. To ensure the welfare of men, she again entreated him."

हे मनुष्यों के स्वामी! उसने नमस्कार में हाथ जोड़े और रो पड़ी। पुरुषों के कल्याण को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए, उसने फिर से उससे विनती की।
