लोमश उवाच समुद्रं स समासाद्य वारुणिर्भगवानृषिः उवाच सहितान्देवानृषींश्चैव समागतान्

Lomaśa said: "On approaching the ocean, the illustrious riṣi who was Vāruṇa's son told the gods and the riṣis who had gathered with him,

लोमश ने कहा: "समुद्र के पास पहुंचने पर, वरुण के पुत्र प्रतिष्ठित ऋषि ने देवताओं और उनके साथ एकत्र हुए ऋषियों से कहा,

एष लोकहितार्थं वै पिबामि वरुणालयम् भवद्भिर्यदनुष्ठेयं तच्छीघ्रं संविधीयताम्

"For the welfare of the world, I will drink up Vāruṇa's abode. Swiftly make the arrangements that are appropriate."

"विश्व के कल्याण के लिए, मैं वरुण के निवास को पी लूँगा। शीघ्रता से उचित व्यवस्था करो।"

एतावदुक्त्वा वचनं मैत्रावरुणिरच्युतः समुद्रमपिबत्क्रुद्धः सर्वलोकस्य पश्यतः

Having spoken these words, the undecaying son of Mitrā and Vāruṇa began to drink up the ocean in his anger, while all the worlds looked on.

इन शब्दों को कहकर मित्रा और वरुण के अविनाशी पुत्र ने क्रोध में आकर समुद्र को पीना शुरू कर दिया, जबकि सभी लोक देखते रहे।

पीयमानं समुद्रं तु दृष्ट्वा देवाः सवासवाः विस्मयं परमं जग्मुः स्तुतिभिश्चाप्यपूजयन्

On seeing how the ocean was being drunk up, the immortals, together with Indra, were extremely astounded and began to worship him by chanting his praises.

यह देखकर कि समुद्र किस प्रकार पीया जा रहा है, इंद्र सहित अमर लोग अत्यंत आश्चर्यचकित हुए और उनकी स्तुति करके उनकी पूजा करने लगे।

त्वं नस्त्राता विधाता च लोकानां लोकभावनः त्वत्प्रसादात्समुच्छेदं न गच्छेत्सामरं जगत्

"You are the protector. You are the creator of the worlds. You ensure the welfare of the worlds. Through your grace, the universe, with all the immortals, will be saved from destruction."

"आप रक्षक हैं। आप विश्व के निर्माता हैं। आप विश्व का कल्याण सुनिश्चित करते हैं। आपकी कृपा से, सभी अमरों सहित ब्रह्मांड को विनाश से बचाया जाएगा।"

संपूज्यमानस्त्रिदशैर्महात्मा; गन्धर्वतूर्येषु नदत्सु सर्वशः दिव्यैश्च पुष्पैरवकीर्यमाणो; महार्णवं निःसलिलं चकार

While he was worshipped by the thirty gods, the musical instruments of the gāndharva-s sounded in every direction. Divine blossoms were showered down on him. The great-souled one made the great ocean bereft of water.

जबकि तीस देवताओं द्वारा उनकी पूजा की जाती थी, गंधर्वों के संगीत वाद्ययंत्र हर दिशा में बजते थे। उस पर दिव्य पुष्पों की वर्षा होने लगी। उस महात्मा ने महान् समुद्र को जल से विहीन कर दिया।

दृष्ट्वा कृतं निःसलिलं महार्णवं; सुराः समस्ताः परमप्रहृष्टाः प्रगृह्य दिव्यानि वरायुधानि; तान्दानवाञ्जघ्नुरदीनसत्त्वाः

On seeing that the great ocean had been rendered waterless, the gods were extremely delighted. Grasping divine and supreme weapons, and with uplifted hearts, they began to kill those dānava-s.

यह देखकर कि विशाल समुद्र जलहीन हो गया है, देवताओं को अत्यंत प्रसन्नता हुई। वे दिव्य और सर्वोच्च अस्त्र-शस्त्र लेकर और ऊंचे हृदय से उन दानवों को मारने लगे।

ते वध्यमानास्त्रिदशैर्महात्मभि;र्महाबलैर्वेगिभिरुन्नदद्भिः न सेहिरे वेगवतां महात्मनां; वेगं तदा धारयितुं दिवौकसाम्

They were killed by the great-souled thirty gods, who were extremely strong and swift and roared out aloud. They were unable to withstand the force of the great-souled gods or bear that force.

उन्हें उन महाबली तीस देवताओं ने मार डाला, जो अत्यंत बलवान, तीव्रगामी तथा ऊंचे स्वर से गर्जना करने वाले थे। वे महान आत्मा वाले देवताओं की शक्ति का सामना करने या उस बल को सहन करने में असमर्थ थे।

ते वध्यमानास्त्रिदशैर्दानवा भीमनिस्वनाः चक्रुः सुतुमुलं युद्धं मुहूर्तमिव भारत

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Attacked by the thirty gods, the dānava-s let out terrible roars. Being attacked, they could put up a tumultuous fight only for an instant.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! तीस देवताओं द्वारा आक्रमण किये जाने पर दानवों ने भयानक गर्जनाएँ कीं। हमला किये जाने के कारण, वे केवल एक पल के लिए ही उग्र संघर्ष कर सके।

ते पूर्वं तपसा दग्धा मुनिभिर्भावितात्मभिः यतमानाः परं शक्त्या त्रिदशैर्विनिषूदिताः

They had already been burnt through the austerities of the sages who were pure in their souls. Therefore, though they tried their best, they could not prevent being destroyed by the thirty.

वे पहले ही उन ऋषियों की तपस्या से भस्म हो चुके थे जो अपनी आत्मा में शुद्ध थे। इसलिए, यद्यपि उन्होंने अपना सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्रयास किया, फिर भी वे तीसों द्वारा नष्ट होने से नहीं बच सके।

ते हेमनिष्काभरणाः कुण्डलाङ्गदधारिणः निहत्य बह्वशोभन्त पुष्पिता इव किंशुकाः

They were adorned with golden armour, earrings and arm-guards. When they were killed, they looked extremely beautiful, like kiṃśuka flowers.

वे स्वर्ण कवच, कुण्डल तथा बाँह-रक्षकों से सुशोभित थे। जब वे मारे गए, तो वे किंशुका फूलों की तरह बेहद सुंदर लग रहे थे।

हतशेषास्ततः केचित्कालेया मनुजोत्तम विदार्य वसुधां देवीं पातालतलमाश्रिताः

O supreme among men! Those among the Kāleya-s who were not killed, cleft the goddess earth and sought refuge in the nether regions.

हे मनुष्यों में श्रेष्ठ! कालियाओं में से जो लोग मारे नहीं गए थे, उन्होंने देवी पृथ्वी को तोड़ दिया और निचले क्षेत्रों में शरण ली।

निहतान्दानवान्दृष्ट्वा त्रिदशा मुनिपुंगवम् तुष्टुवुर्विविधैर्वाक्यैरिदं चैवाब्रुवन्वचः

On seeing the dānava-s killed, the thirty gratified the bull among sages with diverse praises and words.

दानवों को मारा गया देख उन तीसों ने विविध स्तुतियों और शब्दों से ऋषियों के बीच बैल को संतुष्ट किया।

त्वत्प्रसादान्महाभाग लोकैः प्राप्तं महत्सुखम् त्वत्तेजसा च निहताः कालेयाः क्रूरविक्रमाः

"O immensely fortunate one! Through your favours, the worlds have obtained great happiness. The Kāleya-s, cruel in valour, have been killed through your energy.

"हे अत्यंत भाग्यशाली! आपके उपकार से संसार ने महान सुख प्राप्त किया है। आपकी शक्ति से क्रूर शूरवीर कालेय भी मारे गये हैं।"

पूरयस्व महाबाहो समुद्रं लोकभावन यत्त्वया सलिलं पीतं तदस्मिन्पुनरुत्सृज

O mighty-armed one! You ensure the welfare of the worlds. Fill up the ocean again, by giving up the water that you had drunk."

हे महाबाहु! आप संसार का कल्याण सुनिश्चित करते हैं। जो जल तुमने पिया था, उसे त्यागकर पुनः सागर को भर दो।”

एवमुक्तः प्रत्युवाच भगवान्मुनिपुंगवः जीर्णं तद्धि मया तोयमुपायोऽन्यः प्रचिन्त्यताम् पूरणार्थं समुद्रस्य भवद्भिर्यत्नमास्थितैः

Having been thus addressed, the illustrious bull among sages replied, "The water has already been digested by me. Think of some other means and make your best efforts to fill up the ocean."

इस प्रकार संबोधित करने पर, ऋषियों के बीच शानदार बैल ने उत्तर दिया, "पानी पहले ही पच चुका है। किसी अन्य उपाय के बारे में सोचें और समुद्र को भरने के लिए अपना सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्रयास करें।"

एतच्छ्रुत्वा तु वचनं महर्षेर्भावितात्मनः विस्मिताश्च विषण्णाश्च बभूवुः सहिताः सुराः

Having heard the words of the maharṣi, whose soul had been perfected, the assembled gods were surprised and distressed.

महर्षि के वचन सुनकर, जिनकी आत्मा सिद्ध हो चुकी थी, एकत्रित देवता आश्चर्यचकित और व्यथित हो गए।

परस्परमनुज्ञाप्य प्रणम्य मुनिपुंगवम् प्रजाः सर्वा महाराज विप्रजग्मुर्यथागतम्

They took each other's leave and bowed in salutation to the bull among sages. O great king! All the subjects and brāhmana-s returned whence they had come.

उन्होंने एक-दूसरे से विदा ली और ऋषियों के बीच बैल को प्रणाम किया। हे महान राजा! सारी प्रजा और ब्राह्मण जहाँ से आये थे, वहीं लौट गये।

त्रिदशा विष्णुना सार्धमुपजग्मुः पितामहम् पूरणार्थं समुद्रस्य मन्त्रयित्वा पुनः पुनः ऊचुः प्राञ्जलयः सर्वे सागरस्याभिपूरणम्

The thirty gods, together with Viṣṇu, went to the grandfather. They consulted again and again about filling up the ocean. All of them joined their hands in salutation and spoke about filling up the ocean."

विष्णु सहित तीस देवता पितामह के पास गये। वे समुद्र को भरने के बारे में बार-बार परामर्श करते थे। उन सभी ने हाथ जोड़कर नमस्कार किया और सागर भरने की बात कही।”
