मार्कण्डेय उवाच एवं संकथिते कृत्स्ने मोक्षधर्मे युधिष्ठिर दृढं प्रीतमना विप्रो धर्मव्याधमुवाच ह

Mārkaṇḍeya said: "O Yudhiṣṭhira! When all this about the dharma of salvation had been told to the brāhmaṇa, he was extremely pleased. He spoke to the hunter who knew about dharma.

मार्कंडेय ने कहा: "हे युधिष्ठिर! जब ब्राह्मण को मोक्ष के धर्म के बारे में यह सब बताया गया, तो वह बेहद प्रसन्न हुआ। उसने शिकारी से बात की जो धर्म के बारे में जानता था।

न्याययुक्तमिदं सर्वं भवता परिकीर्तितम् न तेऽस्त्यविदितं किंचिद्धर्मेष्विह हि दृश्यते

"You have told me everything, with all the arguments. It seems that there is nothing about dharma that you do not know."

"आपने मुझे सभी तर्कों के साथ सब कुछ बता दिया है। ऐसा लगता है कि धर्म के बारे में ऐसा कुछ भी नहीं है जो आप नहीं जानते।"

व्याध उवाच प्रत्यक्षं मम यो धर्मस्तं पश्य द्विजसत्तम येन सिद्धिरियं प्राप्ता मया ब्राह्मणपुंगव

The hunter replied: "O supreme among brāhmana-s! With your own eyes, behold my dharma. O bull among brāhmana-s! It is through this that I have achieved success.

शिकारी ने उत्तर दिया: "हे ब्राह्मणों में श्रेष्ठ! अपनी आँखों से मेरे धर्म को देखो। हे ब्राह्मणों में बैल! इसी के माध्यम से मुझे सफलता प्राप्त हुई है।"

उत्तिष्ठ भगवन्क्षिप्रं प्रविश्याभ्यन्तरं गृहम् द्रष्टुमर्हसि धर्मज्ञ मातरं पितरं च मे

O illustrious one! Arise and swiftly enter my house. O one learned in dharma! You should see my mother and my father."

हे महामहिम! उठो और शीघ्रता से मेरे घर में प्रवेश करो। हे धर्म के विद्वान! आपको मेरी माँ और मेरे पिता को देखना चाहिए।"

मार्कण्डेय उवाच इत्युक्तः स प्रविश्याथ ददर्श परमार्चितम् सौधं हृद्यं चतुःशालमतीव च मनोहरम्

Mārkaṇḍeya said: At these words, he entered and saw an extremely beautiful house. It was lovely and whitewashed and was divided into four parts.

मार्कण्डेय ने कहा: यह कहते हुए, उन्होंने प्रवेश किया और एक अत्यंत सुंदर घर देखा। वह सुन्दर और पुती हुई थी और चार भागों में बँटी हुई थी।

देवतागृहसंकाशं दैवतैश्च सुपूजितम् शयनासनसंबाधं गन्धैश्च परमैर्युतम्

It was like a house of the gods and was worshipped by the gods. It had excellent seats and beds and was fragrant with perfumes.

यह देवताओं के घर जैसा था और देवताओं द्वारा इसकी पूजा की जाती थी। इसमें उत्कृष्ट आसन और बिस्तर थे और यह इत्र से सुगंधित था।

तत्र शुक्लाम्बरधरौ पितरावस्य पूजितौ कृताहारौ सुतुष्टौ तावुपविष्टौ वरासने धर्मव्याधस्तु तौ दृष्ट्वा पादेषु शिरसापतत्

After having eaten, his adored parents were comfortably seated on excellent seats. They were dressed in white. On seeing them, the hunter who knew about dharma prostrated himself, with his head at their feet.

भोजन करने के बाद उनके पूज्य माता-पिता आराम से उत्कृष्ट आसनों पर बैठे थे। वे सफेद कपड़े पहने हुए थे. उन्हें देखते ही धर्म को जानने वाला शिकारी उनके चरणों में सिर रखकर दण्डवत हो गया।

वृद्धावूचतुः उत्तिष्ठोत्तिष्ठ धर्मज्ञ धर्मस्त्वामभिरक्षतु प्रीतौ स्वस्तव शौचेन दीर्घमायुरवाप्नुहि सत्पुत्रेण त्वया पुत्र नित्यकालं सुपूजितौ

The old ones said: "O one who is learned about dharma! Arise. Arise. May dharma always protect you. We are extremely pleased with your purity. May you have a long life. O son! You have always been a good son. You have worshipped us for a long time.

बूढ़ों ने कहा: "हे धर्म के विद्वान! उठो। उठो। धर्म सदैव तुम्हारी रक्षा करे। हम तुम्हारी पवित्रता से अत्यंत प्रसन्न हैं। तुम्हारी आयु लंबी हो। हे पुत्र! तुम सदैव एक अच्छे पुत्र रहे हो। तुमने लंबे समय तक हमारी पूजा की है।"

न तेऽन्यद्दैवतं किंचिद्दैवतेष्वपि वर्तते प्रयतत्वाद्द्विजातीनां दमेनासि समन्वितः

You have not acknowledged a god even among the gods themselves. Through self-control, you have attained the self-control of the brāhmana-s.

तूने देवताओं में भी किसी देवता को नहीं माना। आत्म-नियंत्रण के माध्यम से, तुमने ब्राह्मणों का आत्म-नियंत्रण प्राप्त कर लिया है।

पितुः पितामहा ये च तथैव प्रपितामहाः प्रीतास्ते सततं पुत्र दमेनावां च पूजया

O son! Your fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers have always been satisfied with you, because of your self-control and your worshipping of us.

हे वत्स आपके संयम और हमारी पूजा करने के कारण आपके पिता, दादा और परदादा आपसे सदैव संतुष्ट रहे हैं।

मनसा कर्मणा वाचा शुश्रूषा नैव हीयते न चान्या वितथा बुद्धिर्दृश्यते सांप्रतं तव

In thought, deed and words, you have never deviated from servitude. It seems to us that you have no other thought in your mind.

विचार, कर्म और वचन से आप कभी भी दासता से विचलित नहीं हुए। हमें तो ऐसा लगता है कि आपके मन में इसके अलावा कोई विचार ही नहीं है.

जामदग्न्येन रामेण यथा वृद्धौ सुपूजितौ तथा त्वया कृतं सर्वं तद्विशिष्टं च पुत्रक

O son! Like Jāmadagni's son Rāma, you have done everything to serve your aged parents. Indeed, you have done more."

हे वत्स जमदग्नि के पुत्र राम की तरह, आपने अपने वृद्ध माता-पिता की सेवा के लिए सब कुछ किया है। सचमुच, आपने और भी बहुत कुछ किया है।"

मार्कण्डेय उवाच ततस्तं ब्राह्मणं ताभ्यां धर्मव्याधो न्यवेदयत् तौ स्वागतेन तं विप्रमर्चयामासतुस्तदा

Mārkaṇḍeya said: Then the hunter who knew about dharma introduced the brāhmaṇa to them and they welcomed the brāhmaṇa with honours.

मार्कंडेय ने कहा: तब धर्म के बारे में जानने वाले शिकारी ने ब्राह्मण का उनसे परिचय कराया और उन्होंने सम्मान के साथ ब्राह्मण का स्वागत किया।

प्रतिगृह्य च तां पूजां द्विजः पप्रच्छ तावुभौ सपुत्राभ्यां सभृत्याभ्यां कच्चिद्वां कुशलं गृहे अनामयं च वां कच्चित्सदैवेह शरीरयोः

The brāhmaṇa accepted the honours and asked them, "Is everything well in your household, with your sons and your servants? Are you physically well, without any disease?"

ब्राह्मण ने सम्मान स्वीकार किया और उनसे पूछा, "क्या आपके घर में, आपके बेटों और नौकरों के साथ सब कुछ ठीक है? क्या आप शारीरिक रूप से स्वस्थ हैं, कोई बीमारी नहीं है?"

वृद्धावूचतुः कुशलं नो गृहे विप्र भृत्यवर्गे च सर्वशः कच्चित्त्वमप्यविघ्नेन संप्राप्तो भगवन्निह

The old couple replied: "O brāhmaṇa! Everything is well at home and the servants are fine too. O illustrious one! Did you confront any impediments in coming here?"

बूढ़े जोड़े ने उत्तर दिया: "हे ब्राह्मण! घर पर सब कुछ ठीक है और नौकर भी अच्छे हैं। हे प्रतिष्ठित! क्या आपको यहां आने में किसी बाधा का सामना करना पड़ा?"

मार्कण्डेय उवाच बाढमित्येव तौ विप्रः प्रत्युवाच मुदान्वितः धर्मव्याधस्तु तं विप्रमर्थवद्वाक्यमब्रवीत्

Mārkaṇḍeya said: The brāhmaṇa happily said that he hadn't faced any problems. The hunter who knew about dharma then spoke these words of great import to the brāhmaṇa.

मार्कंडेय ने कहा: ब्राह्मण ने खुशी से कहा कि उसे किसी भी समस्या का सामना नहीं करना पड़ा। शिकारी ने, जो धर्म के बारे में जानता था, ब्राह्मण से ये अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण बातें कहीं।

पिता माता च भगवन्नेतौ मे दैवतं परम् यद्दैवतेभ्यः कर्तव्यं तदेताभ्यां करोम्यहम्

"O illustrious one! These two, my father and my mother, are the supreme gods for me and I do for them what is undertaken for the gods.

"हे महान! ये दोनों, मेरे पिता और मेरी माता, मेरे लिए सर्वोच्च देवता हैं और मैं उनके लिए वही करता हूं जो देवताओं के लिए किया जाता है।

त्रयस्त्रिंशद्यथा देवाः सर्वे शक्रपुरोगमाः संपूज्याः सर्वलोकस्य तथा वृद्धाविमौ मम

There are thirty-three gods, with Śākra at the forefront. Just as they are worshipped by all the worlds, so do I tend to my aged parents.

तैंतीस देवता हैं, जिनमें शक्र सबसे आगे हैं। जिस प्रकार समस्त लोक उनकी पूजा करते हैं, उसी प्रकार मैं अपने वृद्ध माता-पिता की सेवा करता हूँ।

उपहारानाहरन्तो देवतानां यथा द्विजाः कुर्वते तद्वदेताभ्यां करोम्यहमतन्द्रितः

Just as brāhmana-s collect offerings for the gods, so do I unceasingly act for these two.

जैसे ब्राह्मण देवताओं के लिए प्रसाद इकट्ठा करते हैं, वैसे ही मैं इन दोनों के लिए निरंतर कार्य करता हूं।

एतौ मे परमं ब्रह्मन्पिता माता च दैवतम् एतौ पुष्पैः फलै रत्नैस्तोषयामि सदा द्विज

O brāhmaṇa! My father and my mother are my supreme gods. O brāhmaṇa! I continuously satisfy them with flowers, fruits and gems.

हे ब्राह्मण! मेरे पिता और मेरी माता मेरे सर्वोच्च देवता हैं। हे ब्राह्मण! मैं उन्हें पुष्पों, फलों तथा रत्नों से निरंतर संतुष्ट करता हूँ।

एतावेवाग्नयो मह्यं यान्वदन्ति मनीषिणः यज्ञा वेदाश्च चत्वारः सर्वमेतौ मम द्विज

They are like the fires the learned ones speak about. O brāhmaṇa! They are everything to me, like sacrifices and the four Veda-s.

वे उस आग के समान हैं जिसके बारे में विद्वान लोग बात करते हैं। हे ब्राह्मण! वे मेरे लिए सबकुछ हैं, जैसे बलिदान और चार वेद।

एतदर्थं मम प्राणा भार्या पुत्राः सुहृज्जनाः सपुत्रदारः शुश्रूषां नित्यमेव करोम्यहम्

My life, my wife, my sons and my well-wishers are for them. With my sons and my wife, I always serve them.

मेरा जीवन, मेरी पत्नी, मेरे बेटे और मेरे शुभचिंतक उनके लिए हैं। मैं अपने पुत्रों तथा पत्नी सहित सदैव उनकी सेवा करता हूँ।

स्वयं च स्नापयाम्येतौ तथा पादौ प्रधावये आहारं संप्रयच्छामि स्वयं च द्विजसत्तम

I bathe them myself and wash their feet. O supreme among brāhmana-s! I give them food myself.

मैं स्वयं उन्हें नहलाता हूँ और उनके पैर धोता हूँ। हे ब्राह्मणों में श्रेष्ठ! मैं उन्हें खुद खाना देता हूं.

अनुकूलाः कथा वच्मि विप्रियं परिवर्जयन् अधर्मेणापि संयुक्तं प्रियमाभ्यां करोम्यहम्

I only speak pleasant things to them, avoiding the unpleasant. So as to bring pleasure to them, I even do that which is adharma.

मैं उनसे केवल सुखद बातें ही बोलता हूं, अप्रिय से बचता हूं। उन्हें प्रसन्न करने के लिए मैं वह भी करता हूँ जो अधर्म है।

धर्ममेव गुरुं ज्ञात्वा करोमि द्विजसत्तम अतन्द्रितः सदा विप्र शुश्रूषां वै करोम्यहम्

O supreme among brāhmana-s! O brāhmaṇa! Knowing dharma to be my preceptor, I tirelessly serve them.

हे ब्राह्मणों में श्रेष्ठ! हे ब्राह्मण! मैं धर्म को अपना गुरु जानकर उनकी अथक सेवा करता हूँ।

पञ्चैव गुरवो ब्रह्मन्पुरुषस्य बुभूषतः पिता माताग्निरात्मा च गुरुश्च द्विजसत्तम

O brāhmaṇa! It has been said that a man prospers through five guru-s—the father, the mother, the fire, he himself and the preceptor.

एतेषु यस्तु वर्तेत सम्यगेव द्विजोत्तम भवेयुरग्नयस्तस्य परिचीर्णास्तु नित्यशः गार्हस्थ्ये वर्तमानस्य धर्म एष सनातनः

O supreme among brāhmana-s! If they are served properly, they always remain for him, like well-tended fires. That is the eternal dharma for those who are in the householder stage."
