जनमेजय उवाच पाण्डोः पुत्रा महात्मानः सर्वे दिव्यपराक्रमाः कियन्तं कालमवसन्पर्वते गन्धमादने

Janamejaya asked: How long did the great-souled sons of Pāṇḍu, all of them divine in valour, live on Mount Gandhamādana?

जनमेजय ने पूछा: पांडु के महान आत्मा वाले पुत्र, वे सभी वीरता में दिव्य थे, गंधमादन पर्वत पर कितने समय तक रहे?

कानि चाभ्यवहार्याणि तत्र तेषां महात्मनाम् वसतां लोकवीराणामासंस्तद्ब्रूहि सत्तम

O virtuous one! What did those great-souled ones, valorous in the world, subsist on, while they lived there?

हे धर्मात्मा! संसार में शूरवीर वे महानुभाव वहाँ रहते हुए किससे निर्वाह करते थे?

विस्तरेण च मे शंस भीमसेनपराक्रमम् यद्यच्चक्रे महाबाहुस्तस्मिन्हैमवते गिरौ न खल्वासीत्पुनर्युद्धं तस्य यक्षैर्द्विजोत्तम

Tell me. Tell me in detail about Bhīmasena's prowess. What did the mighty-armed one accomplish in those Himālaya mountains? O, supreme among brāhmana-s! Did he wage war against the yakṣa-s again?

मुझे बताओ। भीमसेन के पराक्रम के विषय में विस्तारपूर्वक बताइये। उस महाबाहु ने उन हिमालय पर्वतों में क्या किया? हे ब्राह्मणों में श्रेष्ठ! क्या उसने यक्षों के विरुद्ध फिर से युद्ध छेड़ा?

कच्चित्समागमस्तेषामासीद्वैश्रवणेन च तत्र ह्यायाति धनद आर्ष्टिषेणो यथाब्रवीत्

Did they ever meet Vaiśravaṇa? Ārṣṭiṣeṇa did say that the lord of riches visits the place.

क्या वे कभी वैश्रवण से मिले थे? आर्ष्टिषेण ने कहा कि धन के स्वामी उस स्थान पर आते हैं।

एतदिच्छाम्यहं श्रोतुं विस्तरेण तपोधन न हि मे शृण्वतस्तृप्तिरस्ति तेषां विचेष्टितम्

O one rich in austerities! I wish to hear all this in great detail. I am never satiated on hearing about their deeds."

हे तपस्या के धनी! मैं यह सब विस्तारपूर्वक सुनना चाहता हूँ। मैं उनके कार्यों के बारे में सुनकर कभी तृप्त नहीं होता।”

वैशंपायन उवाच एतदात्महितं श्रुत्वा तस्याप्रतिमतेजसः शासनं सततं चक्रुस्तथैव भरतर्षभाः

Vaiśampāyana said: After having heard the instructions of the immensely energetic one, good for their welfare, the bulls among the Bhārata lineage always abided by them.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: अपने कल्याण के लिए अत्यंत ऊर्जावान भगवान के निर्देशों को सुनने के बाद, भरत वंश के बैल हमेशा उनका पालन करते थे।

भुञ्जाना मुनिभोज्यानि रसवन्ति फलानि च शुद्धबाणहतानां च मृगाणां पिशितान्यपि

They lived on the food of hermits, succulent fruits, the meat of deer shot with pure arrows and different kinds of pure honey.

वे साधुओं के भोजन, रसीले फलों, शुद्ध बाणों से मारे गए हिरण के मांस और विभिन्न प्रकार के शुद्ध शहद पर रहते थे।

मेध्यानि हिमवत्पृष्ठे मधूनि विविधानि च एवं ते न्यवसंस्तत्र पाण्डवा भरतर्षभाः

The Pāṇḍava-s, bulls among the Bhārata lineage, dwelt on the slopes of the Himālaya-s.

भरत वंश के पांडव, बैल, हिमालय की ढलानों पर रहते थे।

तथा निवसतां तेषां पञ्चमं वर्षमभ्यगात् शृण्वतां लोमशोक्तानि वाक्यानि विविधानि च

In this fashion, they lived there for five years, listening to the many words spoken by Lomaśa.

इस तरह, वे लोमश द्वारा कहे गए कई शब्दों को सुनते हुए, पांच साल तक वहां रहे।

कृत्यकाल उपस्थास्य इति चोक्त्वा घटोत्कचः राक्षसैः सहितः सर्वैः पूर्वमेव गतः प्रभो

O lord! Ghaṭotkaca had left earlier with all the other rākṣasa-s, saying that he would return whenever the occasion demanded.

हे भगवान! घटोत्कच अन्य सभी राक्षसों के साथ पहले ही यह कहकर चला गया था कि जब भी अवसर पड़ेगा वह वापस आ जाएगा।

आर्ष्टिषेणाश्रमे तेषां वसतां वै महात्मनाम् अगच्छन्बहवो मासाः पश्यतां महदद्भुतम्

Many months passed while the great-souled ones dwelt in Ārṣṭiṣeṇa's hermitage and they witnessed many great marvels.

जब महान आत्मा वाले लोग आर्ष्टिसेन के आश्रम में निवास कर रहे थे, तब कई महीने बीत गए और उन्होंने कई महान चमत्कार देखे।

तैस्तत्र रममाणैश्च विहरद्भिश्च पाण्डवैः प्रीतिमन्तो महाभागा मुनयश्चारणास्तथा

While the Pāṇḍava-s happily lived there and sported themselves, many immensely fortunate hermits and cāraṇa-s,

जबकि पांडव खुशी से वहां रहते थे और खुद को क्रीड़ा करते थे, कई बेहद भाग्यशाली साधु और चारण,

आजग्मुः पाण्डवान्द्रष्टुं सिद्धात्मानो यतव्रताः तैस्तैः सह कथाश्चक्रुर्दिव्या भरतसत्तमाः

pure in soul and rigid in their vows, came to see the Pāṇḍava-s and held conversations with the supreme of the Bhārata lineage on celestial matters.

आत्मा में शुद्ध और अपनी प्रतिज्ञा में दृढ़, पांडवों से मिलने आए और दिव्य विषयों पर भरत वंश के सर्वोच्च के साथ बातचीत की।

ततः कतिपयाहस्य महाह्रदनिवासिनम् ऋद्धिमन्तं महानागं सुपर्णः सहसाहरत्

After some time, a suparṇa suddenly carried away a handsome and giant serpent that used to dwell in the giant lake.

कुछ समय बाद, एक सुपर्ण अचानक एक सुंदर और विशाल साँप को ले गया जो विशाल झील में रहता था।

प्राकम्पत महाशैलः प्रामृद्यन्त महाद्रुमाः ददृशुः सर्वभूतानि पाण्डवाश्च तदद्भुतम्

The mighty mountain began to tremble and many large trees were torn down. With all beings, the Pāṇḍava-s witnessed this extraordinary sight.

विशाल पर्वत कांपने लगा और कई बड़े पेड़ धराशायी हो गये। सभी प्राणियों के साथ, पांडवों ने यह असाधारण दृश्य देखा।

ततः शैलोत्तमस्याग्रात्पाण्डवान्प्रति मारुतः अवहत्सर्वमाल्यानि गन्धवन्ति शुभानि च

Then, from that supreme mountain, a wind blew towards the Pāṇḍava-s and carried many different kinds of beautiful and fragrant flowers.

तभी, उस सर्वोच्च पर्वत से, पांडवों की ओर एक हवा चली और कई प्रकार के सुंदर और सुगंधित फूल ले गई।

तत्र पुष्पाणि दिव्यानि सुहृद्भिः सह पाण्डवाः ददृशुः पञ्च वर्णानि द्रौपदी च यशस्विनी

With their well-wishers and with the famous Draupadī, the Pāṇḍava-s saw those divine flowers, with five different colours.

अपने शुभचिंतकों और प्रसिद्ध द्रौपदी के साथ, पांडवों ने पांच अलग-अलग रंगों वाले उन दिव्य फूलों को देखा।

भीमसेनं ततः कृष्णा काले वचनमब्रवीत् विविक्ते पर्वतोद्देशे सुखासीनं महाभुजम्

At that time, when the mighty-armed Bhīmasena was comfortably seated at a secluded spot on the mountain, Kṛṣṇā told him,

उस समय, जब महाबाहु भीमसेन पर्वत पर एक एकांत स्थान पर आराम से बैठे थे, कृष्ण ने उनसे कहा,

सुपर्णानिलवेगेन श्वसनेन महाबलात् पञ्चवर्णानि पात्यन्ते पुष्पाणि भरतर्षभ प्रत्यक्षं सर्वभूतानां नदीमश्वरथां प्रति

"O bull among the Bhārata lineage! As a result of the forceful wind generated from the suparṇa's great force, five-coloured blossoms have been dropped near the river Aśvarathā and all the beings have witnessed this.

"हे भरत वंश के बैल! सुपर्णा की महान शक्ति से उत्पन्न प्रचंड हवा के परिणामस्वरूप, अश्वरथ नदी के पास पांच रंग के फूल गिरे हैं और सभी प्राणियों ने इसे देखा है।

खाण्डवे सत्यसंधेन भ्रात्रा तव नरेश्वर गन्धर्वोरगरक्षांसि वासवश्च निवारितः हता मायाविनश्चोग्रा धनुः प्राप्तं च गाण्डिवम्

Your great-souled brother, always driven by truth, once restrained gāndharva-s, serpents, rākṣasa-s and even Vāsava himself, in Khāṇḍava. After killing the ones who resort to māyā, he obtained the bow Gāṇḍīva.

सदैव सत्य से प्रेरित आपके महान आत्मा भाई ने एक बार खांडव में गंधर्वों, नागों, राक्षसों और यहां तक ​​कि स्वयं वसाव को भी रोक लिया था। माया का सहारा लेने वालों को मारकर उन्होंने गाण्डीव धनुष प्राप्त किया।

तवापि सुमहत्तेजो महद्बाहुबलं च ते अविषह्यमनाधृष्यं शतक्रतुबलोपमम्

You also possess enormous energy and great strength of arms. You are indomitable and irresistible and are the equal of Śatakratu in your strength.

आपके पास अपार ऊर्जा और भुजाओं की महान शक्ति भी है। आप अदम्य और अप्रतिरोध्य हैं और अपनी शक्ति में शतक्रतु के समान हैं।

त्वद्बाहुबलवेगेन त्रासिताः सर्वराक्षसाः हित्वा शैलं प्रपद्यन्तां भीमसेन दिशो दश

Let all the rākṣasa-s be terrified of the force and strength of your arms. O Bhīmasena! They will leave this mountain and flee in the ten directions.

आपकी भुजाओं के बल और शक्ति से सभी राक्षस भयभीत हो जायें। हे भीमसेन! वे इस पर्वत को छोड़कर दसों दिशाओं में भाग जायेंगे।

ततः शैलोत्तमस्याग्रं चित्रमाल्यधरं शिवम् व्यपेतभयसंमोहाः पश्यन्तु सुहृदस्तव

Then, devoid of all fear and delusion, let all your well-wishers behold this supreme mountain, auspicious and adorned with colourful flowers.

फिर सभी प्रकार के भय और भ्रम से रहित होकर, आपके सभी शुभचिंतक शुभ और रंग-बिरंगे फूलों से सुशोभित इस परम पर्वत को देखें।

एवं प्रणिहितं भीम चिरात्प्रभृति मे मनः द्रष्टुमिच्छामि शैलाग्रं त्वद्बाहुबलमाश्रिता

O Bhīmā! This thought has been in my mind for a long time. Protected through the strength of your arms, I wish to see the top of this mountain."

हे भीम! यह विचार मेरे मन में काफी समय से है. आपकी भुजाओं के बल से सुरक्षित होकर, मैं इस पर्वत की चोटी को देखना चाहता हूँ।"

ततः क्षिप्तमिवात्मानं द्रौपद्या स परंतपः नामृष्यत महाबाहुः प्रहारमिव सद्गवः

The scorcher of enemies was maddened by Draupadī's words. The mighty-armed one could not stand it, like an excellent bull that has been beaten.

द्रौपदी की बातों से शत्रुओं का दल क्रोधित हो गया। मार खाये हुए उत्तम बैल की भाँति महाबाहु इसे सहन नहीं कर सका।

सिंहर्षभगतिः श्रीमानुदारः कनकप्रभः मनस्वी बलवान्दृप्तो मानी शूरश्च पाण्डवः

His gait was like that of a lion or a bull. He was handsome and noble. His complexion was like that of gold. He was spirited and strong, powerful and proud.

उसकी चाल शेर या बैल जैसी थी। वह सुंदर और कुलीन था. उसका रंग सोने के समान था। वह उत्साही और मजबूत, शक्तिशाली और गौरवान्वित था।

लोहिताक्षः पृथुव्यंसो मत्तवारणविक्रमः सिंहदंष्ट्रो बृहत्स्कन्धः शालपोत इवोद्गतः

The brave Pāṇḍava's eyes were red and his shoulders were wide. He was like a maddened elephant in his valour. His teeth were like a lion's and his shoulders were expansive. He was as tall as a young śala tree.

वीर पांडव की आंखें लाल थीं और कंधे चौड़े थे। वह वीरता में उन्मत्त हाथी के समान था। उसके दाँत सिंह के समान थे और कन्धे चौड़े थे। वह एक युवा शाल वृक्ष के समान लंबा था।

महात्मा चारुसर्वाङ्गः कम्बुग्रीवो महाभुजः रुक्मपृष्ठं धनुः खड्गं तूणांश्चापि परामृशत्

The great-souled one was beautiful in all his limbs. His neck was like a conch shell and his arms were huge. He grasped his gold-plated bow, his sword and his quivers.

वह महाबली अपने सभी अंगों से सुन्दर था। उनकी गर्दन शंख के समान थी और भुजाएं विशाल थीं। उसने अपना सोना चढ़ाया हुआ धनुष, अपनी तलवार और अपने तरकश पकड़ लिये।

केसरीव यथोत्सिक्तः प्रभिन्न इव वारणः व्यपेतभयसंमोहः शैलमभ्यपतद्बली

Like an insolent lion, or like a maddened elephant, the strong one rushed towards the mountain, free from fear or delusion.

एक ढीठ शेर की तरह, या एक पागल हाथी की तरह, बलवान भय या भ्रम से मुक्त होकर पहाड़ की ओर दौड़ पड़ा।

तं मृगेन्द्रमिवायान्तं प्रभिन्नमिव वारणम् ददृशुः सर्वभूतानि बाणखड्गधनुर्धरम्

All the beings saw him, wielding his arrows, sword and bow, like a king of the beasts, or a maddened elephant.

सभी प्राणियों ने उसे जानवरों के राजा या पागल हाथी की तरह तीर, तलवार और धनुष चलाते हुए देखा।

द्रौपद्या वर्धयन्हर्षं गदामादाय पाण्डवः व्यपेतभयसंमोहः शैलराजं समाविशत्

The Pāṇḍava was devoid of fear or delusion. To increase Draupadī's happiness, he grasped a club and penetrated the king of the mountains.

पांडव भय या भ्रम से रहित थे। द्रौपदी की ख़ुशी बढ़ाने के लिए, उसने एक गदा पकड़ी और पर्वतों के राजा में घुस गया।

न ग्लानिर्न च कातर्यं न वैक्लव्यं न मत्सरः कदाचिज्जुषते पार्थमात्मजं मातरिश्वनः

Pārtha, the son of the wind-god, was not bothered by fatigue, fear, lassitude or envy.

पवनदेव के पुत्र पार्थ को थकान, भय, आलस्य या ईर्ष्या से कोई परेशानी नहीं थी।

तदेकायनमासाद्य विषमं भीमदर्शनम् बहुतालोच्छ्रयं शृङ्गमारुरोह महाबलः

He came to a terrible-looking and uneven paś-sage that only one person could paś-s through at a time. Through this, the immensely strong one ascended the peak, as tall as many palm trees.

वह एक भयानक दिखने वाले और असमान पास-सेज के पास आया जिससे एक समय में केवल एक ही व्यक्ति गुजर सकता था। इसके माध्यम से, अत्यधिक शक्तिशाली व्यक्ति शिखर पर चढ़ गया, जो कई ताड़ के पेड़ों जितना ऊँचा था।

स किंनरमहानागमुनिगन्धर्वराक्षसान् हर्षयन्पर्वतस्याग्रमाससाद महाबलः

Agitating kinnara-s, great serpents, hermits, gāndharva-s and rākṣasa-s, the immensely strong one ascended the mountain.

उत्तेजित किन्नर, महान नाग, साधु, गंधर्व और राक्षस, अत्यंत बलशाली पर्वत पर चढ़ गए।

तत्र वैश्रवणावासं ददर्श भरतर्षभः काञ्चनैः स्फाटिकाकारैर्वेश्मभिः समलंकृतम्

The bull among the Bhārata lineage saw Vaiśravaṇa's abode there. It was ornamented with golden and crystalline buildings.

भरत वंश के बैल ने वहां वैश्रवण का निवास देखा। यह सुनहरी और क्रिस्टलीय इमारतों से अलंकृत था।

मोदयन्सर्वभूतानि गन्धमादनसंभवः सर्वगन्धवहस्तत्र मारुतः सुसुखो ववौ

Gladden-ing all beings, an extremely pleasant breeze blew there, arising from Gandhamādana, and carrying all the various fragrances in it.

सभी प्राणियों को आनंदित करते हुए, गंधमादन से उठी और सभी प्रकार की सुगंधों को लेकर एक अत्यंत सुखद हवा वहां चली।

चित्रा विविधवर्णाभाश्चित्रमञ्जरिधारिणः अचिन्त्या विविधास्तत्र द्रुमाः परमशोभनाः

There were many beautiful trees of diverse kinds, extraordinary and colourful and beyond all thought.

वहाँ विविध प्रकार के, असाधारण और रंग-बिरंगे और सभी सोच से परे कई खूबसूरत पेड़ थे।

रत्नजालपरिक्षिप्तं चित्रमाल्यधरं शिवम् राक्षसाधिपतेः स्थानं ददर्श भरतर्षभः

The bull among the Bhārata lineage then saw the abode of the lord of the rākṣasa-s.

तब भरत वंश के बैल ने राक्षसों के स्वामी का निवास देखा।

गदाखड्गधनुष्पाणिः समभित्यक्तजीवितः भीमसेनो महाबाहुस्तस्थौ गिरिरिवाचलः

It was covered on all sides by a network of gems. It was pure and was adorned with beautiful flowers. The mighty-armed Bhīmasena stood there, as immobile as a mountain.

वह चारों ओर से रत्नों के जाल से ढका हुआ था। वह पवित्र था और सुंदर फूलों से सजा हुआ था। महाबाहु भीमसेन पर्वत के समान स्थिर खड़े थे।

ततः शङ्खमुपाध्मासीद्द्विषतां लोमहर्षणम् ज्याघोषतलघोषं च कृत्वा भूतान्यमोहयत्

Prepared to give up his life, he held a club, a sword, a bow and arrows in his hand. He then blew on his conch shell and this made the body hair of his enemies stand up. He twanged his bow and slapped his arms and terrified all beings.

अपनी जान देने के लिए तैयार होकर, उन्होंने अपने हाथ में एक गदा, एक तलवार, एक धनुष और तीर रखा। फिर उसने अपना शंख बजाया और इससे उसके दुश्मनों के शरीर के बाल खड़े हो गए। उसने अपने धनुष को घुमाया और अपनी भुजाओं पर प्रहार किया और सभी प्राणियों को भयभीत कर दिया।

ततः संहृष्टरोमाणः शब्दं तमभिदुद्रुवुः यक्षराक्षसगन्धर्वाः पाण्डवस्य समीपतः

Their body hair standing up, yakṣa-s, rākṣasa-s and gāndharva-s rushed towards the sound and approached Pāṇḍava.

उनके शरीर के बाल खड़े हो गए, यक्ष, राक्षस और गंधर्व ध्वनि की ओर दौड़े और पांडवों के पास पहुंचे।

गदापरिघनिस्त्रिंशशक्तिशूलपरश्वधाः प्रगृहीता व्यरोचन्त यक्षराक्षसबाहुभिः

The clubs, maces, swords, spears, lances and battleaxes, taken up by the yakṣa-s and rākṣasa-s in their arms, began to blaze.

यक्ष और राक्षसों द्वारा अपनी भुजाओं में उठाई गई गदाएँ, गदाएँ, तलवारें, भाले, भाले और फरसे जलने लगे।

ततः प्रववृते युद्धं तेषां तस्य च भारत तैः प्रयुक्तान्महाकायैः शक्तिशूलपरश्वधान् भल्लैर्भीमः प्रचिच्छेद भीमवेगतरैस्ततः

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Then a war started between them and him. With terrible force and speed, Bhīmā used his arrows to slice off the spears, lances and battleaxes hurled at him by those gigantic ones.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! फिर उनके और उनके बीच युद्ध शुरू हो गया. भीम ने भयंकर बल और वेग के साथ अपने बाणों का प्रयोग उन विशाल भालों, भालों और फरसों को काटने के लिए किया जो उस पर फेंके गए थे।

अन्तरिक्षचराणां च भूमिष्ठानां च गर्जताम् शरैर्विव्याध गात्राणि राक्षसानां महाबलः

The immensely powerful one pierced the bodies of the rākṣasa-s with his arrows and they roared, while roaming around in the sky and on the ground.

अत्यंत शक्तिशाली ने अपने बाणों से राक्षसों के शरीर को घायल कर दिया और वे आकाश और पृथ्वी पर घूमते हुए गर्जना करने लगे।

सा लोहितमहावृष्टिरभ्यवर्षन्महाबलम् कायेभ्यः प्रच्युता धारा राक्षसानां समन्ततः

A great shower of blood rained down on the immensely strong one, flowing from the bodies of the rākṣasa-s in every direction.

राक्षसों के शरीर से हर दिशा में बहते हुए अत्यंत शक्तिशाली रक्त की भारी वर्षा होने लगी।

भीमबाहुबलोत्सृष्टैर्बहुधा यक्षरक्षसाम् विनिकृत्तान्यदृश्यन्त शरीराणि शिरांसि च

Many heads and bodies of the yakṣa-s and the rākṣasa-s were seen to be sliced off through what Bhīmā's mighty arms released.

भीम की शक्तिशाली भुजाओं द्वारा छोड़े गए प्रहार से यक्षों और राक्षसों के कई सिर और शरीर कटे हुए दिखाई दिए।

प्रच्छाद्यमानं रक्षोभिः पाण्डवं प्रियदर्शनम् ददृशुः सर्वभूतानि सूर्यमभ्रगणैरिव

All the beings then saw the handsome Pāṇḍava enveloped by the rākṣasa-s, like the sun with masses of clouds.

तब सभी प्राणियों ने राक्षसों से घिरे हुए उस सुन्दर पाण्डव को देखा, जैसे सूर्य बादलों के समूह से घिरा हुआ हो।

स रश्मिभिरिवादित्यः शरैररिनिघातिभिः सर्वानार्छन्महाबाहुर्बलवान्सत्यविक्रमः

But just as the sun penetrates everything with its rays, the mighty-armed and powerful one, with truth as his valour, penetrated all of them with his arrows.

लेकिन जैसे सूर्य अपनी किरणों से हर चीज को भेद देता है, वैसे ही महाबाहु और शक्तिशाली सूर्य ने सत्य के साथ अपनी वीरता के साथ अपने बाणों से उन सभी को भेद दिया।

अभितर्जयमानाश्च रुवन्तश्च महारवान् न मोहं भीमसेनस्य ददृशुः सर्वराक्षसाः

They uttered loud roars and victorious cries. But all the rākṣasa-s could not see any delusion in Bhīmasena.

उन्होंने जोर-जोर से दहाड़ें और विजयी नारे लगाये। लेकिन सभी राक्षस भीमसेन में कोई भ्रम नहीं देख सके।

ते शरैः क्षतसर्वाङ्गा भीमसेनभयार्दिताः भीममार्तस्वरं चक्रुर्विप्रकीर्णमहायुधाः

All their limbs were wounded with his arrows and they were oppressed with their fear of Bhīmasena.

उत्सृज्य ते गदाशूलानसिशक्तिपरश्वधान् दक्षिणां दिशमाजग्मुस्त्रासिता दृढधन्वना

Discarding their clubs, spears, swords, lances and battleaxes, they fled in a southern direction, scared of the one whose bow was firm.

वे अपनी लाठियाँ, भाले, तलवारें, भाले और फरसे छोड़कर, जिसका धनुष दृढ़ था, उससे डरकर दक्षिणी दिशा में भाग गए।

तत्र शूलगदापाणिर्व्यूढोरस्को महाभुजः सखा वैश्रवणस्यासीन्मणिमान्नाम राक्षसः

There remained a mighty-armed and broad-chested rākṣasa. His name was Maniman and he held a spear and a club in his hands. He was Vaiśravaṇa's friend.

वहाँ एक शक्तिशाली भुजाओं वाला और चौड़ी छाती वाला राक्षस रहता था। उसका नाम मणिमान था और उसके हाथों में एक भाला और एक गदा थी। वह वैश्रवण का मित्र था।

अदर्शयदधीकारं पौरुषं च महाबलः स तान्दृष्ट्वा परावृत्तान्स्मयमान इवाब्रवीत्

The mighty-armed one exhibited his authority and his manliness. On seeing them flee, he smilingly said,

महाबाहु ने अपने अधिकार और पौरुष का प्रदर्शन किया। उन्हें भागते देख उसने मुस्कुराते हुए कहा,

एकेन बहवः संख्ये मानुषेण पराजिताः प्राप्य वैश्रवणावासं किं वक्ष्यथ धनेश्वरम्

"On reaching Vaiśravaṇa's abode, what will you tell the lord of riches, since several of you have been defeated in battle by a single man?"

"वैश्रवण के निवास पर पहुंचकर, आप धन के स्वामी से क्या कहेंगे, क्योंकि आपमें से कई लोग एक ही आदमी से युद्ध में हार गए हैं?"

एवमाभाष्य तान्सर्वान्न्यवर्तत स राक्षसः शक्तिशूलगदापाणिरभ्यधावच्च पाण्डवम्

Having spoken these words, the rākṣasa restrained them and dashed towards Pāṇḍava, with a lance, a spear and a club in his hands.

ये शब्द कहकर राक्षस ने उन्हें रोका और हाथ में भाला, भाला और गदा लेकर पांडव की ओर झपटा।

तमापतन्तं वेगेन प्रभिन्नमिव वारणम् वत्सदन्तैस्त्रिभिः पार्श्वे भीमसेनः समर्पयत्

On seeing him forcefully approach, like a maddened elephant, Bhīmasena pierced his side with three calf-toothed arrows.

उसे बलपूर्वक आते देख भीमसेन ने उन्मत्त हाथी की भाँति तीन बछड़े-दांतेदार बाणों से उसकी बगल में छेद कर दिया।

मणिमानपि संक्रुद्धः प्रगृह्य महतीं गदाम् प्राहिणोद्भीमसेनाय परिक्षिप्य महाबलः

Angered, Maniman grasped a gigantic club. Having grasped it, he hurled it with great force at Bhīmasena.

क्रोधित होकर मणिमन ने एक विशाल गदा पकड़ ली। उसे पकड़कर उसने बड़े जोर से भीमसेन पर फेंका।

विद्युद्रूपां महाघोरामाकाशे महतीं गदाम् शरैर्बहुभिरभ्यर्छद्भीमसेनः शिलाशितैः

That gigantic club flashed like lightning in the sky and was extremely terrible. But Bhīmasena shot many arrows that had been sharpened on stone.

वह विशाल गदा आकाश में बिजली के समान चमकती थी और अत्यंत भयानक थी। परन्तु भीमसेन ने पत्थर पर धार किये हुए बहुत से बाण चलाये।

प्रत्यहन्यन्त ते सर्वे गदामासाद्य सायकाः न वेगं धारयामासुर्गदावेगस्य वेगिताः

However, all those arrows were blunted on the club and despite their great force, could not restrain its swift force.

हालाँकि, वे सभी बाण गदा पर कुंद हो गए थे और अपनी महान शक्ति के बावजूद, उसकी तीव्र शक्ति को रोक नहीं सके।

गदायुद्धसमाचारं बुध्यमानः स वीर्यवान् व्यंसयामास तं तस्य प्रहारं भीमविक्रमः

But the valorous one knew the art of fighting with a club and the courageous Bhīmā warded off the blow.

लेकिन वीर गदा से लड़ने की कला जानता था और साहसी भीम ने उस प्रहार को टाल दिया।

ततः शक्तिं महाघोरां रुक्मदण्डामयस्मयीम् तस्मिन्नेवान्तरे धीमान्प्रजहाराथ राक्षसः

Then the wise rākṣasa grasped an extremely terrible javelin with a golden shaft and struck him with it.

तब बुद्धिमान राक्षस ने एक अत्यंत भयानक भाले को सोने के बाण से पकड़ लिया और उससे उस पर प्रहार किया।

सा भुजं भीमनिर्ह्रादा भित्त्वा भीमस्य दक्षिणम् साग्निज्वाला महारौद्रा पपात सहसा भुवि

The extremely terrible weapon was blazing in flames and uttered a loud roar. It pierced Bhīmā's right arm and swiftly fell down on the ground.

वह अत्यंत भयानक अस्त्र आग की लपटों में धधक रहा था और बड़े जोर से गर्जना कर रहा था। इसने भीम की दाहिनी भुजा को छेद दिया और तेजी से जमीन पर गिर पड़ा।

सोऽतिविद्धो महेष्वासः शक्त्यामितपराक्रमः गदां जग्राह कौरव्यो गदायुद्धविशारदः

Having been severely pierced by the javelin, Kauravya, skilled in fighting with clubs, a mighty archer and infinite in valour, grasped his club.

भाले से गंभीर रूप से घायल होने के बाद, गदाओं से लड़ने में कुशल, शक्तिशाली धनुर्धर और अनंत वीरता वाले कौरव्य ने उसकी गदा पकड़ ली।

तां प्रगृह्योन्नदन्भीमः सर्वशैक्यायसीं गदाम् तरसा सोऽभिदुद्राव मणिमन्तं महाबलम्

That club was made entirely out of iron. Brandishing it, Bhīmā rushed with great speed towards the immensely powerful Maniman.

वह गदा पूरी तरह से लोहे से बनी थी। भीम उसे लहराते हुए अत्यंत शक्तिशाली मणिमान की ओर बड़े वेग से दौड़े।

दीप्यमानं महाशूलं प्रगृह्य मणिमानपि प्राहिणोद्भीमसेनाय वेगेन महता नदन्

Maniman also grasped a giant and blazing spear. Uttering a great roar, he flung it at Bhīmasena with force.

मणिमन ने एक विशाल और धधकता हुआ भाला भी पकड़ लिया। उसने बड़ी गर्जना करते हुए बलपूर्वक भीमसेन पर फेंक दिया।

भङ्क्त्वा शूलं गदाग्रेण गदायुद्धविशारदः अभिदुद्राव तं तूर्णं गरुत्मानिव पन्नगम्

But the one who was skilled in fighting with clubs splintered the spear with the end of his club and rushed to destroy him, like Gāruḍa against a serpent.

परन्तु जो गदाओं से युद्ध करने में कुशल था, उसने भाले को गदा के सिरे से टुकड़े-टुकड़े कर दिया और उसे नष्ट करने के लिए दौड़ा, जैसे गरुड़ साँप के विरुद्ध।

सोऽन्तरिक्षमभिप्लुत्य विधूय सहसा गदाम् प्रचिक्षेप महाबाहुर्विनद्य रणमूर्धनि

With the club in his hand, the mighty-armed one suddenly jumped up in the sky. He roared in battle and flung it.

हाथ में गदा लेकर वह महाबाहु अचानक आकाश में उछल पड़ा। उसने युद्ध में गर्जना की और उसे फेंक दिया।

सेन्द्राशनिरिवेन्द्रेण विसृष्टा वातरंहसा हत्वा रक्षः क्षितिं प्राप्य कृत्येव निपपात ह

With the speed of the wind, like the vajra hurled by Indra, it struck the rākṣasa. Having killed him, it fell down on the ground, like a she-demon.

इन्द्र द्वारा फेंके गये वज्र के समान वायु के वेग से वह राक्षस पर लगा। उसे मारकर वह राक्षसी की भाँति भूमि पर गिर पड़ी।

तं राक्षसं भीमबलं भीमसेनेन पातितम् ददृशुः सर्वभूतानि सिंहेनेव गवां पतिम्

All the beings saw how the rākṣasa, terrible in strength, was felled by Bhīmasena, like a bull by a lion.

सभी प्राणियों ने देखा कि किस प्रकार बल में भयानक राक्षस को भीमसेन ने उसी प्रकार मार गिराया, जैसे सिंह द्वारा बैल को।

तं प्रेक्ष्य निहतं भूमौ हतशेषा निशाचराः भीममार्तस्वरं कृत्वा जग्मुः प्राचीं दिशं प्रति

On seeing him dead on the ground, the remaining roamers of the night uttered terrible cries of distress and fled in an eastern direction.

उसे ज़मीन पर मरा हुआ देखकर, रात के बचे हुए घूमने वालों ने भयानक चीखें निकालीं और पूर्वी दिशा में भाग गए।
