वासुदेव उवाच एवमुक्तस्तु कौन्तेय सूतपुत्रस्तदा मृधे प्रद्युम्नमब्रवीच्छ्लक्ष्णं मधुरं वाक्यमञ्जसा

Vāsudeva said: "Having been thus addressed, on that field of battle, the son of a sūta then spoke to Pradyumna in soft and placating words,

वासुदेव ने कहा: "इस प्रकार संबोधित करने के बाद, युद्ध के मैदान में, सूत के पुत्र ने प्रद्युम्न से नरम और शांत शब्दों में बात की,

न मे भयं रौक्मिणेय संग्रामे यच्छतो हयान् युद्धज्ञश्चास्मि वृष्णीनां नात्र किंचिदतोऽन्यथा

"O Rukmiṇī's son! I am not afraid to drive horses in battle. I know the conduct of the Vṛṣṇi-s in battle and it is not different from what you have said.

"हे रुक्मिणी के पुत्र! मैं युद्ध में घोड़ों को हांकने से नहीं डरता। मैं युद्ध में वृष्णियों के आचरण को जानता हूं और यह आपके द्वारा कहे गए शब्दों से भिन्न नहीं है।"

आयुष्मन्नुपदेशस्तु सारथ्ये वर्ततां स्मृतः सर्वार्थेषु रथी रक्ष्यस्त्वं चापि भृशपीडितः

But it has been said that the duty of charioteers is to always protect the life of the warrior. And you were greatly afflicted.

लेकिन कहा गया है कि सारथियों का कर्तव्य सदैव योद्धा के जीवन की रक्षा करना होता है। और तुम्हें बहुत दुःख हुआ।

त्वं हि शाल्वप्रयुक्तेन पत्रिणाभिहतो भृशम् कश्मलाभिहतो वीर ततोऽहमपयातवान्

O hero! You were badly pierced through the arrows unleashed by Śālva. You had also lost consciousness and that is the reason I retreated.

हे वीर! शाल्व द्वारा छोड़े गये बाणों से आप बुरी तरह घायल हो गये थे। तुम भी होश खो बैठे थे और इसीलिए मैं पीछे हट गया।

स त्वं सात्वतमुख्याद्य लब्धसंज्ञो यदृच्छया पश्य मे हयसंयाने शिक्षां केशवनन्दन

O foremost among the Sātvata-s! O son of Keśava! Now that you have regained your senses, in accordance with your wishes, you will see my skill in handling horses.

हे सात्वत-श्रेष्ठ! हे केशव पुत्र! अब जब तुम्हें होश आ गया है तो तुम अपनी इच्छा के अनुरूप घोड़ों को संभालने में मेरी कुशलता देखोगे।

दारुकेणाहमुत्पन्नो यथावच्चैव शिक्षितः वीतभीः प्रविशाम्येतां शाल्वस्य महतीं चमूम्

I have been born from Dāruka and I have been trained by him. Without any fear, I will now penetrate Śālva's great army."

मेरा जन्म दारुक से हुआ है और मैंने उसी से प्रशिक्षण प्राप्त किया है। अब मैं बिना किसी भय के शाल्व की विशाल सेना में प्रवेश करूँगा।"

एवमुक्त्वा ततो वीर हयान्संचोद्य संगरे रश्मिभिश्च समुद्यम्य जवेनाभ्यपतत्तदा

O brave one! Having uttered these words, he tugged at the reins of the horses and drove them speedily.

हे वीर! यह कहकर उसने घोड़ों की लगाम खींची और उन्हें तेजी से हांकने लगा।

मण्डलानि विचित्राणि यमकानीतराणि च सव्यानि च विचित्राणि दक्षिणानि च सर्वशः

He drove them in circular motions, withdrawing them and releasing them again. In beautiful motions, the horses turned to the left and to the right, and everywhere.

उसने उन्हें गोलाकार गतियों में चलाया, उन्हें वापस ले लिया और फिर से छोड़ दिया। सुंदर गतियों में, घोड़े बाएँ और दाएँ, और हर जगह मुड़ गए।

प्रतोदेनाहता राजन्रश्मिभिश्च समुद्यताः उत्पतन्त इवाकाशं विबभुस्ते हयोत्तमाः

O king! Controlled by the reins, those supreme horses seemed to fly through the sky.

हे राजा! लगाम द्वारा नियंत्रित, वे सर्वोच्च घोड़े आकाश में उड़ते हुए प्रतीत होते थे।

ते हस्तलाघवोपेतं विज्ञाय नृप दारुकिम् दह्यमाना इव तदा पस्पृशुश्चरणैर्महीम्

O king! Knowing Dāruki's light touch of hand, it seemed that the horses were on fire, but did not touch the ground with their feet.

हे राजा! दारुकी के हाथ के हल्के स्पर्श को जानकर ऐसा लगा कि घोड़ों में आग लग गई है, लेकिन उनके पैरों से जमीन नहीं छू रही है।

सोऽपसव्यां चमूं तस्य शाल्वस्य भरतर्षभ चकार नातियत्नेन तदद्भुतमिवाभवत्

O bull among the Bhārata lineage! He wheeled around Śālva's army so easily from the right that those who witnessed it thought that it was extraordinary.

हे भरत वंश में बैल! उसने दाहिनी ओर से शाल्व की सेना के चारों ओर इतनी आसानी से चक्कर लगाया कि जिसने भी इसे देखा, उसे लगा कि यह असाधारण है।

अमृष्यमाणोऽपसव्यं प्रद्युम्नेन स सौभराट् यन्तारमस्य सहसा त्रिभिर्बाणैः समर्पयत्

Unable to tolerate this penetration by Pradyumna from the right, the king of Saubha suddenly unleashed three arrows at the charioteer.

दाहिनी ओर से प्रद्युम्न के इस प्रवेश को सहन करने में असमर्थ, सौभा के राजा ने अचानक सारथी पर तीन बाण छोड़े।

दारुकस्य सुतस्तं तु बाणवेगमचिन्तयन् भूय एव महाबाहो प्रययौ हयसंमतः

But Dāruka's son gave no thought to these swift arrows. O mighty-armed one! He continued to drive the horses.

लेकिन दारुक के पुत्र ने इन तीव्र बाणों के बारे में कोई विचार नहीं किया। हे महाबाहु! वह घोड़ों को हाँकता रहा।

ततो बाणान्बहुविधान्पुनरेव स सौभराट् मुमोच तनये वीरे मम रुक्मिणिनन्दने

Then the king of Saubha once again shot many arrows at my brave son, Rukmiṇī's son.

तब सौभा के राजा ने एक बार फिर मेरे वीर पुत्र रुक्मिणी पुत्र पर बहुत से बाण छोड़े।

तानप्राप्ताञ्शितैर्बाणैश्चिच्छेद परवीरहा रौक्मिणेयः स्मितं कृत्वा दर्शयन्हस्तलाघवम्

But before they could strike, Rukmiṇī's son, the destroyer of enemy warriors, exhibited his lightness of touch and smilingly, sliced them off with his own sharp arrows.

लेकिन इससे पहले कि वे हमला कर पाते, रुक्मिणी के पुत्र, शत्रु योद्धाओं का संहारक, ने अपनी सहजता का प्रदर्शन किया और मुस्कुराते हुए, उन्हें अपने तीखे बाणों से काट डाला।

छिन्नान्दृष्ट्वा तु तान्बाणान्प्रद्युम्नेन स सौभराट् आसुरीं दारुणीं मायामास्थाय व्यसृजच्छरान्

On seeing all his arrows sliced down by Pradyumna, the king of Saubha resorted to the terrible māyā of the āsura-s and unleashed his arrows.

प्रद्युम्न द्वारा अपने सभी बाणों को नष्ट होते देख सौभा के राजा ने असुरों की भयानक माया का सहारा लिया और अपने बाण छोड़े।

प्रयुज्यमानमाज्ञाय दैतेयास्त्रं महाबलः ब्रह्मास्त्रेणान्तरा छित्त्वा मुमोचान्यान्पतत्रिणः

Knowing that daitya weapons had been released, he sliced them off by unleashing enormously powerful brahmā arrows.

यह जानते हुए कि दैत्य हथियार छोड़े गए थे, उन्होंने अत्यधिक शक्तिशाली ब्रह्मा बाण चलाकर उन्हें काट दिया।

ते तदस्त्रं विधूयाशु विव्यधू रुधिराशनाः शिरस्युरसि वक्त्रे च स मुमोह पपात च

Those weapons always drink the blood of others and driving the other weapons away, pierced him in the head, chest and face, so that he was knocked down unconscious.

वे हथियार हमेशा दूसरों का खून पीते हैं और दूसरे हथियारों को भगाकर उसके सिर, छाती और चेहरे में छेद कर देते हैं, जिससे वह बेहोश होकर गिर जाता है।

तस्मिन्निपतिते क्षुद्रे शाल्वे बाणप्रपीडिते रौक्मिणेयोऽपरं बाणं संदधे शत्रुनाशनम्

Thus, oppressed by arrows, the mean Śālva fell down. So as to destroy the enemy, Rukmiṇī's son fixed another supreme arrow.

इस प्रकार बाणों से पीड़ित होकर नीच शाल्व गिर पड़ा। शत्रु को नष्ट करने के लिए रुक्मिणी के पुत्र ने एक और उत्तम बाण लगाया।

तमर्चितं सर्वदाशार्हपूगै;राशीर्भिरर्कज्वलनप्रकाशम् दृष्ट्वा शरं ज्यामभिनीयमानं; बभूव हाहाकृतमन्तरिक्षम्

All the bulls of the Dāśārha-s used to worship this arrow, which was as radiant as the sun and the fire. On seeing it fixed to the bow, sounds of lamentation were heard in the sky.

दशार्ह के सभी बैल इस बाण की पूजा करते थे, जो सूर्य और अग्नि के समान तेजस्वी था। उसे धनुष पर प्रत्यंचा हुआ देखकर आकाश में विलाप की ध्वनियाँ सुनाई देने लगीं।

ततो देवगणाः सर्वे सेन्द्राः सह धनेश्वराः नारदं प्रेषयामासुः श्वसनं च महाबलम्

All the masses of gods, together with Indra and the lord of riches, sent Nārada and the immensely strong god of the wind.

इंद्र और धन के स्वामी सहित सभी देवताओं ने नारद और अत्यंत शक्तिशाली पवन देवता को भेजा।

तौ रौक्मिणेयमागम्य वचोऽब्रूतां दिवौकसाम् नैष वध्यस्त्वया वीर शाल्वराजः कथंचन

These two went to Rukmiṇī's son and delivered the message of the gods, "O brave one! You should never kill King Śālva.

ये दोनों रुक्मिणी के पुत्र के पास गए और देवताओं का संदेश दिया, "हे वीर! तुम्हें राजा शाल्व को कभी नहीं मारना चाहिए।"

संहरस्व पुनर्बाणमवध्योऽयं त्वया रणे एतस्य हि शरस्याजौ नावध्योऽस्ति पुमान्क्वचित्

Restrain the arrow, because he is not to be killed by you in battle. There is no man who cannot be killed by this arrow.

बाण को रोक लो, क्योंकि वह युद्ध में तुम्हारे हाथों नहीं मारा जायेगा। ऐसा कोई मनुष्य नहीं है जो इस बाण से न मारा जा सके।

मृत्युरस्य महाबाहो रणे देवकिनन्दनः कृष्णः संकल्पितो धात्रा तन्न मिथ्या भवेदिति

O mighty-armed one! But it has been destined by the creator that he will be killed in battle by Devakī's son Kṛṣṇā and that should not become false.

हे महाबाहु! लेकिन यह विधाता द्वारा निर्धारित किया गया है कि वह देवकी के पुत्र कृष्ण द्वारा युद्ध में मारा जाएगा और यह गलत नहीं होना चाहिए।

ततः परमसंहृष्टः प्रद्युम्नः शरमुत्तमम् संजहार धनुःश्रेष्ठात्तूणे चैव न्यवेशयत्

At that, Pradyumna was extremely delighted and withdrew that supreme arrow from the excellent bow and returned it to the quiver.

इस पर प्रद्युम्न अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुआ और उसने उत्तम धनुष से वह परम बाण निकालकर तरकश में रख दिया।

तत उत्थाय राजेन्द्र शाल्वः परमदुर्मनाः व्यपायात्सबलस्तूर्णं प्रद्युम्नशरपीडितः

O Indra among kings! Then Śālva arose, in an extremely miserable frame of mind. Oppressed by Pradyumna's arrows, he swiftly retreated with his troops.

हे राजाओं में इन्द्र! तब शाल्व अत्यंत दुखी मन से उठा। प्रद्युम्न के बाणों से पीड़ित होकर वह अपनी सेना सहित तेजी से पीछे हट गया।

स द्वारकां परित्यज्य क्रूरो वृष्णिभिरर्दितः सौभमास्थाय राजेन्द्र दिवमाचक्रमे तदा

O Indra among kings! Vanquished by the Vṛṣṇi-s, the cruel one left Dvārakā. He ascended Saubha and went up into the sky."

हे राजाओं में इन्द्र! वृष्णिवंशियों द्वारा परास्त होकर, क्रूर व्यक्ति ने द्वारका छोड़ दिया। वह सौभा पर चढ़ गया और आकाश में चला गया।"
