जनमेजय उवाच तस्मिन्कृतास्त्रे रथिनां प्रधाने; प्रत्यागते भवनाद्वृत्रहन्तुः अतः परं किमकुर्वन्त पार्थाः; समेत्य शूरेण धनंजयेन

Janamejaya asked: When that great charioteer, skilled in weapons, returned from the abode of Vṛtra's slayer, what did the Pārtha-s accomplish next, now that they had been rejoined by the brave Dhanañjayā?

जनमेजय ने पूछा: जब वह महान सारथी, हथियारों में कुशल, वृत्र के हत्यारे के निवास से लौटा, तो पार्थों ने आगे क्या हासिल किया, अब वे बहादुर धनंजय से फिर से जुड़ गए थे?

वैशंपायन उवाच वनेषु तेष्वेव तु ते नरेन्द्राः; सहार्जुनेनेन्द्रसमेन वीराः तस्मिंश्च शैलप्रवरे सुरम्ये; धनेश्वराक्रीडगता विजह्रुः

Vaiśampāyana said: Those Indra-s among men lived in that forest. The brave ones sported there on that beautiful mountain, the lovely pleasure ground of the lord of riches, with Arjuna, equal to Indra himself.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: वे पुरुष इन्द्र उस वन में रहते थे। उस सुन्दर पर्वत पर, जो धन के देवता की रमणीय भूमि है, वीर लोग इन्द्र के समान अर्जुन के साथ वहाँ क्रीड़ा करते थे।

वेश्मानि तान्यप्रतिमानि पश्य;न्क्रीडाश्च नानाद्रुमसंनिकर्षाः चचार धन्वी बहुधा नरेन्द्रः; सोऽस्त्रेषु यत्तः सततं किरीटी

On seeing those unmatched houses and pleasure grounds covered with many trees, Kirīṭī, Indra among men, always immersed in his weapons and with the bow in his hand, roamed around a lot.

उन अनुपम मकानों और अनेक वृक्षों से आच्छादित सुखक्षेत्रों को देखकर मनुष्यों में किरीटी नामक इन्द्र सदैव अपने शस्त्रों में मग्न रहने वाले तथा हाथ में धनुष लिये बहुत घूमने लगे।

अवाप्य वासं नरदेवपुत्राः; प्रसादजं वैश्रवणस्य राज्ञः न प्राणिनां ते स्पृहयन्ति राज;ञ्शिवश्च कालः स बभूव तेषाम्

Through the favours of King Vaiśravaṇa, those sons of a king had found an abode and no longer desired what beings want. That time was a blessing for them.

राजा वैश्रवण की कृपा से, राजा के उन पुत्रों को एक निवास स्थान मिल गया था और अब वे वह नहीं चाहते जो प्राणी चाहते हैं। वह समय उनके लिए वरदान था।

समेत्य पार्थेन यथैकरात्र;मूषुः समास्तत्र तदा चतस्रः पूर्वाश्च षट्ता दश पाण्डवानां; शिवा बभूवुर्वसतां वनेषु

They were united with Pārtha and lived for four years there and these years they spent there seemed like a single night. With the earlier six, it was now ten years that the Pāṇḍava-s had peacefully dwelt in the forest.

वे पार्थ के साथ एकाकार हो गये और वहाँ चार वर्ष तक रहे और वहाँ बिताए ये वर्ष उन्हें एक ही रात के समान प्रतीत हुए। पहले छह के साथ, अब दस साल हो गए थे जब पांडव शांति से जंगल में रह रहे थे।

ततोऽब्रवीद्वायुसुतस्तरस्वी; जिष्णुश्च राजानमुपोपविश्य यमौ च वीरौ सुरराजकल्पा;वेकान्तमास्थाय हितं प्रियं च

Once, Vāyu's intrepid son was seated near the king, together with Jiṣṇu and the twins, the equals of the king of the gods. In private, he gently spoke these beneficial words.s

एक बार, वायु का निडर पुत्र जिष्णु और जुड़वा बच्चों, जो देवताओं के राजा के समकक्ष थे, के साथ राजा के पास बैठा था। एकांत में उसने धीरे से ये लाभकारी बातें कहीं

तव प्रतिज्ञां कुरुराज सत्यां; चिकीर्षमाणास्त्वदनु प्रियं च ततोऽनुगच्छाम वनान्यपास्य; सुयोधनं सानुचरं निहन्तुम्

"O king of the Kuru-s! In order to ensure that your oath remained true and to do that which would make you happy, we followed you into the forest and did not kill Suyodhana, together with his followers.

"हे कुरु-राज! यह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए कि आपकी शपथ सच्ची रहे और वह काम करें जिससे आपको ख़ुशी मिले, हम आपके पीछे-पीछे जंगल में गए और सुयोधन को उसके अनुयायियों सहित नहीं मारा।

एकादशं वर्षमिदं वसामः; सुयोधनेनात्तसुखाः सुखार्हाः तं वञ्चयित्वाधमबुद्धिशील;मज्ञातवासं सुखमाप्नुयामः

We have lived here for eleven years. We are deserving of happiness, but Suyodhana has grasped that happiness. We should now deceive that scoundrel, lacking in intelligence and conduct. Let us happily resort to a life that will be incognito.

हम यहां ग्यारह साल से रह रहे हैं। हम सुख के पात्र हैं, लेकिन सुयोधन ने उस सुख को समझ लिया है। हमें अब बुद्धि और आचरण से हीन उस दुष्ट को धोखा देना चाहिए। आइए हम खुशी-खुशी एक ऐसे जीवन का सहारा लें जो गुप्त होगा।

तवाज्ञया पार्थिव निर्विशङ्का; विहाय मानं विचरन्वनानि समीपवासेन विलोभितास्ते; ज्ञास्यन्ति नास्मानपकृष्टदेशान्

O king! On your instructions, we lived without anxiety and spent this time roaming in the forest. He will be deluded because we have lived nearby and will not get to know if we move to a distant region.

हे राजा! आपकी आज्ञा से हम लोग निश्चिंत होकर इस समय वन में घूमते रहे। वह धोखा खा जायेगा क्योंकि हम पास-पास रहते हैं और दूर प्रदेश में चले जायेंगे तो पता नहीं चलेगा।

संवत्सरं तं तु विहृत्य गूढं; नराधमं तं सुखमुद्धरेम निर्यात्य वैरं सफलं सपुष्पं; तस्मै नरेन्द्राधमपूरुषाय

Having spent one year in hiding, we will easily uproot that worst of men. O Indra among kings! We will reap the enmity, with all its fruits and flowers on the one surrounded by all his followers,

एक साल छुपकर बिताने के बाद हम उस बुरे आदमी को आसानी से उखाड़ फेंकेंगे। हे राजाओं में इन्द्र! हम शत्रुता का फल, उसके सभी फलों और फूलों के साथ, उसके सभी अनुयायियों से घिरे हुए व्यक्ति से प्राप्त करेंगे,

सुयोधनायानुचरैर्वृताय; ततो महीमाहर धर्मराज स्वर्गोपमं शैलमिमं चरद्भिः; शक्यो विहन्तुं नरदेव शोकः

that scoundrel among men, Suyodhana. O Dharmarāja! Accept the world as your own. O god among men! Kill this grief. We are capable of roaming this mountain that is like heaven.

वह मनुष्यों में दुष्ट सुयोधन है। हे धर्मराज! संसार को अपना मानो। हे मनुष्यों में ईश्वर! इस दुःख को मार डालो. हम इस स्वर्ग समान पर्वत पर विचरण करने में समर्थ हैं।

कीर्तिश्च ते भारत पुण्यगन्धा; नश्येत लोकेषु चराचरेषु तत्प्राप्य राज्यं कुरुपुंगवानां; शक्यं महत्प्राप्तमथ क्रियाश्च

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Your fragrant deeds may be destroyed in this world of the mobile and the immobile. But by regaining the kingdom of the bulls among the Kuru-s, you are capable of performing great deeds and great rituals.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! इस स्थावर और स्थावर संसार में आपके सुगन्धित कर्म नष्ट हो सकते हैं। परंतु कुरुवंशियों के बीच बैलों का राज्य पुनः प्राप्त करके, आप महान कार्य और महान अनुष्ठान करने में सक्षम हैं।

इदं तु शक्यं सततं नरेन्द्र; प्राप्तुं त्वया यल्लभसे कुबेरात् कुरुष्व बुद्धिं द्विषतां वधाय; कृतागसां भारत निग्रहे च

O Indra among men! You are always capable of obtaining whatever you want from Kubera. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Set your heart on the slaying of those who hate you and on punishing them, because they have oppressed you.

हे मनुष्यों में इंद्र! आप कुबेर से जो चाहें प्राप्त करने में सदैव सक्षम हैं। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! अपना मन अपने बैरियों को घात करने और उन्हें दण्ड देने पर लगाओ, क्योंकि उन्होंने तुम पर अन्धेर किया है।

तेजस्तवोग्रं न सहेत राज;न्समेत्य साक्षादपि वज्रपाणिः न हि व्यथां जातु करिष्यतस्तौ; समेत्य देवैरपि धर्मराज

O king! The wielder of the vajra is himself incapable of withstanding your terrible energy. O Dharmarāja! Nor will any pain be caused to you even if you confront all the gods.

हे राजा! वज्रधारी स्वयं आपकी भयानक शक्ति को सहन करने में असमर्थ है। हे धर्मराज! समस्त देवताओं का सामना करने पर भी तुम्हें कोई कष्ट नहीं होगा।

त्वदर्थसिद्ध्यर्थमभिप्रवृत्तौ; सुपर्णकेतुश्च शिनेश्च नप्ता यथैव कृष्णोऽप्रतिमो बलेन; तथैव राजन्स शिनिप्रवीरः

The one with Suparṇa on his banner and Śini's grandson are both engaged in that which ensures your welfare. O god among kings! The foremost among the Śinis, the equal of Kṛṣṇā in strength, is engaged likewise.

जिसकी ध्वजा पर सुपर्णा है और शिनि का पोता दोनों उसी में लगे हुए हैं जिससे आपका कल्याण सुनिश्चित होता है। हे राजाओं में देव! शिनियों में सबसे अग्रणी, ताकत में कृष्ण के बराबर, इसी तरह लगा हुआ है।

तवार्थसिद्ध्यर्थमभिप्रवृत्तौ; यथैव कृष्णः सह यादवैस्तैः तथैव चावां नरदेववर्य; यमौ च वीरौ कृतिनौ प्रयोगे त्वदर्थयोगप्रभवप्रधानाः; समं करिष्याम परान्समेत्य

Kṛṣṇā, together with the Yādava-s, is engaged in that which will ensure your welfare. O god among men! So are these brave and skilled twins. Our prime objective is an increase in your influence. Encountering the enemies, we will pacify them."

कृष्ण, यादवों के साथ मिलकर, उस काम में लगे हुए हैं जिससे आपका कल्याण सुनिश्चित होगा। हे मनुष्यों में ईश्वर! तो क्या ये बहादुर और कुशल जुड़वाँ हैं। हमारा मुख्य उद्देश्य आपके प्रभाव में वृद्धि करना है। हम दुश्मनों का मुकाबला करके उन्हें शांत कर देंगे।”

ततस्तदाज्ञाय मतं महात्मा; तेषां स धर्मस्य सुतो वरिष्ठः प्रदक्षिणं वैश्रवणाधिवासं; चकार धर्मार्थविदुत्तमौजः

On ascertaining what was in their mind, the great-souled son of Dharma circumambulated Vaiśravaṇa's abode. The energetic one was knowledgeable about dharma and artha.

उनके मन में क्या था, यह जानने पर, धर्म के महान पुत्र ने वैश्रवण के निवास की परिक्रमा की। वह ऊर्जावान धर्म और अर्थ का ज्ञाता था।

आमन्त्र्य वेश्मानि नदीः सरांसि; सर्वाणि रक्षांसि च धर्मराजः यथागतं मार्गमवेक्षमाणः; पुनर्गिरिं चैव निरीक्षमाणः

Dharmarāja bid adieu to the houses, the rivers, the lakes and all the rākṣasa-s. He glanced down at the path through which he had ascended and looked again at the mountain and said,

धर्मराज ने घरों, नदियों, झीलों और सभी राक्षसों को अलविदा कह दिया। उसने उस रास्ते पर नज़र डाली जिससे वह ऊपर चढ़ा था और फिर से पहाड़ की ओर देखा और कहा,

समाप्तकर्मा सहितः सुहृद्भि;र्जित्वा सपत्नान्प्रतिलभ्य राज्यम् शैलेन्द्र भूयस्तपसे धृतात्मा; द्रष्टा तवास्मीति मतिं चकार

"O Indra among mountains! When my deeds are done, when my well-wishers and I have triumphed over the enemies and have won the kingdom, I will behold you again, for performing austerities with a restrained soul."

"हे पर्वतों के बीच इंद्र! जब मेरे कर्म पूरे हो जाएंगे, जब मैं और मेरे शुभचिंतक शत्रुओं पर विजय प्राप्त कर लेंगे और राज्य जीत लेंगे, तब मैं संयमित आत्मा के साथ तपस्या करने के लिए तुम्हें फिर से देखूंगा।"

वृतः स सर्वैरनुजैर्द्विजैश्च; तेनैव मार्गेण पतिः कुरूणाम् उवाह चैनान्सगणांस्तथैव; घटोत्कचः पर्वतनिर्झरेषु

Surrounded by all his brothers and the brāhmana-s, the lord of the Kuru-s was again carried along a similar path, with all the others, by Ghaṭotkaca—over mountains and waterfalls.

अपने सभी भाइयों और ब्राह्मणों से घिरे हुए, कुरु-वंश के स्वामी को फिर से अन्य सभी के साथ घटोत्कच द्वारा पहाड़ों और झरनों के माध्यम से उसी रास्ते पर ले जाया गया।

तान्प्रस्थितान्प्रीतिमना महर्षिः; पितेव पुत्राननुशिष्य सर्वान् स लोमशः प्रीतमना जगाम; दिवौकसां पुण्यतमं निवासम्

On seeing them ready to leave, the maharṣi cheerfully instructed them, like a father to his sons. Together with Lomaśa, they happily went to the sacred abode of the dwellers of heaven.

उन्हें जाने के लिए तैयार देखकर महर्षि ने प्रसन्नतापूर्वक उन्हें उसी प्रकार निर्देश दिया, जैसे एक पिता अपने पुत्रों को देता है। लोमश के साथ वे खुशी-खुशी स्वर्गवासियों के पवित्र निवास स्थान पर चले गये।

तेनानुशिष्टार्ष्टिषेणेन चैव; तीर्थानि रम्याणि तपोवनानि महान्ति चान्यानि सरांसि पार्थाः; संपश्यमानाः प्रययुर्नराग्र्याः

Similarly instructed by Ārṣṭiṣeṇa, the Pārtha-s, foremost among men, went and saw the beautiful tīrtha-s, hermitages and many other great ponds.

इसी प्रकार आर्ष्टिषेण की आज्ञा से मनुष्यों में श्रेष्ठ पार्थ ने जाकर सुन्दर तीर्थों, आश्रमों तथा अन्य बड़े-बड़े तालाबों को देखा।
