युधिष्ठिर उवाच धर्मज्ञो बलवाञ्शूरः सद्यो राक्षसपुंगवः भक्तोऽस्मानौरसः पुत्रो भीम गृह्णातु मातरम्

Yudhiṣṭhira said: "O Bhīmā! This bull among rākṣasa-s is learned in dharma. He is always brave and strong. This son born from you is devoted to us. Let him immediately carry his mother.

युधिष्ठिर ने कहा: "हे भीम! राक्षसों के बीच यह बैल धर्म में विद्वान है। वह हमेशा बहादुर और मजबूत है। आपसे पैदा हुआ यह पुत्र हमारे लिए समर्पित है। इसे तुरंत अपनी मां को ले जाने दें।

तव भीम बलेनाहमतिभीमपराक्रम अक्षतः सह पाञ्चाल्या गच्छेयं गन्धमादनम्

O Bhīmā! With the strength of your arms and your terrifying valour, I will remain unhurt and will journey to Gandhamādana with Pāñcālī."

हे भीम! आपकी भुजाओं के बल और आपकी भयानक वीरता से, मैं सुरक्षित रहूँगा और पंचाली के साथ गंधमादन के पास जाऊँगा।"

वैशंपायन उवाच भ्रातुर्वचनमाज्ञाय भीमसेनो घटोत्कचम् आदिदेश नरव्याघ्रस्तनयं शत्रुकर्शनम्

Vaiśampāyana said: On hearing his brother's words, Bhīmasena, tiger among men, commanded his son Ghaṭotkaca, the destroyer of enemies.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: अपने भाई के शब्दों को सुनकर, मनुष्यों में शेर भीमसेन ने अपने पुत्र घटोत्कच को शत्रुओं का नाश करने की आज्ञा दी।

हैडिम्बेय परिश्रान्ता तव मातापराजिता त्वं च कामगमस्तात बलवान्वह तां खग

"O Hiḍimbā's son! Your unvanquished mother is exhausted. O son! You are capable of going anywhere at will. You are strong. Take her up into the sky.

"हे हिडिम्बा के बेटे! तुम्हारी अपराजित मां थक गई है। हे बेटे! तुम इच्छानुसार कहीं भी जाने में सक्षम हो। तुम मजबूत हो। उसे आकाश में ले जाओ।"

स्कन्धमारोप्य भद्रं ते मध्येऽस्माकं विहायसा गच्छ नीचिकया गत्या यथा चैनां न पीडयेः

O fortunate one! Carry her on your shoulders. Follow us in the sky. But travel low, so that she does not feel oppressed."

हे भाग्यवान! उसे अपने कंधों पर उठाओ. आकाश में हमारा अनुसरण करें. लेकिन कम दूरी पर यात्रा करें, ताकि उसे उत्पीड़ित महसूस न हो।"

घटोत्कच उवाच धर्मराजं च धौम्यं च राजपुत्रीं यमौ तथा एकोऽप्यहमलं वोढुं किमुताद्य सहायवान्

Ghaṭotkaca replied: "I am alone capable of carrying Dharmarāja, Dhaumya, the princess and the twins. It shouldn't be surprising that I can do it now, when I have help."

घटोत्कच ने उत्तर दिया: "मैं अकेले ही धर्मराज, धौम्य, राजकुमारी और जुड़वाँ बच्चों को ले जाने में सक्षम हूँ। यह आश्चर्य की बात नहीं होनी चाहिए कि मैं इसे अभी कर सकता हूँ, जब मेरे पास मदद होगी।"

वैशंपायन उवाच एवमुक्त्वा ततः कृष्णामुवाह स घटोत्कचः पाण्डूनां मध्यगो वीरः पाण्डवानपि चापरे

Vaiśampāyana said: Having said this, Ghaṭotkaca carried Kṛṣṇā in the midst of the brave Pāṇḍava-s. Others carried the Pāṇḍava-s.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: यह कहकर घटोत्कच कृष्ण को बहादुर पांडवों के बीच में ले गया। अन्य लोग पांडवों को ले गए।

लोमशः सिद्धमार्गेण जगामानुपमद्युतिः स्वेनैवात्मप्रभावेन द्वितीय इव भास्करः

Lomaśa, whose splendour was unrivalled, travelled along the path followed by the siddha-s through his own powers, like a second sun.

लोमश, जिसका वैभव अद्वितीय था, दूसरे सूर्य की तरह अपनी शक्तियों के माध्यम से सिद्धों द्वारा अनुसरण किए गए मार्ग पर यात्रा करता था।

ब्राह्मणांश्चापि तान्सर्वान्समुपादाय राक्षसाः नियोगाद्राक्षसेन्द्रस्य जग्मुर्भीमपराक्रमाः

Commanded by the Indra among the rākṣasa-s, other immensely powerful rākṣasa-s took up all the brāhmana-s and travelled.

राक्षसों के बीच इंद्र की आज्ञा से अन्य अत्यंत शक्तिशाली राक्षसों ने सभी ब्राह्मणों को अपने साथ ले लिया और यात्रा की।

एवं सुरमणीयानि वनान्युपवनानि च आलोकयन्तस्ते जग्मुर्विशालां बदरीं प्रति

They glanced at the extremely beautiful forests and groves and travelled towards the extensive Badarī.

उन्होंने अत्यंत सुन्दर वनों और उपवनों पर दृष्टि डाली और विशाल बदरी की ओर प्रस्थान किया।

ते त्वाशुगतिभिर्वीरा राक्षसैस्तैर्महाबलैः उह्यमाना ययुः शीघ्रं महदध्वानमल्पवत्

Carried by those swift rākṣasa-s whose strength was immense, the brave ones quickly covered a long distance in a short span of time.

उन तीव्रगामी राक्षसों द्वारा, जिनकी शक्ति अपार थी, वीरों ने बहुत कम समय में बड़ी दूरी शीघ्रता से तय कर ली।

देशान्म्लेच्छगणाकीर्णान्नानारत्नाकरायुतान् ददृशुर्गिरिपादांश्च नानाधातुसमाचितान्

They saw many regions infested by mleccha-s, full of many stores of jewels. They saw mountains and foothills, the stores of many minerals.

उन्होंने म्लेच्छों से आक्रांत अनेक प्रदेश देखे, जो रत्नों के अनेक भंडारों से भरे हुए थे। उन्होंने पहाड़ और तलहटी, अनेक खनिजों के भण्डार देखे।

विद्याधरगणाकीर्णान्युतान्वानरकिंनरैः तथा किंपुरुषैश्चैव गन्धर्वैश्च समन्ततः

They were populated by vidyādhara-s and had large numbers of monkeys and kinnara-s, in addition to kimpuruṣa-s and gāndharva-s.

वे विद्याधरों से आबाद थे और किंपुरुषों और गंधर्वों के अलावा, बड़ी संख्या में बंदर और किन्नर भी थे।

नदीजालसमाकीर्णान्नानापक्षिरुताकुलान् नानाविधैर्मृगैर्जुष्टान्वानरैश्चोपशोभितान्

There were networks of rivers, frequented by many different kinds of birds. They were visited by many different kinds of animals. They were adorned by monkeys.

वहाँ नदियों का जाल था, जहाँ अनेक प्रकार के पक्षी आते थे। विभिन्न प्रकार के जानवर उनसे मिलने आते थे। वे बंदरों से सुशोभित थे।

ते व्यतीत्य बहून्देशानुत्तरांश्च कुरूनपि ददृशुर्विविधाश्चर्यं कैलासं पर्वतोत्तमम्

Having passed over many regions and over northern Kuru, they saw the supreme and extraordinary Mount Kailāsa.

कई क्षेत्रों और उत्तरी कुरु को पार करते हुए, उन्होंने सर्वोच्च और असाधारण कैलाश पर्वत देखा।

तस्याभ्याशे तु ददृशुर्नरनारायणाश्रमम् उपेतं पादपैर्दिव्यैः सदापुष्पफलोपगैः

Near it, they saw the hermitage of Nara and Nārāyaṇa. It was full of celestial trees that always bore flowers and fruit.

इसके निकट ही उन्हें नर-नारायण का आश्रम दिखाई दिया। वह दिव्य वृक्षों से भरा हुआ था जिन पर सदैव फूल और फल लगते थे।

ददृशुस्तां च बदरीं वृत्तस्कन्धां मनोरमाम् स्निग्धामविरलच्छायां श्रिया परमया युताम्

They saw the beautiful Badarī, with a circular trunk. It was always tender and offered unfettered shade. It was supremely beautiful.

उन्होंने गोलाकार सूंड वाली सुंदर बदरी देखी। यह हमेशा कोमल रहता था और निर्बाध छाया प्रदान करता था। यह अत्यंत सुंदर था.

पत्रैः स्निग्धैरविरलैरुपेतां मृदुभिः शुभाम् विशालशाखां विस्तीर्णामतिद्युतिसमन्विताम्

It had tender leaves and was smooth and radiant. Its branches were large. They were expansive and were limitless in lustre.

उसकी कोमल पत्तियाँ थीं और वह चिकना और दीप्तिमान था। इसकी शाखाएँ बड़ी थीं। वे विशाल थे और चमक में असीमित थे।

फलैरुपचितैर्दिव्यैराचितां स्वादुभिर्भृशम् मधुस्रवैः सदा दिव्यां महर्षिगणसेविताम् मदप्रमुदितैर्नित्यं नानाद्विजगणैर्युताम्

It was full of fruit that was tasty and divine. They dripped honey and were always celestial, beloved of the masses of maharṣi-s. It was always populated by masses of different kinds of birds that frolicked madly. It grew in a region where there were no mosquitoes or gnats.

वह फलों से भरपूर था जो स्वादिष्ट और दिव्य था। वे शहद टपकाते थे और सदैव दिव्य, महर्षियों के प्रिय थे। यह हमेशा विभिन्न प्रकार के पक्षियों से भरा रहता था जो पागलों की तरह अठखेलियाँ करते थे। यह ऐसे क्षेत्र में उगता था जहाँ कोई मच्छर या मच्छर नहीं थे।

अदंशमशके देशे बहुमूलफलोदके नीलशाद्वलसंछन्ने देवगन्धर्वसेविते

There were many roots and fruits and a lot of water there. It was covered with blue gras-s and frequented by the gods and the gāndharva-s.

वहाँ बहुत सारी जड़ें और फल थे और बहुत सारा पानी था। यह नीली घास से ढका हुआ था और देवता तथा गंधर्व यहाँ अक्सर आते थे।

सुसमीकृतभूभागे स्वभावविहिते शुभे जातां हिममृदुस्पर्शे देशेऽपहतकण्टके

It stood on a flat stretch of ground that was naturally beautiful. It was gentle from the touch of snow and was a beautiful region bereft of thorns.

यह जमीन के एक समतल हिस्से पर खड़ा था जो प्राकृतिक रूप से सुंदर था। वह बर्फ के स्पर्श से कोमल और काँटों से रहित सुन्दर प्रदेश था।

तामुपेत्य महात्मानः सह तैर्ब्राह्मणर्षभैः अवतेरुस्ततः सर्वे राक्षसस्कन्धतः शनैः

Having reached the spot with the bulls among the brāhmana-s, all the great-souled ones descended slowly from the shoulders of the rākṣasa-s.

ब्राह्मणों के बीच बैलों के साथ पहुँचकर, सभी महात्मा राक्षसों के कंधों से धीरे-धीरे नीचे उतरे।

ततस्तमाश्रमं पुण्यं नरनारायणाश्रितम् ददृशुः पाण्डवा राजन्सहिता द्विजपुंगवैः

O king! Together with the bulls among the brāhmana-s, the Pāṇḍava-s saw the beautiful hermitage, the refuge of Nara and Nārāyaṇa.

हे राजा! ब्राह्मणों के बीच बैलों के साथ, पांडवों ने नर और नारायण की शरणस्थली, सुंदर आश्रम देखा।

तमसा रहितं पुण्यमनामृष्टं रवेः करैः क्षुत्तृट्शीतोष्णदोषैश्च वर्जितं शोकनाशनम्

The sacred place was devoid of darkness, though it was untouched by the sun's rays. It was free from afflictions like hunger, thirst, coldness and heat. It was the destroyer of all sorrow.

पवित्र स्थान अंधेरे से रहित था, हालांकि यह सूर्य की किरणों से अछूता था। वह भूख, प्यास, ठंडक और गर्मी जैसे कष्टों से मुक्त था। यह समस्त दुःखों का नाश करने वाला था।

महर्षिगणसंबाधं ब्राह्म्या लक्ष्म्या समन्वितम् दुष्प्रवेशं महाराज नरैर्धर्मबहिष्कृतैः

It was crowded by masses of maharṣi-s and complete with the attainment of the brāhman. O great king! It was difficult of access to men who were outside the pale of dharma.

यह महर्षियों की भीड़ से भरा हुआ था और ब्रह्म की प्राप्ति से परिपूर्ण था। हे महान राजा! उन लोगों तक पहुँचना कठिन था जो धर्म के दायरे से बाहर थे।

बलिहोमार्चितं दिव्यं सुसंमृष्टानुलेपनम् दिव्यपुष्पोपहारैश्च सर्वतोऽभिविराजितम्

It was celestial with the homage of offerings and oblations. It was maintained well and fragrant. There were offerings of celestial flowers and it was radiant everywhere.

प्रसाद और आहुतियों की श्रद्धांजलि से यह दिव्य था। इसे अच्छी तरह से बनाए रखा गया था और सुगंधित किया गया था. वहाँ दिव्य पुष्पों का प्रसाद चढ़ाया जा रहा था और सर्वत्र दीप्तिमान प्रकाश था।

विशालैरग्निशरणैः स्रुग्भाण्डैराचितं शुभैः महद्भिस्तोयकलशैः कठिनैश्चोपशोभितम् शरण्यं सर्वभूतानां ब्रह्मघोषनिनादितम्

There were large stores for fire. It had lovely ladles. It was adorned with large and firm pots full of water. It was a place of refuge for all beings and resounded with the sound of the brāhman.

आग के लिए बड़े-बड़े भण्डार थे। इसमें सुंदर करछुलें थीं। यह पानी से भरे बड़े और दृढ़ बर्तनों से सुशोभित था। यह सभी प्राणियों के लिए आश्रय का स्थान था और ब्राह्मण ध्वनि से गूंजता था।

दिव्यमाश्रयणीयं तमाश्रमं श्रमनाशनम् श्रिया युतमनिर्देश्यं देवचर्योपशोभितम्

That hermitage destroyed all exhaustion and was a celestial hermitage. It was full of beauty and produced immeasurable merit. It was frequented by those who worshipped the gods.

वह आश्रम सारी थकावट को नष्ट करने वाला और दिव्य आश्रम था। यह सौन्दर्य से भरपूर था और अथाह योग्यता उत्पन्न करता था। यह अक्सर उन लोगों द्वारा किया जाता था जो देवताओं की पूजा करते थे।

फलमूलाशनैर्दान्तैश्चीरकृष्णाजिनाम्बरैः सूर्यवैश्वानरसमैस्तपसा भावितात्मभिः

They lived on roots and fruit. They were in control of their senses and were attired in bark and black antelope skins. They were like the sun and the fire in their austerities and were controlled in their souls.

वे जड़ों और फलों पर रहते थे। वे अपनी इंद्रियों पर नियंत्रण रखते थे और छाल और काले मृग की खाल पहनते थे। वे अपनी तपस्या में सूर्य और अग्नि के समान थे और अपनी आत्मा में वश में थे।

महर्षिभिर्मोक्षपरैर्यतिभिर्नियतेन्द्रियैः ब्रह्मभूतैर्महाभागैरुपेतं ब्रह्मवादिभिः

Those maharṣi-s had restrained their senses and were in search of salvation. Those immensely fortunate ones were learned in the brāhman and were immersed in the brāhman.

उन महर्षियों ने अपनी इंद्रियों पर काबू पा लिया था और मोक्ष की तलाश में थे। वे अत्यंत भाग्यशाली लोग ब्रह्मज्ञानी थे और ब्रह्म में लीन थे।

सोऽभ्यगच्छन्महातेजास्तानृषीन्नियतः शुचिः भ्रातृभिः सहितो धीमान्धर्मपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः

The intelligent Yudhiṣṭhira, Dharma's son, approached those immensely energetic riṣi-s with his brothers, with restraint and purity.

धर्म के पुत्र, बुद्धिमान युधिष्ठिर, अपने भाइयों के साथ संयम और पवित्रता के साथ उन बेहद ऊर्जावान ऋषियों के पास पहुंचे।

दिव्यज्ञानोपपन्नास्ते दृष्ट्वा प्राप्तं युधिष्ठिरम् अभ्यगच्छन्त सुप्रीताः सर्व एव महर्षयः आशीर्वादान्प्रयुञ्जानाः स्वाध्यायनिरता भृशम्

All the maharṣi-s had divine sight. When they saw Yudhiṣṭhira, they welcomed him with great delight. Those who were always devoted to studies, pronounced their blessings over him.

सभी महर्षियों को दिव्य दृष्टि प्राप्त थी। जब उन्होंने युधिष्ठिर को देखा तो बड़ी प्रसन्नता से उनका स्वागत किया। जो लोग सदैव अध्ययन के प्रति समर्पित रहते थे, उन्होंने उन पर अपना आशीर्वाद व्यक्त किया।

प्रीतास्ते तस्य सत्कारं विधिना पावकोपमाः उपाजह्रुश्च सलिलं पुष्पमूलफलं शुचि

They were the equal of the fire and they happily welcomed him in accordance with the prescribed rites. They offered him pure water, flowers, roots and fruit.

वे अग्नि के समान थे और उन्होंने खुशी-खुशी निर्धारित संस्कारों के अनुसार उनका स्वागत किया। उन्होंने उन्हें शुद्ध जल, फूल, जड़ और फल अर्पित किये।

स तैः प्रीत्याथ सत्कारमुपनीतं महर्षिभिः प्रयतः प्रतिगृह्याथ धर्मपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः

Yudhiṣṭhira, Dharma's son, was restrained and happily accepted the offerings of the maharṣi-s.

धर्म के पुत्र युधिष्ठिर संयमित थे और उन्होंने खुशी-खुशी महर्षियों का प्रसाद स्वीकार कर लिया।

तं शक्रसदनप्रख्यं दिव्यगन्धं मनोरमम् प्रीतः स्वर्गोपमं पुण्यं पाण्डवः सह कृष्णया

That beautiful place was divinely scented and was like Śākra's abode. O unblemished one! Together with Kṛṣṇā and his brothers,

वह सुंदर स्थान दिव्य सुगंधित था और शक्र के निवास के समान था। हे निष्कलंक! कृष्ण और उनके भाइयों के साथ,

विवेश शोभया युक्तं भ्रातृभिश्च सहानघ ब्राह्मणैर्वेदवेदाङ्गपारगैश्च सहाच्युतः

and the brāhmana-s who were learned in the Veda-s and the Vedāṅga-s, the Pāṇḍava happily entered the pure place that was like heaven itself.

और ब्राह्मण-जो वेदों और वेदांगों में विद्वान थे, पांडव ने ख़ुशी से उस शुद्ध स्थान में प्रवेश किया जो स्वर्ग के समान था।

तत्रापश्यत्स धर्मात्मा देवदेवर्षिपूजितम् नरनारायणस्थानं भागीरथ्योपशोभितम्

The one with dharma in his soul saw Nara and Nārāyaṇa's spot, worshipped by the gods and the devarṣi-s. It was rendered beautiful by the Bhāgīrathī.

जिसकी आत्मा में धर्म था उसने नर और नारायण के स्थान को देखा, जिनकी पूजा देवताओं और देवर्षियों ने की थी। इसे भागीरथी ने सुन्दर बनाया।

मधुस्रवफलां दिव्यां महर्षिगणसेविताम् तामुपेत्य महात्मानस्तेऽवसन्ब्राह्मणैः सह

The divine fruit dripped with honey and it was frequented by masses of brahmarṣi-s. The great-souled ones approached and dwelt there with the brāhmana-s.

दिव्य फल से शहद टपकता था और बड़ी संख्या में ब्रह्मर्षि इसे देखने आते थे। महात्मा लोग वहाँ पहुँचे और ब्राह्मणों के साथ रहने लगे।

आलोकयन्तो मैनाकं नानाद्विजगणायुतम् हिरण्यशिखरं चैव तच्च बिन्दुसरः शिवम्

They saw Mount Maināka with its golden peak, frequented by masses of brāhmana-s, the auspicious Bindusāra

उन्होंने मैनाका पर्वत को उसके सुनहरे शिखर के साथ देखा, जहां अक्सर ब्राह्मणों की भीड़ आती थी, शुभ बिन्दुसार

भागीरथीं सुतीर्थां च शीतामलजलां शिवाम् मणिप्रवालप्रस्तारां पादपैरुपशोभिताम्

and the sacred and great tīrtha of Bhāgīrathī, with its cool and clear water, with gems, corals and stones and adorned with beautiful trees.

और भागीरथी का पवित्र और महान तीर्थ, अपने शीतल और स्वच्छ जल, रत्नों, मूंगों और पत्थरों से युक्त तथा सुंदर वृक्षों से सुशोभित।

दिव्यपुष्पसमाकीर्णां मनसः प्रीतिवर्धनीम् वीक्षमाणा महात्मानो विजह्रुस्तत्र पाण्डवाः

There were divine blossoms that heightened the pleasure of the mind. The great-souled Pāṇḍava-s saw and roamed around there.

वहां दिव्य पुष्प खिले हुए थे, जिससे मन का आनंद बढ़ गया। महाबली पाण्डवों ने देखा और वहीं विचरण किया।

तत्र देवान्पितॄंश्चैव तर्पयन्तः पुनः पुनः ब्राह्मणैः सहिता वीरा न्यवसन्पुरुषर्षभाः

They repeatedly made offerings to the gods and the ancestors. The brave bulls among men dwelt there with the brāhmana-s.

उन्होंने बार-बार देवताओं और पितरों को तर्पण किया। मनुष्यों में वीर बैल ब्राह्मणों के साथ वहाँ रहते थे।

कृष्णायास्तत्र पश्यन्तः क्रीडितान्यमरप्रभाः विचित्राणि नरव्याघ्रा रेमिरे तत्र पाण्डवाः

The Pāṇḍava-s, tigers among men, who were the equals of the immortals, took great pleasure in watching Kṛṣṇā sport there in various ways.

पांडव-पुरुषों के बीच शेर, जो अमरों के बराबर थे, उन्होंने विभिन्न तरीकों से कृष्ण के खेल को देखने में बहुत आनंद लिया।
