वैशंपायन उवाच एवं संभाषमाणे तु धौम्ये कौरवनन्दन लोमशः सुमहातेजा ऋषिस्तत्राजगाम ह

Vaiśampāyana said: O descendant of the Kaurava lineage! While Dhaumya was speaking thus, the great and immensely energetic riṣi Lomaśa arrived.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: हे कौरव वंश के वंशज! जब धौम्य इस प्रकार बोल रहे थे, तभी महान और अत्यधिक ऊर्जावान ऋषि लोमश आये।

तं पाण्डवाग्रजो राजा सगणो ब्राह्मणाश्च ते उदतिष्ठन्महाभागं दिवि शक्रमिवामराः

The king, who was the eldest of the Pāṇḍava-s, his retinue and the brāhmana-s arose for the immensely fortunate one, just as the immortals arise in heaven for Śākra.

राजा, जो पांडवों में सबसे बड़ा था, उसके अनुचर और ब्राह्मण अत्यंत भाग्यशाली व्यक्ति के लिए उठे, जैसे कि अमर लोग शक्र के लिए स्वर्ग में उठते हैं।

तमभ्यर्च्य यथान्यायं धर्मराजो युधिष्ठिरः पप्रच्छागमने हेतुमटने च प्रयोजनम्

Having worshipped him in accordance with what is prescribed, Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira asked him the reason for his arrival and the reason for his travels.

विधिपूर्वक उनकी पूजा करके धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर ने उनसे उनके आगमन का कारण और उनकी यात्रा का कारण पूछा।

स पृष्टः पाण्डुपुत्रेण प्रीयमाणो महामनाः उवाच श्लक्ष्णया वाचा हर्षयन्निव पाण्डवान्

Thus asked by Pāṇḍu's son, the great-souled one was pleased and replied in soft words, delighting the Pāṇḍava.

पाण्डु पुत्र के इस प्रकार पूछने पर वह महाबली प्रसन्न हो गया और उसने पाण्डव को प्रसन्न करते हुए कोमल शब्दों में उत्तर दिया।

संचरन्नस्मि कौन्तेय सर्वलोकान्यदृच्छया गतः शक्रस्य सदनं तत्रापश्यं सुरेश्वरम्

"O Kaunteya! While I was travelling all the worlds according to my wishes, I went to Śākra's residence and saw the lord of the gods there.

"हे कौन्तेय! जब मैं अपनी इच्छा के अनुसार सभी लोकों की यात्रा कर रहा था, मैं शक्र के निवास पर गया और वहां देवताओं के भगवान को देखा।

तव च भ्रातरं वीरमपश्यं सव्यसाचिनम् शक्रस्यार्धासनगतं तत्र मे विस्मयो महान् आसीत्पुरुषशार्दूल दृष्ट्वा पार्थं तथागतम्

I also saw your brave brother Savyasachi and was extremely astonished to see him share half of Śākra's throne. O tiger among men! On my seeing Pārtha seated in that fashion,

मैंने आपके बहादुर भाई सव्यसाची को भी देखा और उसे शक्र के सिंहासन का आधा हिस्सा साझा करते हुए देखकर बहुत आश्चर्यचकित हुआ। हे मनुष्यों में बाघ! पार्थ को उस प्रकार बैठा देखकर,

आह मां तत्र देवेशो गच्छ पाण्डुसुतानिति सोऽहमभ्यागतः क्षिप्रं दिदृक्षुस्त्वां सहानुजम्

the king of the gods told me there, "Go to Pāṇḍu's sons." Thus addressed, I have swiftly come to see you, with your younger brothers.

वहां देवताओं के राजा ने मुझसे कहा, "पांडु के पुत्रों के पास जाओ।" इस प्रकार कहकर मैं आपके छोटे भाइयों सहित शीघ्र ही आपसे मिलने आया हूँ।

वचनात्पुरुहूतस्य पार्थस्य च महात्मनः आख्यास्ये ते प्रियं तात महत्पाण्डवनन्दन

I have come because of the words of Puruhūta and the great-souled Pārtha. O son! O descendant of the Pāṇḍava lineage! I will tell you that which will bring you great delight.

मैं पुरुहुत और महात्मा पार्थ के वचनों के कारण आया हूँ। हे वत्स हे पांडव वंश के वंशज! मैं तुम्हें वह बताऊंगा जिससे तुम्हें अत्यंत प्रसन्नता होगी।

भ्रातृभिः सहितो राजन्कृष्णया चैव तच्छृणु यत्त्वयोक्तो महाबाहुरस्त्रार्थं पाण्डवर्षभ

O king! Listen to my words, with your brothers and with Kṛṣṇā. O bull among the Pāṇḍava lineage! On your words, the mighty-armed one went out for weapons.

हे राजा! अपने भाइयों और कृष्ण के साथ मेरी बातें सुनो। हे पांडव वंश के बैल! आपके कहने पर वह महाबाहु शस्त्र लेने के लिये निकल पड़ा।

तदस्त्रमाप्तं पार्थेन रुद्रादप्रतिमं महत् यत्तद्ब्रह्मशिरो नाम तपसा रुद्रमागतम्

Pārtha has obtained from Rudra a great and unrivalled weapon. It is known as Brahmashira and Rudra obtained it after great austerities.

पार्थ ने रुद्र से एक महान एवं अप्रतिम अस्त्र प्राप्त किया है। इसे ब्रह्मशिरा के नाम से जाना जाता है और रुद्र ने इसे बड़ी तपस्या के बाद प्राप्त किया था।

अमृतादुत्थितं रौद्रं तल्लब्धं सव्यसाचिना तत्समन्त्रं ससंहारं सप्रायश्चित्तमङ्गलम्

That terrible weapon arose with the ambrosia and Savyasachi has now obtained it, together with the mantra-s for withdrawing, repulsing and releasing it.

वह भयानक अस्त्र अमृत के साथ उत्पन्न हुआ था और अब सव्यसाची ने उसे प्राप्त कर लिया है, साथ ही उसे वापस लेने, प्रतिकार करने और छोड़ने के मंत्र भी प्राप्त कर लिये हैं।

वज्रं चान्यानि चास्त्राणि दण्डादीनि युधिष्ठिर यमात्कुबेराद्वरुणादिन्द्राच्च कुरुनन्दन अस्त्राण्यधीतवान्पार्थो दिव्यान्यमितविक्रमः

O Yudhiṣṭhira! O descendant of the Kuru lineage! The infinitely powerful Pārtha has obtained other divine weapons too—like vajra and daṇḍa—from Yāma, Kubera, Vāruṇa and Indra.

हे युधिष्ठिर! हे कुरु वंश के वंशज! असीम शक्तिशाली पार्थ ने यम, कुबेर, वरुण और इंद्र से वज्र और दंड जैसे अन्य दिव्य हथियार भी प्राप्त किए हैं।

विश्वावसोश्च तनयाद्गीतं नृत्तं च साम च वादित्रं च यथान्यायं प्रत्यविन्दद्यथाविधि

He has learnt from Viśvāvasu's son singing, dancing, the chanting of samā-s and the playing of musical instruments, as is prescribed, according to the rules and according to the norms for learning.

उन्होंने विश्वावसु के पुत्र से गायन, नृत्य, साम-जप और संगीत वाद्ययंत्र बजाना, जैसा कि निर्धारित है, नियमों के अनुसार और सीखने के मानदंडों के अनुसार सीखा है।

एवं कृतास्त्रः कौन्तेयो गान्धर्वं वेदमाप्तवान् सुखं वसति बीभत्सुरनुजस्यानुजस्तव

Thus Kaunteya has become skilled in weapons and has learnt gāndharva veda. Bībhatsu, younger to your younger brother, lives happily there.

इस प्रकार कौन्तेय शस्त्र विद्या में कुशल हो गया और उसने गंधर्व वेद सीख लिया। आपके छोटे भाई से छोटा बिभात्सु वहां सुखपूर्वक रहता है।

यदर्थं मां सुरश्रेष्ठ इदं वचनमब्रवीत् तच्च ते कथयिष्यामि युधिष्ठिर निबोध मे

O Yudhiṣṭhira! I will now tell you the import of what the best of the gods told me for your sake. Listen to me.

हे युधिष्ठिर! अब मैं तुम्हें उस बात का आशय बताऊंगा जो श्रेष्ठ देवताओं ने तुम्हारे लिये मुझसे कहा था। मेरी बात सुनो।

भवान्मनुष्यलोकाय गमिष्यति न संशयः ब्रूयाद्युधिष्ठिरं तत्र वचनान्मे द्विजोत्तम

"There is no doubt that you will go the world of men." O supreme among brāhmana-s, repeat these words of mine to Yudhiṣṭhira.

"इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि आप मनुष्यों की दुनिया में जाएंगे।" हे ब्राह्मणों में श्रेष्ठ, मेरे ये वचन युधिष्ठिर से दोहराओ।

आगमिष्यति ते भ्राता कृतास्त्रः क्षिप्रमर्जुनः सुरकार्यं महत्कृत्वा यदाशक्यं दिवौकसैः

"Your younger brother Arjuna will swiftly return, after obtaining weapons, but after accomplishing a great task for the gods, which the gods themselves are incapable of.

"तुम्हारा छोटा भाई अर्जुन हथियार प्राप्त करके शीघ्रता से लौट आएगा, लेकिन देवताओं के लिए एक महान कार्य पूरा करने के बाद, जिसे करने में देवता स्वयं असमर्थ हैं।

तपसा तु त्वमात्मानं भ्रातृभिः सह योजय तपसो हि परं नास्ति तपसा विन्दते महत्

Together with your brothers, devote yourself to austerities. Austerities are supreme and there is nothing greater than austerities.

तुम अपने भाइयों सहित तपस्या में लग जाओ। तपस्या सर्वोच्च है और तपस्या से बढ़कर कुछ भी नहीं है।

अहं च कर्णं जानामि यथावद्भरतर्षभ न स पार्थस्य संग्रामे कलामर्हति षोडशीम्

O bull among the Bhārata lineage! I know Karṇa exactly. In battle, he is not worth a sixteenth part of Pārtha.

हे भरत वंश में बैल! मैं कर्ण को ठीक-ठीक जानता हूँ। युद्ध में वह पार्थ के सोलहवें भाग के बराबर भी नहीं है।

यच्चापि ते भयं तस्मान्मनसिस्थमरिंदम तच्चाप्यपहरिष्यामि सव्यसाचाविहागते

O destroyer of enemies! I will dispel the fear that exists in your mind about him when Savyasachi has returned.

हे शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले! सव्यसाची के लौट आने पर तुम्हारे मन में उनके विषय में जो भय है, उसे मैं दूर कर दूँगा।

यच्च ते मानसं वीर तीर्थयात्रामिमां प्रति तच्च ते लोमशः सर्वं कथयिष्यत्यसंशयम्

O brave one! You have a desire in your mind towards visiting the tīrtha-s. There is no doubt that Lomaśa will tell you everything about this.

हे वीर! आपके मन में तीर्थों के दर्शन की इच्छा है। इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि लोमशा आपको इस बारे में सब कुछ बताएगा।

यच्च किंचित्तपोयुक्तं फलं तीर्थेषु भारत महर्षिरेष यद्ब्रूयात्तच्छ्रद्धेयमनन्यथा

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Whatever the maharṣi tells you about the fruits of austerities and tīrtha-s should be accepted by you as the bringer of welfare. It should not be otherwise.""

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! महर्षि तुम्हें तपस्या और तीर्थों के फल के बारे में जो कुछ भी बताते हैं, उसे तुम्हें कल्याण लाने वाले के रूप में स्वीकार करना चाहिए। अन्यथा नहीं होना चाहिए।''
