मार्कण्डेय उवाच ग्रहाः सोपग्रहाश्चैव ऋषयो मातरस्तथा हुताशनमुखाश्चापि दीप्ताः पारिषदां गणाः

Mārkaṇḍeya said: "The planets, the minor planets, the riṣi-s and the mothers, all radiant and led by Agni, with masses of attendants

मार्कंडेय ने कहा: "ग्रह, लघु ग्रह, ऋषि और माताएं, सभी तेजस्वी और अग्नि के नेतृत्व में, परिचारकों के समूह के साथ

एते चान्ये च बहवो घोरास्त्रिदिववासिनः परिवार्य महासेनं स्थिता मातृगणैः सह

and many other terrible residents of heaven, established themselves around Mahāsena, together with the groups of mothers.

और स्वर्ग के कई अन्य भयानक निवासियों ने, माताओं के समूहों के साथ, महासेना के आसपास खुद को स्थापित किया।

संदिग्धं विजयं दृष्ट्वा विजयेप्सुः सुरेश्वरः आरुह्यैरावतस्कन्धं प्रययौ दैवतैः सह विजिघांसुर्महासेनमिन्द्रस्तूर्णतरं ययौ

The lord of the gods wished for victory, but was unsure about victory. He ascended Airāvata's shoulders and departed, together with the gods. Desiring victory over Mahāsena, Indra travelled swiftly.

देवताओं के स्वामी जीत की कामना करते थे, लेकिन जीत के बारे में अनिश्चित थे। वह ऐरावत के कंधों पर चढ़ गया और देवताओं सहित चला गया। महासेन पर विजय की इच्छा से इंद्र ने तेजी से यात्रा की।

उग्रं तच्च महावेगं देवानीकं महाप्रभम् विचित्रध्वजसंनाहं नानावाहनकार्मुकम् प्रवराम्बरसंवीतं श्रिया जुष्टमलंकृतम्

The army of the gods was immensely radiant. It was terrible and extremely fast. It was adorned with colourful flags and decorations and had many vehicles and bows. It was dressed in beautiful garments and was adorned and served by prosperity.

देवताओं की सेना अत्यंत तेजस्वी थी। यह भयानक और बेहद तेज़ था. वह रंग-बिरंगे झंडों और सजावटों से सुशोभित था और उसमें अनेक वाहन और धनुष थे। उसे सुन्दर वस्त्र पहनाये गये थे और समृद्धि से उसे सजाया और परोसा गया था।

विजिघांसुं तदायान्तं कुमारः शक्रमभ्ययात् विनदन्पथि शक्रस्तु द्रुतं याति महाबलः संहर्षयन्देवसेनां जिघांसुः पावकात्मजम्

When Kumāra saw Śākra advance, with the desire of killing him, he advanced. The immensely strong Śākra roared and advanced swiftly. This delighted the army of the gods, who wished to kill Agni's son.

जब कुमार ने शक्र को आगे बढ़ते देखा तो उसे मारने की इच्छा से वह आगे बढ़े। अत्यंत शक्तिशाली शक्र दहाड़ता हुआ तेजी से आगे बढ़ा। इससे देवताओं की सेना प्रसन्न हुई, जो अग्नि के पुत्र को मारना चाहती थी।

संपूज्यमानस्त्रिदशैस्तथैव परमर्षिभिः समीपमुपसंप्राप्तः कार्त्तिकेयस्य वासवः

Worshipped by the thirty gods and the supreme riṣi-s, Vāsava approached near Kartikeya.

तीस देवताओं और परम ऋषियों द्वारा पूजित, वासव कार्तिकेय के पास पहुंचे।

सिंहनादं ततश्चक्रे देवेशः सहितः सुरैः गुहोऽपि शब्दं तं श्रुत्वा व्यनदत्सागरो यथा

Together with the gods, the lord of the gods roared like a lion. On hearing this sound, Guha roared like the ocean.

देवताओं के स्वामी ने देवताओं के साथ मिलकर सिंह के समान गर्जना की। यह ध्वनि सुनकर गुहा समुद्र के समान गर्जना करने लगा।

तस्य शब्देन महता समुद्धूतोदधिप्रभम् बभ्राम तत्र तत्रैव देवसैन्यमचेतनम्

On hearing this great sound, the splendid army of the gods lost its senses. It was agitated, like the ocean by a storm.

इस महान ध्वनि को सुनकर देवताओं की वैभवशाली सेना सुध-बुध खो बैठी। वह तूफान से समुद्र की भाँति उत्तेजित हो उठा।

जिघांसूनुपसंप्राप्तान्देवान्दृष्ट्वा स पावकिः विससर्ज मुखात्क्रुद्धः प्रवृद्धाः पावकार्चिषः ता देवसैन्यान्यदहन्वेष्टमानानि भूतले

Having seen that the gods had approached with the desire of killing him, Agni's son was angered. He belched forth large flames of fire from his mouth. They burnt the army of the gods and made them writhe on the ground.

यह देखकर कि देवता उसे मारने की इच्छा से आये थे, अग्नि का पुत्र क्रोधित हो गया। उसने अपने मुँह से आग की बड़ी-बड़ी लपटें निकालीं। उन्होंने देवताओं की सेना को जला डाला और उन्हें भूमि पर गिरा दिया।

ते प्रदीप्तशिरोदेहाः प्रदीप्तायुधवाहनाः प्रच्युताः सहसा भान्ति चित्रास्तारागणा इव

The heads and the bodies were in flames and the arms and the mounts were ablaze. They looked like radiant clusters of stars that had suddenly been dislodged.

सिर और शरीर आग की लपटों में थे और भुजाएँ और पर्वत जल रहे थे। वे तारों के उज्ज्वल समूहों की तरह लग रहे थे जो अचानक उखड़ गए थे।

दह्यमानाः प्रपन्नास्ते शरणं पावकात्मजम् देवा वज्रधरं त्यक्त्वा ततः शान्तिमुपागताः

Having been burnt, the gods abandoned the wielder of the vajra and sought refuge with Agni's son, thus obtaining peace.

जलने के बाद, देवताओं ने वज्र के धारक को त्याग दिया और अग्नि के पुत्र की शरण ली, इस प्रकार शांति प्राप्त की।

त्यक्तो देवैस्ततः स्कन्दे वज्रं शक्रोऽभ्यवासृजत् तद्विसृष्टं जघानाशु पार्श्वं स्कन्दस्य दक्षिणम् बिभेद च महाराज पार्श्वं तस्य महात्मनः

Having been deserted by the gods, Śākra hurled his vajra at Skānda. O great king! This split open Skānda's right side. When the side of the great-souled one was split,

देवताओं द्वारा त्याग दिये जाने पर शक्र ने स्कन्द पर अपना वज्र फेंका। हे महान राजा! इससे स्कंद का दाहिना भाग खुल गया। जब उस महात्मा का पक्ष टूट गया,

वज्रप्रहारात्स्कन्दस्य संजातः पुरुषोऽपरः युवा काञ्चनसंनाहः शक्तिधृग्दिव्यकुण्डलः यद्वज्रविशनाज्जातो विशाखस्तेन सोऽभवत्

from the force of the vajra Skānda birthed another being. He was a youth, decorated in gold. He was clad in celestial earrings and wielded a spear. Since he was created from the entering of the vajra, he was known as Viśākhā.

वज्र की शक्ति से स्कंद ने एक और प्राणी को जन्म दिया। वह सोने से सजा हुआ युवक था। वह दिव्य बालियाँ पहने हुए था और भाला चलाता था। चूँकि उनकी उत्पत्ति वज्र के प्रवेश से हुई थी, इसलिए उन्हें विशाखा के नाम से जाना जाता था।

तं जातमपरं दृष्ट्वा कालानलसमद्युतिम् भयादिन्द्रस्ततः स्कन्दं प्राञ्जलिः शरणं गतः

On seeing another one arise, like the fire of destruction, Indra was frightened. He joined his hands in salutation and sought refuge with Skānda.

विनाश की अग्नि के समान एक और अग्नि उत्पन्न होते देख इन्द्र भयभीत हो गये। उन्होंने हाथ जोड़कर नमस्कार किया और स्कन्द की शरण मांगी।

तस्याभयं ददौ स्कन्दः सहसैन्यस्य सत्तम ततः प्रहृष्टास्त्रिदशा वादित्राण्यभ्यवादयन्

O excellent one! Skānda granted him safety, together with his army. The thirty gods were delighted and played on their musical instruments.

हे उत्कृष्ट ! स्कन्द ने उसे उसकी सेना सहित सुरक्षा प्रदान की। तीस देवता प्रसन्न हुए और अपने-अपने वाद्ययंत्र बजाने लगे।
