वैशंपायन उवाच तस्य संपश्यतस्त्वेव पिनाकी वृषभध्वजः जगामादर्शनं भानुर्लोकस्येवास्तमेयिवान्

Vaiśampāyana said: Like a setting sun before the eyes of the worlds, Pināki Vṛṣabhadhvaja disappeared before his eyes.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: संसार की आंखों के सामने डूबते सूरज की तरह, पिनाकी वृषभध्वज उनकी आंखों के सामने से गायब हो गए।

ततोऽर्जुनः परं चक्रे विस्मयं परवीरहा मया साक्षान्महादेवो दृष्ट इत्येव भारत

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Arjuna, the slayer of enemy warriors, was extremely astounded. He said, "I have seen the great Mahādeva in person.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! शत्रुवीरों का संहार करने वाले अर्जुन को अत्यंत आश्चर्य हुआ। उन्होंने कहा, "मैंने साक्षात् महान महादेव के दर्शन किये हैं।

धन्योऽस्म्यनुगृहीतोऽस्मि यन्मया त्र्यम्बको हरः पिनाकी वरदो रूपी दृष्टः स्पृष्टश्च पाणिना

I am blessed and greatly favoured. For I have seen Tryambaka Hara Pināki, the granter of boons, in person and have touched him with my hands.

मैं धन्य हूं और मुझ पर बहुत कृपा है। क्योंकि मैंने वरदान देने वाले त्रयंबक हारा पिनाकी को साक्षात् देखा है और अपने हाथों से उसका स्पर्श किया है।

कृतार्थं चावगच्छामि परमात्मानमात्मना शत्रूंश्च विजितान्सर्वान्निर्वृत्तं च प्रयोजनम्

I know that I have accomplished my objective. I have already defeated my enemies in battle. All my objectives have been attained."

मैं जानता हूं कि मैंने अपना उद्देश्य पूरा कर लिया है. मैंने युद्ध में अपने शत्रुओं को पहले ही हरा दिया है। मेरे सभी उद्देश्य प्राप्त हो गए हैं।"

ततो वैडूर्यवर्णाभो भासयन्सर्वतो दिशः यादोगणवृतः श्रीमानाजगाम जलेश्वरः

Then, lighting up all the directions, the handsome lord of the waters arrived. His complexion was like that of lapis lazuli and

तभी समस्त दिशाओं को प्रकाशित करते हुए जल के सुन्दर स्वामी का आगमन हुआ। उनका रंग लापीस लाजुली और जैसा था

नागैर्नदैर्नदीभिश्च दैत्यैः साध्यैश्च दैवतैः वरुणो यादसां भर्ता वशी तं देशमागमत्

he was surrounded by aquatic creatures, nāga-s, male and female rivers, daitya-s, sādhya-s and gods. Vāruṇa, the self-controlled lord of all aquatic creatures, arrived in that region.

वह जलीय जीवों, नागों, नर और मादा नदियों, दैत्यों, साध्यों और देवताओं से घिरा हुआ था। समस्त जलीय प्राणियों के स्व-नियंत्रित स्वामी वरुण उस क्षेत्र में आये।

अथ जाम्बूनदवपुर्विमानेन महार्चिषा कुबेरः समनुप्राप्तो यक्षैरनुगतः प्रभुः

Followed by yakṣa-s, the lord Kubera also arrived. His complexion was like that of gold and he arrived in a splendid chariot.

यक्षों के पीछे भगवान कुबेर भी आये। उसका रंग सोने के समान था और वह एक शानदार रथ पर सवार होकर आया था।

विद्योतयन्निवाकाशमद्भुतोपमदर्शनः धनानामीश्वरः श्रीमानर्जुनं द्रष्टुमागतः

The illustrious lord of riches, extraordinary in form, came to see Arjuna, illuminating the sky.

धन के वैभवशाली स्वामी, असाधारण रूप में, आकाश को प्रकाशित करते हुए अर्जुन को देखने आए।

तथा लोकान्तकृच्छ्रीमान्यमः साक्षात्प्रतापवान् मूर्त्यमूर्तिधरैः सार्धं पितृभिर्लोकभावनैः

In similar fashion, the illustrious Yāma, the powerful destroyer of the worlds and the one who makes the worlds prosper, also came in person. He was accompanied by the ancestors, embodied and disembodied.

इसी प्रकार, लोकों के शक्तिशाली संहारक और लोकों को समृद्ध बनाने वाले, यशस्वी यम भी स्वयं आये थे। उनके साथ उनके पूर्वज भी थे, देहधारी और अशरीरी।

दण्डपाणिरचिन्त्यात्मा सर्वभूतविनाशकृत् वैवस्वतो धर्मराजो विमानेनावभासयन्

The destroyer of all beings, whose soul cannot be fathomed, came with a staff in his hand. Dharmarāja, the son of Vivasvat, arrived in a chariot

सभी प्राणियों का नाश करने वाला, जिसकी आत्मा का पता नहीं लगाया जा सकता, हाथ में लाठी लेकर आया था। विवस्वत के पुत्र धर्मराज रथ पर सवार होकर आये

त्रीँल्लोकान्गुह्यकांश्चैव गन्धर्वांश्च सपन्नगान् द्वितीय इव मार्तण्डो युगान्ते समुपस्थिते

that brightened up the three worlds, with guhyaka-s, gāndharva-s and pannaga-s. He was like a second sun when the end of the yuga has arrived.

जिसने गुह्यकों, गंधर्वों और पन्ननागों से तीनों लोकों को उज्ज्वल कर दिया। युग का अंत आने पर वह दूसरे सूर्य के समान थे।

भानुमन्ति विचित्राणि शिखराणि महागिरेः समास्थायार्जुनं तत्र ददृशुस्तपसान्वितम्

From that resplendent and multi-hued peak of that great mountain, they saw Arjuna there, engaged in austerities.

उस विशाल पर्वत के उस दीप्तिमान और बहुरंगी शिखर से, उन्होंने अर्जुन को वहाँ तपस्या में लीन देखा।

ततो मुहूर्ताद्भगवानैरावतशिरोगतः आजगाम सहेन्द्राण्या शक्रः सुरगणैर्वृतः

In a short while, the illustrious god Śākra arrived. He was accompanied by Indrāṇī and was surrounded by masses of gods.He was seated on Airāvata's head.

थोड़ी ही देर में महामहिम भगवान शक्र आ गये। उनके साथ इंद्राणी भी थीं और वे देवताओं की भीड़ से घिरे हुए थे। वह ऐरावत के सिर पर बैठे थे।

पाण्डुरेणातपत्रेण ध्रियमाणेन मूर्धनि शुशुभे तारकाराजः सितमभ्रमिवास्थितः

The white umbrella that was held aloft his head shone like the lord of the stars amidst white clouds.

उसके सिर पर जो सफेद छाता था वह सफेद बादलों के बीच तारों के स्वामी की तरह चमक रहा था।

संस्तूयमानो गन्धर्वैरृषिभिश्च तपोधनैः शृङ्गं गिरेः समासाद्य तस्थौ सूर्य इवोदितः

He was praised by gāndharva-s, riṣi-s and those blessed with the power of austerities and having reached the peak of the mountain, he stood there like a rising sun.

गंधर्वों, ऋषियों और तपस्या की शक्ति से संपन्न लोगों ने उनकी प्रशंसा की और पर्वत के शिखर पर पहुंचकर वे उगते सूरज की तरह वहां खड़े हो गए।

अथ मेघस्वनो धीमान्व्याजहार शुभां गिरम् यमः परमधर्मज्ञो दक्षिणां दिशमास्थितः

Yāma, supremely knowledgeable in dharma, was established in the southern direction. That intelligent one then spoke these pure words, in a voice like the roar of clouds.

धर्म के परम ज्ञानी यम दक्षिण दिशा में स्थापित हुए। तब उस बुद्धिमान ने मेघों की गर्जना के समान स्वर में ये शुद्ध वचन कहे।

अर्जुनार्जुन पश्यास्माँल्लोकपालान्समागतान् दृष्टिं ते वितरामोऽद्य भवानर्हो हि दर्शनम्

"O Arjuna! Behold. All the protectors of the worlds have assembled here. We will give you sight, because you deserve to see us.

"हे अर्जुन! देखो। संसार के सभी रक्षक यहाँ इकट्ठे हुए हैं। हम तुम्हें दृष्टि देंगे, क्योंकि तुम हमें देखने के योग्य हो।"

पूर्वर्षिरमितात्मा त्वं नरो नाम महाबलः नियोगाद्ब्रह्मणस्तात मर्त्यतां समुपागतः त्वं वासवसमुद्भूतो महावीर्यपराक्रमः

In the past, you were an immensely strong riṣi named Nara. O son! Instructed by Brahmā, you have been born on earth. You have been born from Vāsava, who is immensely valorous and powerful.

पूर्वकाल में आप नारा नामक अत्यंत बलशाली ऋषि थे। हे वत्स ब्रह्मा के उपदेश से तुम्हारा जन्म पृथ्वी पर हुआ है। आपका जन्म वासव से हुआ है, जो अत्यंत वीर और शक्तिशाली है।

क्षत्रं चाग्निसमस्पर्शं भारद्वाजेन रक्षितम् दानवाश्च महावीर्या ये मनुष्यत्वमागताः निवातकवचाश्चैव संसाध्याः कुरुनन्दन

O descendant of the Kuru lineage! You will pacify kṣatriya-s who are like fire to the touch and are protected by Bhāradvāja, immensely valorous dānava-s who have been born as men and the nivātakavaca-s.

हे कुरु वंश के वंशज! आप उन क्षत्रियों को शांत करेंगे जो स्पर्श से अग्नि के समान हैं और भारद्वाज द्वारा संरक्षित हैं, अत्यंत वीर दानव हैं जो पुरुषों और निवातकवच के रूप में पैदा हुए हैं।

पितुर्ममांशो देवस्य सर्वलोकप्रतापिनः कर्णः स सुमहावीर्यस्त्वया वध्यो धनंजय

The greatly valorous Karṇa is a part of my father, the sun-god, who heats all the worlds. O Dhanañjayā! He will be slain by you.

अत्यंत पराक्रमी कर्ण मेरे पिता सूर्यदेव का अंश है, जो समस्त लोकों को तपाते हैं। हे धनंजय! वह तुम्हारे द्वारा मारा जायेगा।

अंशाश्च क्षितिसंप्राप्ता देवगन्धर्वरक्षसाम् तया निपातिता युद्धे स्वकर्मफलनिर्जिताम् गतिं प्राप्स्यन्ति कौन्तेय यथास्वमरिकर्शन

You will kill in battle those parts of the gods, dānava-s and rākṣasa-s that have been born on earth. O Kaunteya! O dragger of enemies! They will then obtain their ends, as determined by the fruits of their own deeds.

तुम युद्ध में देवताओं, दानवों और राक्षसों के उन अंगों को मार डालोगे जो पृथ्वी पर पैदा हुए हैं। हे कौन्तेय! हे शत्रुओं को घसीटने वाले! फिर वे अपने कर्मों के फल के आधार पर अपना लक्ष्य प्राप्त करेंगे।

अक्षया तव कीर्तिश्च लोके स्थास्यति फल्गुन त्वया साक्षान्महादेवस्तोषितो हि महामृधे लघ्वी वसुमती चापि कर्तव्या विष्णुना सह

O Phālguna! Your fame will remain eternal in the world. You have pleased Mahādeva himself in a great battle. Along with Viṣṇu, you will lighten the burden of the earth.

हे फाल्गुन! संसार में आपकी कीर्ति अमर रहेगी। तुमने महान युद्ध में स्वयं महादेव को प्रसन्न किया है। आप विष्णु के साथ मिलकर पृथ्वी का बोझ हल्का करेंगे।

गृहाणास्त्रं महाबाहो दण्डमप्रतिवारणम् अनेनास्त्रेण सुमहत्त्वं हि कर्म करिष्यसि

O mightyarmed one! Accept the staff, my weapon that cannot be repulsed. With this weapon, you will accomplish great deeds."

हे पराक्रमी! लाठी स्वीकार करो, मेरा हथियार जिसे प्रतिकार नहीं किया जा सकता। इस अस्त्र से तुम महान कार्य सम्पन्न करोगे।”

प्रतिजग्राह तत्पार्थो विधिवत्कुरुनन्दनः समन्त्रं सोपचारं च समोक्षं सनिवर्तनम्

Pārtha, the descendant of the Kuru lineage, accepted it in accordance with the prescribed rites, with the mantra-s for holding, releasing and withdrawing.

कुरु वंश के वंशज पार्थ ने इसे धारण करने, छोड़ने और वापस लेने के मंत्रों के साथ निर्धारित अनुष्ठानों के अनुसार स्वीकार किया।

ततो जलधरश्यामो वरुणो यादसां पतिः पश्चिमां दिशमास्थाय गिरमुच्चारयन्प्रभुः

Vāruṇa, the lord of aquatic creatures, was established in a western direction. His complexion was as dark as that of a cloud. The lord then uttered these words,

जलीय जीवों के स्वामी वरुण पश्चिम दिशा में स्थापित थे। उसका रंग बादल के समान काला था। तब प्रभु ने ये शब्द कहे,

पार्थ क्षत्रियमुख्यस्त्वं क्षत्रधर्मे व्यवस्थितः पश्य मां पृथुताम्राक्ष वरुणोऽस्मि जलेश्वरः

"O Pārtha! You are foremost among the kṣatriya-s and you are established in the dharma of kṣatriya-s. Behold me with your large and copper-red eyes. I am Vāruṇa, lord of the waters.

"हे पार्थ! आप क्षत्रियों में अग्रणी हैं और आप क्षत्रियों के धर्म में स्थापित हैं। अपनी बड़ी और तांबे जैसी लाल आंखों से मुझे देखें। मैं जल का स्वामी वरुण हूं।

मया समुद्यतान्पाशान्वारुणाननिवारणान् प्रतिगृह्णीष्व कौन्तेय सरहस्यनिवर्तनान्

When discharged by me, Vāruṇa's noose cannot be resisted. O Kaunteya! I am giving it to you. Accept it, together with the mysteries and means of withdrawal.

मेरे द्वारा मुक्त किये जाने पर वरुण के पाश का विरोध नहीं किया जा सकता। हे कौन्तेय! मैं इसे तुम्हें दे रहा हूं. निवृत्ति के रहस्यों एवं साधनों सहित इसे स्वीकार करें।

एभिस्तदा मया वीर संग्रामे तारकामये दैतेयानां सहस्राणि संयतानि महात्मनाम्

O brave one! At the time of the tārakāmaya battle, I used it to restrain thousands of great-souled daitya-s.

हे वीर! तारकामय युद्ध के समय, मैंने इसका उपयोग हजारों महान आत्मा वाले दैत्यों को रोकने के लिए किया था।

तस्मादिमान्महासत्त्व मत्प्रसादात्समुत्थितान् गृहाण न हि ते मुच्येदन्तकोऽप्याततायिनः

O great-souled one! Accept it as a sign of my favour. Even Death will not be able to escape, if you assault him with this.

हे महानात्मा! इसे मेरे अहसान की निशानी समझ कर स्वीकार करो. अगर तुम इससे वार करोगे तो मौत भी नहीं बच पाएगी.

अनेन त्वं यदास्त्रेण संग्रामे विचरिष्यसि तदा निःक्षत्रिया भूमिर्भविष्यति न संशयः

When you are armed with this weapon and roam in the field of battle, there is no doubt that the earth will be bereft of all kṣatriya-s."

जब आप इस हथियार से लैस होकर युद्ध के मैदान में घूमेंगे, तो इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि पृथ्वी सभी क्षत्रियों से रहित हो जाएगी।

ततः कैलासनिलयो धनाध्यक्षोऽभ्यभाषत दत्तेष्वस्त्रेषु दिव्येषु वरुणेन यमेन च

After Vāruṇa and Yāma had given their divine weapons, the lord of riches, who lives on the peak of Kailāsa, spoke. He said,

वरुण और यम द्वारा अपने दिव्य हथियार देने के बाद, धन के स्वामी, जो कैलास के शिखर पर रहते हैं, बोले। उसने कहा,

सव्यसाचिन्महाबाहो पूर्वदेव सनातन सहास्माभिर्भवाञ्श्रान्तः पुराकल्पेषु नित्यशः

"O mighty-armed one! O Savyasachi! Earlier, you were an eternal god. In an earlier erā, your endeavours were always at our side.

"हे महाबाहु! हे सव्यसाची! पहले, आप एक शाश्वत देवता थे। पहले के युग में, आपके प्रयास हमेशा हमारे पक्ष में थे।

मत्तोऽपि त्वं गृहाणास्त्रमन्तर्धानं प्रियं मम ओजस्तेजोद्युतिहरं प्रस्वापनमरातिहन्

Accept this favourite weapon of mine, known as antardhāna. It is energetic, vigorous and resplendent. O destroyer of enemies! It can put the enemy to sleep."

मेरे इस पसंदीदा हथियार को स्वीकार करें, जिसे अंतर्धान के नाम से जाना जाता है। यह ऊर्जावान, ओजस्वी और तेजस्वी है। हे शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले! यह दुश्मन को मौत की नींद सुला सकता है।"

ततोऽर्जुनो महाबाहुर्विधिवत्कुरुनन्दनः कौबेरमपि जग्राह दिव्यमस्त्रं महाबलः

Then the mighty-armed Arjuna, descendant of the Kuru lineage, accepted Kubera's divine weapon in accordance with the rites.

तब कुरु वंश के महाबाहु अर्जुन ने रीति-रिवाज के अनुसार कुबेर के दिव्य हथियार को स्वीकार कर लिया।

ततोऽब्रवीद्देवराजः पार्थमक्लिष्टकारिणम् सान्त्वयञ्श्लक्ष्णया वाचा मेघदुन्दुभिनिस्वनः

The king of the gods now spoke to Pārtha, the performer of unsullied deeds. He pacified him in gentle words, in a voice that was like a cloud or a kettledrum,

देवताओं के राजा ने अब निष्कलंक कर्म करने वाले पार्थ से बात की। उसने उसे कोमल शब्दों में शांत किया, ऐसी आवाज़ में जो बादल या केतली की तरह थी,

कुन्तीमातर्महाबाहो त्वमीशानः पुरातनः परां सिद्धिमनुप्राप्तः साक्षाद्देवगतिं गतः

"O mighty-armed one! O one with Kuntī as your mother! You are the ancient Īśāna. You have already obtained supreme salvation earlier and have personally gone the way of the gods.

"हे महाबाहु! हे कुंती को अपनी माता मानने वाले! आप प्राचीन ईशान हैं। आपने पहले ही सर्वोच्च मोक्ष प्राप्त कर लिया है और व्यक्तिगत रूप से देवताओं के मार्ग पर चले गए हैं।

देवकार्यं हि सुमहत्त्वया कार्यमरिंदम आरोढव्यस्त्वया स्वर्गः सज्जीभव महाद्युते

O conqueror of enemies! You must now accomplish a great task for the sake of the gods. You will now ascend to heaven. O immensely radiant one! Prepare yourself.

हे शत्रुओं के विजेता! अब तुम्हें देवताओं के लिये एक महान कार्य पूरा करना होगा। अब तुम स्वर्ग पर चढ़ोगे। हे अत्यंत तेजस्वी! अपने आप को तैयार करें।

रथो मातलिसंयुक्त आगन्ता त्वत्कृते महीम् तत्र तेऽहं प्रदास्यामि दिव्यान्यस्त्राणि कौरव

My chariot will descend to earth for you, driven by Mātali. O Kaurava! I will give you divine weapons there."

मातलि द्वारा संचालित मेरा रथ तुम्हारे लिए पृथ्वी पर उतरेगा। हे कौरव! मैं तुम्हें वहां दिव्य अस्त्र-शस्त्र दूंगा।”

तान्दृष्ट्वा लोकपालांस्तु समेतान्गिरिमूर्धनि जगाम विस्मयं धीमान्कुन्तीपुत्रो धनंजयः

Having seen the lords of the worlds assembled on the peak of that mountain, intelligent Dhanañjayā, Kuntī's son, was astounded.

उस पर्वत के शिखर पर सभी लोकों के राजाओं को एकत्रित देखकर कुंती के पुत्र बुद्धिमान धनंजय आश्चर्यचकित हो गये।

ततोऽर्जुनो महातेजा लोकपालान्समागतान् पूजयामास विधिवद्वाग्भिरद्भिः फलैरपि

Then the immensely energetic Arjuna paid homage to the assembled lords of the worlds in accordance with the rites, with words, water and fruit.

तब अत्यधिक ऊर्जावान अर्जुन ने शब्दों, जल और फल के साथ अनुष्ठान के अनुसार दुनिया के एकत्रित राजाओं को श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की।

ततः प्रतिययुर्देवाः प्रतिपूज्य धनंजयम् यथागतेन विबुधाः सर्वे काममनोजवाः

The gods honoured Dhanañjayā in return. All of them then returned as they had come, capable of going wherever they wished, with the speed of thought.

देवताओं ने बदले में धनंजय को सम्मानित किया। फिर वे सभी वैसे ही लौट आये जैसे आये थे, विचार की गति से जहाँ चाहें वहाँ जाने में सक्षम थे।

ततोऽर्जुनो मुदं लेभे लब्धास्त्रः पुरुषर्षभः कृतार्थमिव चात्मानं स मेने पूर्णमानसः

Having obtained the weapons, Arjuna, bull among men, was delighted. He considered that his wishes had been satisfied and that his desires had been completely satisfied.

अस्त्र-शस्त्र प्राप्त कर नरश्रेष्ठ अर्जुन प्रसन्न हुआ। उसने माना कि उसकी इच्छाएँ पूरी हो गई हैं और उसकी इच्छाएँ पूरी तरह से संतुष्ट हो गई हैं।
