वैशंपायन उवाच तस्मिन्नगेन्द्रे वसतां तु तेषां; महात्मनां सद्व्रतमास्थितानाम् रतिः प्रमोदश्च बभूव तेषा;माकाङ्क्षतां दर्शनमर्जुनस्य

Vaiśampāyana said: They lived on that king of mountains. Those great-souled ones established themselves in good vows. They found pleasure and amused themselves, waiting to see Arjuna.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: वे पर्वतों के उस राजा पर रहते थे। उन महात्माओं ने स्वयं को अच्छे व्रतों में स्थापित कर लिया। अर्जुन को देखने की प्रतीक्षा में उन्हें खुशी मिली और उन्होंने अपना मनोरंजन किया।

तान्वीर्ययुक्तान्सुविशुद्धसत्त्वां;स्तेजस्विनः सत्यधृतिप्रधानान् संप्रीयमाणा बहवोऽभिजग्मु;र्गन्धर्वसंघाश्च महर्षयश्च

Those valorous ones were extremely pure in their souls, energetic and devoted to truth and fortitude. Masses of gāndharva-s and maharṣi-s were kindly disposed towards them and came to visit them.

वे वीर लोग अपनी आत्मा में अत्यंत शुद्ध, ऊर्जावान और सत्य और धैर्य के प्रति समर्पित थे। गंधर्वों और महर्षियों की भीड़ उनके प्रति दयालु थी और उनसे मिलने आती थी।

तं पादपैः पुष्पधरैरुपेतं; नगोत्तमं प्राप्य महारथानाम् मनःप्रसादः परमो बभूव; यथा दिवं प्राप्य मरुद्गणानाम्

Having reached that supreme mountain, adorned with blossoming trees, the mahāratha-s were extremely happy in their hearts, like the Marut-s are on attaining heaven.

पुष्पित वृक्षों से सुशोभित उस श्रेष्ठ पर्वत पर पहुँचकर महारथियों को हृदय में अत्यंत प्रसन्नता हुई, जैसे मरुतों को स्वर्ग प्राप्त होने पर प्रसन्नता हो रही हो।

मयूरहंसस्वननादितानि; पुष्पोपकीर्णानि महाचलस्य शृङ्गाणि सानूनि च पश्यमाना; गिरेः परं हर्षमवाप्य तस्थुः

They beheld the peaks and the ridges of that great mountain, resounding with the calls of peacocks and swans and strewn with many flowers, and felt great joy.

उन्होंने मोरों और हंसों की आवाज़ से गुंजायमान तथा अनेक फूलों से लदे हुए उस विशाल पर्वत की चोटियों और चोटियों को देखा और बहुत आनंदित हुए।

साक्षात्कुबेरेण कृताश्च तस्मि;न्नगोत्तमे संवृतकूलरोधसः कादम्बकारण्डवहंसजुष्टाः; पद्माकुलाः पुष्करिणीरपश्यन्

Kubera himself tended to them. They saw on that supreme mountain streams with wooded banks and ponds full of lotuses, kādamba-s, kāraṇḍava-s and swans.

कुबेर स्वयं उनकी देखभाल करते थे। उन्होंने उस सर्वोच्च पर्वत पर जंगली किनारों वाली नदियाँ और कमल, कदम्ब, करण्डव और हंसों से भरे तालाब देखे।

क्रीडाप्रदेशांश्च समृद्धरूपा;न्सुचित्रमाल्यावृतजातशोभान् मणिप्रवेकान्सुमनोहरांश्च; यथा भवेयुर्धनदस्य राज्ञः

There were beautiful pleasure grounds, coloured and prosperous, adorned along the sides with garlands and studded with gems that please the mind, like those that are in the possession of the king of riches.

वहाँ रंग-बिरंगे और समृद्ध, सुंदर आनंद के मैदान थे, जो किनारों पर मालाओं से सुशोभित थे और मन को प्रसन्न करने वाले रत्नों से जड़े हुए थे, जैसे कि धन के राजा के कब्जे में हों।

अनेकवर्णैश्च सुगन्धिभिश्च; महाद्रुमैः संततमभ्रमालिभिः तपःप्रधानाः सततं चरन्तः; शृङ्गं गिरेश्चिन्तयितुं न शेकुः

The peak of that mountain had many colours and was fragrant. It had large trees and was covered with masses of clouds. Though they were always devoted to austerities, when they roamed around, they could not fathom it.

उस पर्वत का शिखर अनेक रंगों वाला तथा सुगंधित था। इसमें बड़े-बड़े पेड़ थे और यह बादलों के समूह से ढका हुआ था। यद्यपि वे सदैव तपस्या में समर्पित रहते थे, फिर भी जब वे इधर-उधर घूमते थे, तो उन्हें इसका पता नहीं चलता था।

स्वतेजसा तस्य नगोत्तमस्य; महौषधीनां च तथा प्रभावात् विभक्तभावो न बभूव कश्चि;दहर्निशानां पुरुषप्रवीर

O warrior among men! Because of the energy of that great mountain and the luminescence of its great herbs, no difference could be seen between night and day.

हे मनुष्यों में योद्धा! उस महान पर्वत की ऊर्जा और उसकी महान जड़ी-बूटियों की चमक के कारण रात और दिन में कोई अंतर नहीं देखा जा सकता था।

यमास्थितः स्थावरजङ्गमानि; विभावसुर्भावयतेऽमितौजाः तस्योदयं चास्तमयं च वीरा;स्तत्र स्थितास्ते ददृशुर्नृसिंहाः

While dwelling there, those brave lions among men saw the rising and the setting of the sun, the infinitely energetic sun who lived there and nourished all beings, mobile and immobile.

वहां रहते हुए, उन बहादुर मनुष्यों ने सूर्य को उगते और डूबते देखा, असीम ऊर्जावान सूर्य जो वहां रहता था और सभी प्राणियों, जंगम और स्थिर प्राणियों का पोषण करता था।

रवेस्तमिस्रागमनिर्गमांस्ते; तथोदयं चास्तमयं च वीराः समावृताः प्रेक्ष्य तमोनुदस्य; गभस्तिजालैः प्रदिशो दिशश्च

The brave ones saw how darkness was dispelled when the sun rose and how it returned when it had set. They saw how all the directions were enveloped in the nets spread by the rays of the sun.

वीरों ने देखा कि जब सूर्य उगता था तो अँधेरा कैसे दूर हो जाता था और जब डूब जाता था तो कैसे वापस लौट आता था। उन्होंने देखा कि किस प्रकार सारी दिशाएँ सूर्य की किरणों द्वारा फैलाये गये जाल में घिर गयी हैं।

स्वाध्यायवन्तः सततक्रियाश्च; धर्मप्रधानाश्च शुचिव्रताश्च सत्ये स्थितास्तस्य महारथस्य; सत्यव्रतस्यागमनप्रतीक्षाः

They waited for the arrival of the mahāratha who was truthful in his vows. They studied and always performed the rituals. They followed dharma and were pure in their vows. They were always established in truth.

वे उस महारथ के आगमन की प्रतीक्षा कर रहे थे जो अपनी प्रतिज्ञा में सच्चा था। वे अध्ययन करते थे और सदैव अनुष्ठान करते थे। वे धर्म का पालन करते थे और अपनी प्रतिज्ञाओं में शुद्ध थे। वे सदैव सत्य में स्थापित थे।

इहैव हर्षोऽस्तु समागतानां; क्षिप्रं कृतास्त्रेण धनंजयेन इति ब्रुवन्तः परमाशिषस्ते; पार्थास्तपोयोगपरा बभूवुः

"We will soon find joy in this spot, when Dhanañjayā returns, having obtained the weapons." This is what the Pārtha-s pronounced as a supreme benediction and they devoted themselves to austerities and yoga.

"हमें जल्द ही इस स्थान पर खुशी मिलेगी, जब धनंजय हथियार प्राप्त करके लौटेंगे।" इसे पार्थों ने सर्वोच्च आशीर्वाद के रूप में उच्चारित किया और उन्होंने स्वयं को तपस्या और योग के लिए समर्पित कर दिया।

दृष्ट्वा विचित्राणि गिरौ वनानि; किरीटिनं चिन्तयतामभीक्ष्णम् बभूव रात्रिर्दिवसश्च तेषां; संवत्सरेणैव समानरूपः

They saw many beautiful mountains and forests, but constantly thought about Kirīṭī. Every day and every night seemed like an entire year to them.

उन्होंने कई खूबसूरत पहाड़ और जंगल देखे, लेकिन वे लगातार किरीटी के बारे में सोचते रहे। हर दिन और हर रात उन्हें पूरे साल के समान लगती थी।

यदैव धौम्यानुमते महात्मा; कृत्वा जटाः प्रव्रजितः स जिष्णुः तदैव तेषां न बभूव हर्षः; कुतो रतिस्तद्गतमानसानाम्

From the moment when the great-souled Jiṣṇu had obtained Dhaumya's permission and had left with matted hair, from that instant happiness had deserted them. How could they find pleasure when their hearts were with him?

जिस क्षण से महान आत्मा जिष्णु ने धौम्य की अनुमति प्राप्त की थी और उलझे बालों के साथ चले गए थे, उसी क्षण से खुशी ने उनका साथ छोड़ दिया था। जब उनके हृदय उसके साथ थे तो उन्हें आनन्द कैसे मिल सकता था?

भ्रातुर्नियोगात्तु युधिष्ठिरस्य; वनादसौ वारणमत्तगामी यत्काम्यकात्प्रव्रजितः स जिष्णु;स्तदैव ते शोकहता बभूवुः

They had been stricken with grief ever since Jiṣṇu, whose gait was like that of an elephant, had followed the instructions of his brother Yudhiṣṭhira and had left Kāmyaka forest.

वे तब से दुःख से पीड़ित थे जब जिष्णु, जिसकी चाल हाथी की तरह थी, ने अपने भाई युधिष्ठिर के निर्देशों का पालन किया था और काम्यक वन छोड़ दिया था।

तथा तु तं चिन्तयतां सिताश्व;मस्त्रार्थिनं वासवमभ्युपेतम् मासोऽथ कृच्छ्रेण तदा व्यतीत;स्तस्मिन्नगे भारत भारतानाम्

They thought of the one whose steeds were white. He had gone to Vāsava in search of weapons. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! In this way, the Bhāratas spent a month in that mountain, immersed in melancholy.

उन्होंने उस व्यक्ति के बारे में सोचा जिसके घोड़े सफ़ेद थे। वह हथियारों की तलाश में वसावा गया था। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! इस प्रकार भरतों ने उस पर्वत पर विषाद में डूबे हुए एक मास व्यतीत किया।

ततः कदाचिद्धरिसंप्रयुक्तं; महेन्द्रवाहं सहसोपयातम् विद्युत्प्रभं प्रेक्ष्य महारथानां; हर्षोऽर्जुनं चिन्तयतां बभूव

Then one day, when the mahāratha-s were thinking of Arjuna, they rejoiced when they suddenly saw Māhendra's chariot approach, like a flash of lightning, and yoked to tawny horses.

फिर एक दिन, जब महारथी अर्जुन के बारे में सोच रहे थे, तब उन्हें खुशी हुई जब उन्होंने अचानक महेंद्र के रथ को बिजली की चमक की तरह आते देखा, और उसके घोड़े जुए में बंधे हुए थे।

स दीप्यमानः सहसान्तरिक्षं; प्रकाशयन्मातलिसंगृहीतः बभौ महोल्केव घनान्तरस्था; शिखेव चाग्नेर्ज्वलिता विधूमा

It suddenly blazed in the firmament, like a giant meteor hidden in the clouds or like the flaming crest of a fire that has no smoke. It was driven by Mātali.

यह अचानक आकाश में चमक उठा, बादलों में छुपी हुई एक विशाल उल्का की तरह या आग की धधकती शिखा की तरह, जिसमें कोई धुआं नहीं है। इसे मातलि द्वारा संचालित किया गया था।

तमास्थितः संददृशे किरीटी; स्रग्वी वराण्याभरणानि बिभ्रत् धनंजयो वज्रधरप्रभावः; श्रिया ज्वलन्पर्वतमाजगाम

Kirīṭī could be seen in it, garlanded and adorned in the best of ornaments. Dhanañjayā was the equal of the wielder of the vajra in his power and arrived at the mountain, dazzling in his beauty.

इसमें किरीटी को माला पहने और सर्वोत्तम आभूषणों से सुसज्जित देखा जा सकता था। धनन्जय अपनी शक्ति में वज्र के धारक के बराबर थे और अपनी सुंदरता से चकाचौंध होकर पर्वत पर पहुंचे।

स शैलमासाद्य किरीटमाली; महेन्द्रवाहादवरुह्य तस्मात् धौम्यस्य पादावभिवाद्य पूर्व;मजातशत्रोस्तदनन्तरं च

When the one with the diadem on his head arrived at the mountain, he descended from Māhendra's chariot and first paid his respect at Dhaumya's feet, followed by Ajātaśatru next.

जब सिर पर मुकुट वाला व्यक्ति पर्वत पर पहुंचा, तो वह महेंद्र के रथ से उतरा और सबसे पहले धौम्य के चरणों में अपना सम्मान व्यक्त किया, उसके बाद अजातशत्रु ने।

वृकोदरस्यापि ववन्द पादौ; माद्रीसुताभ्यामभिवादितश्च समेत्य कृष्णां परिसान्त्व्य चैनां; प्रह्वोऽभवद्भ्रातुरुपह्वरे सः

He then bowed down at Vṛkodara's feet and was himself worshipped by Mādrī's sons. Then he went to Kṛṣṇā and comforted her. With humility, he stood below his brother.

फिर उन्होंने वृकोदर के चरणों में सिर झुकाया और माद्री के पुत्रों ने स्वयं उनकी पूजा की। फिर वह कृष्ण के पास गए और उन्हें सांत्वना दी। वह नम्रता के साथ अपने भाई के नीचे खड़ा हो गया।

बभूव तेषां परमः प्रहर्ष;स्तेनाप्रमेयेण समागतानाम् स चापि तान्प्रेक्ष्य किरीटमाली; ननन्द राजानमभिप्रशंसन्

Those who were there were extremely delighted at being reunited with the one who cannot be measured. The one who had the diadem on his head was also delighted on seeing them and praised the king.

जो लोग वहां थे वे उस व्यक्ति के साथ फिर से जुड़कर बेहद खुश थे जिसे मापा नहीं जा सकता। जिसके सिर पर राजमुकुट था वह भी उन्हें देखकर प्रसन्न हुआ और राजा की प्रशंसा की।

यमास्थितः सप्त जघान पूगा;न्दितेः सुतानां नमुचेर्निहन्ता तमिन्द्रवाहं समुपेत्य पार्थाः; प्रदक्षिणं चक्रुरदीनसत्त्वाः

With happiness in their hearts, the Pārtha-s approached and circled Indra's chariot. On this, the slayer of Namuci had destroyed seven groups of Diti's sons.

अपने हृदय में प्रसन्नता के साथ, पार्थ-देव इंद्र के रथ के पास आये और उसकी परिक्रमा करने लगे। इस पर नमुचि के हत्यारे ने दिति के पुत्रों के सात समूहों को नष्ट कर दिया था।

ते मातलेश्चक्रुरतीव हृष्टाः; सत्कारमग्र्यं सुरराजतुल्यम् सर्वं यथावच्च दिवौकसस्ता;न्पप्रच्छुरेनं कुरुराजपुत्राः

The princes of the Kuru lineage were extremely happy. They showed honour to Mātali, equal to what the king of the gods would have warranted. As was appropriate, they asked him about the welfare of the gods.

कुरु वंश के राजकुमार अत्यंत प्रसन्न थे। उन्होंने मातलि को उतना ही सम्मान दिया जितना देवताओं के राजा ने चाहा होगा। जैसा उचित था, उन्होंने उनसे देवताओं के कल्याण के बारे में पूछा।

तानप्यसौ मातलिरभ्यनन्द;त्पितेव पुत्राननुशिष्य चैनान् ययौ रथेनाप्रतिमप्रभेण; पुनः सकाशं त्रिदिवेश्वरस्य

In turn, Mātali greeted them and instructed them, like a father does his sons. In that chariot that was unmatched in its splendour, he then returned to the lord of the gods.

बदले में, मातलि ने उनका स्वागत किया और उन्हें निर्देश दिया, जैसे एक पिता अपने पुत्रों को करता है। वह उस रथ में, जो अपनी शोभा में अद्वितीय था, देवताओं के स्वामी के पास लौट आया।

गते तु तस्मिन्वरदेववाहे; शक्रात्मजः सर्वरिपुप्रमाथी शक्रेण दत्तानि ददौ महात्मा; महाधनान्युत्तमरूपवन्ति दिवाकराभाणि विभूषणानि; प्रीतः प्रियायै सुतसोममात्रे

When the chariot of the supreme god had departed, Śākra's great-souled son, the destroyer of all enemies, presented all the expensive and beautiful gifts that Śākra had given. The ornaments that he lovingly gave to his beloved, Sutasoma's mother, glittered like the sun's rays.

जब सर्वोच्च भगवान का रथ चला गया, तो सभी शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले, शक्र के महान आत्मा वाले पुत्र ने, शक्र द्वारा दिए गए सभी महंगे और सुंदर उपहार प्रस्तुत किए। जो आभूषण उन्होंने प्रेमपूर्वक अपनी प्रियतमा सुतसोमा को दिये थे, वे सूर्य की किरणों के समान चमक रहे थे।

ततः स तेषां कुरुपुंगवानां; तेषां च सूर्याग्निसमप्रभाणाम् विप्रर्षभाणामुपविश्य मध्ये; सर्वं यथावत्कथयां बभूव

Then he seated himself in the midst of the bulls of the Kuru lineage, resplendent like the sun and the fire. He sat in the midst of the brāhmaṇa riṣi-s and recounted everything that had happened.

फिर वह सूर्य और अग्नि के समान देदीप्यमान, कुरु वंश के बैलों के बीच में बैठ गया। वह ब्राह्मण ऋषियों के बीच में बैठ गया और जो कुछ घटित हुआ था, सब बता दिया।

एवं मयास्त्राण्युपशिक्षितानि; शक्राच्च वाताच्च शिवाच्च साक्षात् तथैव शीलेन समाधिना च; प्रीताः सुरा मे सहिताः सहेन्द्राः

"I have learnt these weapons from Śākra, the wind-god and Śivā themselves. Together with the gods, Indra was pleased at my conduct and my concentration."

"मैंने ये हथियार शक्र, पवन-देवता और स्वयं शिव से सीखे हैं। देवताओं के साथ-साथ इंद्र भी मेरे आचरण और मेरी एकाग्रता से प्रसन्न थे।"

संक्षेपतो वै स विशुद्धकर्मा; तेभ्यः समाख्याय दिवि प्रवेशम् माद्रीसुताभ्यां सहितः किरीटी; सुष्वाप तामावसतिं प्रतीतः

Having briefly told them about his entry into heaven, Kirīṭī, the performer of pure deeds, happily went to sleep, spending the night with Mādrī's sons.

उन्हें स्वर्ग में अपने प्रवेश के बारे में संक्षेप में बताकर, शुद्ध कर्म करने वाले किरीटी, माद्री के पुत्रों के साथ रात बिताते हुए, खुशी से सोने चले गए।
