वैशंपायन उवाच ते वीरा बद्धनिस्त्रिंशास्ततायुधकलापिनः बद्धगोधाङ्गुलित्राणाः कालिन्दीमभितो ययुः

Vaiśampāyana said: Those brave ones girded their swords and were armed with other weapons. Their quivers were tied. They had guards on their fingers and wrists. They proceeded towards the river Kālindī.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: वे बहादुर लोग अपनी तलवारें बांधे हुए थे और अन्य हथियारों से लैस थे। उनके तरकश बंधे हुए थे. उनकी उंगलियों और कलाइयों पर पहरेदार थे। वे कालिंदी नदी की ओर आगे बढ़े।

युधिष्ठिर उवाच धनंजय समुद्यम्य पाञ्चालीं वह भारत राजधान्यां निवत्स्यामो विमुक्ताश्च वनादितः

Yudhiṣṭhira replied: "O Dhanañjayā! O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Lift Pāñcālī and carry her. Once we free ourselves from this forest, we will settle down in the capital."

युधिष्ठिर ने उत्तर दिया: "हे धनंजय! हे भरत वंश के वंशज! पंचाली को उठाओ और उसे ले जाओ। एक बार जब हम खुद को इस जंगल से मुक्त कर लेंगे, तो हम राजधानी में बस जाएंगे।"

Vaiśampāyana said: Like a king of elephants, Arjuna swiftly raised Draupadī up. Arjuna put her down when they reached the outskirts of the capital.

O son! If we enter the city with our weapons, there is no doubt that we will create anxiety among the people.

We have made a promise that even if one of us happens to be discovered, we will have to return to the forest again for twelve years."

हमने वादा किया है कि अगर हममें से एक भी खोज लिया गया तो हमें बारह साल के लिए फिर से जंगल में लौटना होगा।"

अर्जुन उवाच इयं कूटे मनुष्येन्द्र गहना महती शमी भीमशाखा दुरारोहा श्मशानस्य समीपतः

Arjuna said: "O Indra among men! On this peak and close to the cremation ground, there is a gigantic śamī tree.

अर्जुन ने कहा: "हे मनुष्यों में इंद्र! इस शिखर पर और श्मशान भूमि के निकट, एक विशाल शमी वृक्ष है।

न चापि विद्यते कश्चिन्मनुष्य इह पार्थिव उत्पथे हि वने जाता मृगव्यालनिषेविते

It is impenetrable because of its fearsome branches and is difficult to climb. O king! Not a single man can be seen here. It is far away from the road and has grown in a forest frequented by animals and predators.

यह अपनी डरावनी शाखाओं के कारण अभेद्य है और इस पर चढ़ना कठिन है। हे राजा! यहां एक भी आदमी नजर नहीं आता. यह सड़क से बहुत दूर है और एक जंगल में उग आया है जहां जानवरों और शिकारियों का आना-जाना लगा रहता है।

समासज्यायुधान्यस्यां गच्छामो नगरं प्रति एवमत्र यथाजोषं विहरिष्याम भारत

Let us hang up our weapons there and then proceed towards the city. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! We will then be able to enjoy ourselves as we please.

आइए हम अपने हथियार वहीं लटका दें और फिर शहर की ओर चलें। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! फिर हम अपनी इच्छानुसार आनंद ले सकेंगे।

Vaiśampāyana said: O bull among the Bhārata lineage! Having thus addressed King Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira, he took off his weapons there.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: हे भरत वंश के बैल! इस प्रकार राजा धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर को सम्बोधित करके उन्होंने अपने हथियार वहीं उतार दिये।

Yudhiṣṭhira, the brave scorcher of enemies, loosened the bow's undecaying string, one with which he had protected Kurukṣetra.

शत्रुओं को परास्त करने वाले वीर युधिष्ठिर ने उस धनुष की कभी न टूटने वाली प्रत्यंचा को ढीला कर दिया, जिससे उन्होंने कुरुक्षेत्र की रक्षा की थी।

पाञ्चालान्येन संग्रामे भीमसेनोऽजयत्प्रभुः प्रत्यषेधद्बहूनेकः सपत्नांश्चैव दिग्जये

Lord Bhīmasena loosened the string of the bow with which he had defeated the Pāñcāla-s in battle and with which, he alone, had conquered many enemies in the course of his conquest.

भगवान भीमसेन ने उस धनुष की प्रत्यंचा ढीली कर दी, जिससे उन्होंने युद्ध में पंचालों को हराया था और जिससे उन्होंने अकेले ही अपनी विजय के दौरान कई शत्रुओं पर विजय प्राप्त की थी।

Enemies were pacified in battle because of the twang of that bow. Mountains were rent asunder with the twang of his bow, which was like that of thunder.

उस धनुष की टंकार से युद्ध में शत्रु शांत हो जाते थे। उसके वज्र के समान धनुष की टंकार से पर्वत टूट जाते थे।

सैन्धवं येन राजानं परामृषत चानघ ज्यापाशं धनुषस्तस्य भीमसेनोऽवतारयत्

O unblemished one! Bhīmasena had used it to oppress the king of Saindhava.

युद्ध में गर्जना करने वाले वीर पाण्डव ने उस धनुष की प्रत्यंचा ढीली कर दी जिससे उन्होंने पश्चिम पर विजय प्राप्त की थी।

The brave lord Sahadeva, whose conduct was honest, loosened the string of the weapon with which he had conquered the southern direction.

They said, "This is our mother, who is one hundred and eighty years old. This is the dharma of our lineage, one that has been followed by our ancestors."

उन्होंने कहा, "यह हमारी माता हैं, जो एक सौ अस्सी वर्ष की हैं। यह हमारे वंश का धर्म है, जिसका पालन हमारे पूर्वज करते आये हैं।"
