वैशंपायन उवाच प्रयान्तं देवकीपुत्रं परवीररुजो दश महारथा महाबाहुमन्वयुः शस्त्रपाणयः

Vaiśampāyana said: Ten mighty-armed mahāratha-s, destroyers of enemy warriors, followed Devakī's son, with weapons in their hands.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: शत्रु योद्धाओं को नष्ट करने वाले दस महारथ अपने हाथों में हथियार लेकर देवकी के पुत्र के पीछे चल रहे थे।

पदातीनां सहस्रं च सादिनां च परंतप भोज्यं च विपुलं राजन्प्रेष्याश्च शतशोऽपरे

O destroyer of enemies! There were one thousand foot soldiers and riders. O king! There were hundreds of others, with plenty of provisions.

हे शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले! वहाँ एक हजार पैदल सैनिक और सवार थे। हे राजा! सैकड़ों अन्य लोग भी थे, जिनके पास पर्याप्त प्रावधान थे।

जनमेजय उवाच कथं प्रयातो दाशार्हो महात्मा मधुसूदनः कानि वा व्रजतस्तस्य निमित्तानि महौजसः

Janamejaya asked: How did the great-souled Dāśārha Madhusūdana travel? What portents were seen when that immensely energetic one progressed?

जनमेजय ने पूछा: महात्मा दशार्ह मधुसूदन ने कैसे यात्रा की? जब वह अत्यंत ऊर्जावान व्यक्ति आगे बढ़ा तो क्या लक्षण दिखे?

वैशंपायन उवाच तस्य प्रयाणे यान्यासन्नद्भुतानि महात्मनः तानि मे शृणु दिव्यानि दैवान्यौत्पातिकानि च

Vaiśampāyana said: When the great-souled one travelled, listen to the extraordinary portents. Some were divine, driven by destiny.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: जब महान आत्मा यात्रा करे, तो असाधारण दृश्यों को सुनो। कुछ दिव्य थे, नियति द्वारा संचालित।

अनभ्रेऽशनिनिर्घोषः सविद्युत्समजायत अन्वगेव च पर्जन्यः प्रावर्षद्विघने भृशम्

Others were adverse portents. In the clear sky, there was thunder, with lightning. Behind him, Pārjanya showered down fiercely, though there were no clouds.

अन्य प्रतिकूल संकेत थे। साफ़ आसमान में गरज के साथ बिजली चमक रही थी। उसके पीछे पर्जन्य ने भयंकर वर्षा की, हालाँकि बादल नहीं थे।

प्रत्यगूहुर्महानद्यः प्राङ्मुखाः सिन्धुसत्तमाः विपरीता दिशः सर्वा न प्राज्ञायत किंचन

The seven great rivers, supreme among rivers, flow in an eastern direction. All of them reversed direction. All the directions were reversed and nothing could be discerned.

नदियों में सर्वोच्च सात महान नदियाँ पूर्व दिशा में बहती हैं। उन सभी ने दिशा उलट दी। सारी दिशाएँ उलट गईं और कुछ भी पता नहीं चल सका।

प्राज्वलन्नग्नयो राजन्पृथिवी समकम्पत उदपानाश्च कुम्भाश्च प्रासिञ्चञ्शतशो जलम्

O king! Fires were ignited and the earth trembled. Hundreds of wells and water pots overflowed and water flowed out. The entire earth was covered in darkness.

हे राजा! आग भड़क उठी और पृथ्वी कांप उठी। सैकड़ों कुएँ और पानी के घड़े भर गये और पानी बह गया। सारी पृथ्वी अंधकार में डूब गई।

तमःसंवृतमप्यासीत्सर्वं जगदिदं तदा न दिशो नादिशो राजन्प्रज्ञायन्ते स्म रेणुना

O king! Because of the dust, the directions and the sub-directions could not be seen.

हे राजा! धूल के कारण दिशा-उपदिशाएं दिखाई नहीं दे रही थीं।

प्रादुरासीन्महाञ्शब्दः खे शरीरं न दृश्यते सर्वेषु राजन्देशेषु तदद्भुतमिवाभवत्

There was a loud roar in the sky, though nothing could be seen. O king! There were extraordinary things in every region.

आकाश में तेज़ गर्जना हुई, हालाँकि कुछ भी दिखाई नहीं दे रहा था। हे राजा! हर क्षेत्र में असाधारण चीजें थीं।

प्रामथ्नाद्धास्तिनपुरं वातो दक्षिणपश्चिमः आरुजन्गणशो वृक्षान्परुषो भीमनिस्वनः

A storm from the south-western direction devastated Hāstinapura. With a harsh and terrible roar, it uprooted a large number of trees.

दक्षिण-पश्चिमी दिशा से आए तूफान ने हस्तिनापुर को तबाह कर दिया। उसने तीव्र एवं भयानक गर्जना के साथ बड़ी संख्या में वृक्षों को उखाड़ फेंका।

यत्र यत्र तु वार्ष्णेयो वर्तते पथि भारत तत्र तत्र सुखो वायुः सर्वं चासीत्प्रदक्षिणम्

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Along whatever route Vārṣṇeya progressed, there was a pleasant breeze and everything was favourable.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! वार्ष्णेय जिस भी मार्ग से आगे बढ़े, वहाँ सुखद हवा थी और सब कुछ अनुकूल था।

ववर्ष पुष्पवर्षं च कमलानि च भूरिशः समश्च पन्था निर्दुःखो व्यपेतकुशकण्टकः

There was a shower of flowers, with a large number of lotuses. The roads became smooth and pleasant, without prickly gras-s and thorns.

फूलों की वर्षा हुई, जिसमें बड़ी संख्या में कमल भी थे। सड़कें कांटेदार घास और कांटों के बिना चिकनी और सुखद हो गईं।

स गच्छन्ब्राह्मणै राजंस्तत्र तत्र महाभुजः अर्च्यते मधुपर्कैश्च सुमनोभिर्वसुप्रदः

O king! Wherever the mighty-armed one went, he was honoured by brāhmana-s. The granter of riches was worshipped with madhuparka and flowers.

हे राजा! वह महाबाहु जहाँ भी गया, ब्राह्मणों ने उसका सम्मान किया। मधुपर्क और पुष्पों से धन प्रदाता की पूजा की गई।

तं किरन्ति महात्मानं वन्यैः पुष्पैः सुगन्धिभिः स्त्रियः पथि समागम्य सर्वभूतहिते रतम्

Women gathered along the road and showered fragrant and wild flowers on the great-souled one.

रास्ते में स्त्रियाँ एकत्र हो गईं और उन महात्मा पर सुगंधित और जंगली फूलों की वर्षा की।

स शालिभवनं रम्यं सर्वसस्यसमाचितम् सुखं परमधर्मिष्ठमत्यगाद्भरतर्षभ

He passed the beautiful Śālibhavana, which had an abundance of crops. O bull among the Bhārata lineage! It was a happy spot, where supreme dharma was followed.

वह सुंदर शालिभवन के पास से गुजरा, जिसमें प्रचुर मात्रा में फसलें थीं। हे भरत वंश में बैल! यह एक सुखमय स्थान था, जहाँ परम धर्म का पालन किया जाता था।

पश्यन्बहुपशून्ग्रामान्रम्यान्हृदयतोषणान् पुराणि च व्यतिक्रामन्राष्ट्राणि विविधानि च

He saw many animals and beautiful villages, pleasant to the heart. There were diverse cities and many kingdoms.

उसने बहुत से जानवर और मन को प्रसन्न करने वाले सुन्दर गाँव देखे। वहाँ विविध नगर और अनेक राज्य थे।

नित्यहृष्टाः सुमनसो भारतैरभिरक्षिताः नोद्विग्नाः परचक्राणामनयानामकोविदाः

The people there were protected by the Bhārata-s and were always happy, happy in their hearts. They were without anxiety and were ignorant about any evil designs on the part of enemies.

वहां के लोग भरत-वंशियों द्वारा संरक्षित थे और उनके दिल में हमेशा खुश, प्रसन्न रहते थे। वे चिंतामुक्त थे और शत्रुओं की किसी भी बुरी योजना से अनभिज्ञ थे।

उपप्लव्यादथायान्तं जनाः पुरनिवासिनः पथ्यतिष्ठन्त सहिता विष्वक्सेनदिदृक्षया

The residents of the city of Upaplavya came out in large numbers to see Viṣvaksena. They stood along the road.

उपप्लव्य नगर के निवासी विश्वक्सेन को देखने के लिए बड़ी संख्या में बाहर आये। वे सड़क के किनारे खड़े थे।

ते तु सर्वे सुनामानमग्निमिद्धमिव प्रभुम् अर्चयामासुरर्च्यं तं देशातिथिमुपस्थितम्

All of them honoured the famous lord, who had arrived in that country as a guest, blazing like a fire, with the homage that he deserved.

उन सभी ने उस प्रसिद्ध स्वामी का, जो अतिथि के रूप में उस देश में आये थे, अग्नि के समान प्रज्वलित होकर, आदर-सत्कार किया जिसके वे पात्र थे।

वृकस्थलं समासाद्य केशवः परवीरहा प्रकीर्णरश्मावादित्ये विमले लोहितायति

Keśava, the slayer of enemy heroes, arrived in Vṛkasthala. The clear sun's scattered rays were red.

शत्रुवीरों का संहार करने वाले केशव वृक्षस्थल में आये। साफ़ सूरज की बिखरी हुई किरणें लाल थीं।

अवतीर्य रथात्तूर्णं कृत्वा शौचं यथाविधि रथमोचनमादिश्य संध्यामुपविवेश ह

He swiftly descended from the chariot and performed the appropriate ablutions. He gave instructions that the chariot should be unyoked and seated himself for the evening rites.

वह तेजी से रथ से नीचे उतरा और उचित स्नान किया। उन्होंने निर्देश दिया कि शाम के अनुष्ठान के लिए रथ को खोलकर स्वयं बैठाया जाए।

दारुकोऽपि हयान्मुक्त्वा परिचर्य च शास्त्रतः मुमोच सर्वं वर्माणि मुक्त्वा चैनानवासृजत्

Having unharnessed the horses and tended to them, in accordance with the sacred texts, Dāruka removed their armour and released them.

पवित्र ग्रंथों के अनुसार, घोड़ों को खोलकर उनकी देखभाल करने के बाद, दारुक ने उनके कवच उतार दिए और उन्हें रिहा कर दिया।

अभ्यतीत्य तु तत्सर्वमुवाच मधुसूदनः युधिष्ठिरस्य कार्यार्थमिह वत्स्यामहे क्षपाम्

After he had done all that, Madhusūdana said, "To accomplish Yudhiṣṭhira's objective, we will spend the night here."

इतना सब करने के बाद मधुसूदन ने कहा, "युधिष्ठिर के उद्देश्य को पूरा करने के लिए, हम यहीं रात बिताएंगे।"

तस्य तन्मतमाज्ञाय चक्रुरावसथं नराः क्षणेन चान्नपानानि गुणवन्ति समार्जयन्

Getting to know about his intention, the men instantly set up camp there and obtained excellent food and drink.

उनके इरादे के बारे में जानकर, लोगों ने तुरंत वहां शिविर लगाया और उत्कृष्ट भोजन और पेय प्राप्त किया।

तस्मिन्ग्रामे प्रधानास्तु य आसन्ब्राह्मणा नृप आर्याः कुलीना ह्रीमन्तो ब्राह्मीं वृत्तिमनुष्ठिताः

O king! The foremost brāhmana-s from the village, noble in birth and conduct, modest and devoted to the tasks of brāhmana-s,

हे राजा! गाँव का सबसे प्रमुख ब्राह्मण, जन्म और आचरण में श्रेष्ठ, विनम्र और ब्राह्मण कार्यों के प्रति समर्पित,

तेऽभिगम्य महात्मानं हृषीकेशमरिंदमम् पूजां चक्रुर्यथान्यायमाशीर्मङ्गलसंयुताम्

approached the great-souled Hṛṣīkeśa, the destroyer of enemies. They worshipped him with benedictions and auspicious words.

शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले महाबली हृषीकेश के पास पहुँचे। उन्होंने आशीर्वाद और शुभ वचनों से उनकी पूजा की।

ते पूजयित्वा दाशार्हं सर्वलोकेषु पूजितम् न्यवेदयन्त वेश्मानि रत्नवन्ति महात्मने

Having worshipped the great-souled Dāśārha, honoured by all the worlds, they offered him their houses, with all their riches.

सभी लोकों द्वारा सम्मानित, महान आत्मा वाले दशार्ह की पूजा करके, उन्होंने उन्हें अपनी सारी संपत्ति सहित अपने घर अर्पित कर दिये।

तान्प्रभुः कृतमित्युक्त्वा सत्कृत्य च यथार्हतः अभ्येत्य तेषां वेश्मानि पुनरायात्सहैव तैः

The lord told them that they had done enough and returned their homage in the appropriate way. Having entered their houses, he returned again, in their company.

प्रभु ने उनसे कहा कि उन्होंने बहुत कुछ किया है और उचित तरीके से अपनी श्रद्धांजलि लौटा दी है। उनके घरों में प्रवेश करने के बाद, वह फिर से उनकी संगति में लौट आया।

सुमृष्टं भोजयित्वा च ब्राह्मणांस्तत्र केशवः भुक्त्वा च सह तैः सर्वैरवसत्तां क्षपां सुखम्

Keśava offered succulent food to the brāhmana-s and himself ate in their company. All of them spent the night in comfort.

केशव ने ब्राह्मणों को स्वादिष्ट भोजन कराया और स्वयं भी उनके साथ भोजन किया। उन सभी ने आराम से रात बिताई.
