नारद उवाच सद्भिरारोपितः स्वर्गं पार्थिवैर्भूरिदक्षिणैः अभ्यनुज्ञाय दौहित्रान्ययातिर्दिवमास्थितः

Nārada said: Having been thus made to ascend to heaven by those kings who were extremely generous in the gifts they gave, Yayāti took leave of his grandsons and was established in heaven.

नारद ने कहा: इस प्रकार उन राजाओं द्वारा स्वर्ग में चढ़ाए जाने के बाद, जो उपहार देने में बेहद उदार थे, ययाति ने अपने पोते-पोतियों से विदा ली और स्वर्ग में स्थापित हो गए।

अभिवृष्टश्च वर्षेण नानापुष्पसुगन्धिना परिष्वक्तश्च पुण्येन वायुना पुण्यगन्धिना

There was a shower of fragrant flowers. There was an auspicious breeze with a holy scent.

सुगंधित पुष्पों की वर्षा होने लगी। पवित्र सुगंध से युक्त शुभ वायु चल रही थी।

अचलं स्थानमारुह्य दौहित्रफलनिर्जितम् कर्मभिः स्वैरुपचितो जज्वाल परया श्रिया

Amidst this, he attained that eternal station because of the fruits earned by his grandsons. This was enhanced with his own deeds and he was resplendent with supreme prosperity.

इन सबके बीच उन्हें अपने पोते-पोतियों के फल से वह शाश्वत पद प्राप्त हुआ। यह उसके अपने कर्मों से बढ़ा हुआ था और वह परम समृद्धि से देदीप्यमान था।

उपगीतोपनृत्तश्च गन्धर्वाप्सरसां गणैः प्रीत्या प्रतिगृहीतश्च स्वर्गे दुन्दुभिनिस्वनैः

He was happily received in heaven by masses of gāndharva-s and āpsara-s, with singing and dancing. There was the sound of drums being beaten.

स्वर्ग में गंधर्वों और अप्सराओं की भीड़ ने गायन और नृत्य के साथ उनका खुशी-खुशी स्वागत किया। ढोल पीटने की आवाज आ रही थी.

अभिष्टुतश्च विविधैर्देवराजर्षिचारणैः अर्चितश्चोत्तमार्घेण दैवतैरभिनन्दितः

He was applauded by many gods, rājarṣi-s and bards. He was offered excellent hospitality and was honoured by the gods.

कई देवताओं, राजर्षियों और बंजारों ने उनकी सराहना की। उन्हें उत्कृष्ट आतिथ्य प्रदान किया गया और देवताओं द्वारा उनका सम्मान किया गया।

प्राप्तः स्वर्गफलं चैव तमुवाच पितामहः निर्वृतं शान्तमनसं वचोभिस्तर्पयन्निव

He obtained the fruits of heaven. The grandfather spoke to the happy and serene king, as if satisfying him with these words.

उसे स्वर्ग का फल प्राप्त हुआ। पितामह प्रसन्न और शांत राजा से बोले, मानो इन शब्दों से उन्हें संतुष्ट कर रहे हों।

चतुष्पादस्त्वया धर्मश्चितो लोक्येन कर्मणा अक्षयस्तव लोकोऽयं कीर्तिश्चैवाक्षया दिवि पुनस्तवाद्य राजर्षे सुकृतेनेह कर्मणा

"Through your deeds in the world, you have entirely accumulated the four parts of dharma. This eternal world is yours. You will again have eternal fame in heaven because of your good deeds. O rājarṣi!

"संसार में अपने कर्मों के माध्यम से, आपने धर्म के चारों भागों को पूरी तरह से संचित कर लिया है। यह शाश्वत संसार आपका है। आप अपने अच्छे कर्मों के कारण स्वर्ग में फिर से शाश्वत प्रसिद्धि प्राप्त करेंगे। हे राजर्षि!

आवृतं तमसा चेतः सर्वेषां स्वर्गवासिनाम् येन त्वां नाभिजानन्ति ततोऽज्ञात्वासि पातितः

Darkness had clouded the intelligence of all those who dwell in heaven. They did not recognize you because of this. Because you were not known, you fell down.

स्वर्ग में रहने वाले सभी लोगों की बुद्धि पर अंधकार छा गया था। इस कारण वे तुम्हें पहचान नहीं सके। क्योंकि तुम्हें पता नहीं था, तुम गिर पड़े।

प्रीत्यैव चासि दौहित्रैस्तारितस्त्वमिहागतः स्थानं च प्रतिपन्नोऽसि कर्मणा स्वेन निर्जितम् अचलं शाश्वतं पुण्यमुत्तमं ध्रुवमव्ययम्

You have returned here again after your grandsons affectionately saved you. You have regained the station you had won through your deeds. This is immoveable, eternal, sacred, supreme, permanent and without decay."

जब आपके पोते-पोतियों ने स्नेहपूर्वक आपका उद्धार किया, तब आप पुनः यहाँ आये हैं। आपने अपने कर्मों से जो स्थान जीता था उसे पुनः प्राप्त कर लिया है। यह अचल, शाश्वत, पवित्र, सर्वोच्च, स्थायी और क्षय रहित है।”

ययातिरुवाच भगवन्संशयो मेऽस्ति कश्चित्तं छेत्तुमर्हसि न ह्यन्यमहमर्हामि प्रष्टुं लोकपितामह

Yayāti replied: "O illustrious one! I have a doubt. Please dispel it. O grandfather of the world! It is not proper that I should ask anyone else.

ययाति ने उत्तर दिया: "हे महान! मुझे संदेह है। कृपया इसे दूर करें। हे जगत के पितामह! यह उचित नहीं है कि मैं किसी और से पूछूँ।"

बहुवर्षसहस्रान्तं प्रजापालनवर्धितम् अनेकक्रतुदानौघैरर्जितं मे महत्फलम्

I protected and extended my subjects for thousands of years. I performed many sacrifices and gave a flood of gifts and obtained great fruits.

मैंने हजारों वर्षों तक अपनी प्रजा की रक्षा की और उसका विस्तार किया। मैंने बहुत से यज्ञ किये, ढेरों उपहार दिये और महान फल प्राप्त किये।

कथं तदल्पकालेन क्षीणं येनास्मि पातितः भगवन्वेत्थ लोकांश्च शाश्वतान्मम निर्जितान्

How could they be exhausted in such a short span of time? Why did I fall down? O illustrious one! You know that I had obtained eternal worlds."

इतने कम समय में वे कैसे थक गये? मैं नीचे क्यों गिर गया? हे महामहिम! तुम जानते हो कि मुझे अनन्त लोक प्राप्त हो गये हैं।”

पितामह उवाच बहुवर्षसहस्रान्तं प्रजापालनवर्धितम् अनेकक्रतुदानौघैर्यत्त्वयोपार्जितं फलम्

The grandfather replied: You have protected and extended your subjects for thousands of years. You have perfomed many sacrifices and given a flood of gifts. You obtained fruits.

पितामह ने उत्तर दिया- तुमने हजारों वर्षों तक अपनी प्रजा की रक्षा और विस्तार किया है। आपने बहुत से यज्ञ किये हैं और बहुत से उपहार दिये हैं। तुम्हें फल प्राप्त हुआ.

तदनेनैव दोषेण क्षीणं येनासि पातितः अभिमानेन राजेन्द्र धिक्कृतः स्वर्गवासिभिः

But all of those were destroyed through a single taint and you were thrown down. O Indra among kings! The residents of heaven censured you because of your insolence.

परन्तु एक ही कलंक से वे सब नष्ट हो गये और आप नीचे गिरा दिये गये। हे राजाओं में इन्द्र! तुम्हारी धृष्टता के कारण स्वर्गवासियों ने तुम्हारी निन्दा की।

नायं मानेन राजर्षे न बलेन न हिंसया न शाठ्येन न मायाभिर्लोको भवति शाश्वतः

O rājarṣi! If there is vanity, strength, violence, wickedness and deceit, this world cannot become eternal.

हे राजर्षि! यदि अहंकार, शक्ति, हिंसा, दुष्टता और छल है तो यह संसार शाश्वत नहीं हो सकता।

नावमान्यास्त्वया राजन्नवरोत्कृष्टमध्यमाः न हि मानप्रदग्धानां कश्चिदस्ति समः क्वचित्

O king! You should not disrespect those who are superior, inferior, or in the middle. No one can be an equal to those who are consumed by vanity.

हे राजा! आपको उन लोगों का अनादर नहीं करना चाहिए जो श्रेष्ठ, निम्न या मध्य में हैं। जो लोग घमंड में डूबे हुए हैं, उनके बराबर कोई नहीं हो सकता।

पतनारोहणमिदं कथयिष्यन्ति ये नराः विषमाण्यपि ते प्राप्तास्तरिष्यन्ति न संशयः

There is no doubt that men who recount the story of your fall and subsequent ascendance will be freed from all calamities."

इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि जो मनुष्य आपके पतन और उसके बाद उत्थान की कहानी सुनाएंगे, वे सभी विपत्तियों से मुक्त हो जायेंगे।"

नारद उवाच एष दोषोऽभिमानेन पुरा प्राप्तो ययातिना निर्बन्धतश्चातिमात्रं गालवेन महीपते

Nārada said: O lord of the earth! In ancient times, Yayāti was diminished by this taint of insolence and Gālava because of his excessive obstinacy.

नारद ने कहा: हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! प्राचीन काल में ययाति को धृष्टता के इस कलंक से और गालव को अपनी अत्यधिक हठ के कारण क्षीण होना पड़ा था।

श्रोतव्यं हितकामानां सुहृदां भूतिमिच्छताम् न कर्तव्यो हि निर्बन्धो निर्बन्धो हि क्षयोदयः

Those who desire their own welfare should listen to the advice of well-wishers who wish them well. One should not be stubborn. Obstinacy gives rise to destruction.

जो लोग अपना कल्याण चाहते हैं उन्हें उन शुभचिंतकों की सलाह सुननी चाहिए जो उनका भला चाहते हैं। व्यक्ति को जिद्दी नहीं होना चाहिए. हठ विनाश को जन्म देता है।

तस्मात्त्वमपि गान्धारे मानं क्रोधं च वर्जय संधत्स्व पाण्डवैर्वीर संरम्भं त्यज पार्थिव

O Gāndhārī's son! Therefore, give up insolence and anger. O brave one! Make peace with the Pāṇḍava-s. O king! Abandon your wrath.

हे गांधारी पुत्र! अत: उद्दंडता और क्रोध का त्याग करें। हे वीर! पांडवों के साथ शांति बनाओ। हे राजा! अपना क्रोध त्यागें.

ददाति यत्पार्थिव यत्करोति; यद्वा तपस्तप्यति यज्जुहोति न तस्य नाशोऽस्ति न चापकर्षो; नान्यस्तदश्नाति स एव कर्ता

O king! Whatever is given, whatever is done, whatever austerities are observed, whatever sacrifices are performed—these are never destroyed. They do not diminish. No one other than the doer enjoys these.

हे राजा! जो कुछ दिया जाता है, जो कुछ किया जाता है, जो भी तपस्या की जाती है, जो भी यज्ञ किये जाते हैं - वे कभी नष्ट नहीं होते। वे कम नहीं होते. कर्ता के अतिरिक्त अन्य कोई इनका उपभोग नहीं करता।

इदं महाख्यानमनुत्तमं मतं; बहुश्रुतानां गतरोषरागिणाम् समीक्ष्य लोके बहुधा प्रधाविता; त्रिवर्गदृष्टिः पृथिवीमुपाश्नुते

This great and supreme account is revered by those who are extremely learned and are without hatred. In this world, those who examine it and study it in great detail, learn about the three objectives and conquer the earth.

यह महान और सर्वोच्च वृत्तांत उन लोगों द्वारा पूजनीय है जो अत्यंत विद्वान हैं और घृणा रहित हैं। इस संसार में, जो लोग इसकी जांच करते हैं और इसका विस्तार से अध्ययन करते हैं, वे तीन उद्देश्यों के बारे में सीखते हैं और पृथ्वी पर विजय प्राप्त करते हैं।
