संजय उवाच प्रभातायां तु शर्वर्यां पुनरेव सुतस्तव मध्ये सर्वस्य सैन्यस्य पितामहमपृच्छत

Sañjaya said: "When the night had passed and it was morning, in the midst of the entire army, your son again asked the grandfather.

संजय ने कहा, "जब रात बीत गई और सुबह हुई, तो आपके बेटे ने पूरी सेना के बीच में फिर से दादाजी से पूछा।

पाण्डवेयस्य गाङ्गेय यदेतत्सैन्यमुत्तमम् प्रभूतनरनागाश्वं महारथसमाकुलम्

O Gāṅgeya! The supreme army of the Pāṇḍaveya-s has many men, elephants and horses and is full of many mahāratha-s.

हे गांगेय! पाण्डवों की सर्वोच्च सेना में बहुत से आदमी, हाथी और घोड़े हैं और वह बहुत से महारथियों से भरी हुई है।

भीमार्जुनप्रभृतिभिर्महेष्वासैर्महाबलैः लोकपालोपमैर्गुप्तं धृष्टद्युम्नपुरोगमैः

It is protected by immensely strong and great archers, Bhīmā, Arjuna and the others, with Dhṛṣṭadyumna at the forefront. It is as if it is protected by the guardians of the world themselves.

यह अत्यधिक शक्तिशाली और महान धनुर्धरों, भीम, अर्जुन और अन्य द्वारा संरक्षित है, जिसमें सबसे आगे धृष्टद्युम्न है। ऐसा लगता है मानों इसकी रक्षा स्वयं जगत के रखवालों ने की हो।

अप्रधृष्यमनावार्यमुद्वृत्तमिव सागरम् सेनासागरमक्षोभ्यमपि देवैर्महाहवे

It is unassailable. It is as unstoppable as a raging ocean. In a great battle, this ocean of soldiers cannot be ruffled even by the gods.

यह अजेय है. यह उफनते सागर की तरह अजेय है। किसी महान युद्ध में सैनिकों के इस समुद्र को देवता भी हिला नहीं सकते।

केन कालेन गाङ्गेय क्षपयेथा महाद्युते आचार्यो वा महेष्वासः कृपो वा सुमहाबलः

O Gāṅgeya! O immensely radiant one! By what time will you be able to destroy it, or the great archer the preceptor, or the immensely strong Kṛpa?

हे गांगेय! हे अत्यंत तेजस्वी! कब तक आप इसे, या महान धनुर्धर गुरु को, या अत्यंत शक्तिशाली कृप को, नष्ट कर पाएंगे?

कर्णो वा समरश्लाघी द्रौणिर्वा द्विजसत्तमः दिव्यास्त्रविदुषः सर्वे भवन्तो हि बले मम

Or Karṇa, who prides himself in war, or Droṇa's son, supreme among brāhmana-s? All of you in my army are knowledgeable about the use of divine weapons.

या कर्ण, जो युद्ध पर गर्व करता है, या द्रोण का पुत्र, ब्राह्मणों में श्रेष्ठ? मेरी सेना में आप सभी लोग दिव्य अस्त्र-शस्त्रों के प्रयोग के जानकार हैं।

एतदिच्छाम्यहं ज्ञातुं परं कौतूहलं हि मे हृदि नित्यं महाबाहो वक्तुमर्हसि तन्मम

Therefore, I wish to know this. I have always had a supreme curiosity in my heart about this. O mighty-armed one! Tell me about this."

इसलिए मैं ये जानना चाहता हूं. इसको लेकर मेरे हृदय में सदैव एक परम जिज्ञासा रही है। हे महाबाहु! मुझे इस बारे में बताओ।”

भीष्म उवाच अनुरूपं कुरुश्रेष्ठ त्वय्येतत्पृथिवीपते बलाबलममित्राणां स्वेषां च यदि पृच्छसि

Bhīṣma replied: "O foremost among the Kuru-s! O lord of the earth! This is indeed worthy of you, that you should ask about the strengths and weaknesses of the enemy and about your own side.

भीष्म ने उत्तर दिया: "हे कुरु-श्रेष्ठ! हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! यह वास्तव में आपके योग्य है, कि आपको शत्रु की शक्तियों और कमजोरियों के बारे में और अपने पक्ष के बारे में पूछना चाहिए।

शृणु राजन्मम रणे या शक्तिः परमा भवेत् अस्त्रवीर्यं रणे यच्च भुजयोश्च महाभुज

O king! O mighty-armed one! Hear about the limits of my strength in battle, the limits of my weapons and the valour of my arms in battle.

हे राजा! हे महाबाहु! युद्ध में मेरी शक्ति की सीमा, मेरे हथियारों की सीमा और युद्ध में मेरी भुजाओं की वीरता के विषय में सुनो।

आर्जवेनैव युद्धेन योद्धव्य इतरो जनः मायायुद्धेन मायावी इत्येतद्धर्मनिश्चयः

In battle, an ordinary man must be fought without deceit. Those who know māyā must be fought with māyā. That is the determination of dharma.

युद्ध में एक साधारण मनुष्य को बिना छल के लड़ना चाहिए। जो लोग माया को जानते हैं उन्हें माया से लड़ना चाहिए। यही धर्म का निश्चय है।

हन्यामहं महाबाहो पाण्डवानामनीकिनीम् दिवसे दिवसे कृत्वा भागं प्रागाह्निकं मम

O mighty-armed one! O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! In this fashion, I can kill the soldiers of the Pāṇḍava-s. Let me divide the days, taking the forenoon of each day as my share.

हे महाबाहु! हे भरत वंश के वंशज! इस तरह, मैं पांडवों के सैनिकों को मार सकता हूं। मैं प्रत्येक दिन के पूर्वाह्न को अपना हिस्सा मानकर दिनों को विभाजित कर दूं।

योधानां दशसाहस्रं कृत्वा भागं महाद्युते सहस्रं रथिनामेकमेष भागो मतो मम

O immensely radiant one! I think that I can take ten thousand warriors as my share. It is my view that I can take one thousand rāṭha-s as my share.

हे अत्यंत तेजस्वी! मेरा विचार है कि मैं दस हजार योद्धाओं को अपने हिस्से में ले सकता हूँ। मेरा विचार है कि मैं अपने हिस्से के रूप में एक हजार रथ ले सकता हूं।

अनेनाहं विधानेन संनद्धः सततोत्थितः क्षपयेयं महत्सैन्यं कालेनानेन भारत

In this way, always armoured and always ready, I can destroy this great army over a certain period of time.

इस तरह, हमेशा बख्तरबंद और हमेशा तैयार रहकर, मैं एक निश्चित अवधि में इस महान सेना को नष्ट कर सकता हूं।

यदि त्वस्त्राणि मुञ्चेयं महान्ति समरे स्थितः शतसाहस्रघातीनि हन्यां मासेन भारत

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! If I am stationed in battle and unleash my great weapons, which are capable of killing hundreds and thousands, I can kill them in one month."

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! यदि मैं युद्ध में तैनात रहूं और अपने महान हथियारों का इस्तेमाल करूं, जो सैकड़ों और हजारों लोगों को मारने में सक्षम हैं, तो मैं उन्हें एक महीने में मार सकता हूं।"

संजय उवाच श्रुत्वा भीष्मस्य तद्वाक्यं राजा दुर्योधनस्तदा पर्यपृच्छत राजेन्द्र द्रोणमङ्गिरसां वरम्

Sañjaya said: "O Indra among kings! On hearing Bhīṣma's words, King Duryodhana then asked Droṇa, supreme among the Aṅgiras lineage.

संजय ने कहा: "हे राजाओं में इंद्र! भीष्म के शब्दों को सुनकर, राजा दुर्योधन ने अंगिरस वंश में सर्वश्रेष्ठ द्रोण से पूछा।

आचार्य केन कालेन पाण्डुपुत्रस्य सैनिकान् निहन्या इति तं द्रोणः प्रत्युवाच हसन्निव

"O preceptor! In how muc time can you slay the soldiers of the sons of Pāṇḍu?" Droṇa smiled and replied,

"हे गुरु! आप पाण्डु के पुत्रों के सैनिकों को कितने समय में मार सकते हैं?" द्रोण ने मुस्कुराते हुए उत्तर दिया,

स्थविरोऽस्मि कुरुश्रेष्ठ मन्दप्राणविचेष्टितः अस्त्राग्निना निर्दहेयं पाण्डवानामनीकिनीम्

"O best of the Kuru-s! I am aged. My energy and strength are weak. It is my view that with the fire of my weapons, I can consume the army of the Pāṇḍava-s

"हे कुरुश्रेष्ठ! मैं वृद्ध हो गया हूं। मेरी ऊर्जा और शक्ति कमजोर हैं। मेरा मानना ​​है कि मैं अपने हथियारों की आग से पांडवों की सेना को भस्म कर सकता हूं।"

यथा भीष्मः शांतनवो मासेनेति मतिर्मम एषा मे परमा शक्तिरेतन्मे परमं बलम्

in one month, just like Bhīṣma, Śāntanu's son. That is the limit of my power and strength."

एक महीने में, शांतनु के पुत्र भीष्म की तरह। यही मेरी शक्ति और ताकत की सीमा है।"

द्वाभ्यामेव तु मासाभ्यां कृपः शारद्वतोऽब्रवीत् द्रौणिस्तु दशरात्रेण प्रतिजज्ञे बलक्षयम् कर्णस्तु पञ्चरात्रेण प्रतिजज्ञे महास्त्रवित्

Kṛpa Śāradvata said two months and Droṇa's son promised the destruction of the army in ten nights. But Karṇa, skilled in the use of great weapons, promised it in five nights.

कृपाशारद्वत ने दो महीने कहा और द्रोण के पुत्र ने दस रातों में सेना को नष्ट करने का वादा किया। लेकिन महान हथियारों के इस्तेमाल में कुशल कर्ण ने इसे पांच रातों में देने का वादा किया।

तच्छ्रुत्वा सूतपुत्रस्य वाक्यं सागरगासुतः जहास सस्वनं हासं वाक्यं चेदमुवाच ह

When the son of the one who heads to the ocean heard the words of the sūta's son, he laughed out aloud and spoke these words.

जब समुद्र की ओर जाने वाले के पुत्र ने सूतपुत्र के वचन सुने तो वह जोर से हंसा और उसने ये वचन कहे।

न हि तावद्रणे पार्थं बाणखड्गधनुर्धरम् वासुदेवसमायुक्तं रथेनोद्यन्तमच्युतम्

"As long as you have not encountered Pārtha in battle, wielding arrows, a sword and a bow, with Acyuta Vāsudeva steering the chariot,

"जब तक तुमने युद्ध में तीर, तलवार और धनुषधारी पार्थ का सामना नहीं किया है और अच्युता वासुदेव रथ चला रहे हैं,

समागच्छसि राधेय तेनैवमभिमन्यसे शक्यमेवं च भूयश्च त्वया वक्तुं यथेष्टतः

till that time you can think in this way. O Rādheya! You are capable of speaking a lot and saying anything that you want."

उस समय तक आप इस प्रकार सोच सकते हैं। हे राधेय! आप बहुत कुछ बोलने और जो चाहें कुछ भी कहने में सक्षम हैं।”
