संजय उवाच एवमेतन्महाराज यथा वदसि भारत युद्धे विनाशः क्षत्रस्य गाण्डीवेन प्रदृश्यते

Sañjaya said: "O great king! O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! It is exactly as you have said. It can be seen that Gāṇḍīva will destroy the kṣatriya-s in battle. You have always been wise.

संजय ने कहा: "हे महान राजा! हे भरत वंश के वंशज! यह बिल्कुल वैसा ही है जैसा आपने कहा था। यह देखा जा सकता है कि गांडीव युद्ध में क्षत्रियों को नष्ट कर देगा। आप हमेशा बुद्धिमान रहे हैं।"

इदं तु नाभिजानामि तव धीरस्य नित्यशः यत्पुत्रवशमागच्छेः सत्त्वज्ञः सव्यसाचिनः

But I do not know how, despite knowing the spirit of Savyasachi, you have allowed yourself to be controlled by your sons.

लेकिन मुझे नहीं पता कि सव्यसाची की भावना को जानने के बावजूद, आपने खुद को अपने बेटों द्वारा नियंत्रित होने की अनुमति कैसे दी है।

नैष कालो महाराज तव शश्वत्कृतागसः त्वया ह्येवादितः पार्था निकृता भरतर्षभ

O great king! There is no time now. O bull among the Bhārata lineage! Right from the beginning, you yourself have always maltreated the Pārtha-s.

हे महान राजा! अब समय नहीं है. हे भरत वंश में बैल! प्रारंभ से ही, आपने स्वयं पार्थ-स के साथ सदैव दुर्व्यवहार किया है।

पिता श्रेष्ठः सुहृद्यश्च सम्यक्प्रणिहितात्मवान् आस्थेयं हि हितं तेन न द्रोग्धा गुरुरुच्यते

A father who guides with his heart is always the best well-wisher. He should practise what is beneficial. One who disregards this cannot be called a superior.

एक पिता जो दिल से मार्गदर्शन करता है वह हमेशा सबसे अच्छा शुभचिंतक होता है। उसे वही अभ्यास करना चाहिए जो लाभकारी हो। इसकी अवहेलना करने वाले को श्रेष्ठ नहीं कहा जा सकता।

इदं जितमिदं लब्धमिति श्रुत्वा पराजितान् द्यूतकाले महाराज स्मयसे स्म कुमारवत्

O great king! When you heard that they had been defeated at the game of dice, you laughed like a child and exclaimed, "We have won! We have gained!"

हे महान राजा! जब तुमने सुना कि वे पासे के खेल में हार गए हैं, तो तुम बच्चों की तरह हँसे और कहा, "हम जीत गए! हमने जीत लिया!"

परुषाण्युच्यमानान्स्म पुरा पार्थानुपेक्षसे कृत्स्नं राज्यं जयन्तीति प्रपातं नानुपश्यसि

When harsh words were addressed towards the Pārtha-s earlier, you ignored them. Though you knew that they had conquered the kingdom for themselves, you did not foresee your own downfall.

जब पहले पार्थों के प्रति कठोर वचन कहे गये थे, तब आपने उनकी उपेक्षा कर दी थी। यद्यपि आप जानते थे कि उन्होंने राज्य अपने लिए जीत लिया है, फिर भी आपने अपने पतन की कल्पना नहीं की थी।

पित्र्यं राज्यं महाराज कुरवस्ते सजाङ्गलाः अथ वीरैर्जितां भूमिमखिलां प्रत्यपद्यथाः

O great king! Only the ancestral kingdom and Kurujāṅgala are yours. It was only later that you obtained the entire earth, when those brave ones conquered it.

हे महान राजा! केवल पैतृक राज्य और कुरुजांगल ही आपके हैं। बाद में ही उन शूरवीरों ने सारी पृथ्वी पर विजय प्राप्त की।

बाहुवीर्यार्जिता भूमिस्तव पार्थैर्निवेदिता मयेदं कृतमित्येव मन्यसे राजसत्तम

The Pārtha-s won the earth with the valour of their arms and handed it over to you. O supreme among kings! But you think that you obtained it yourself.

पार्थों ने अपनी भुजाओं के पराक्रम से पृथ्वी को जीतकर आपको सौंप दिया। हे राजाओं में श्रेष्ठ! लेकिन आप सोचते हैं कि आपने इसे स्वयं प्राप्त किया है।

ग्रस्तान्गन्धर्वराजेन मज्जतो ह्यप्लवेऽम्भसि आनिनाय पुनः पार्थः पुत्रांस्ते राजसत्तम

O supreme among kings! When your sons were grasped by the king of the gāndharva-s and were drowning in a sea without bows, it was the Pārtha-s who brought them back.

हे राजाओं में श्रेष्ठ! जब आपके पुत्रों को गन्धर्वों के राजा ने पकड़ लिया था और वे बिना धनुष के समुद्र में डूब रहे थे, तो पार्थ ही थे जिन्होंने उन्हें वापस लाया।

कुमारवच्च स्मयसे द्यूते विनिकृतेषु यत् पाण्डवेषु वनं राजन्प्रव्रजत्सु पुनः पुनः

O king! You laughed like a child when the Pāṇḍava-s were deceitfully defeated in the game of dice and had to repeatedly roam around in the forest.

हे राजा! जब पांडव पासे के खेल में धोखे से हार गए और उन्हें बार-बार जंगल में घूमना पड़ा तो आप एक बच्चे की तरह हँसे।

प्रवर्षतः शरव्रातानर्जुनस्य शितान्बहून् अप्यर्णवा विशुष्येयुः किं पुनर्मांसयोनयः

When Arjuna showers his many sharp arrows, even the oceans dry up, not to speak of those who are born from flesh. Phālguna is the best among archers.

जब अर्जुन अपने अनेक तीक्ष्ण बाणों की वर्षा करता है, तो समुद्र भी सूख जाते हैं, मांस से जन्मे लोगों की तो बात ही छोड़ो। फाल्गुन धनुर्धरों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ हैं।

अस्यतां फल्गुनः श्रेष्ठो गाण्डीवं धनुषां वरम् केशवः सर्वभूतानां चक्राणां च सुदर्शनम्

Gāṇḍīva is supreme among bows, Keśava among all beings, Sudarśanā among all cakra-s.

गाण्डीव धनुषों में सर्वोच्च है, केशव सभी प्राणियों में, सुदर्शन सभी चक्रों में सर्वोच्च है।

वानरो रोचमानश्च केतुः केतुमतां वरः एवमेतानि सरथो वहञ्श्वेतहयो रणे क्षपयिष्यति नो राजन्कालचक्रमिवोद्यतम्

Among all standards, the standard that bears the monkey is supreme. The one with the white steeds will bear these on his chariot in the field of battle and destroy us. O king! He will fling us away, like the upraised wheel of time.

सभी मानकों में बंदर धारण करने वाला मानक सर्वोच्च है। वह श्वेत घोड़ों को युद्ध के मैदान में अपने रथ पर ले जाएगा और हमें नष्ट कर देगा। हे राजा! वह हमें समय के उठे हुए पहिये की तरह उड़ा ले जाएगा।

तस्याद्य वसुधा राजन्निखिला भरतर्षभ यस्य भीमार्जुनौ योधौ स राजा राजसत्तम

O king! O bull among the Bhārata lineage! The entire earth now belongs to him. O supreme among kings! He who has Bhīmā and Arjuna as his warriors, is the king.

हे राजा! हे भरत वंश में बैल! अब सारी पृथ्वी उसकी है। हे राजाओं में श्रेष्ठ! जिसके योद्धा भीम और अर्जुन हैं, वही राजा है।

तथा भीमहतप्रायां मज्जन्तीं तव वाहिनीम् दुर्योधनमुखा दृष्ट्वा क्षयं यास्यन्ति कौरवाः

Attacked by Bhīmā, your army will be almost submerged. With Duryodhana at the forefront, the Kaurava-s will see this and confront destruction.

भीम के आक्रमण से आपकी सेना लगभग जलमग्न हो जायेगी। दुर्योधन के अग्रभाग में होने पर, कौरव इसे देखेंगे और विनाश का सामना करेंगे।

न हि भीमभयाद्भीता लप्स्यन्ते विजयं विभो तव पुत्रा महाराज राजानश्चानुसारिणः

O great king! Your sons, and the kings who follow them, will be oppressed by fear of Bhīmā. O lord! They will not be victorious.

हे महान राजा! आपके पुत्र तथा उनके अनुयायी राजा भीम के भय से पीड़ित होंगे। हे भगवान! वे विजयी नहीं होंगे.

मत्स्यास्त्वामद्य नार्चन्ति पाञ्चालाश्च सकेकयाः शाल्वेयाः शूरसेनाश्च सर्वे त्वामवजानते पार्थं ह्येते गताः सर्वे वीर्यज्ञास्तस्य धीमतः

The Mātsya-s no longer revere you, nor do the Pāñcāla-s and the Kekaya-s. All the Śālveya-s and Śūrasena-s hate you and have gone over to the Pārtha-s, knowing the valour of that intelligent one.

मत्स्य लोग अब आपका आदर नहीं करते, न ही पंचाल और केकय लोग। सभी शाल्व्य और शूरसेन आपसे घृणा करते हैं और उस बुद्धिमान की वीरता को जानकर पार्थों के पास चले गए हैं।

अनर्हानेव तु वधे धर्मयुक्तान्विकर्मणा सर्वोपायैर्नियन्तव्यः सानुगः पापपूरुषः तव पुत्रो महाराज नात्र शोचितुमर्हसि

They are united with dharma and do not deserve to be killed or injured. That evil man, together with his followers, must be restrained in every way. O great king! You should not grieve over your son.

वे धर्म से जुड़े हुए हैं और मारे जाने या घायल होने के लायक नहीं हैं। उस दुष्ट मनुष्य को उसके अनुयायियों सहित हर प्रकार से रोका जाना चाहिए। हे महान राजा! तुम्हें अपने पुत्र के लिये शोक नहीं करना चाहिये।

द्यूतकाले मया चोक्तं विदुरेण च धीमता यदिदं ते विलपितं पाण्डवान्प्रति भारत अनीशेनेव राजेन्द्र सर्वमेतन्निरर्थकम्

At the time of the game with the dice, I told you, and so did the intelligent Vidūra. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! O Indra among kings! All your lamentations about the Pāṇḍava-s, as if you are incapable, are pointless."

पासों से खेल के समय, मैंने तुम्हें बताया था और बुद्धिमान विदुर ने भी यही कहा था। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! हे राजाओं में इन्द्र! पांडवों के बारे में आपके सभी विलाप, जैसे कि आप असमर्थ हैं, व्यर्थ हैं।"
