भीष्म उवाच शकुनिर्मातुलस्तेऽसौ रथ एको नराधिप प्रसज्य पाण्डवैर्वैरं योत्स्यते नात्र संशयः

Bhīṣma said: "O lord of men! Your maternal uncle Śākuni is equal to a single rāṭha. There is no doubt that he has brought about this enmity with the Pāṇḍava-s and will fight.

भीष्म ने कहा: "हे देवराज! आपके मामा शकुनि एक रथ के बराबर हैं। इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि उन्होंने पांडवों के साथ यह शत्रुता की है और लड़ेंगे।

एतस्य सैन्या दुर्धर्षाः समरेऽप्रतियायिनः विकृतायुधभूयिष्ठा वायुवेगसमा जवे

His unassailable soldiers do not retreat from the field of battle. They carry many kinds of strange weapons and possess the speed of the wind.

उसके अजेय सैनिक युद्ध क्षेत्र से पीछे नहीं हटते। वे कई प्रकार के विचित्र हथियार रखते हैं और हवा की गति रखते हैं।

द्रोणपुत्रो महेष्वासः सर्वेषामति धन्विनाम् समरे चित्रयोधी च दृढास्त्रश्च महारथः

Droṇa's son is a great archer and is superior to all archers. He is colourful in the field of battle and is a mahāratha who is firm in wielding weapons.

द्रोण का पुत्र महान धनुर्धर है और सभी धनुर्धारियों से श्रेष्ठ है। वह युद्ध के मैदान में रंगीन है और हथियार चलाने में दृढ़ महारथ है।

एतस्य हि महाराज यथा गाण्डीवधन्वनः शरासनाद्विनिर्मुक्ताः संसक्ता यान्ति सायकाः

O great king! When released from his bow, his arrows are like those of the wielder of the Gāṇḍīva himself and are linked together in one continuous line.

हे महान राजा! धनुष से छूटने पर, उसके तीर स्वयं गाण्डीव के तीर के समान होते हैं और एक सतत पंक्ति में एक साथ जुड़े होते हैं।

नैष शक्यो मया वीरः संख्यातुं रथसत्तमः निर्दहेदपि लोकांस्त्रीनिच्छन्नेष महायशाः

But I cannot count this brave one in the list of supreme rāṭha-s, though this greatly famous one is capable of burning up the three worlds.

परंतु मैं इस वीर को परम रथों की सूची में नहीं गिन सकता, यद्यपि यह अत्यंत प्रसिद्ध रथ तीनों लोकों को जलाने में सक्षम है।

क्रोधस्तेजश्च तपसा संभृतोऽऽश्रमवासिना द्रोणेनानुगृहीतश्च दिव्यैरस्त्रैरुदारधीः

He has accumulated anger and energy through austerities, while he dwelled in a hermitage. And since he was generous, Droṇa bestowed celestial weapons on him.

उन्होंने आश्रम में रहते हुए तपस्या के माध्यम से क्रोध और ऊर्जा जमा की थी। और चूँकि वह उदार था, द्रोण ने उसे दिव्य हथियार प्रदान किये।

दोषस्त्वस्य महानेको येनैष भरतर्षभ न मे रथो नातिरथो मतः पार्थिवसत्तम

O bull among the Bhārata lineage! O supreme among kings! But he has a single great taint and because of that, I do not regard him as a rāṭha or an atirāṭha.

हे भरत वंश में बैल! हे राजाओं में श्रेष्ठ! परंतु उनमें एक बड़ा कलंक है और उसके कारण मैं उन्हें रथ या अतिरथ नहीं मानता।

जीवितं प्रियमत्यर्थमायुष्कामः सदा द्विजः न ह्यस्य सदृशः कश्चिदुभयोः सेनयोरपि

He loves his own life too muc. This brāhmaṇa always wishes for a long life. There is no one who is equal to him in either army.

उसे अपनी जिंदगी बहुत प्यारी है. यह ब्राह्मण सदैव दीर्घायु की कामना करता है। दोनों सेनाओं में उसके बराबर का कोई नहीं है।

हन्यादेकरथेनैव देवानामपि वाहिनीम् वपुष्मांस्तलघोषेण स्फोटयेदपि पर्वतान्

On a single chariot, he is capable of slaying even the army of the gods. Through the slapping of his arms, this handsome one can cause mountains to be shattered.

वह एक ही रथ पर सवार होकर देवताओं की सेना को भी मारने में सक्षम है। अपनी भुजाओं की थाप से, यह सुंदर व्यक्ति पहाड़ों को चकनाचूर कर सकता है।

असंख्येयगुणो वीरः प्रहर्ता दारुणद्युतिः दण्डपाणिरिवासह्यः कालवत्प्रचरिष्यति

The brave one has an infinite number of qualities. He is a striker and his radiance is terrible. He roams around and cannot be tolerated. He is like the god of death, with a staff in his hand.

वीर में अनन्त गुण होते हैं। वह एक स्ट्राइकर है और उसकी चमक भयानक है. वह इधर-उधर घूमता रहता है और उसे बर्दाश्त नहीं किया जा सकता।' वह मृत्यु के देवता के समान है, जिसके हाथ में लाठी है।

युगान्ताग्निसमः क्रोधे सिंहग्रीवो महामतिः एष भारत युद्धस्य पृष्ठं संशमयिष्यति

He is greatly intelligent and has the neck of a lion. He is like the angry fire that rages at the end of an erā. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! He is capable of pacifying what is left of this war.

वह बहुत बुद्धिमान है और उसकी गर्दन शेर की तरह है। वह उस क्रोधित आग की तरह है जो एक युग के अंत में भड़क उठती है। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! वह इस युद्ध के बचे हुए हिस्से को शांत करने में सक्षम है।

पिता त्वस्य महातेजा वृद्धोऽपि युवभिर्वरः रणे कर्म महत्कर्ता तत्र मे नास्ति संशयः

His father is immensely energetic. Though he is aged, he is superior to those who are younger. I have no doubt that he will accomplish great deeds in the field of battle.

उनके पिता बेहद ऊर्जावान हैं। यद्यपि वह वृद्ध है, फिर भी वह युवाओं से श्रेष्ठ है। मुझे इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि वह युद्ध के मैदान में महान कार्य करेगा।

अस्त्रवेगानिलोद्धूतः सेनाकक्षेन्धनोत्थितः पाण्डुपुत्रस्य सैन्यानि प्रधक्ष्यति जये धृतः

A fire will be kindled from the force of his weapons and the soldiers will be like deadwood. This will burn down the soldiers of Pāṇḍu's sons, resolved as they are on victory.

उसके हथियारों के बल से आग भड़क उठेगी और सैनिक मृत लकड़ी के समान हो जायेंगे। इससे पाण्डु पुत्रों के सैनिक, जो विजय के लिये संकल्पित थे, जल जायेंगे।

रथयूथपयूथानां यूथपः स नरर्षभः भारद्वाजात्मजः कर्ता कर्म तीव्रं हिताय वः

This bull among men is a leader among all the leaders of rāṭha-s. He is the son of Bhāradvāja. For the sake of your welfare, he will be the performer of terrible deeds.

मनुष्यों में यह बैल रथों के सभी नेताओं में अग्रणी है। वह भारद्वाज के पुत्र हैं। वह तुम्हारे कल्याण के लिये भयंकर कर्म करने वाला होगा।

सर्वमूर्धाभिषिक्तानामाचार्यः स्थविरो गुरुः गच्छेदन्तं सृञ्जयानां प्रियस्त्वस्य धनंजयः

This aged preceptor is the teacher of all those who have been consecrated. He will bring about the end of the Sṛñjaya-s, but Dhanañjayā is his beloved.

यह वृद्ध गुरु उन सभी लोगों का शिक्षक है जिन्हें पवित्र किया गया है। वह सृंजय-स का अंत लाएगा, लेकिन धनंजय उसका प्रिय है।

नैष जातु महेष्वासः पार्थमक्लिष्टकारिणम् हन्यादाचार्यकं दीप्तं संस्मृत्य गुणनिर्जितम्

The great archer will never kill Pārtha, the performer of unsullied deeds. He will remember his role as a preceptor and the blazing qualities obtained by him and will never kill him.

महान धनुर्धर निष्कलंक कर्म करने वाले पार्थ को कभी नहीं मारेगा। वह एक उपदेशक के रूप में अपनी भूमिका और उसके द्वारा प्राप्त ज्वलंत गुणों को याद रखेगा और उसे कभी नहीं मारेगा।

श्लाघत्येष सदा वीरः पार्थस्य गुणविस्तरैः पुत्रादभ्यधिकं चैव भारद्वाजोऽनुपश्यति

The brave one has always praised Pārtha's many qualities. Bhāradvāja looks upon him as more than his own son.

वीर ने सदैव पार्थ के अनेक गुणों की प्रशंसा की है। भारद्वाज उसे अपने बेटे से भी बढ़कर मानते हैं।

हन्यादेकरथेनैव देवगन्धर्वदानवान् एकीभूतानपि रणे दिव्यैरस्त्रैः प्रतापवान्

On a single chariot, the powerful one can use his divine weapons to slay the gods, the gāndharva-s and the dānava-s, even when they are united in the field of battle.

एक ही रथ पर सवार होकर, शक्तिशाली व्यक्ति अपने दिव्य हथियारों का उपयोग देवताओं, गंधर्वों और दानवों को मारने के लिए कर सकता है, तब भी जब वे युद्ध के मैदान में एकजुट हों।

पौरवो राजशार्दूलस्तव राजन्महारथः मतो मम रथो वीर परवीररथारुजः

O king! I regard Paurava, tiger among kings, as a mahārāṭha. It is my view that he is a valiant rāṭha who can destroy the chariots of enemy heroes.

हे राजा! मैं राजाओं में बाघ पौरव को महारथ मानता हूँ। मेरा विचार है कि वह एक वीर रथ है जो शत्रु नायकों के रथों को नष्ट कर सकता है।

स्वेन सैन्येन सहितः प्रतपञ्शत्रुवाहिनीम् प्रधक्ष्यति स पाञ्चालान्कक्षं कृष्णगतिर्यथा

With his own large army, he will scorch the forces of the enemy. He will burn the Pāñcāla-s down, like the one with black trails burns deadwood.

वह अपनी विशाल सेना से शत्रु की सेना को झुलसा देगा। वह पंचालों को जला देगा, जैसे काले निशान वाला व्यक्ति मृत लकड़ी को जला देता है।

सत्यव्रतो रथवरो राजपुत्रो महारथः तव राजन्रिपुबले कालवत्प्रचरिष्यति

The prince Satyavrata is supreme among rāṭha-s and is a mahāratha. O king! He will stride amidst the enemy's forces, like time.

राजकुमार सत्यव्रत रथों में सर्वोच्च हैं और महारथ हैं। हे राजा! वह शत्रु की सेनाओं के बीच में समय की भाँति आगे बढ़ेगा।

एतस्य योधा राजेन्द्र विचित्रकवचायुधाः विचरिष्यन्ति संग्रामे निघ्नन्तः शात्रवांस्तव

O Indra among kings! His warriors will roam around, in diverse armour and weapons. They will roam around in battle, destroying your enemies.

हे राजाओं में इन्द्र! उसके योद्धा विविध कवच और हथियार लेकर चारों ओर घूमेंगे। वे युद्ध में घूम-घूम कर तुम्हारे शत्रुओं का नाश करेंगे।

वृषसेनो रथाग्र्यस्ते कर्णपुत्रो महारथः प्रधक्ष्यति रिपूणां ते बलानि बलिनां वरः

Karṇa's son, Vṛṣasena, is foremost among rāṭha and is a maharāṭha. He is supremely strong among strong ones and will destroy the forces of the enemy.

कर्ण का पुत्र वृषसेन, रथों में अग्रणी है और एक मराठा है। वह बलवानों में परम बलशाली है और शत्रु की सेना को नष्ट कर देगा।

जलसंधो महातेजा राजन्रथवरस्तव त्यक्ष्यते समरे प्राणान्मागधः परवीरहा

O king! Jalasandha of Māgadha is one of your supreme rāṭha-s and is greatly energetic. He is the destroyer of enemy heroes and will lay down his life in battle.

हे राजा! मगध का जलसंध आपके सर्वोच्च रथों में से एक है और अत्यधिक ऊर्जावान है। वह शत्रु वीरों का नाश करने वाला है और युद्ध में अपने प्राणों की आहुति देगा।

एष योत्स्यति संग्रामे गजस्कन्धविशारदः रथेन वा महाबाहुः क्षपयञ्शत्रुवाहिनीम्

He is skilled in riding on the shoulders of elephants and will fight in the battle. Or the mighty-armed one will fight from chariots and will destroy the forces of the enemy.

वह हाथियों के कंधों पर सवार होने में कुशल है और युद्ध में लड़ेगा। अथवा वह महाबाहु रथों पर चढ़कर युद्ध करेगा और शत्रु की सेना को नष्ट कर देगा।

रथ एष महाराज मतो मम नरर्षभः त्वदर्थे त्यक्ष्यति प्राणान्सह सैन्यो महारणे

O great king! It is my view that this bull among men is a rāṭha. For your sake, he will lay down his life, and that of his soldiers, in the great battle.

हे महान राजा! मेरा विचार है कि मनुष्यों में यह बैल रथ है। आपकी खातिर, वह महान युद्ध में अपना और अपने सैनिकों का जीवन बलिदान कर देगा।

एष विक्रान्तयोधी च चित्रयोधी च संगरे वीतभीश्चापि ते राजञ्शात्रवैः सह योत्स्यते

He is a valiant warrior and is colourful in battle. O king! He will cast aside his fear and fight with the enemies.

वह एक बहादुर योद्धा है और युद्ध में रंगीन है। हे राजा! वह अपने भय को त्यागकर शत्रुओं से युद्ध करेगा।

बाह्लीकोऽतिरथश्चैव समरे चानिवर्तिता मम राजन्मतो युद्धे शूरो वैवस्वतोपमः

O king! It is my view that Bahlika, who cannot be restrained in battle, is an atiratha. The brave one is like Vaivasvata's equal in battle.

हे राजा! मेरा विचार है कि बहलिका, जिसे युद्ध में रोका नहीं जा सकता, अतिरथ है। वीर युद्ध में वैवस्वत के समान होता है।

न ह्येष समरं प्राप्य निवर्तेत कथंचन यथा सततगो राजन्नाभिहत्य परान्रणे

He will never retreat from the field of battle. O king! Like a storm, he will always attack the enemy in battle.

वह युद्ध के मैदान से कभी पीछे नहीं हटेगा। हे राजा! वह तूफ़ान की भाँति युद्ध में सदैव शत्रु पर आक्रमण करेगा।

सेनापतिर्महाराज सत्यवांस्ते महारथः रणेष्वद्भुतकर्मा च रथः पररथारुजः

O great king! The general Satyavat is a mahāratha. He is a charioteer who performs extraordinary feats in war and destroys the chariots of enemies.

हे महान राजा! सेनापति सत्यवत महारथी हैं। वह एक सारथी है जो युद्ध में असाधारण पराक्रम करता है और शत्रुओं के रथों को नष्ट कर देता है।

एतस्य समरं दृष्ट्वा न व्यथास्ति कथंचन उत्स्मयन्नभ्युपैत्येष परान्रथपथे स्थितान्

He will never be seen to be distressed at the prospect of battle. He will astound the enemy who are arrayed in the path of his chariot.

युद्ध की आशंका से उसे कभी भी व्यथित होते नहीं देखा जाएगा। वह अपने रथ के मार्ग में पंक्तिबद्ध शत्रुओं को चकित कर देगा।

एष चारिषु विक्रान्तः कर्म सत्पुरुषोचितम् कर्ता विमर्दे सुमहत्त्वदर्थे पुरुषोत्तमः

The virtuous one will perform valiant deeds. That supreme man will be the performer of extremely great exploits in your cause.

धर्मात्मा व्यक्ति वीरतापूर्ण कार्य करेगा। वह परम पुरुष आपके हित में अत्यंत महान पराक्रम करने वाला होगा।

अलायुधो राक्षसेन्द्रः क्रूरकर्मा महाबलः हनिष्यति परान्राजन्पूर्ववैरमनुस्मरन्

Alāyudha is an Indra among rākṣasa-s. He is the performer of cruel deeds and is extremely strong. O king! He will remember his earlier enmity and kill the enemy.

अलायुध राक्षसों में इंद्र हैं। वह क्रूर कर्म करने वाला और अत्यंत बलशाली है। हे राजा! वह अपनी पिछली शत्रुता को याद करेगा और शत्रु को मार डालेगा।

एष राक्षससैन्यानां सर्वेषां रथसत्तमः मायावी दृढवैरश्च समरे विचरिष्यति

He is the supreme rāṭha among all the soldiers of the rākṣasa-s. He possesses the powers of māyā and, firm in his enmity, will roam around in battle.

वह राक्षसों के सभी सैनिकों में सर्वोच्च रथ है। उसके पास माया की शक्तियां हैं और वह अपनी शत्रुता पर दृढ़ होकर युद्ध में घूमता रहेगा।

प्राग्ज्योतिषाधिपो वीरो भगदत्तः प्रतापवान् गजाङ्कुशधरश्रेष्ठो रथे चैव विशारदः

The brave and powerful Bhagadatta is from Prāgjyotiṣa. He is a skilled rāṭha and is foremost among those who wield a goad on an elephant.

बहादुर और शक्तिशाली भगदत्त प्रागज्योतिष से हैं। वह एक कुशल रथ है और हाथी पर अंकुश लगाने वालों में अग्रणी है।

एतेन युद्धमभवत्पुरा गाण्डीवधन्वनः दिवसान्सुबहून्राजन्नुभयोर्जयगृद्धिनोः

In earlier times, there was a war between him and the wielder of the Gāṇḍīva. O king! That lasted over many days and each desired to be victorious over the other.

पहले के समय में, उनके और गाण्डीव के धारक के बीच युद्ध हुआ था। हे राजा! यह कई दिनों तक चला और प्रत्येक ने दूसरे पर विजयी होने की इच्छा की।

ततः सखायं गान्धारे मानयन्पाकशासनम् अकरोत्संविदं तेन पाण्डवेन महात्मना

O Gāndhārī's son! Subsequently, because of his friendship with the chastiser of Pāka, he concluded an alliance with the great-souled Pāṇḍava.

हे गांधारी पुत्र! इसके बाद, पाक को दंडित करने वाले के साथ अपनी मित्रता के कारण, उसने महान आत्मा वाले पांडव के साथ गठबंधन किया।

एष योत्स्यति संग्रामे गजस्कन्धविशारदः ऐरावतगतो राजा देवानामिव वासवः

This king is skilled in fighting from the shoulders of elephants and he will fight in this war, like Vāsava, king of the gods, on Airāvata."

यह राजा हाथियों के कंधों से लड़ने में कुशल है और वह ऐरावत पर देवताओं के राजा वासव की तरह इस युद्ध में लड़ेगा।"
