Dritarashtra said: "O Sañjaya! They have said that the sons of Pāṇḍu have reached Upaplavya. Go there and show homage to Ajātaśatru and tell the unblemished one that it is fortunate that they have stationed themselves in that village.
धृतराष्ट्र ने कहा: "हे संजय! उन्होंने कहा है कि पांडु के पुत्र उपप्लव्य तक पहुंच गए हैं। वहां जाओ और अजातशत्रु को श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित करो और बेदाग को बताओ कि यह सौभाग्य की बात है कि वे उस गांव में तैनात हैं।
O Sañjaya! Honour them all, in words of conciliation. Say that they did not deserve the difficulties of dwelling in exile. Say they will soon be at peace with us. Though they have been falsely acted against, they retain affectionate feelings towards us.
हे संजय! सौहार्दपूर्ण शब्दों में उन सभी का सम्मान करें। कहें कि वे निर्वासन में रहने की कठिनाइयों के लायक नहीं थे। कहें कि वे जल्द ही हमारे साथ शांति से रहेंगे। यद्यपि उनके विरुद्ध गलत कार्य किया गया है, फिर भी वे हमारे प्रति स्नेहपूर्ण भावना रखते हैं।
O Sañjaya! I have never seen any kind of falsehood on the part of the Pāṇḍava-s. Having obtained all the riches through their own valour, the Pāṇḍava-s offered them to me.
हे संजय! मैंने पांडवों की ओर से कभी किसी प्रकार का झूठ नहीं देखा। पाण्डवों ने अपने पराक्रम से सारी सम्पत्ति प्राप्त करके मुझे अर्पित कर दी।
Having scrutinized the Pārtha-s for misdemeanours, I have never been able to find any sin in them. They have always performed tasks for dharma and artha, and not in pursuit of happiness, pleasure or desire.
पार्थों के दुष्कर्मों की जाँच करने पर भी मैं उनमें कोई पाप नहीं पा सका। उन्होंने हमेशा धर्म और अर्थ के लिए कार्य किया है, न कि खुशी, आनंद या इच्छा की प्राप्ति के लिए।
They have endured hot and cold, and hunger and thirst. They have controlled sleep, lassitude, anger and delight. They have overcome delusion with fortitude and wisdom. The Pārtha-s have sought to obtain dharma and artha.
उन्होंने सर्दी-गर्मी, भूख-प्यास सहन की है। उन्होंने निद्रा, आलस्य, क्रोध और प्रसन्नता पर नियंत्रण कर लिया है। उन्होंने धैर्य और बुद्धि से भ्रम पर विजय पा ली है। पार्थ-स ने धर्म और अर्थ प्राप्त करने की कोशिश की है।

When the time is right, they have given away riches to their friends. Even living together for a long time does not diminish their friendship. The Pārtha-s honour with homage and riches those to whom these are due. In Ājamīḍha's lineage, there is no one who hates the Pārtha-s,
जब सही समय आया, तो उन्होंने अपने दोस्तों को धन दे दिया। लंबे समय तक साथ रहने पर भी उनकी दोस्ती कम नहीं होती. पार्थ उन लोगों का आदर-सत्कार और धन-सम्पत्ति से आदर करते हैं, जिनके ये पात्र हैं। अजमीढ़ के वंश में, कोई भी ऐसा नहीं है जो पार्थ-एस से नफरत करता हो,
except that evil, hateful and evil-minded Duryodhana and the even more inferior Karṇa. Those two engendered anger in those great-souled ones, when they tried to reduce their pleasure and comfort.
सिवाय उस दुष्ट, घृणित और बुरी सोच वाले दुर्योधन और उससे भी अधिक हीन कर्ण को छोड़कर। उन दोनों ने उन महात्माओं में क्रोध उत्पन्न कर दिया, जब उन्होंने उनके सुख और आराम को कम करने का प्रयास किया।
Duryodhana is used to pleasures and because his valour has increased, he thinks that he is in the right. As long as the Pāṇḍava-s are alive, only a child can think that their share can be taken away.
दुर्योधन भोग-विलास का आदी है और चूँकि उसका पराक्रम बढ़ गया है, इसलिए वह सोचता है कि वह सही है। जब तक पांडव जीवित हैं, कोई बच्चा ही सोच सकता है कि उनका हिस्सा छीना जा सकता है।
Ajātaśatru's footsteps are followed by Arjuna, Keśava, Vṛkodara, Sātyaki, Mādrī's two sons and all the Sṛñjaya-s. It is better to give it to him than to fight.
अजातशत्रु के पदचिन्हों का अनुसरण अर्जुन, केशव, वृकोदर, सात्यकि, माद्री के दो पुत्र और सभी सृंजय-एस करते हैं। लड़ने से बेहतर है कि उसे दे दिया जाए।

Savyasachi, the wielder of the Gāṇḍīva, is capable of subjugating the earth alone on his chariot. The unassailable and great-souled Keśava Viṣṇu is the lord of the three worlds.
गाण्डीवधारी सव्यसाची अपने रथ पर अकेले ही पृथ्वी को अपने अधीन करने में सक्षम है। अजेय और महान आत्मा वाले केशव विष्णु तीनों लोकों के स्वामी हैं।
Which mortal man can stand before him? He is worthy of being honoured by all the gods. The shower of his arrows is like the roar of the clouds and they are as swift as locusts.
कौन नश्वर मनुष्य उसके सामने टिक सकेगा? वह सभी देवताओं द्वारा सम्मान किये जाने योग्य है। उसके बाणों की वर्षा बादलों की गर्जना के समान है और वे टिड्डियों के समान वेगवान हैं।
With a single chariot, the wielder of the Gāṇḍīva conquered the northern direction and the northern Kuru-s. Savyasachi robbed them of their riches and forced the soldiers to follow and pay tribute.

In Khāṇḍava, Savyasachi, the wielder of the Gāṇḍīva, defeated Indra and the gods. Phālguna rendered the offerings to the fire god and increased the honour and the fame of the Pāṇḍava-s.
खाण्डव में, गाण्डीव के रक्षक सव्यसाची ने इंद्र और देवताओं को हराया। फाल्गुन ने अग्नि देवता को प्रसाद प्रदान किया और पांडवों का सम्मान और प्रसिद्धि बढ़ाई।
There is no one who is Bhīmā's equal in wielding the club, or his equal in riding an elephant. It is said that he is Arjuna's equal on the chariot and he has the valour of ten thousand elephants in the strength of his arms.
ऐसा कोई नहीं है जो गदा चलाने में भीम के बराबर हो, या हाथी की सवारी में उसके बराबर हो। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि वह रथ पर अर्जुन के समकक्ष है और उसकी भुजाओं के बल में दस हजार हाथियों का पराक्रम है।
He is well trained, skilled and swift. As an enemy, he will swiftly burn down the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra. He is intolerant and powerful and even Vāsava will be unable to defeat him in battle.
वह अच्छी तरह से प्रशिक्षित, कुशल और तेज़ है। शत्रु के रूप में, वह तेजी से धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्रों को जला देगा। वह असहिष्णु और शक्तिशाली है और वासव भी उसे युद्ध में हराने में असमर्थ होगा।
Phālguna's brothers have been taught well. They are extremely intelligent and strong and their arms are swift. Like vultures destroying a flock of birds, the sons of Mādrī will not leave any remnants among the Kuru-s.
फाल्गुन के भाइयों को अच्छी शिक्षा दी गयी है। वे बेहद बुद्धिमान और ताकतवर हैं और उनकी भुजाएं तेज़ हैं। जैसे गिद्ध पक्षियों के झुण्ड को नष्ट कर देते हैं, उसी प्रकार माद्री के पुत्र कुरुवंश में कोई अवशेष नहीं छोड़ेंगे।
The swift Dhṛṣṭadyumna is in their midst and he is regarded as one of the Pāṇḍava-s. With his advisers, the joy of the Somaka-s has devoted his soul for the victory of the Panadavas.
वेगशाली धृष्टद्युम्न उनके बीच में हैं और उन्हें पांडवों में से एक माना जाता है। अपने सलाहकारों के साथ, सोमाक-स ने पांडवों की जीत के लिए अपनी आत्मा समर्पित कर दी है।

The aged Virāṭa, the lord of the Śālveya-s, is one with whom they have lived for a long time. He has opted for the Pāṇḍava-s, together with his sons. I have heard that he is devoted to Yudhiṣṭhira.
शाल्व्य-वंश के स्वामी, वृद्ध विराट, वह हैं जिनके साथ वे लंबे समय से रह रहे हैं। उन्होंने अपने पुत्रों सहित पांडवों को चुना है। मैंने सुना है कि वह युधिष्ठिर के प्रति समर्पित है।
The five brave and spirited brothers, who are great archers, have been barred from Kekaya. They desire to obtain the kingdom of Kekaya, and eager to fight, follow the Pārtha-s.

All the brave ones among the lords of the earth have been assembled for the sake of the Pāṇḍava-s. I have heard that these brave ones are devoted to him. With great affection, they have resorted to Dharmarāja.
पृथ्वी के राजाओं में से सभी शूरवीर पाण्डवों की खातिर इकट्ठे हुए हैं। मैंने सुना है कि ये वीर उनके प्रति समर्पित हैं। उन्होंने बड़े स्नेह से धर्मराज की शरण ली है।
There are warriors who dwell in the mountainous passes on earth. They are pure and have been born in noble lineages. There are valorous mleccha-s with many weapons. They have single-mindedly assembled for the sake of the Pāṇḍava-s.
ऐसे योद्धा हैं जो पृथ्वी पर पहाड़ी दर्रों में निवास करते हैं। वे पवित्र हैं और कुलीन वंश में पैदा हुए हैं। अनेक अस्त्र-शस्त्रों से युक्त वीर म्लेच्छ हैं। वे पांडवों की खातिर एकचित्त होकर एकत्र हुए हैं।
The limitless King Pāṇḍya is equal to Indra in battle. He is accompanied in battle by many warriors. He is valorous in this world and his energy cannot be countered. That great-souled one has arrived for the sake of the Pāṇḍava-s.
अनन्त राजा पाण्ड्य युद्ध में इन्द्र के समान हैं। युद्ध में उसके साथ कई योद्धा होते हैं। वह इस संसार में वीर है और उसकी ऊर्जा का मुकाबला नहीं किया जा सकता। वह महात्मा पाण्डवों के लिये आये हैं।
I have heard that Sātyaki learnt about weapons from Droṇa, Arjuna, Vāsudeva, Kṛpa and Bhīṣma and that he is an equal of Kṛṣṇā's son. He is also devoted to the cause of the Pāṇḍava-s.
मैंने सुना है कि सात्यकि ने द्रोण, अर्जुन, वासुदेव, कृपा और भीष्म से हथियारों के बारे में सीखा था और वह कृष्ण के पुत्र के बराबर है। वह पांडवों के हित के प्रति भी समर्पित हैं।

तेषां मध्ये सूर्यमिवातपन्तं; श्रिया वृतं चेदिपतिं ज्वलन्तम्
The Cedi-s and the Kārūṣaka-s have also joined him, with all the enterprising lords of the earth. In their midst, blazing in prosperity like the sun, used to be the flaming king of Cedi.
पृथ्वी के सभी उद्यमशील शासकों के साथ-साथ सेडि-एस और कारूशक-एस भी उसके साथ शामिल हो गए हैं। उनके बीच में, सूरज की तरह समृद्धि में चमकते हुए, सेडी के ज्वलंत राजा हुआ करते थे।
He was regarded as unassailable in battle. In drawing the bow, he was foremost on earth. He was chief among the kṣatriya-s. But using his powerful force, Kṛṣṇā crushed and killed him.
उन्हें युद्ध में अजेय माना जाता था। धनुष खींचने में वह पृथ्वी पर अग्रणी था। वह क्षत्रियों में प्रमुख थे। लेकिन कृष्ण ने अपने शक्तिशाली बल का प्रयोग करके उसे कुचल दिया और मार डाला।
In earlier times, he crushed Śiśupāla in battle, thus increasing the fame of the Yādava-s. All the Indra-s among men, the kings of the Kārūṣa-s, then increasingly extolled his honour.
पहले के समय में, उन्होंने शिशुपाल को युद्ध में कुचल दिया था, जिससे यादवों की प्रसिद्धि बढ़ गई थी। तब मनुष्यों में से सभी इंद्रों, करुषों के राजाओं ने तेजी से उनके सम्मान की प्रशंसा की।
When Kṛṣṇā rode on his chariot with Sugrīva, they realized that Keśava was invincible. They ran away, deserting the king of Cedi, like small animals at the sight of a lion.
जब कृष्ण सुग्रीव के साथ अपने रथ पर सवार हुए, तो उन्हें एहसास हुआ कि केशव अजेय थे। वे सेडी के राजा को छोड़कर भाग गये, जैसे शेर को देखकर छोटे जानवर भाग जाते हैं।
O Sañjaya! O son of Gavalgana! On remembering what I have been told about Keśava's valour, undertaken for their sake, and on remembering Viṣṇu's other deeds, I cannot find any peace.
हे संजय! हे गवलगण के पुत्र! उनके लिए किए गए केशव के पराक्रम के बारे में मुझे जो बताया गया है उसे याद करने पर और विष्णु के अन्य कार्यों को याद करने पर, मुझे कोई शांति नहीं मिलती है।

No enemy can withstand those who are led by that lion among Vṛṣṇi-s. My heart trembles when I hear that the two Kṛṣṇās are united on the same chariot.
वृष्णि-समुदाय में जो लोग उस सिंह के नेतृत्व में होते हैं, उनका कोई शत्रु सामना नहीं कर सकता। जब मैं सुनता हूं कि दो कृष्ण एक ही रथ पर एकजुट हैं तो मेरा दिल कांप उठता है।

नो चेद्गच्छेत्संगरं मन्दबुद्धि;स्ताभ्यां सुतो मे विपरीतचेताः
नो चेत्कुरून्संजय निर्दहेता;मिन्द्राविष्णू दैत्यसेनां यथैव
मतो हि मे शक्रसमो धनंजयः; सनातनो वृष्णिवीरश्च विष्णुः
I hope my evil-minded son, whose intelligence is contrary, does not fall foul of them in a fight. O Sañjaya! Otherwise, they will burn down the Kuru-s, like Indra and Viṣṇu against the armies of the daitya-s. It is my view that Dhanañjayā is Śākra's equal and the Vṛṣṇi warrior is the eternal Viṣṇu.
मैं आशा करता हूं कि मेरा दुष्टबुद्धि पुत्र, जिसकी बुद्धि विपरीत है, लड़ाई में उनसे धोखा न खाये। हे संजय! अन्यथा, वे दैत्यों की सेनाओं के विरुद्ध इंद्र और विष्णु की तरह कुरु-वंश को जला देंगे। मेरा विचार है कि धनंजय शक्र के समकक्ष हैं और वृष्णि योद्धा शाश्वत विष्णु हैं।
Kuntī's spirited son, Pāṇḍava Ajātaśatru, is humble and has sought refuge in dharma. The intelligent one has been deceived by Duryodhana. I hope that in his anger, he does not burn down the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra.
कुंती के उत्साही पुत्र, पांडव अजातशत्रु, विनम्र हैं और उन्होंने धर्म की शरण ली है। दुर्योधन ने बुद्धिमान को धोखा दिया है। मुझे आशा है कि वह अपने क्रोध में धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्रों को नहीं जलायेंगे।
O sūta! He is united with austerities and brahmacarya. Any resolution that he sets his mind on, is always successful. O Sañjaya! I am extremely terrified of his anger on the field of battle and I know that his cause is just.
हे सुता! वह तपस्या और ब्रह्मचर्य से युक्त है। वह मन में जो भी संकल्प करता है, वह सदैव सफल होता है। हे संजय! युद्ध के मैदान में उसके क्रोध से मैं अत्यंत भयभीत हूं और जानता हूं कि उसका कारण उचित है।

स गच्छ शीघ्रं प्रहितो रथेन; पाञ्चालराजस्य चमूं परेत्य
अजातशत्रुं कुशलं स्म पृच्छेः; पुनः पुनः प्रीतियुक्तं वदेस्त्वम्
Therefore, swiftly depart on your chariot. Having gone to the abode of the king of Pāñcāla, you must ask Ajātaśatru about his welfare repeatedly, in words full of affection.
अत: तुम शीघ्रतापूर्वक अपने रथ पर प्रस्थान करो। पंचाल के राजा के निवास पर जाकर तुम्हें स्नेह भरे शब्दों में अजातशत्रु से बार-बार उसका कुशल क्षेम पूछना चाहिए।
O son! When you meet Janārdana, immensely wise, brave and generous, on my instructions, you must ask him about his good health too. Say that Dhṛtarāṣṭra wishes for peace with the Pāṇḍava-s.
हे वत्स जब आप मेरे निर्देश पर अत्यंत बुद्धिमान, साहसी और उदार जनार्दन से मिलें, तो उनसे उनके अच्छे स्वास्थ्य के बारे में भी अवश्य पूछें। कहो कि धृतराष्ट्र पांडवों के साथ शांति चाहते हैं।

न तस्य किंचिद्वचनं न कुर्या;त्कुन्तीपुत्रो वासुदेवस्य सूत
प्रियश्चैषामात्मसमश्च कृष्णो; विद्वांश्चैषां कर्मणि नित्ययुक्तः
O sūta! There is no word of Vāsudeva's that Kuntī's son will not carry out. Kṛṣṇā is as dear to them as their own selves. He is intelligent and is always attentive to their cause.
हे सुता! वासुदेव का कोई भी वचन ऐसा नहीं है जिसे कुंती का पुत्र पूरा नहीं करेगा। कृष्ण उन्हें अपने समान ही प्रिय हैं। वह बुद्धिमान है और हमेशा उनके हितों के प्रति चौकस रहता है।
On meeting the Pāṇḍava-s, the Sṛñjaya-s, Janārdana, Yuyudhāna and Virāṭa, on my instructions, you must ask about their health and also that of the five sons of Draupadī.
मेरे निर्देश पर पांडवों, सृंजय, जनार्दन, युयुधान और विराट से मिलने पर तुम्हें उनके और द्रौपदी के पांचों पुत्रों के स्वास्थ्य के बारे में अवश्य पूछना चाहिए।

यद्यत्तत्र प्राप्तकालं परेभ्य;स्त्वं मन्येथा भारतानां हितं च
तत्तद्भाषेथाः संजय राजमध्ये; न मूर्छयेद्यन्न भवेच्च युद्धम्
O Sañjaya! At the right time, whatever you think should be said for the welfare of the Bhārata-s, say that in the midst of the kings, but do not say anything that incites them to the war."
हे संजय! उचित समय पर जो कुछ तुम भरतवंशियों के हित के लिये कहना उचित समझो, वह राजाओं के बीच में कहो, परन्तु ऐसा कुछ मत कहो जो उन्हें युद्ध के लिये उकसाये।''
