सूत उवाच ततो रजन्यां व्युष्टायां प्रभात उदिते रवौ कद्रूश्च विनता चैव भगिन्यौ ते तपोधन

सौति ने कहा: हे तपस्या के धनी! जब रात गई तो सुबह हुई और सूरज उग आया। बहनें कद्रू और विनता,

अमर्षिते सुसंरब्धे दास्ये कृतपणे तदा जग्मतुस्तुरगं द्रष्टुमुच्चैःश्रवसमन्तिकात्

having laid a wager on slavery, were impatient and driven by jealousy. They started out to see the horse Ucchaihshrava, who was nearby.

On their way, they saw the deep and great ocean, the treasury of the waters, full of fish that swallow whales, crowded with sharks

and populated by thousands of other creatures of many forms. No other creatures could approach it, because of the perennial and terrible presence of crocodiles and turtles.

और कई रूपों के हजारों अन्य प्राणियों से आबाद है। मगरमच्छों और कछुओं की बारहमासी और भयानक उपस्थिति के कारण कोई भी अन्य जीव इसके पास नहीं जा सकता था।

आकरं सर्वरत्नानामालयं वरुणस्य च नागानामालयं रम्यमुत्तमं सरितां पतिम्

It was the source of all jewels. It was the abode of Vāruṇa. It was the beautiful and supreme home of the nāga-s. It was the lord of all the rivers.

यह सभी रत्नों का स्रोत था। यह वरुण का निवास स्थान था। यह नागाओं का सुंदर और सर्वोच्च घर था। यह सभी नदियों का स्वामी था।

पातालज्वलनावासमसुराणां च बन्धनम् भयंकरं च सत्त्वानां पयसां निधिमर्णवम्

It was the home of the subterranean fire, friend to the demons and a terror to all creatures. It was the great reservoir of the waters and never decayed.

यह भूमिगत अग्नि का घर, राक्षसों का मित्र और सभी प्राणियों के लिए भय था। यह जल का विशाल भण्डार था और कभी नष्ट नहीं होता था।

शुभं दिव्यममर्त्यानाममृतस्याकरं परम् अप्रमेयमचिन्त्यं च सुपुण्यजलमद्भुतम्

It was blessed and brought welfare to the gods. It was the source of the ambrosia. It was beyond measure, beyond imagination, sacred and supreme.

इससे देवताओं को आशीर्वाद मिला और उनका कल्याण हुआ। यह अमृत का स्रोत था। यह माप से परे, कल्पना से परे, पवित्र और सर्वोच्च था।

घोरं जलचरारावरौद्रं भैरवनिस्वनम् गम्भीरावर्तकलिलं सर्वभूतभयंकरम्

It was also fearful, with the terrible roars of aquatic creatures making a thunderous noise and full of deep whirlpools. It was a source of fear to all creatures.

वह भयानक भी था, जलीय जीवों की भयानक गर्जना से भीषण ध्वनि और गहरे भँवरों से भरी हुई। यह सभी प्राणियों के लिए भय का कारण था।

वेलादोलानिलचलं क्षोभोद्वेगसमुत्थितम् वीचीहस्तैः प्रचलितैर्नृत्यन्तमिव सर्वशः

Buffeted by the winds, with the shoreline changing, heaving up with the agitation and the turbulence, it seemed to dance everywhere, its waves like raised hands.

हवाओं के थपेड़ों से, तटरेखा बदलने के साथ, हलचल और उथल-पुथल के साथ, यह हर जगह नाचता हुआ प्रतीत होता है, इसकी लहरें उठे हुए हाथों की तरह होती हैं।

चन्द्रवृद्धिक्षयवशादुद्वृत्तोर्मिदुरासदम् पाञ्चजन्यस्य जननं रत्नाकरमनुत्तमम्

Its waves heaved with changes in the moon. It was the source of the pāñcajanya. It was the source of the best of jewels.

चंद्रमा में परिवर्तन के साथ इसकी लहरें ऊंची हो गईं। यह पाञ्चजन्य का स्रोत था। यह सर्वोत्तम रत्नों का स्रोत था।

गां विन्दता भगवता गोविन्देनामितौजसा वराहरूपिणा चान्तर्विक्षोभितजलाविलम्

In days gone by, it was agitated by Lord Govinda of infinite energy, when he assumed the form of a boar and found the earth at the bottom of the waters.

बीते दिनों में, यह अनंत ऊर्जा वाले भगवान गोविंदा से उत्तेजित हो गया था, जब उन्होंने एक सूअर का रूप धारण किया और पानी के नीचे पृथ्वी को पाया।

ब्रह्मर्षिणा च तपता वर्षाणां शतमत्रिणा अनासादितगाधं च पातालतलमव्ययम्

Though he tried for 100 years, the brahmarṣi Atri could not find its bottom, lower than the nether regions.

100 वर्षों तक प्रयत्न करने पर भी ब्रह्मर्षि अत्रि पाताल से भी नीचे इसका तल नहीं खोज सके।

अध्यात्मयोगनिद्रां च पद्मनाभस्य सेवतः युगादिकालशयनं विष्णोरमिततेजसः

At the beginning of every yuga, when Viṣṇu of infinite energy falls asleep in spiritual meditation, it is the bed of the lotus-navelled.

प्रत्येक युग की शुरुआत में, जब अनंत ऊर्जा वाले विष्णु आध्यात्मिक ध्यान में सो जाते हैं, तो यह नाभि-कमल का बिस्तर होता है।

वडवामुखदीप्ताग्नेस्तोयहव्यप्रदं शुभम् अगाधपारं विस्तीर्णमप्रमेयं सरित्पतिम्

Its waters were the sacrificial offerings in the subter ranean fire's blazing flames. It was holy, without limits, vast, beyond measure and the lord of the rivers.

इसका जल भूमिगत अग्नि की धधकती लपटों में यज्ञ की आहुतियाँ थीं। वह पवित्र था, असीमित था, विशाल था, माप से परे था और नदियों का स्वामी था।

महानदीभिर्बह्वीभिः स्पर्धयेव सहस्रशः अभिसार्यमाणमनिशं ददृशाते महार्णवम्

They saw the great ocean, with thousands of great rivers rushing towards it with pride, like rivals towards lovers'rendezvous.

उन्होंने महान महासागर को देखा, जिसमें हजारों बड़ी नदियाँ गर्व के साथ उसकी ओर दौड़ रही थीं, जैसे प्रेमियों के मिलन के समय प्रतिद्वंद्वी।

गम्भीरं तिमिमकरोग्रसंकुलं तं; गर्जन्तं जलचररावरौद्रनादैः विस्तीर्णं ददृशतुरम्बरप्रकाशं; तेऽगाधं निधिमुरुमम्भसामनन्तम्

They saw that it was deep, populated by whales and sharks, thundering with the sounds of other aquatic creatures. They saw it was vast, as extended as the sky, unfathomable and the infinite and great treasury of the waters.

उन्होंने देखा कि यह गहरा था, व्हेल और शार्क से आबाद था, अन्य जलीय जीवों की आवाज़ से गरज रहा था। उन्होंने देखा कि यह विशाल था, आकाश जितना फैला हुआ, अथाह और जल का अनंत और महान खजाना।

इत्येवं झषमकरोर्मिसंकुलं तं; गम्भीरं विकसितमम्बरप्रकाशम् पातालज्वलनशिखाविदीपितं तं; पश्यन्त्यौ द्रुतमभिपेततुस्तदानीम्

When they thus saw the deep ocean, populated with whales, sharks and waves, serene and extended like the sky, shining with the flames of the subterranean fire, they swiftly passed over it.

जब उन्होंने गहरे समुद्र को देखा, जो व्हेल, शार्क और लहरों से भरा हुआ था, शांत और आकाश की तरह फैला हुआ, भूमिगत आग की लपटों से चमक रहा था, तो वे तेजी से उसके ऊपर से गुजर गए।
