गन्धर्व उवाच एवमुक्त्वा ततस्तूर्णं जगामोर्ध्वमनिन्दिता स तु राजा पुनर्भूमौ तत्रैव निपपात ह

The gāndharva said: "Having said this, the unblemished one swiftly rose up into the sky. The king once more fell down on the ground.

गन्धर्व ने कहा, "इतना कहकर वह निष्कलंक तेजी से आकाश में उड़ गया। राजा एक बार फिर भूमि पर गिर पड़ा।"

अमात्यः सानुयात्रस्तु तं ददर्श महावने क्षितौ निपतितं काले शक्रध्वजमिवोच्छ्रितम्

Searching for that supreme among kings, his minister and attendants found him in that state in the great forest, prone on the ground like Śākra's flag when the season is right.

राजाओं में उस सर्वोच्च को खोजते हुए, उसके मंत्री और सेवकों ने उसे महान वन में उस अवस्था में पाया, जो मौसम के सही होने पर शक्र के ध्वज की तरह जमीन पर झुका हुआ था।

तं हि दृष्ट्वा महेष्वासं निरश्वं पतितं क्षितौ बभूव सोऽस्य सचिवः संप्रदीप्त इवाग्निना

On seeing the great archer prone on the ground and without a horse, the minister was burnt, as if by a fire.

महान धनुर्धर को बिना घोड़े के जमीन पर पड़ा हुआ देखकर, मंत्री मानो आग से जल गया।

त्वरया चोपसंगम्य स्नेहादागतसंभ्रमः तं समुत्थापयामास नृपतिं काममोहितम्

Drawing quickly near, the minister raised the king, who was lying senseless on the ground in the affliction of desire,

मंत्री ने शीघ्रता से निकट आकर राजा को उठाया, जो कामना के कारण भूमि पर बेसुध पड़ा हुआ था।

भूतलाद्भूमिपालेशं पितेव पतितं सुतम् प्रज्ञया वयसा चैव वृद्धः कीर्त्या दमेन च

affectionately and reverently, just as a father raises a fallen son. This minister was old in age, wisdom, fame and deeds.

स्नेहपूर्वक और आदरपूर्वक, जैसे एक पिता गिरे हुए पुत्र को उठाता है। यह मंत्री आयु, बुद्धि, यश और कर्म में वृद्ध था।

अमात्यस्तं समुत्थाप्य बभूव विगतज्वरः उवाच चैनं कल्याण्या वाचा मधुरयोत्थितम् मा भैर्मनुजशार्दूल भद्रं चास्तु तवानघ

When he had raised him and senses were recovered, the minister addressed him in sweet and benevolent words, "O tiger among men! Do not be frightened. O unblemished one! You will be blessed.

जब उसने उसे उठाया और होश में आया, तो मंत्री ने उसे मीठे और दयालु शब्दों में संबोधित किया, "हे पुरुषों के बीच शेर! भयभीत मत हो। हे निष्कलंक! तुम धन्य हो जाओगे।

क्षुत्पिपासापरिश्रान्तं तर्कयामास तं नृपम् पतितं पातनं संख्ये शात्रवाणां महीतले

The minister thought that the king, the destroyer of hostile armies in battle, had been lying down on the ground because he had been overcome with hunger, thirst and exhaustion.

मंत्री ने सोचा कि युद्ध में शत्रु सेनाओं का संहार करने वाला राजा भूख, प्यास और थकावट से व्याकुल होकर भूमि पर पड़ा हुआ है।

वारिणाथ सुशीतेन शिरस्तस्याभ्यषेचयत् अस्पृशन्मुकुटं राज्ञः पुण्डरीकसुगन्धिना

He sprinkled cold water, fragrant with the scent of lotuses, on the king's head, but without touching the crown.

उसने राजा के सिर पर कमल की सुगंध से सुगंधित ठंडा जल छिड़का, लेकिन मुकुट को छुए बिना।

ततः प्रत्यागतप्राणस्तद्बलं बलवान्नृपः सर्वं विसर्जयामास तमेकं सचिवं विना

Thereupon, the powerful king regained his consciousness. He then sent away all his attendants, except the minister.

इसके बाद, शक्तिशाली राजा को होश आ गया। फिर उसने मंत्री को छोड़कर अपने सभी सेवकों को विदा कर दिया।

ततस्तस्याज्ञया राज्ञो विप्रतस्थे महद्बलम् स तु राजा गिरिप्रस्थे तस्मिन्पुनरुपाविशत्

When that large retinue had gone away on the king's instructions, the king again sat down on that mountain plain.

जब राजा के आदेश पर वह विशाल अनुचर चला गया, तो राजा फिर से उस पहाड़ी मैदान पर बैठ गया।

ततस्तस्मिन्गिरिवरे शुचिर्भूत्वा कृताञ्जलिः आरिराधयिषुः सूर्यं तस्थावूर्ध्वभुजः क्षितौ

Then, on that great mountain, the king purified himself and joined his palms. He raised his arms up and worshipped the sun.

तब उस विशाल पर्वत पर राजा ने स्वयं को शुद्ध किया और अपनी हथेलियाँ जोड़ लीं। उसने अपनी भुजाएँ ऊपर उठाईं और सूर्य की पूजा की।

जगाम मनसा चैव वसिष्ठमृषिसत्तमम् पुरोहितममित्रघ्नस्तदा संवरणो नृपः

King Saṃvaraṇa, destroyer of enemies, also mentally thought of his priest Vaśiṣṭha, supreme among riṣi-s.

शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले राजा संवरण ने भी मन ही मन अपने पुरोहित वशिष्ठ, जो ऋषियों में श्रेष्ठ थे, के बारे में सोचा।

नक्तंदिनमथैकस्थे स्थिते तस्मिञ्जनाधिपे अथाजगाम विप्रर्षिस्तदा द्वादशमेऽहनि

Without a break, the ruler of men remained there for days and nights. Then, on the twelfth day, the brahmarṣi came to him.

बिना किसी रुकावट के, मनुष्यों का शासक वहाँ दिन और रात तक रहा। फिर, बारहवें दिन, ब्रह्मर्षि उनके पास आये।

स विदित्वैव नृपतिं तपत्या हृतमानसम् दिव्येन विधिना ज्ञात्वा भावितात्मा महानृषिः

Through his power of austerities, the great riṣi who was self-controlled knew that, as decreed by destiny, the king's heart had been stolen by Tapatī.

अपनी तपस्या की शक्ति से, आत्मसंयमी महान ऋषि को पता था कि, नियति के आदेश के अनुसार, राजा का दिल तापती ने चुरा लिया था।

तथा तु नियतात्मानं स तं नृपतिसत्तमम् आबभाषे स धर्मात्मा तस्यैवार्थचिकीर्षया

Then the best of sages, who was rigid in his vows, wished to bring good fortune to the virtuous king and assured him.

तब सर्वश्रेष्ठ ऋषियों ने, जो अपनी प्रतिज्ञा में दृढ़ थे, धर्मात्मा राजा के लिए सौभाग्य लाने की कामना की और उन्हें आश्वासन दिया।

स तस्य मनुजेन्द्रस्य पश्यतो भगवानृषिः ऊर्ध्वमाचक्रमे द्रष्टुं भास्करं भास्करद्युतिः

As the ruler of men watched, the illustrious riṣi ascended the sky to meet the sun, as radiant himself as that blazing one.

जैसे ही मनुष्यों के शासक ने देखा, वह यशस्वी ऋषि सूर्य से मिलने के लिए आकाश में चढ़ गए, वे स्वयं भी उस प्रज्वलित सूर्य के समान तेजस्वी थे।

सहस्रांशुं ततो विप्रः कृताञ्जलिरुपस्थितः वसिष्ठोऽहमिति प्रीत्या स चात्मानं न्यवेदयत्

With his palms joined, the Brāhmaṇa joyfully introduced himself to the one with a thousand rays and said, "I am Vaśiṣṭha."

अपनी हथेलियाँ जोड़कर, ब्राह्मण ने ख़ुशी से एक हजार किरणों वाले को अपना परिचय दिया और कहा, "मैं वशिष्ठ हूँ।"

तमुवाच महातेजा विवस्वान्मुनिसत्तमम् महर्षे स्वागतं तेऽस्तु कथयस्व यथेच्छसि

Then the immensely radiant Vivasvat said to the best of sages, "O maharṣi! You are welcome. Tell me what you desire."

तब अत्यंत तेजस्वी विवस्वत ने श्रेष्ठ ऋषियों से कहा, "हे महर्षि! आपका स्वागत है। मुझे बताएं कि आपकी क्या इच्छा है।"
