ब्राह्मण्युवाच नाहं गृह्णामि वस्तात दृष्टीर्नास्ति रुषान्विता अयं तु भार्गवो नूनमूरुजः कुपितोऽद्य वः

The Brāhmaṇa woman said: "O sons! I have not robbed you of your eyesight. Nor am I angry with you. It is the Bhārgava who has been born from my thigh who is angry with you.

ब्राह्मण स्त्री ने कहा: "हे पुत्रों! मैंने तुम्हारी दृष्टि नहीं छीनी है। न ही मैं तुमसे क्रोधित हूं। मेरी जंघा से उत्पन्न हुए भार्गव ही तुमसे क्रोधित हैं।"

तेन चक्षूंषि वस्तात नूनं कोपान्महात्मना स्मरता निहतान्बन्धूनादत्तानि न संशयः

O sons! There is no doubt that your eyesight has been taken away by this great-souled one, whose anger has been aroused on remembering that you had killed his relatives.

हे पुत्रो! इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं कि इसी महात्मा ने आपकी आंखों की रोशनी छीन ली है, जिसे यह याद करके क्रोध आ गया है कि आपने उसके रिश्तेदारों को मार डाला है।

गर्भानपि यदा यूयं भृगूणां घ्नत पुत्रकाः तदायमूरुणा गर्भो मया वर्षशतं धृतः

O sons! When you destroyed even the Bhṛgu sons in the wombs, I carried this child in my thigh for 100 years so that he might do that which is good for the Bhṛgu lineage.

हे पुत्रो! जब तुमने गर्भ में ही भृगु पुत्रों को नष्ट कर दिया, तब मैंने इस बालक को 100 वर्षों तक अपनी जाँघ में रखा ताकि वह वह काम कर सके जो भृगु वंश के लिए अच्छा हो।

षडङ्गश्चाखिलो वेद इमं गर्भस्थमेव हि विवेश भृगुवंशस्य भूयः प्रियचिकीर्षया

All the Veda-s, including their six aṅgas, came to him when he was in the womb. Angry at the killing of his fathers, he certainly wishes to kill you.

जब वे गर्भ में थे, तब उनके छह अंग सहित सभी वेद उनके पास आ गये थे। अपने पितरों की हत्या से क्रोधित होकर वह अवश्य ही तुम्हें मार डालना चाहता है।

सोऽयं पितृवधान्नूनं क्रोधाद्वो हन्तुमिच्छति तेजसा यस्य दिव्येन चक्षूंषि मुषितानि वः

It is through his divine radiance that your eyesight has been destroyed.

उनके दिव्य तेज से ही तुम्हारी दृष्टि नष्ट हुई है।

तमिमं तात याचध्वमौर्वं मम सुतोत्तमम् अयं वः प्रणिपातेन तुष्टो दृष्टीर्विमोक्ष्यति

O sons! Pray to Aurva, this supreme son of mine. If he is placated through your homage, he may restore your eyesight."

हे पुत्रो! मेरे इस परम पुत्र और्व से प्रार्थना करो। यदि वह आपकी श्रद्धांजलि से संतुष्ट हो जाता है, तो वह आपकी आँखों की रोशनी लौटा सकता है।"

गन्धर्व उवाच एवमुक्तास्ततः सर्वे राजानस्ते तमूरुजम् ऊचुः प्रसीदेति तदा प्रसादं च चकार सः

Gāndharva said: Having been thus addressed, all the kings addressed the son who had been born from her thigh and begged him for mercy. He was merciful.

गंधर्व ने कहा: इस प्रकार संबोधित किए जाने पर, सभी राजाओं ने उसकी जांघ से पैदा हुए पुत्र को संबोधित किया और उससे दया की भीख मांगी। वह दयालु था.

अनेनैव च विख्यातो नाम्ना लोकेषु सत्तमः स और्व इति विप्रर्षिरूरुं भित्त्वा व्यजायत

Since that supreme Brāhmaṇa riṣi was born after splitting open the thigh, he came to be known in the worlds by the name of Aurva.

चूँकि वह परम ब्राह्मण ऋषि जाँघ को चीरकर पैदा हुए थे, इसलिए उन्हें लोक में और्व के नाम से जाना जाने लगा।

चक्षूंषि प्रतिलभ्याथ प्रतिजग्मुस्ततो नृपाः भार्गवस्तु मुनिर्मेने सर्वलोकपराभवम्

Regaining their eyesight, the kings returned. But the Bhārgava sage decided to bring about the destruction of the entire world.

अपनी आँखों की रोशनी वापस पाकर राजा वापस लौट आये। लेकिन भार्गव ऋषि ने पूरी दुनिया का विनाश करने का फैसला किया।

स चक्रे तात लोकानां विनाशाय महामनाः सर्वेषामेव कार्त्स्न्येन मनः प्रवणमात्मनः

O son! That great-souled one decided to bring about the destruction of all the worlds.

हे वत्स उस महान आत्मा ने समस्त लोकों का विनाश करने का निश्चय किया।

इच्छन्नपचितिं कर्तुं भृगूणां भृगुसत्तमः सर्वलोकविनाशाय तपसा महतैधितः

In order to bring honour to the Bhṛgu-s, that descendant of the Bhṛgu lineage engaged in great austerities, so as to bring about the destruction of all the worlds.

भृगुओं को सम्मान दिलाने के लिए, भृगु वंश के उस वंशज ने महान तपस्या की, ताकि सभी लोकों का विनाश हो सके।

तापयामास लोकान्स सदेवासुरमानुषान् तपसोग्रेण महता नन्दयिष्यन्पितामहान्

Through his great and severe austerities, he burnt the worlds with the gods, the āsura-s and men, and gratified his ancestors.

अपनी महान और गंभीर तपस्या के माध्यम से, उन्होंने देवताओं, असुरों और मनुष्यों सहित दुनिया को जला दिया और अपने पूर्वजों को संतुष्ट किया।

ततस्तं पितरस्तात विज्ञाय भृगुसत्तमम् पितृलोकादुपागम्य सर्व ऊचुरिदं वचः

On learning what the descendant of the lineage was planning to do, the ancestors descended from their world and told him,

यह जानने पर कि वंश का वंशज क्या करने की योजना बना रहा था, पूर्वजों ने अपनी दुनिया से उतरकर उससे कहा,

और्व दृष्टः प्रभावस्ते तपसोग्रस्य पुत्रक प्रसादं कुरु लोकानां नियच्छ क्रोधमात्मनः

"O Aurva! O son! We have witnessed the power of your severe austerities. Have mercy for the worlds and control your anger.

"हे और्व! हे पुत्र! हमने तुम्हारी कठोर तपस्या की शक्ति देखी है। संसारों पर दया करो और अपने क्रोध पर नियंत्रण रखो।"

नानीशैर्हि तदा तात भृगुभिर्भावितात्मभिः वधोऽभ्युपेक्षितः सर्वैः क्षत्रियाणां विहिंसताम्

O son! The self-controlled Bhṛgu-s weren't powerless. Nor were they indifferent to slaughter at the hands of the violent Kṣatriya-s.

हे वत्स आत्मसंयमी भृगु शक्तिहीन नहीं थे। न ही वे हिंसक क्षत्रियों के हाथों वध के प्रति उदासीन थे।

आयुषा हि प्रकृष्टेन यदा नः खेद आविशत् तदास्माभिर्वधस्तात क्षत्रियैरीप्सितः स्वयम्

O son! When we got tired of our long lives, we ourselves wished for our deaths at the hands of the Kṣatriya-s.

हे वत्स जब हम अपने लंबे जीवन से थक गए, तो हमने स्वयं क्षत्रियों के हाथों अपनी मृत्यु की कामना की।

निखातं तद्धि वै वित्तं केनचिद्भृगुवेश्मनि वैरायैव तदा न्यस्तं क्षत्रियान्कोपयिष्णुभिः किं हि वित्तेन नः कार्यं स्वर्गेप्सूनां द्विजर्षभ

The riches that were buried in the ground in the dwelling place of the Bhṛgu-s were placed there with the intention of angering the Kṣatriya-s and creating enmity with them. O bull among the twice-born! What use are riches to us when we wish to attain heaven?

जो धन भृगुओं के निवास स्थान में जमीन में गाड़ दिया गया था, वह क्षत्रियों को क्रोधित करने और उनके साथ शत्रुता पैदा करने के इरादे से वहां रखा गया था। हे द्विजों में बैल! जब हम स्वर्ग प्राप्त करना चाहते हैं तो धन का हमारे लिए क्या उपयोग है?

यदा तु मृत्युरादातुं न नः शक्नोति सर्वशः तदास्माभिरयं दृष्ट उपायस्तात संमतः

O son! When we found that death was completely unable to overcome all of us, we thought this would be the most pleasant way.

हे वत्स जब हमने पाया कि मृत्यु हम सभी पर काबू पाने में पूरी तरह असमर्थ है, तो हमने सोचा कि यह सबसे सुखद तरीका होगा।

आत्महा च पुमांस्तात न लोकाँल्लभते शुभान् ततोऽस्माभिः समीक्ष्यैवं नात्मनात्मा विनाशितः

O son! Those who kill themselves never attain the best worlds. Remembering that, we did not kill ourselves with our own hands.

हे वत्स जो लोग स्वयं को मारते हैं उन्हें कभी भी उत्तम लोक प्राप्त नहीं होते हैं। यह याद रखते हुए, हमने खुद को अपने हाथों से नहीं मारा।

न चैतन्नः प्रियं तात यदिदं कर्तुमिच्छसि नियच्छेदं मनः पापात्सर्वलोकपराभवात्

O son! That which you desire does not please us at all. Therefore, control your mind and refrain from this evil destruction of all the worlds.

हे वत्स जो कुछ तुम चाहते हो वह हमें बिल्कुल भी प्रसन्न नहीं करता। इसलिए, अपने मन पर नियंत्रण रखें और सभी दुनियाओं के इस बुरे विनाश से बचें।

न हि नः क्षत्रियाः केचिन्न लोकाः सप्त पुत्रक दूषयन्ति तपस्तेजः क्रोधमुत्पतितं जहि

O son! None of the Kṣatriya-s in the seven worlds has offended or harmed our austerities. Win over the anger that has arisen in you."

हे वत्स सातों लोकों में से किसी भी क्षत्रिय ने हमारी तपस्या को ठेस नहीं पहुँचाई या क्षति नहीं पहुँचाई। अपने अंदर उत्पन्न हुए क्रोध पर विजय प्राप्त करें।”
