Dhṛtarāṣṭra asked: O Sañjaya! The hopes of my sons being victorious have always been vested in him. On seeing him retreat in the battle, what did Duryodhana say? O son! In that encounter, what did Karṇa do after that?
धृतराष्ट्र ने पूछा: हे संजय! मेरे पुत्रों के विजयी होने की आशा सदैव उनमें निहित रही है। युद्ध में पीछे हटते देख दुर्योधन ने क्या कहा? हे वत्स उस मुठभेड़ में, उसके बाद कर्ण ने क्या किया?
Sañjaya replied: On seeing Bhīmasena in that battle, blazing like a fire, Karṇa resorted to another chariot that had been properly prepared and again attacked Pāṇḍava, like an ocean agitated by the wind.
संजय ने उत्तर दिया: उस युद्ध में आग की तरह धधकते हुए भीमसेन को देखकर, कर्ण ने दूसरे रथ का सहारा लिया जो ठीक से तैयार किया गया था और हवा से उत्तेजित सागर की तरह फिर से पांडव पर हमला किया।
O lord of the earth! On seeing that Adhiratha's son was enraged, your sons thought that Bhīmasena was like oblation being poured into the mouth of a fire.
हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! यह देखकर कि अधिरथ का पुत्र क्रोधित हो गया है, आपके पुत्रों ने सोचा कि भीमसेन अग्नि के मुख में डाली जाने वाली आहुति के समान हैं।

O king! O lord of the earth! A great and extremely terrible sound arose again, in the conflict between the son of the sūta and Bhīmā.
हे राजा! हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! सूतपुत्र और भीम के संघर्ष में पुनः एक महान एवं अत्यंत भयानक ध्वनि उत्पन्न हुई।

The mighty-armed ones were wrathful and wished to kill each other. They glanced at each other and seemed to burn each other down with their eyes.
महाबाहु क्रोध में थे और एक-दूसरे को मार डालना चाहते थे। उन्होंने एक-दूसरे की ओर देखा और ऐसा लग रहा था मानो वे अपनी आँखों से एक-दूसरे को जला रहे हों।
The eyes of the mahāratha-s were red with rage and they sighed. Both of them were scorchers of enemies and they attacked and mangled each other.
महारथियों की आँखें क्रोध से लाल हो गईं और वे आहें भरने लगे। वे दोनों शत्रुओं को झुलसाने वाले थे और उन्होंने एक-दूसरे पर आक्रमण कर उसे क्षत-विक्षत कर दिया।

Your son thought that the Pārtha-s were no more than mere straws of gras-s. They were in desperate straits and he, deluded of his senses, was insolent.
आपके पुत्र ने सोचा कि पार्थ-परिवार केवल घास के तिनके से अधिक नहीं थे। वे अत्यंत संकट में थे और वह अपनी इंद्रियों से भ्रमित होकर ढीठ था।
The slayer of enemies thought about these and other miseries suffered since childhood. Vṛkodara, with dharma in his soul, no longer cared about remaining alive.

On seeing that the bull among the Pāṇḍava lineage was descending on him, with great ferocity and force, Karṇa countered him in that battle, like an elephant against a maddened elephant.

That army was full of chariots, elephants, horses and infantry. On beholding the extraordinary sight, Bhīmā attacked Karṇa and covered him with arrows.

In that battle, Karṇa covered Pāṇḍava, and the horses and the men, with arrows. His supreme horses possessed the complexion of swans and he mixed these up with the horses of his opponent

As swift as the wind, those horses were mixed up and looked extremely beautiful. O great king! They looked like black and white clouds that were mingled in the sky.
वे घोड़े वायु के समान तीव्र गति से मिश्रित हो गये थे और अत्यंत सुन्दर लग रहे थे। हे महान राजा! वे आकाश में मिले हुए काले और सफेद बादलों की तरह लग रहे थे।
The terrain where those warriors fought became as terrible as Yāma's kingdom. O foremost among the Bhārata lineage! It was dreadful to look at, like the capital of the king of the dead.
वह क्षेत्र जहाँ उन योद्धाओं ने युद्ध किया वह यम के राज्य के समान भयानक हो गया। हे भरत वंश में अग्रणी! यह देखने में भयानक था, मृतकों के राजा की राजधानी की तरह।
On seeing that the son of the sūta was engaged with Bhīmā, the scorcher of enemies, Kṛṣṇā and Dhanañjayā thought that an extremely heavy burden had been imposed on Bhīmā.
यह देखकर कि सूतपुत्र शत्रुओं को भस्म करने वाले भीम के साथ लगे हुए हैं, कृष्ण और धनंजय ने सोचा कि भीम पर बहुत भारी बोझ डाला गया है।
However, firm in the use of their hands, Adhiratha's son and Bhīmā shot arrows at each other and brought down horses, men and elephants with those arrows.

O bull among the Bhārata lineage! In a short instant, men, horses and elephants lost their lives and their lifeless bodies were strewn around on the ground.
हे भरत वंश में बैल! कुछ ही पल में, पुरुषों, घोड़ों और हाथियों की जान चली गई और उनके निर्जीव शरीर जमीन पर इधर-उधर बिखरे पड़े थे।
