संजय उवाच तमागतमभिप्रेक्ष्य भीमकर्माणमाहवे हर्षमाहारयां चक्रुः कुरवः सर्व एव ते

Sañjaya said: On seeing that the performer of terrible deeds had arrived to fight, all the Kuru-s were filled with delight.

संजय ने कहा: यह देखकर कि भयानक कर्म करने वाला युद्ध करने के लिए आया है, सभी कौरव खुशी से भर गए।

तथैव तव पुत्रास्ते दुर्योधनपुरोगमाः अप्लवाः प्लवमासाद्य तर्तुकामा इवार्णवम्

Your sons, with Duryodhana at the forefront, were like those who did not have rafts and desired to cross the ocean, but had now obtained rafts.

आपके पुत्र, दुर्योधन के साथ सबसे आगे, उन लोगों की तरह थे जिनके पास बेड़ा नहीं था और वे समुद्र पार करने की इच्छा रखते थे, लेकिन अब उन्हें बेड़ा मिल गया है।

पुनर्जातमिवात्मानं मन्वानाः पार्थिवास्तदा अलायुधं राक्षसेन्द्रं स्वागतेनाभ्यपूजयन्

The kings thought that they had been born again. They welcomed and worshipped Alāyudha, Indra among the rākṣasa-s.

राजाओं को लगा कि उनका दोबारा जन्म हो गया है। उन्होंने राक्षसों में इंद्र, अलायुध का स्वागत किया और उनकी पूजा की।

तस्मिंस्त्वमानुषे युद्धे वर्तमाने भयावहे कर्णराक्षसयोर्नक्तं दारुणप्रतिदर्शने

While the battle between humans raged on, there was a fearful battle between Karṇa and the rākṣasa. It was terrible to watch.

जहां मनुष्यों के बीच युद्ध चल रहा था, वहीं कर्ण और राक्षसों के बीच भयानक युद्ध हो रहा था। यह देखना भयानक था.

उपप्रैक्षन्त पाञ्चालाः स्मयमानाः सराजकाः तथैव तावका राजन्घूर्णमानास्ततस्ततः

The Pāñcāla-s and the kings smiled as they watched it. O king! In that fashion, those on your side wandered around here and there.

पंचाल और राजा यह देखकर मुस्कुराए। हे राजा! इसी प्रकार आपके पक्ष के लोग इधर-उधर घूमते रहे।

चुक्रुशुर्नेदमस्तीति द्रोणद्रौणिकृपादयः तत्कर्म दृष्ट्वा संभ्रान्ता हैडिम्बस्य रणाजिरे

On witnessing the feats of Hiḍimbā's son in the field of battle, they were frightened. Droṇa, Droṇa's son, Kṛpa and the others uttered wails of lamentation.

युद्ध के मैदान में हिडिम्बा के पुत्र के पराक्रम को देखकर वे भयभीत हो गये। द्रोण, द्रोण के पुत्र, कृप और अन्य लोगों ने विलाप करते हुए कहा।

सर्वमाविग्नमभवद्धाहाभूतमचेतनम् तव सैन्यं महाराज निराशं कर्णजीविते

All of them were routed and everyone there became senseless. O great king! Your soldiers gave up all hope of Karṇa remaining alive.

उन सभी को मार्ग से हटा दिया गया और वहां मौजूद सभी लोग बेहोश हो गए। हे महान राजा! आपके सैनिकों ने कर्ण के जीवित रहने की सारी आशा छोड़ दी।

दुर्योधनस्तु संप्रेक्ष्य कर्णमार्तिं परां गतम् अलायुधं राक्षसेन्द्रमाहूयेदमथाब्रवीत्

On seeing that Karṇa was confronting the ultimate calamity, Duryodhana summoned Alāyudha, Indra among the rākṣasa-s, and spoke these words to him.

यह देखकर कि कर्ण परम विपत्ति का सामना कर रहा है, दुर्योधन ने राक्षसों में से इंद्र अलायुध को बुलाया और उससे ये शब्द कहे।

एष वैकर्तनः कर्णो हैडिम्बेन समागतः कुरुते कर्म सुमहद्यदस्यौपयिकं मृधे

"Vaikartaṇa Karṇa is engaged with Hiḍimbā's son. He is performing great deeds in the battle, deserving of someone like him.

"वैकर्तन कर्ण हिडिम्बा के पुत्र के साथ जुड़ा हुआ है। वह युद्ध में महान कार्य कर रहा है, उसके जैसा कोई योग्य है।

पश्यैतान्पार्थिवाञ्शूरान्निहतान्भैमसेनिना नानाशस्त्रैरभिहतान्पादपानिव दन्तिना

But behold. Those brave kings are being killed by Bhīmasena's son. They are being struck by many weapons and are like trees struck by a tusker. In the midst of the kings, let this be your share in the battle.

लेकिन देखो. भीमसेन के पुत्र द्वारा उन वीर राजाओं का वध किया जा रहा है। वे अनेक शस्त्रों से मारे जा रहे हैं और हाथी द्वारा मारे गये वृक्षों के समान हैं। राजाओं के बीच में युद्ध में तुम्हारा भाग यही हो।

तवैष भागः समरे राजमध्ये मया कृतः तवैवानुमते वीर तं विक्रम्य निबर्हय

O brave one! You have my permission to exhibit your valour and destroy him.

हे वीर! तुम्हें अपनी वीरता प्रदर्शित करने और उसे नष्ट करने की मेरी अनुमति है।

पुरा वैकर्तनं कर्णमेष पापो घटोत्कचः मायाबलमुपाश्रित्य कर्शयत्यरिकर्शनः

O destroyer of enemies! Earlier, this wicked Ghaṭotkaca used his powers of māyā and afflicted Vaikartaṇa Karṇa."

हे शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले! इससे पहले, इस दुष्ट घटोत्कच ने अपनी माया की शक्तियों का इस्तेमाल किया और वैकर्तन कर्ण को पीड़ित किया।"

एवमुक्तः स राज्ञा तु राक्षसस्तीव्रविक्रमः तथेत्युक्त्वा महाबाहुर्घटोत्कचमुपाद्रवत्

Having been thus addressed by the king, the rākṣasa, whose valour was fierce, agreed and attacked the mighty-armed Ghaṭotkaca.

राजा द्वारा इस प्रकार संबोधित किये जाने पर राक्षस, जिसकी वीरता प्रचंड थी, सहमत हो गया और उसने महाबाहु घटोत्कच पर आक्रमण कर दिया।

ततः कर्णं समुत्सृज्य भैमसेनिरपि प्रभो प्रत्यमित्रमुपायान्तं मर्दयामास मार्गणैः

O lord! Bhīmasena's son abandoned Karṇa. As his enemy advanced, he crushed him with arrows.

हे भगवान! भीमसेन के पुत्र ने कर्ण को त्याग दिया। जैसे ही उसका शत्रु आगे बढ़ा, उसने उसे बाणों से कुचल डाला।

तयोः समभवद्युद्धं क्रुद्धयो राक्षसेन्द्रयोः मत्तयोर्वाशिताहेतोर्द्विपयोरिव कानने

There was a battle between those two enraged Indra-s among the rākṣasa-s. They were like two crazy elephants fighting in the forest, desiring the same she-elephant.

उन दोनों क्रोधित इन्द्रों के बीच राक्षसों में युद्ध हुआ। वे दो पागल हाथियों की तरह थे जो उसी हथिनी की चाहत में जंगल में लड़ रहे थे।

रक्षसा विप्रमुक्तस्तु कर्णोऽपि रथिनां वरः अभ्यद्रवद्भीमसेनं रथेनादित्यवर्चसा

Having been freed from the rākṣasa, Karṇa, supreme among rāṭha-s, attacked Bhīmasena on a chariot that was as radiant as the sun.

राक्षसों से मुक्त होकर रथियों में श्रेष्ठ कर्ण ने सूर्य के समान तेजस्वी रथ पर सवार होकर भीमसेन पर आक्रमण किया।

तमायान्तमनादृत्य दृष्ट्वा ग्रस्तं घटोत्कचम् अलायुधेन समरे सिंहेनेव गवां पतिम्

On seeing that Ghaṭotkaca was being consumed in the battle with Alāyudha, like the leader of a herd of cattle when engaged with a lion,

यह देखकर कि अलायुध के साथ युद्ध में घटोत्कच उसी प्रकार भस्म हो रहा था, जैसे सिंह के साथ युद्ध में मवेशियों के झुण्ड का नेता,

रथेनादित्यवपुषा भीमः प्रहरतां वरः किरञ्शरौघान्प्रययावलायुधरथं प्रति

Bhīmā, supreme among strikers, disregarded the advancing one.

प्रहार करने वालों में श्रेष्ठ भीम ने आगे बढ़ने वाले की उपेक्षा की।

तमायान्तमभिप्रेक्ष्य स तदालायुधः प्रभो घटोत्कचं समुत्सृज्य भीमसेनं समाह्वयत्

O lord! On seeing that he was advancing, Alāyudha abandoned Ghaṭotkaca and challenged Bhīmasena.

हे भगवान! यह देखकर कि वह आगे बढ़ रहा है, अलायुध ने घटोत्कच को छोड़ दिया और भीमसेन को चुनौती दी।

तं भीमः सहसाभ्येत्य राक्षसान्तकरः प्रभो सगणं राक्षसेन्द्रं तं शरवर्षैरवाकिरत्

O lord! Bhīmā, the destroyer of rākṣasa-s, advanced impetuously and countered the Indra among rākṣasa-s and his followers with a shower of arrows.

हे भगवान! राक्षसों का नाश करने वाले भीम तेजी से आगे बढ़े और उन्होंने राक्षसों और उनके अनुयायियों के बीच बाणों की बौछार से इंद्र का मुकाबला किया।

तथैवालायुधो राजञ्शिलाधौतैरजिह्मगैः अभ्यवर्षत कौन्तेयं पुनः पुनररिंदमः

O king! Alāyudha, the scorcher of enemies, repeatedly showered down swift arrows that had been sharpened on stone on Kaunteya.

हे राजा! शत्रुओं को झुलसाने वाला अलायुध बार-बार कौन्तेय पर पत्थर पर तेज किये गये तीव्र बाणों की वर्षा करता रहा।

तथा ते राक्षसाः सर्वे भीमसेनमुपाद्रवन् नानाप्रहरणा भीमास्त्वत्सुतानां जयैषिणः

All the other rākṣasa-s also attacked Bhīmasena. Wishing to ensure the victory of your sons, they wielded many terrible weapons.

अन्य सभी राक्षसों ने भी भीमसेन पर हमला कर दिया। आपके पुत्रों की विजय सुनिश्चित करने की इच्छा से उन्होंने अनेक भयानक अस्त्र-शस्त्र चलाये।

स ताड्यमानो बलिभिर्भीमसेनो महाबलः पञ्चभिः पञ्चभिः सर्वांस्तानविध्यच्छितैः शरैः

The immensely strong Bhīmasena was afflicted by those strong ones. He pierced each of them with five sharp arrows.

अत्यंत बलशाली भीमसेन उन बलवानों से पीड़ित हो गये। उसने उनमें से प्रत्येक को पाँच तीखे बाणों से घायल कर दिया।

ते वध्यमाना भीमेन राक्षसाः खरयोनयः विनेदुस्तुमुलान्नादान्दुद्रुवुश्च दिशो दश

Those rākṣasa-s, born from the wombs of asses, were slaughtered by Bhīmā. They wailed loudly in lamentation and fled in the ten directions.

गधी के गर्भ से जन्मे उन राक्षसों का भीम ने वध कर दिया। वे जोर-जोर से विलाप करते हुए दसों दिशाओं में भाग गये।

तांस्त्रास्यमानान्भीमेन दृष्ट्वा रक्षो महाबलम् अभिदुद्राव वेगेन शरैश्चैनमवाकिरत्

On seeing that his followers had been terrorized by Bhīmā, the immensely strong rākṣasa attacked with great force and covered him with arrows.

यह देखकर कि उसके अनुयायी भीम से आतंकित हो गये हैं, अत्यंत बलशाली राक्षस ने बड़ी ताकत से हमला किया और उसे बाणों से ढक दिया।

तं भीमसेनः समरे तीक्ष्णाग्रैरक्षिणोच्छरैः अलायुधस्तु तानस्तान्भीमेन विशिखान्रणे चिच्छेद कांश्चित्समरे त्वरया कांश्चिदग्रहीत्

In that encounter, Bhimsena used sharp arrows that were pointed at the tip against the rākṣasa. Alāyudha severed some of the arrows that were shot by Bhīmā in the battle. In the encounter, he quickly received some of the others.

उस मुठभेड़ में भीमसेन ने राक्षस के विरुद्ध नुकीले तीरों का प्रयोग किया। अलायुध ने युद्ध में भीम द्वारा चलाये गये कुछ बाणों को काट दिया। मुठभेड़ में, उसने तुरंत कुछ अन्य लोगों को प्राप्त कर लिया।

स तं दृष्ट्वा राक्षसेन्द्रं भीमो भीमपराक्रमः गदां चिक्षेप वेगेन वज्रपातोपमां तदा

On seeing this, Bhīmā, whose valour was terrible, powerfully hurled a club at the Indra among the rākṣasa-s.

यह देखकर, भीम ने, जिनकी वीरता भयानक थी, राक्षसों के बीच इंद्र पर शक्तिशाली रूप से एक गदा फेंकी।

तामापतन्तीं वेगेन गदां ज्वालाकुलां ततः गदया ताडयामास सा गदा भीममाव्रजत्

Its descent was like that of the thunder. The club descended powerfully, like a flaming fire. Having struck the club down with a club, he advanced towards Bhīmā.

इसका अवतरण वज्र के समान था। गदा धधकती हुई आग की तरह शक्तिशाली ढंग से नीचे उतरा। गदा पर गदा मारकर वह भीम की ओर बढ़ा।

स राक्षसेन्द्रं कौन्तेयः शरवर्षैरवाकिरत् तानप्यस्याकरोन्मोघान्राक्षसो निशितैः शरैः

Kaunteya countered the Indra among rākṣasa-s with a shower of arrows. Using his own sharp arrows, the rākṣasa rendered all of them unsuccessful.

कौन्तेय ने बाणों की वर्षा से राक्षसराज इन्द्र का मुकाबला किया। राक्षस ने अपने तीखे बाणों का प्रयोग करके उन सभी को असफल कर दिया।

ते चापि राक्षसाः सर्वे सैनिका भीमरूपिणः शासनाद्राक्षसेन्द्रस्य निजघ्नू रथकुञ्जरान्

Instructed by the Indra among the rākṣasa-s, all the rākṣasa soldiers, terrible in form, returned and began to kill the rāṭha-s and the elephants.

राक्षसों के बीच इंद्र द्वारा निर्देश दिए जाने पर, भयानक रूप वाले सभी राक्षस सैनिक वापस लौट आए और रथों और हाथियों को मारना शुरू कर दिया।

पाञ्चालाः सृञ्जयाश्चैव वाजिनः परमद्विपाः न शान्तिं लेभिरे तत्र रक्षसैर्भृशपीडिताः

Severely afflicted by the rākṣasa-s, the Pāñcāla-s, the Sṛñjaya-s, the horses and the supreme elephants could not find any peace there.

राक्षसों, पंचालों, सृंजय, घोड़ों और श्रेष्ठ हाथियों से अत्यंत पीड़ित होकर उन्हें वहां शांति नहीं मिल सकी।

तं तु दृष्ट्वा महाघोरं वर्तमानं महाहवे अब्रवीत्पुरुषश्रेष्ठो धनंजयमिदं वचः

On seeing that this extremely terrible encounter was going on in the great battle, the best of men spoke these words to Dhanañjayā.

यह देखकर कि महान युद्ध में यह अत्यंत भयानक मुठभेड़ हो रही थी, श्रेष्ठ पुरुषों ने धनंजय से ये शब्द कहे।

पश्य भीमं महाबाहो राक्षसेन्द्रवशं गतम् पदवीमस्य गच्छ त्वं मा विचारय पाण्डव

"Behold. The mighty-armed Bhīmā has come under the grasp of the Indra among the rākṣasa-s. O Pāṇḍava! Do not hesitate. Follow in his footsteps.

"देखो। महाबाहु भीम राक्षसों के बीच इंद्र की पकड़ में आ गया है। हे पांडव! संकोच मत करो। उसके नक्शेकदम पर चलो।"

धृष्टद्युम्नः शिखण्डी च युधामन्यूत्तमौजसौ सहिता द्रौपदेयाश्च कर्णं यान्तु महारथाः

The mahāratha-s Dhṛṣṭadyumna, Śikhaṇḍī, Yudhāmanyu, Uttamouja and Draupadī's sons will go and fight with Karṇa.

महारथी धृष्टद्युम्न, शिखंडी, युधामन्यु, उत्तमौजा और द्रौपदी के पुत्र जाकर कर्ण से युद्ध करेंगे।

नकुलः सहदेवश्च युयुधानश्च वीर्यवान् इतरान्राक्षसान्घ्नन्तु शासनात्तव पाण्डव

O Pāṇḍava! On your instructions, let Nākula, Sahadeva and the valiant Yuyudhāna kill all the other rākṣasa-s.

हे पाण्डव! आपके आदेश पर नकुल, सहदेव और वीर युयुधान अन्य सभी राक्षसों को मार डालें।

त्वमपीमां महाबाहो चमूं द्रोणपुरस्कृताम् वारयस्व नरव्याघ्र महद्धि भयमागतम्

O mighty-armed one! As for you, counter this army of Droṇa's that is in front of us. O tiger among men! Counter the grave danger that has arisen before us now."

हे महाबाहु! जहाँ तक तुम्हारी बात है, हमारे सामने द्रोण की इस सेना का मुकाबला करो। हे मनुष्यों में बाघ! उस गंभीर खतरे का मुकाबला करें जो अब हमारे सामने खड़ा हो गया है।”

एवमुक्ते तु कृष्णेन यथोद्दिष्टा महारथाः जग्मुर्वैकर्तनं कर्णं राक्षसांश्चेतरान्रणे

Having been addressed by Kṛṣṇā, those mahāratha-s followed the instructions and advanced against Vaikartaṇa Karṇa and the other rākṣasa-s in the battle.

कृष्ण द्वारा संबोधित किए जाने पर, उन महारथियों ने निर्देशों का पालन किया और युद्ध में वैकर्तन कर्ण और अन्य राक्षसों के खिलाफ आगे बढ़े।

अथ पूर्णायतोत्सृष्टैः शरैराशीविषोपमैः धनुश्चिच्छेद भीमस्य राक्षसेन्द्रः प्रतापवान्

The powerful Indra among the rākṣasa-s drew his bow all the way back and released arrows that were like venomous serpents, using these to sever Bhīmā's bow.

राक्षसों के बीच शक्तिशाली इंद्र ने अपना धनुष बिल्कुल पीछे खींच लिया और जहरीले सांपों की तरह तीर छोड़े, जिनका उपयोग भीम के धनुष को तोड़ने के लिए किया।

हयांश्चास्य शितैर्बाणैः सारथिं च महाबलः जघान मिषतः संख्ये भीमसेनस्य भारत

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! While Bhīmasena looked on, in that encounter, the immensely strong one used sharp arrows to kill his horses and charioteer.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! जब भीमसेन देखते रहे, उस मुठभेड़ में, अत्यंत बलवान ने उनके घोड़ों और सारथी को मारने के लिए तीखे बाणों का इस्तेमाल किया।

सोऽवतीर्य रथोपस्थाद्धताश्वो हतसारथिः तस्मै गुर्वीं गदां घोरां स विनद्योत्ससर्ज ह

With his horses slain and with his charioteer killed, he descended from his chariot. He roared and hurled a terrible and heavy club towards him.

अपने घोड़ों के मारे जाने और अपने सारथी के मारे जाने के बाद, वह अपने रथ से नीचे उतर आया। उसने दहाड़ते हुए उसकी ओर एक भयानक और भारी गदा फेंकी।

ततस्तां भीमनिर्घोषामापतन्तीं महागदाम् गदया राक्षसो घोरो निजघान ननाद च

The mighty club descended with a terrible noise. However, the rākṣasa roared and destroyed it with his own terrible club.

शक्तिशाली गदा भयानक शोर के साथ उतरी। हालाँकि, राक्षस ने दहाड़ते हुए उसे अपनी भयानक गदा से नष्ट कर दिया।

तद्दृष्ट्वा राक्षसेन्द्रस्य घोरं कर्म भयावहम् भीमसेनः प्रहृष्टात्मा गदामाशु परामृशत्

On seeing that terrible and fearful deed performed by the Indra among the rākṣasa-s, Bhīmasena was delighted. He quickly seized another supreme club.

राक्षसों के बीच इंद्र द्वारा किए गए उस भयानक और भयानक कार्य को देखकर भीमसेन प्रसन्न हुए। उसने शीघ्र ही एक और सर्वोच्च क्लब पर कब्ज़ा कर लिया।

तयोः समभवद्युद्धं तुमुलं नररक्षसोः गदानिपातसंह्रादैर्भुवं कम्पयतोर्भृशम्

There was a tumultuous battle between the man and the rākṣasa. As the clubs descended, the earth trembled severely with that force.

मनुष्य और राक्षस के बीच घमासान युद्ध हुआ। जैसे ही गदाएँ उतरीं, पृथ्वी उस बल से बुरी तरह कांप उठी।

गदाविमुक्तौ तौ भूयः समासाद्येतरेतरम् मुष्टिभिर्वज्रसंह्रादैरन्योन्यमभिजघ्नतुः

They cast aside their clubs and again clashed against each other. They struck each other with their fists, with a sound like that of the thunder.

उन्होंने अपने क्लब एक तरफ फेंक दिये और फिर एक-दूसरे से भिड़ गये। उन्होंने एक दूसरे पर मुक्कों से प्रहार किया, जिसकी ध्वनि गड़गड़ाहट के समान थी।

रथचक्रैर्युगैरक्षैरधिष्ठानैरुपस्करैः यथासन्नमुपादाय निजघ्नतुरमर्षणौ

Extremely intolerant, they struck each other with the wheels of chariots, yokes, axles, bumpers and seats.

अत्यंत असहिष्णु होकर, उन्होंने एक-दूसरे को रथों के पहियों, जुए, धुरी, बम्पर और सीटों से मारा।

तौ विक्षरन्तौ रुधिरं समासाद्येतरेतरम् मत्ताविव महानागावकृष्येतां पुनः पुनः

They clashed against each other and blood flowed from their wounds. They repeatedly attacked each other, like crazy and giant elephants.

वे एक-दूसरे से भिड़ गये और उनके घावों से खून बहने लगा। वे पागल और विशाल हाथियों की तरह बार-बार एक-दूसरे पर हमला करते थे।

तमपश्यद्धृषीकेशः पाण्डवानां हिते रतः स भीमसेनरक्षार्थं हैडिम्बं प्रत्यचोदयत्

Hṛṣīkeśa was engaged in the welfare of the Pāṇḍava-s. On seeing this, he instructed Hiḍimbā's son to protect Bhīmasena.

हृषिकेश पांडवों के कल्याण में लगे हुए थे। यह देखकर उन्होंने हिडिम्बा के पुत्र को भीमसेन की रक्षा करने का निर्देश दिया।
