संजय उवाच सौभद्रस्तु वचः श्रुत्वा धर्मराजस्य धीमतः अचोदयत यन्तारं द्रोणानीकाय भारत

Sañjaya said: O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Having heard the words of the intelligent Dharmarāja, Subhadrā's son urged his charioteer towards Droṇa's array.

संजय ने कहा: हे भरत वंश के वंशज! बुद्धिमान धर्मराज के वचन सुनकर सुभद्रा के पुत्र ने अपने सारथी को द्रोण के व्यूह की ओर प्रेरित किया।

तेन संचोद्यमानस्तु याहि याहीति सारथिः प्रत्युवाच ततो राजन्नभिमन्युमिदं वचः

The charioteer was urged with the words, "Go! Go!" O king! He replied to Abhimanyu in these words.

सारथी को इन शब्दों में आग्रह किया गया, "जाओ! जाओ!" हे राजा! उन्होंने अभिमन्यु को इन शब्दों में जवाब दिया.

अतिभारोऽयमायुष्मन्नाहितस्त्वयि पाण्डवैः संप्रधार्य क्षमं बुद्ध्या ततस्त्वं योद्धुमर्हसि

"O one with a long life! An extremely heavy burden has been imposed on you by the Pāṇḍava-s. You should advance to the fight only after you have thought over whether you have the capacity to bear this.

"हे दीर्घ आयु वाले! पांडवों द्वारा आप पर बहुत भारी बोझ डाला गया है। आपको यह सोचने के बाद ही युद्ध में आगे बढ़ना चाहिए कि क्या आपमें इसे सहन करने की क्षमता है या नहीं।

आचार्यो हि कृती द्रोणः परमास्त्रे कृतश्रमः अत्यन्तसुखसंवृद्धस्त्वं च युद्धविशारदः

Droṇa, the preceptor, is skilled in the use of supreme weapons and has conquered exhaustion. You have been reared in extreme happiness and are not skilled in fighting."

द्रोण, गुरु, सर्वोच्च हथियारों के उपयोग में कुशल हैं और उन्होंने थकावट पर विजय पा ली है। तुम्हारा पालन-पोषण अत्यंत सुख में हुआ है और तुम युद्ध में कुशल नहीं हो।”

ततोऽभिमन्युः प्रहसन्सारथिं वाक्यमब्रवीत् सारथे को न्वयं द्रोणः समग्रं क्षत्रमेव वा

On hearing these words, Abhimanyu laughed and spoke to his charioteer. "O charioteer! Who is Droṇa? Who are these assembled kṣatriya-s?

ये बातें सुनकर अभिमन्यु हंसा और अपने सारथी से बोला। "हे सारथी! द्रोण कौन है? ये एकत्रित क्षत्रिय कौन हैं?"

ऐरावतगतं शक्रं सहामरगणैरहम् योधयेयं रणमुखे न मे क्षत्रेऽद्य विस्मयः न ममैतद्द्विषत्सैन्यं कलामर्हति षोडशीम्

Even if Śākra on Airāvata advances in the forefront of the battle, with the masses of immortals, I will engage. Today, I am not bewildered at these kṣatriya-s. These enemy soldiers are not even a sixteenth part of me.

भले ही ऐरावत पर सवार होकर शक्र अमरों की भीड़ के साथ युद्ध में सबसे आगे बढ़े, मैं युद्ध में शामिल हो जाऊंगा। आज, मैं इन क्षत्रियों पर हतप्रभ नहीं हूं। ये शत्रु सैनिक मेरे सोलहवें भाग भी नहीं हैं।

अपि विश्वजितं विष्णुं मातुलं प्राप्य सूतज पितरं चार्जुनं संख्ये न भीर्मामुपयास्यति

O son of a sūta! Even if I were to confront my maternal uncle Viṣṇu, the conqueror of the universe, or my father in battle, I would not be terrified."

हे सूतपुत्र! यहां तक ​​कि अगर मुझे युद्ध में अपने मामा विष्णु, ब्रह्मांड के विजेता, या अपने पिता का सामना करना पड़े, तो भी मैं भयभीत नहीं होऊंगा।"

ततोऽभिमन्युस्तां वाचं कदर्थीकृत्य सारथेः याहीत्येवाब्रवीदेनं द्रोणानीकाय माचिरम्

Abhimanyu disregarded the words of the charioteer and instructed him to swiftly drive towards Droṇa's array.

अभिमन्यु ने सारथी की बातों पर ध्यान नहीं दिया और उसे तेजी से द्रोण की सेना की ओर बढ़ने का निर्देश दिया।

ततः संचोदयामास हयानस्य त्रिहायनान् नातिहृष्टमनाः सूतो हेमभाण्डपरिच्छदान्

The charioteer was distressed in heart. But he urged the horses, which were three years old and decorated with golden harnesses.

सारथी मन में व्यथित था। लेकिन उसने घोड़ों से आग्रह किया, जो तीन साल के थे और सुनहरे हार से सजाए गए थे।

ते प्रेषिताः सुमित्रेण द्रोणानीकाय वाजिनः द्रोणमभ्यद्रवन्राजन्महावेगपराक्रमाः

Thus goaded by Sumitrā, the horses advanced towards Droṇa's array. O king! Without any fear and with great force and valour, they advanced against Droṇa himself.

इस प्रकार सुमित्रा के उकसाने पर घोड़े द्रोण के व्यूह की ओर बढ़े। हे राजा! वे बिना किसी डर के और बड़ी ताकत और वीरता के साथ द्रोण के विरुद्ध आगे बढ़े।

तमुदीक्ष्य तथायान्तं सर्वे द्रोणपुरोगमाः अभ्यवर्तन्त कौरव्याः पाण्डवाश्च तमन्वयुः

On seeing him attack, all the Kaurava-s, with Droṇa at the forefront, advanced to meet him and all the Pāṇḍava-s followed him.

उसे हमला करते देख, द्रोण को सबसे आगे लेकर सभी कौरव उससे मिलने के लिए आगे बढ़े और सभी पांडव उसके पीछे हो लिए।

स कर्णिकारप्रवरोच्छ्रितध्वजः; सुवर्णवर्मार्जुनिरर्जुनाद्वरः युयुत्सया द्रोणमुखान्महारथा;न्समासदत्सिंहशिशुर्यथा गजान्

His supreme standard bore the marks of a karṇikāra. He was clad in golden armour. Arjuna's son was superior to Arjuna himself. He wished to fight with the mahāratha-s, with Droṇa at the forefront. He was like a young lion attacking a herd of elephants.

उनके सर्वोच्च मानक पर कर्णिकार के चिह्न थे। वह स्वर्ण कवच पहने हुए था। अर्जुन का पुत्र स्वयं अर्जुन से श्रेष्ठ था। वह द्रोण को सबसे आगे रखकर महारथियों से युद्ध करना चाहता था। वह हाथियों के झुंड पर हमला करने वाले एक युवा शेर की तरह था।

ते विंशतिपदे यत्ताः संप्रहारं प्रचक्रिरे आसीद्गाङ्ग इवावर्तो मुहूर्तमुदधेरिव

He sought to attack them and advanced twenty steps. In an instant, there was a melee, like when the whirl of the Gāṅga meets the ocean.

The brave ones fought and killed each other. O king! An extremely tumultuous and terrible battle commenced.

प्रवर्तमाने संग्रामे तस्मिन्नतिभयंकरे द्रोणस्य मिषतो व्यूहं भित्त्वा प्राविशदार्जुनिः

While that fearful battle raged, in Droṇa's sight, Arjuna's son shattered and penetrated the vyūha.

जब वह भयानक युद्ध छिड़ गया, तो द्रोण की दृष्टि में, अर्जुन का पुत्र चूर-चूर हो गया और व्यूह में घुस गया।

तं प्रविष्टं परान्घ्नन्तं शत्रुमध्ये महाबलम् हस्त्यश्वरथपत्त्यौघाः परिवव्रुरुदायुधाः

The immensely strong one penetrated into the midst of the enemy and began to slaughter the foes. Warriors on elephants, horses and chariots, armed with weapons, descended on him and surrounded him.

वह अत्यंत बलशाली शत्रु के बीच में घुस गया और शत्रुओं का संहार करने लगा। हाथियों, घोड़ों और रथों पर सवार, अस्त्र-शस्त्रों से सुसज्जित योद्धा उस पर उतरे और उसे घेर लिया।

नानावादित्रनिनदैः क्ष्वेडितोत्क्रुष्टगर्जितैः हुंकारैः सिंहनादैश्च तिष्ठ तिष्ठेति निस्वनैः

There was the sound of musical instruments. There were sounds of the slapping of arms and roars. There were roars like lions and shouts of "Stay! Stay!"

वाद्ययंत्रों की ध्वनि थी। हथियारों की थाप और दहाड़ की आवाजें आ रही थीं। शेरों जैसी दहाड़ें और "ठहरो! ठहरो!" की चीखें सुनाई दे रही थीं।

घोरैर्हलहलाशब्दैर्मा गास्तिष्ठैहि मामिति असावहममुत्रेति प्रवदन्तो मुहुर्मुहुः

There were terrible and repeated exclamations of "Do not go! Wait! Come to me! I am here! That is the enemy!"

भयानक और बार-बार चिल्लाने की आवाज़ आ रही थी "मत जाओ! रुको! मेरे पास आओ! मैं यहाँ हूँ! वह दुश्मन है!"

बृंहितैः शिञ्जितैर्हासैः खुरनेमिस्वनैरपि संनादयन्तो वसुधामभिदुद्रुवुरार्जुनिम्

Resounding the earth with bellows, tinkling sounds, laughter, and the sounds of hooves and rims, they rushed towards Arjuna's son.

वे धौंकनी, टंकार, हंसी तथा खुरों और तालों की आवाज से पृथ्वी को गुंजायमान करते हुए अर्जुन के पुत्र की ओर दौड़ पड़े।

तेषामापततां वीरः पूर्वं शीघ्रमथो दृढम् क्षिप्रास्त्रो न्यवधीद्व्रातान्मर्मज्ञो मर्मभेदिभिः

But the brave one was swift and firm. He killed them. He was quick in using weapons that penetrated the inner organs and knew about the inner organs.

लेकिन बहादुर तेज़ और दृढ़ था। उसने उन्हें मार डाला. वह अंदरूनी अंगों को भेदने वाले हथियार चलाने में तेज था और अंदरूनी अंगों के बारे में जानता था।

ततस्तेषां शरीरैश्च शरीरावयवैश्च सः संतस्तार क्षितिं क्षिप्रं कुशैर्वेदिमिवाध्वरे

He swiftly covered the earth with their bodies and limbs severed from their bodies, like a priest covering an altar with kuśa gras-s.

whips, giant conch shells, spears, kacagraha-s, maces, slings, nooses, heavy maces and stones.

चाबुक, विशाल शंख, भाले, कचग्रह, गदा, गोफन, पाश, भारी गदा और पत्थर।

सकेयूराङ्गदान्बाहून्हृद्यगन्धानुलेपनान् संचिच्छेदार्जुनिर्वृत्तांस्त्वदीयानां सहस्रशः

Those arms were decorated with armlets and bracelets and smeared with fragrances and unguents. Arjuna's son severed the arms of those on your side in thousands.

वे भुजाएँ बाजूबंदों और कंगनों से सुशोभित थीं तथा सुगन्ध और द्रव्यों से युक्त थीं। अर्जुन के पुत्र ने आपके पक्ष के हजारों लोगों की भुजाएँ काट डालीं।

तैः स्फुरद्भिर्महाराज शुशुभे लोहितोक्षितैः पञ्चास्यैः पन्नगैश्छिन्नैर्गरुडेनेव मारिष

O great king! Covered with blood, they were strewn around on the ground and looked radiant. O venerable one! It was as if five-headed serpents had been slain by Gāruḍa.

हे महान राजा! वे खून से लथपथ होकर जमीन पर इधर-उधर बिखरे हुए थे और दीप्तिमान दिख रहे थे। हे आदरणीय! यह ऐसा था मानो गरुड़ द्वारा पाँच सिर वाले साँपों को मार दिया गया हो।

सुनासाननकेशान्तैरव्रणैश्चारुकुण्डलैः संदष्टौष्ठपुटैः क्रोधात्क्षरद्भिः शोणितं बहु

There were many heads with beautiful noses, faces and hair, without the marks of wounds and adorned with beautiful earrings. Copious quantities of blood flowed from these and the teeth gnashed the lips in anger.

सुंदर नाक, चेहरे और बालों वाले, घावों के निशान रहित और सुंदर बालियों से सुशोभित बहुत से सिर थे। इनमें से प्रचुर मात्रा में रक्त बह गया और गुस्से में होठों को दाँतों से पीस डाला।

चारुस्रङ्मुकुटोष्णीषैर्मणिरत्नविराजितैः विनालनलिनाकारैर्दिवाकरशशिप्रभैः

They were adorned with beautiful garlands and headdresses, embellished with gems and jewels. They were like lotuses severed from the stalks and possessed the radiance of the sun or the moon.

Once upon a time, they could speak many beneficial and pleasant words and were smeared with sacred fragrances. Phālguna's son covered the earth with the heads of the enemy.

There were many excellent chariots, with forms like the cities of the gāndharva-s. They possessed shafts in the front and curved staffs made out of bamboo poles.

वहाँ गन्धर्वों के नगरों के समान आकार वाले अनेक उत्तम रथ थे। उनके सामने बाँस के डंडों से बनी हुई छड़ें और घुमावदार छड़ें थीं।

विजङ्घकूबराक्षांश्च विनेमीननरानपि विचक्रोपस्करोपस्थान्भग्नोपकरणानपि

Their shafts, yokes and wheels were shattered. They were bereft of their axles and pins. They lost their wheels, standards and seats and the expensive cushions were also scattered.

उनके बाण, जूए और पहिये टूट गये। वे अपनी धुरियों और पिनों से वंचित थे। उनके पहिए, मानक और सीटें खो गईं और महंगे गद्दे भी बिखर गए।

प्रशातितोपकरणान्हतयोधान्सहस्रशः शरैर्विशकलीकुर्वन्दिक्षु सर्वास्वदृश्यत

The implements of war were scattered and thousands of riders slain. Everything that could be seen was mangled with his arrows.

युद्ध के उपकरण तितर-बितर हो गये और हजारों सवार मारे गये। जो कुछ भी देखा जा सकता था वह उसके बाणों से क्षत-विक्षत हो गया था।

पुनर्द्विपान्द्विपारोहान्वैजयन्त्यङ्कुशध्वजान् तूणान्वर्माण्यथो कक्ष्या ग्रैवेयानथ कम्बलान्

He used sharp arrows, honed at the tip, to slice down the enemy riders on elephants, with their flags, goads and pennants, quivers, armour, seats, reins and blankets,

उन्होंने हाथियों पर सवार शत्रु सवारों को उनके झंडों, अंकुशों और पताकाओं, तरकशों, कवचों, आसनों, लगामों और कम्बलों सहित काटने के लिए नोक पर तराशे हुए तीखे बाणों का प्रयोग किया।

The warriors who rode on them were accomplished and wielded spears, swords and lances. They were strewn around, deprived of cushions and whisks.

Their tongues lolled out. The eyes were detached and the entrails and livers were plucked out. Their harnesses were torn and their riders were killed. This delighted large numbers of flesh-eaters.

निकृत्तवर्मकवचाञ्शकृन्मूत्रासृगाप्लुतान् निपातयन्नश्ववरांस्तावकान्सोऽभ्यरोचत

The mail and armour was sliced away and they were covered in urine and excrement. Thus bringing down the best of your horses, he was resplendent.

He accomplished these difficult deeds alone, like the unfathomable Viṣṇu in earlier times. He crushed your giant army with the three kinds of forces. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! He also killed your foot soldiers.

उन्होंने पहले के समय में अथाह विष्णु की तरह इन कठिन कार्यों को अकेले ही पूरा किया। उसने तीन प्रकार की सेनाओं से आपकी विशाल सेना को कुचल डाला। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! उसने आपके पैदल सैनिकों को भी मार डाला।

एवमेकेन तां सेनां सौभद्रेण शितैः शरैः भृशं विप्रहतां दृष्ट्वा स्कन्देनेवासुरीं चमूम्

Using sharp arrows, Subhadrā's son was seen to single-handedly destroy your soldiers, like Skānda against the āsura army.

सुभद्रा के पुत्र को स्कन्द की भाँति असुर सेना के विरुद्ध अकेले ही तीखे बाणों द्वारा आपके सैनिकों को नष्ट करते देखा गया।

त्वदीयास्तव पुत्राश्च वीक्षमाणा दिशो दश संशुष्कास्याश्चलन्नेत्राः प्रस्विन्ना लोमहर्षणाः

Those on your side and your sons glanced in the ten directions. Their mouths were dry. Their eyes were restless. They were covered with sweat and their body hair stood up.

आपके पक्ष के लोगों और आपके पुत्रों ने दसों दिशाओं में दृष्टि डाली। उनके मुँह सूख गये थे। उनकी आँखें बेचैन थीं. वे पसीने से लथपथ थे और उनके शरीर के बाल खड़े थे।

They lost all interest in vanquishing the enemy and made up their minds to flee. Wishing to remain alive, they cried and called out to each other by name and lineage.

शत्रु को पराजित करने में उनकी रुचि समाप्त हो गई और उन्होंने भागने का मन बना लिया। जीवित रहने की कामना करते हुए, वे रोये और एक-दूसरे को नाम और वंश से पुकारा।

हतान्पुत्रांस्तथा पितॄन्सुहृत्संबन्धिबान्धवान् प्रातिष्ठन्त समुत्सृज्य त्वरयन्तो हयद्विपान्

They abandoned wounded sons, fathers, well-wishers, relatives and kin. They urged their horses and elephants, so that they could run away quickly.
