धृतराष्ट्र उवाच बाणे तस्मिन्निकृत्ते तु धृष्टद्युम्ने च मोक्षिते तेन वृष्णिप्रवीरेण युयुधानेन संजय

Dhṛtarāṣṭra asked: "O Sañjaya! After the arrows had been severed and Dhṛṣṭadyumna had been freed by Yuyudhāna, foremost among the Vṛṣṇi lineage, what did the intolerant and

धृतराष्ट्र ने पूछा: "हे संजय! जब बाणों को काट दिया गया और धृष्टद्युम्न को वृष्णि वंश में अग्रणी युयुधान ने मुक्त कर दिया, तो असहिष्णु ने क्या किया?

अमर्षितो महेष्वासः सर्वशस्त्रभृतां वरः नरव्याघ्रः शिनेः पौत्रे द्रोणः किमकरोद्युधि

great archer, supreme among the wielders of all weapons, do? How did Droṇa fight against Śini's grandson, the tiger among men?"

महान धनुर्धर, सभी शस्त्रधारियों में सर्वोच्च, क्या? द्रोण ने शिनि के पोते, मनुष्यों में बाघ, के विरुद्ध कैसे युद्ध किया?"

संजय उवाच संप्रद्रुतः क्रोधविषो व्यादितास्यशरासनः तीक्ष्णधारेषुदशनः शितनाराचदंष्ट्रवान्

Sañjaya replied: He was venomous in his rage. His extended bow was like a gaping mouth. The sharp and iron arrows were like his teeth.

संजय ने उत्तर दिया: वह क्रोध में विषैला था। उसका फैला हुआ धनुष खुले हुए मुँह जैसा था। तीखे और लोहे के बाण उसके दाँतों के समान थे।

संरम्भामर्षताम्राक्षो महाहिरिव निःश्वसन् नरवीरप्रमुदितैः शोणैरश्वैर्महाजवैः

His eyes were coppery red with wrath. He sighed like a giant serpent. The brave one among men was delighted. He was borne on extremely fast and red steeds.

उसकी आंखें क्रोध से तांबे जैसी लाल थीं। उसने एक विशाल साँप की तरह आह भरी। मनुष्यों में वीर प्रसन्न हुआ। वह अत्यंत तेज़ और लाल रंग के घोड़ों पर सवार था।

उत्पतद्भिरिवाकाशं क्रमद्भिरिव सर्वतः रुक्मपुङ्खाञ्शरानस्यन्युयुधानमुपाद्रवत्

In every direction, he seemed to leap up into the sky, or climb up mountains. He showered gold-tufted arrows and attacked Yuyudhāna.

हर दिशा में, वह आकाश में छलांग लगाता हुआ, या पहाड़ों पर चढ़ता हुआ प्रतीत होता था। उसने स्वर्ण-जटित बाणों की वर्षा की और युयुधान पर आक्रमण किया।

शरपातमहावर्षं रथघोषबलाहकम् कार्मुकाकर्षविक्षिप्तं नाराचबहुविद्युतम्

He brought down a mighty shower of arrows and the roar of his chariot was like that of the slayer of Bāla. He stretched his bow and released many iron arrows that seemed to be tinged with lightning.

उसने बाणों की प्रचंड वर्षा की और उसके रथ की गर्जना बाला के हत्यारे की गर्जना के समान थी। उसने अपना धनुष बढ़ाया और बहुत से लोहे के तीर छोड़े जो बिजली की तरह चमकते हुए प्रतीत होते थे।

शक्तिखड्गाशनिधरं क्रोधवेगसमुत्थितम् द्रोणमेघमनावार्यं हयमारुतचोदितम्

His lances and swords were like those of the wielder of the vajra. They seemed to have been stirred by the force of his anger. Droṇa was like an unassailable cloud and his horses seemed to have been urged on by the wind.

उसके भाले और तलवारें वज्रधारी के समान थीं। ऐसा प्रतीत होता था कि वे उसके क्रोध की प्रबलता से उत्तेजित हो गये थे। द्रोण एक अजेय बादल के समान थे और उनके घोड़े हवा से प्रेरित प्रतीत होते थे।

दृष्ट्वैवाभिपतन्तं तं शूरः परपुरंजयः उवाच सूतं शैनेयः प्रहसन्युद्धदुर्मदः

Śini's brave descendant, the destroyer of enemy cities, saw him descend. He was invincible in battle and laughingly told his charioteer,

शिनि के बहादुर वंशज, शत्रु शहरों को नष्ट करने वाले, ने उसे उतरते देखा। वह युद्ध में अजेय था और उसने हँसते हुए अपने सारथी से कहा,

एतं वै ब्राह्मणं क्रूरं स्वकर्मण्यनवस्थितम् आश्रयं धार्तराष्ट्रस्य राज्ञो दुःखभयावहम्

"his brāhmaṇa is cruel. He has been dislodged from his own duties. The preceptor is the refuge of the king who is Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son, his relief from fearful grief.

"उसका ब्राह्मण क्रूर है। उसे अपने कर्तव्यों से बेदखल कर दिया गया है। गुरु धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्र राजा का आश्रय है, भयानक दुःख से उसकी राहत है।

शीघ्रं प्रजवितैरश्वैः प्रत्युद्याहि प्रहृष्टवत् आचार्यं राजपुत्राणां सततं शूरमानिनम्

That prince is always insolent about his bravery. Swiftly and cheerfully, urge the horses to use their greatest speed and let us go and fight against him."

वह राजकुमार सदैव अपनी वीरता का ढिंढोरा पीटता रहता है। तेजी से और खुशी से, घोड़ों को अपनी सबसे तेज गति का उपयोग करने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करें और हमें जाकर उसके खिलाफ लड़ने दें।''

ततो रजतसंकाशा माधवस्य हयोत्तमाः द्रोणस्याभिमुखाः शीघ्रमगच्छन्वातरंहसः

Mādhava's supreme horses were like silver in their complexion. They possessed the speed of the wind and they swiftly advanced towards Droṇa.

माधव के श्रेष्ठ घोड़े चांदी के समान रंग के थे। उनके पास वायु की गति थी और वे तेजी से द्रोण की ओर बढ़े।

इषुजालावृतं घोरमन्धकारमनन्तरम् अनाधृष्यमिवान्येषां शूराणामभवत्तदा

Those two brave ones fought against each other and everything was covered with a net of arrows, so that it became intolerable to others.

वे दोनों वीर एक-दूसरे के विरुद्ध लड़े और सब कुछ बाणों के जाल से ढक दिया गया, जिससे यह दूसरों के लिए असहनीय हो गया।

ततः शीघ्रास्त्रविदुषोर्द्रोणसात्वतयोस्तदा नान्तरं शरवृष्टीनां दृश्यते नरसिंहयोः

There was a fearful darkness, without any gaps. Both Droṇa and Sātvata were skilled in using their weapons swiftly. Those two lions among men were seen to shower down arrows incessantly.

वहाँ एक भयावह अँधेरा था, बिना किसी अंतराल के। द्रोण और सात्वत दोनों ही अपने हथियारों का तेजी से उपयोग करने में कुशल थे। वे दोनों नरश्रेष्ठ निरन्तर बाणों की वर्षा करते देखे गये।

इषूणां संनिपातेन शब्दो धाराभिघातजः शुश्रुवे शक्रमुक्तानामशनीनामिव स्वनः

As the torrent of arrows showered down and struck each other, the sound that was heard was like the sound when Śākra releases his vajra.

जैसे ही बाणों की धार बरसने लगी और एक-दूसरे से टकराने लगी, जो ध्वनि सुनाई दी वह उस ध्वनि के समान थी जब शक्र ने अपना वज्र छोड़ा था।

नाराचैरतिविद्धानां शराणां रूपमाबभौ आशीविषविदष्टानां सर्पाणामिव भारत

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! They were pierced by iron arrows and their forms looked like those of snakes which had been struck by venomous serpents.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! वे लोहे के बाणों से बिंधे हुए थे और उनका रूप विषैले नागों द्वारा मारे गए साँपों के समान था।

तयोर्ज्यातलनिर्घोषो व्यश्रूयत सुदारुणः अजस्रं शैलशृङ्गाणां वज्रेणाहन्यतामिव

The extremely terrible sound of bowstrings and palms slapping was heard. It was like that of innumerable mountain tops shattered by thunder.

धनुष की प्रत्यंचा और हथेलियों के थपथपाने की अत्यंत भयानक ध्वनि सुनाई दी। यह ऐसा था मानो गड़गड़ाहट से असंख्य पर्वत चोटियाँ टूट गयी हों।

उभयोस्तौ रथौ राजंस्ते चाश्वास्तौ च सारथी रुक्मपुङ्खैः शरैश्छन्नाश्चित्ररूपा बभुस्तदा

The chariots, horses and charioteers of both looked beautiful. They were mangled by gold-tufted arrows and looked colourful.

दोनों के रथ, घोड़े और सारथि सुन्दर लग रहे थे। वे सोने के जटित बाणों से क्षत-विक्षत थे और रंग-बिरंगे दिख रहे थे।

निर्मलानामजिह्मानां नाराचानां विशां पते निर्मुक्ताशीविषाभानां संपातोऽभूत्सुदारुणः

O lord of the earth! The iron arrows were bright and flew straight. As they descended, they looked as terrible as snakes that had shed their skins.

हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! लोहे के तीर चमकीले थे और सीधे उड़ते थे। जैसे ही वे नीचे उतरे, वे अपनी खाल उतारे हुए साँपों के समान भयानक लग रहे थे।

उभयोः पतिते छत्रे तथैव पतितौ ध्वजौ उभौ रुधिरसिक्ताङ्गावुभौ च विजयैषिणौ

Both their umbrellas were brought down. Both their standards were also brought down. The limbs of both flowed with blood. But they were both dazzling, as they wished for victory.

दोनों के छाते नीचे गिरा दिये गये। दोनों के मानक भी गिरा दिये गये। दोनों के अंगों से खून बहने लगा। लेकिन वे दोनों तेजस्वी थे, क्योंकि वे जीत की कामना कर रहे थे।

स्रवद्भिः शोणितं गात्रैः प्रस्रुताविव वारणौ अन्योन्यमभिविध्येतां जीवितान्तकरैः शरैः

With blood flowing from their limbs, they looked like exuding elephants. They struck each other with arrows that were fatal.

उनके अंगों से रक्त बहता हुआ वे बहते हुए हाथियों के समान प्रतीत हो रहे थे। उन्होंने एक-दूसरे पर घातक बाणों से प्रहार किया।

गर्जितोत्क्रुष्टसंनादाः शङ्खदुन्दुभिनिस्वनाः उपारमन्महाराज व्याजहार न कश्चन

O great king! The sounds of delighted roars, mixed with the sound of conch shells and drums, ceased, because no one else made any sound.

हे महान राजा! शंख और ढोल की ध्वनि के साथ मिश्रित हर्षोल्लास की आवाजें बंद हो गईं, क्योंकि किसी और ने कोई आवाज नहीं की।

तूष्णींभूतान्यनीकानि योधा युद्धादुपारमन् ददृशे द्वैरथं ताभ्यां जातकौतूहलो जनः

The soldiers in the arrays became silent and the warriors stopped the fighting. Everyone was curious to witness the duel between those two.

व्यूह में बैठे सैनिक शांत हो गए और योद्धाओं ने लड़ाई बंद कर दी। हर कोई उन दोनों के बीच द्वंद्व देखने को उत्सुक था।

रथिनो हस्तियन्तारो हयारोहाः पदातयः अवैक्षन्ताचलैर्नेत्रैः परिवार्य रथर्षभौ

Rāṭha-s, elephant-riders, horse-riders and infantry surrounded those two bulls among men, witnessing what was going on, with unblinking eyes.

रथ-सवार, हाथी-सवार, घुड़सवार और पैदल सेना ने पुरुषों के बीच उन दो बैलों को घेर लिया, जो कुछ भी हो रहा था, उसे बिना पलकें झपकाए देख रहे थे।

हस्त्यनीकान्यतिष्ठन्त तथानीकानि वाजिनाम् तथैव रथवाहिन्यः प्रतिव्यूह्य व्यवस्थिताः

The arrays of elephants stood there, and so did the arrays of horses. There were divisions of chariots, stationed in counter-formation.

वहाँ हाथियों की टोलियाँ खड़ी थीं और घोड़ों की कतारें भी। वहाँ रथों के प्रभाग थे, जो प्रति-संरचना में तैनात थे।

मुक्ताविद्रुमचित्रैश्च मणिकाञ्चनभूषितैः ध्वजैराभरणैश्चित्रैः कवचैश्च हिरण्मयैः

They were colourful with pearls and coral. They were decorated with gems and gold. They were colourful with standards and ornaments and with golden armour.

वे मोतियों और मूंगों से रंग-बिरंगे थे। उन्हें रत्नों और सोने से सजाया गया था। वे ध्वजों, आभूषणों और सुनहरे कवच से रंग-बिरंगे थे।

वैजयन्तीपताकाभिः परिस्तोमाङ्गकम्बलैः विमलैर्निशितैः शस्त्रैर्हयानां च प्रकीर्णकैः

There were vaijayantī flags and caparisons, seats and blankets. There were sparkling and sharp weapons on the horses.

वहां वैजयंती झंडे और टोपी, आसन और कंबल थे। घोड़ों पर चमचमाते और धारदार हथियार थे।

जातरूपमयीभिश्च राजतीभिश्च मूर्धसु गजानां कुम्भमालाभिर्दन्तवेष्टैश्च भारत

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! The frontal lobes of the elephants were decorated with gold and silver and there were garlands around their tusks.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! हाथियों के ललाट को सोने और चाँदी से सजाया गया था और उनके दाँतों के चारों ओर मालाएँ थीं।

सबलाकाः सखद्योताः सैरावतशतह्रदाः अदृश्यन्तोष्णपर्याये मेघानामिव वागुराः

They looked like a net of clouds at the end of the summer, bedecked with cranes and fireflies and decorated with lightning and flashes.

वे गर्मियों के अंत में बादलों के जाल की तरह दिखते थे, जो क्रेन और जुगनू से सजे हुए थे और बिजली और चमक से सजाए गए थे।

Those on our side and those on Yudhiṣṭhira's side were stationed. They wished to witness the battle between Yuyudhāna and the great-souled Droṇa.

विमानाग्रगता देवा ब्रह्मशक्रपुरोगमाः सिद्धचारणसंघाश्च विद्याधरमहोरगाः

The gods assembled on their celestial vehicles, with Brahmā and Śākra at the forefront. There were masses of siddha-s and cāraṇa-s, vidyādhara-s and giant serpents.

देवता अपने दिव्य वाहनों पर एकत्रित हुए, जिनमें ब्रह्मा और शक्र सबसे आगे थे। वहाँ सिद्धों और चारणों, विद्याधरों और विशाल नागों की भीड़ थी।

Those tigers among men displayed wonderful techniques of releasing, withdrawing and hurling weapons and all of them beheld these diverse motions with wonder.

मनुष्यों में से उन बाघों ने हथियार छोड़ने, वापस लेने और फेंकने की अद्भुत तकनीकों का प्रदर्शन किया और उन सभी ने इन विविध गतियों को आश्चर्य से देखा।

The immensely strong ones exhibited the dexterity of their hands in using weapons. Droṇa and Sātyaki pierced each other with their arrows.

अत्यंत बलवानों ने शस्त्र चलाने में अपने हाथों की निपुणता का प्रदर्शन किया। द्रोण और सात्यकि ने एक दूसरे को अपने बाणों से घायल कर दिया।

ततो द्रोणस्य दाशार्हः शरांश्चिच्छेद संयुगे पत्रिभिः सुदृढैराशु धनुश्चैव महाद्युते

In the battle, Dāśārha used swift and extremely firm arrows to sever Droṇa's arrows and then severed the immensely radiant one's bow too.

युद्ध में दशार्ह ने द्रोण के बाणों को काटने के लिए तीव्र और अत्यंत दृढ़ बाणों का प्रयोग किया और फिर उनके अत्यंत तेजस्वी धनुष को भी काट डाला।

But in the twinkling of an eye, Bhāradvāja's son grasped another bow. However, as he strung it, Sātyaki swiftly severed this too.

Droṇa again grasped another bow and stood with it in his hand. As he repeatedly strung his bow, it was again severed with sharp arrows.

ततोऽस्य संयुगे द्रोणो दृष्ट्वा कर्मातिमानुषम् युयुधानस्य राजेन्द्र मनसेदमचिन्तयत्

O Indra among kings! In the battle, Droṇa witnessed Yuyudhāna's superhuman deed and thought about this in his mind.

हे राजाओं में इन्द्र! युद्ध में, द्रोण ने युयुधान के अलौकिक कार्य को देखा और अपने मन में इसके बारे में सोचा।

एतदस्त्रबलं रामे कार्तवीर्ये धनंजये भीष्मे च पुरुषव्याघ्रे यदिदं सात्वतां वरे

"This kind of strength of arms has been seen in Rāma, Kārtavīrya, Dhanañjayā and Bhīṣma, the tiger among men. This is now seen in the supreme one among the Sātvata lineage."

"भुजाओं की इस प्रकार की शक्ति राम, कार्तवीर्य, ​​धनंजय और मनुष्यों में बाघ भीष्म में देखी गई है। यह अब सात्वत वंश के सर्वोच्च वंश में देखी जाती है।"

तं चास्य मनसा द्रोणः पूजयामास विक्रमम् लाघवं वासवस्येव संप्रेक्ष्य द्विजसत्तमः

Having thought about this in his mind, Droṇa honoured his valour. The supreme among brāhmana-s beheld a dexterity that was like Vāsava's.

मन में यह विचार करके द्रोण ने उसकी वीरता का सम्मान किया। ब्राह्मणों में सर्वोच्च ने वासव जैसी निपुणता देखी।

तुतोषास्त्रविदां श्रेष्ठस्तथा देवाः सवासवाः न तामालक्षयामासुर्लघुतां शीघ्रकारिणः

The foremost among those who was knowledgeable about weapons was gratified, and so were the gods, with Vāsava. O lord of the earth! That kind of dexterity of hand and swiftness of action,

शस्त्रों के ज्ञाता लोगों में सबसे प्रमुख वासव और देवता भी संतुष्ट थे। हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! उस प्रकार की हाथ की निपुणता और कार्य में तेजी,

देवाश्च युयुधानस्य गन्धर्वाश्च विशां पते सिद्धचारणसंघाश्च विदुर्द्रोणस्य कर्म तत्

as shown by Yuyudhāna, had not been seen earlier by the gods, the gāndharva-s and the masses of siddha-s and cāraṇa-s, though they had known what Droṇa was capable of doing.

Droṇa, the destroyer of kṣatriya-s, then picked up another bow. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! The foremost among those who knew about weapons released weapons in the battle.

क्षत्रिय-संहारक द्रोण ने फिर दूसरा धनुष उठाया। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! अस्त्र-शस्त्र के ज्ञाता लोगों में सबसे अग्रणी ने युद्ध में अस्त्र-शस्त्र छोड़े।

तस्यास्त्राण्यस्त्रमायाभिः प्रतिहन्य स सात्यकिः जघान निशितैर्बाणैस्तदद्भुतमिवाभवत्

However, Sātyaki repulsed them with the māyā of his own weapons. He destroyed them with his sharp arrows and it was extraordinary.

His superhuman deeds were witnessed in the battle and no one else was capable of these. This was the outcome of yoga. Those on your side, who were knowledgeable about yoga, honoured this.

युद्ध में उनके अलौकिक कार्य देखे गए और कोई भी ऐसा करने में सक्षम नहीं था। यह योग का परिणाम था. आपके पक्ष के जो लोग योग के जानकार थे, उन्होंने इसका सम्मान किया।

यदस्त्रमस्यति द्रोणस्तदेवास्यति सात्यकिः तमाचार्योऽप्यसंभ्रान्तोऽयोधयच्छत्रुतापनः

Whatever weapon Droṇa used, Sātyaki used that as well. Therefore, the preceptor, the scorcher of enemies, fought carefully.

द्रोण जिस शस्त्र का प्रयोग करते थे, सात्यकि भी उसी शस्त्र का प्रयोग करते थे। अत: शत्रुओं को भस्म करने वाले गुरु ने सावधानी से युद्ध किया।

ततः क्रुद्धो महाराज धनुर्वेदस्य पारगः वधाय युयुधानस्य दिव्यमस्त्रमुदैरयत्

O great king! The one who knew about the science of fighting became enraged. To slay Yuyudhāna, he invoked a divine weapon.

हे महान राजा! जो युद्ध की विद्या जानता था, वह क्रोधित हो गया। युयुधान को मारने के लिए उसने एक दिव्य हथियार का प्रयोग किया।

तदाग्नेयं महाघोरं रिपुघ्नमुपलक्ष्य सः अस्त्रं दिव्यं महेष्वासो वारुणं समुदैरयत्

On seeing the extremely terrible āgneya weapon, the destroyer of enemies, the great archer, released the divine vāruṇa weapon.

अत्यंत भयानक आग्नेय अस्त्र को देखकर शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले महान धनुर्धर ने दिव्य वरुण अस्त्र छोड़ा।

हाहाकारो महानासीद्दृष्ट्वा दिव्यास्त्रधारिणौ न विचेरुस्तदाकाशे भूतान्याकाशगान्यपि

On beholding that both of them had resorted to the use of divine weapons, a great sound of lamentation arose. There were woes in the sky, from the beings who had taken to the sky.

यह देखकर कि उन दोनों ने दिव्य अस्त्रों का प्रयोग किया है, महान् विलाप ध्वनि उत्पन्न हुई। आकाश में संकट थे, उन प्राणियों से जो आकाश में चले गए थे।

अस्त्रे ते वारुणाग्नेये ताभ्यां बाणसमाहिते न तावदभिषज्येते व्यावर्तदथ भास्करः

However, the vāruṇa and āgneya weapons were pacified when they confronted each other's arrows. At that time, the sun began its downward course in the sky.

राजा युधिष्ठिर, पांडव भीमसेन और नकुल तथा सहदेव सात्यकि की रक्षा करना चाहते थे।

धृष्टद्युम्नमुखैः सार्धं विराटश्च सकेकयः मत्स्याः शाल्वेयसेनाश्च द्रोणमाजग्मुरञ्जसा

With Dhṛṣṭadyumna at the forefront, Virāṭa, the Kekaya-s, the Mātsya-s and the soldiers from the Śālveya-s quickly advanced against Droṇa.

धृष्टद्युम्न को सबसे आगे रखते हुए, विराट, केकय, मत्स्य और शाल्वेय के सैनिक तेजी से द्रोण के खिलाफ आगे बढ़े।

दुःशासनं पुरस्कृत्य राजपुत्राः सहस्रशः द्रोणमभ्युपपद्यन्त सपत्नैः परिवारितम्

With Duḥśāsana at the forefront, thousands of princes advanced towards Droṇa, who was surrounded by the enemy.

दु:शासन को सबसे आगे रखते हुए, हजारों राजकुमार द्रोण की ओर बढ़े, जो शत्रु से घिरे हुए थे।

ततो युद्धमभूद्राजंस्तव तेषां च धन्विनाम् रजसा संवृते लोके शरजालसमावृते

O king! A battle started between them and your archers. The world was covered with dust and enveloped in that net of arrows.

हे राजा! उनके और आपके धनुर्धरों के बीच युद्ध छिड़ गया। संसार धूल से ढका हुआ था और बाणों के जाल में लिपटा हुआ था।

सर्वमाविग्नमभवन्न प्राज्ञायत किंचन सैन्येन रजसा ध्वस्ते निर्मर्यादमवर्तत

Everyone was anxious and nothing could be distinguished. The soldiers were covered in dust. But without any fear, the battle raged on.

हर कोई चिंतित था और कुछ भी पता नहीं चल पा रहा था। सैनिक धूल से लथपथ थे। लेकिन बिना किसी डर के लड़ाई जारी रही।
