संजय उवाच शरविक्षतगात्रस्तु प्रत्यमित्रमवस्थितम् अभिमन्युः स्मयन्धीमान्दुःशासनमथाब्रवीत्

Sañjaya said: The intelligent Abhimanyu's body was mangled by the arrows. But he stationed himself before the enemy and smilingly spoke these words to Duḥśāsana.

संजय ने कहा: बुद्धिमान अभिमन्यु का शरीर बाणों से क्षत-विक्षत हो गया था। लेकिन उन्होंने खुद को दुश्मन के सामने तैनात कर दिया और मुस्कुराते हुए दुःशासन से ये शब्द बोले।

दिष्ट्या पश्यामि संग्रामे मानिनं शत्रुमागतम् निष्ठुरं त्यक्तधर्माणमाक्रोशनपरायणम्

"It is through good fortune that I behold this insolent enemy in the battle today. He is cruel and has abandoned dharma.

"यह सौभाग्य है कि मैं आज युद्ध में इस ढीठ शत्रु को देख रहा हूँ। वह क्रूर है और उसने धर्म को त्याग दिया है।"

यत्सभायां त्वया राज्ञो धृतराष्ट्रस्य शृण्वतः कोपितः परुषैर्वाक्यैर्धर्मराजो युधिष्ठिरः जयोन्मत्तेन भीमश्च बह्वबद्धं प्रभाषता

He is addicted to praising himself. In King Dhṛtarāṣṭra's hearing and in the assembly hall, you angered Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira through your harsh words. Intoxicated with victory, you addressed many maddening words towards Bhīmā.

उसे अपनी प्रशंसा करने की लत लग गयी है. राजा धृतराष्ट्र के सामने और सभा भवन में आपने अपने कठोर शब्दों से धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर को क्रोधित कर दिया। विजय के नशे में तुमने भीम के प्रति अनेक क्रोधपूर्ण शब्द कहे।

परवित्तापहारस्य क्रोधस्याप्रशमस्य च लोभस्य ज्ञाननाशस्य द्रोहस्यात्याहितस्य च

You stole the property of others. You were enraged. You were not pacified. You were avaricious. Your wisdom was destroyed. You were hateful and you caused injury.

तुमने दूसरों की संपत्ति चुरा ली. आप क्रोधित थे. आप शांत नहीं हुए. आप लालची थे. तुम्हारी बुद्धि नष्ट हो गयी। आप घृणित थे और आपने चोट पहुँचाई।

पितॄणां मम राज्यस्य हरणस्योग्रधन्विनाम् तत्त्वामिदमनुप्राप्तं तत्कोपाद्वै महात्मनाम्

You robbed my fathers, fierce archers, of their kingdom. You acted in rage against those greatsouled ones. Because of all that, you are facing the consequences.

तुमने मेरे भयंकर धनुर्धर पिताओं का राज्य लूट लिया। आपने उन महानुभावों के विरुद्ध क्रोध में आकर कार्य किया। इन सबके परिणाम आपको भुगतने पड़ रहे हैं।

सद्यश्चोग्रमधर्मस्य फलं प्राप्नुहि दुर्मते शासितास्म्यद्य ते बाणैः सर्वसैन्यस्य पश्यतः

O evil-minded one! You will reap the fruits of terrible adharma. While all these soldiers look on, I will chastise you with my arrows today.

हे दुष्टबुद्धि! तुम्हें भयंकर अधर्म का फल मिलेगा। जब तक ये सभी सैनिक देखते रहेंगे, मैं आज तुम्हें अपने बाणों से घायल कर दूँगा।

अद्याहमनृणस्तस्य कोपस्य भविता रणे अमर्षितायाः कृष्णायाः काङ्क्षितस्य च मे पितुः

Today, in the battle, I will free myself of the debt of anger I bear towards you. Kṛṣṇā is intolerant towards you and this is what my fathers also desire.

आज युद्ध में मैं तुम्हारे प्रति अपने क्रोध के ऋण से मुक्त हो जाऊँगा। कृष्ण आपके प्रति असहिष्णु हैं और मेरे पिता भी यही चाहते हैं।

अद्य कौरव्य भीमस्य भवितास्म्यनृणो युधि न हि मे मोक्ष्यसे जीवन्यदि नोत्सृजसे रणम्

O Kauravya! In the battle, I will free myself of the debt I owe to Bhīmā. If you do not give up the battle, you will not escape with your life."

हे कौरव्य! युद्ध में मैं भीम के ऋण से मुक्त हो जाऊँगा। यदि तुमने युद्ध नहीं छोड़ा तो तुम अपनी जान नहीं बचा पाओगे।"

एवमुक्त्वा महाबाहुर्बाणं दुःशासनान्तकम् संदधे परवीरघ्नः कालाग्न्यनिलवर्चसम्

Having spoken these words, the mighty armed one, the destroyer of enemy heroes, released an arrow towards Duḥśāsana.

ऐसा कहकर शत्रुवीरों का संहार करने वाले महाबाहु वीर ने दु:शासन की ओर बाण छोड़ा।

तस्योरस्तूर्णमासाद्य जत्रुदेशे विभिद्य तम् अथैनं पञ्चविंशत्या पुनश्चैव समर्पयत्

It swiftly approached and pierced him in his shoulder joint. He again pierced him with another twenty-five.

वह तेजी से पास आया और उसके कंधे के जोड़ में छेद कर दिया। उसने उसे फिर पच्चीस से छेदा।

स गाढविद्धो व्यथितो रथोपस्थ उपाविशत् दुःशासनो महाराज कश्मलं चाविशन्महत्

O great king! Thus severely pierced and wounded, Duḥśāsana sat down on the floor of his chariot. He was overcome by a great swoon.

हे महान राजा! इस प्रकार गंभीर रूप से घायल और घायल होकर, दु:शासन अपने रथ के फर्श पर बैठ गया। वह भयंकर मूर्छा से ग्रस्त हो गया।

सारथिस्त्वरमाणस्तु दुःशासनमचेतसम् रणमध्यादपोवाह सौभद्रशरपीडितम्

His charioteer quickly carried away the unconscious Duḥśāsana, who was oppressed by the arrows of Subhadrā's son, from the midst of that battle.

सुभद्रा के पुत्र के बाणों से पीड़ित मूर्छित दु:शासन को उसका सारथी शीघ्रता से युद्ध के बीच से ले गया।

पाण्डवा द्रौपदेयाश्च विराटश्च समीक्ष्य तम् पाञ्चालाः केकयाश्चैव सिंहनादमथानदन्

On witnessing this, the Pāṇḍava-s, Draupadī's sons, Virāṭa, the Pāñcāla-s and the Kekaya-s roared like lions.

यह देखकर पांडव, द्रौपदी के पुत्र, विराट, पंचाल और केकय सिंह की तरह दहाड़ने लगे।

वादित्राणि च सर्वाणि नानालिङ्गानि सर्वशः प्रावादयन्त संहृष्टाः पाण्डूनां तत्र सैनिकाः

The soldiers of the sons of Pāṇḍu were delighted and in all directions, played on many different kinds of musical instruments.

पाण्डु पुत्रों के सैनिक प्रसन्न हो गये और सभी दिशाओं में अनेक प्रकार के वाद्ययंत्र बजाने लगे।

पश्यन्तः स्मयमानाश्च सौभद्रस्य विचेष्टितम् अत्यन्तवैरिणं दृप्तं दृष्ट्वा शत्रुं पराजितम्

On witnessing the feat accomplished by Subhadrā's son, they laughed. On seeing that the extremely hateful and insolent enemy had been vanquished,

सुभद्रा के पुत्र द्वारा किया गया पराक्रम देखकर वे हँसे। यह देखकर कि अत्यंत घृणित और ढीठ शत्रु परास्त हो गया।

धर्ममारुतशक्राणामाश्विनोः प्रतिमास्तथा धारयन्तो ध्वजाग्रेषु द्रौपदेया महारथाः

Draupadī's mahāratha sons, who had images of Dharma, Marut, Śākra and the Aśvin-s on the tips of their standards,

द्रौपदी के मराठा पुत्र, जिनके ध्वजों की नोकों पर धर्म, मरुत, शक्र और अश्विन की प्रतिमाएँ थीं,

सात्यकिश्चेकितानश्च धृष्टद्युम्नशिखण्डिनौ केकया धृष्टकेतुश्च मत्स्यपाञ्चालसृंजयाः

Sātyaki, Cekitāna, Dhṛṣṭadyumna, Śikhaṇḍī, the Kekaya-s, Dhṛṣṭaketu, the Mātsya-s, the Pāñcāla-s, the Sṛñjaya-s

सात्यकि, चेकितान, धृष्टद्युम्न, शिखंडी, केकय-स, धृष्टकेतु, मत्स्य-स, पंचाल-स, सृंजय-स

पाण्डवाश्च मुदा युक्ता युधिष्ठिरपुरोगमाः अभ्यवर्तन्त सहिता द्रोणानीकं बिभित्सवः

and the Pāṇḍava-s, with Yudhiṣṭhira at the forefront, were filled with joy. Wishing to fragment Droṇa's array, they attacked together.

और पांडव, युधिष्ठिर के साथ सबसे आगे, खुशी से भर गए। द्रोण के व्यूह को छिन्न-भिन्न करने की इच्छा से उन्होंने एक साथ आक्रमण किया।

ततोऽभवन्महद्युद्धं त्वदीयानां परैः सह जयमाकाङ्क्षमाणानां शूराणामनिवर्तिनाम्

An extremely great battle commenced between those on your side and the enemy. The brave ones were unwilling to retreat and desired victory.

आपके पक्ष के लोगों और शत्रु के बीच अत्यंत महान युद्ध प्रारम्भ हो गया। बहादुर लोग पीछे हटने को तैयार नहीं थे और जीत चाहते थे।

दुर्योधनो महाराज राधेयमिदमब्रवीत् पश्य दुःशासनं वीरमभिमन्युवशं गतम्

O great king! While that extremely fearful battle raged, Duryodhana spoke to Rādheya. "Behold! Duḥśāsana has been conquered by the brave Abhimanyu.

हे महान राजा! जब वह अत्यंत भयानक युद्ध छिड़ा हुआ था, तब दुर्योधन ने राधेय से बात की। "देखो! दु:शासन को वीर अभिमन्यु ने जीत लिया है।

प्रतपन्तमिवादित्यं निघ्नन्तं शात्रवान्रणे सौभद्रमुद्यतास्त्रातुमभिधावन्ति पाण्डवाः

He is like the sun in his energy and was slaughtering the warriors in battle. The Pāṇḍava-s are advancing towards Subhadrā's son, with upraised weapons."

वह अपनी ऊर्जा में सूर्य के समान है और युद्ध में योद्धाओं का संहार कर रहा था। पांडव हथियार उठाए सुभद्रा के पुत्र की ओर बढ़ रहे हैं।"

ततः कर्णः शरैस्तीक्ष्णैरभिमन्युं दुरासदम् अभ्यवर्षत संक्रुद्धः पुत्रस्य हितकृत्तव

At this, Karṇa became enraged. Wishing to ensure the welfare of your son, he covered the unassailable Abhimanyu with sharp arrows.

इस पर कर्ण क्रोधित हो गया। आपके पुत्र के कल्याण की इच्छा से उन्होंने अपराजेय अभिमन्यु को तीखे बाणों से ढक दिया।

तस्य चानुचरांस्तीक्ष्णैर्विव्याध परमेषुभिः अवज्ञापूर्वकं वीरः सौभद्रस्य रणाजिरे

In the field of battle, he pierced his followers with sharp and supreme arrows and was contemptuous of Subhadrā's brave son.

युद्ध के मैदान में, उसने अपने अनुयायियों को तीखे और सर्वोच्च बाणों से घायल कर दिया और सुभद्रा के बहादुर बेटे का तिरस्कार किया।

अभिमन्युस्तु राधेयं त्रिसप्तत्या शिलीमुखैः अविध्यत्त्वरितो राजन्द्रोणं प्रेप्सुर्महामनाः

O king! Abhimanyu swiftly pierced Rādheya with seventy-three arrows that possessed iron heads. The great-minded one wished to confront Droṇa.

हे राजा! अभिमन्यु ने तेजी से लोहे के सिर वाले तिहत्तर बाणों से राधेय को घायल कर दिया। वह महामनस्वी द्रोण का सामना करना चाहता था।

तं तदा नाशकत्कश्चिद्द्रोणाद्वारयितुं रणे आरुजन्तं रथश्रेष्ठान्वज्रहस्तमिवासुरान्

In that battle, there was no one who could repulse his advance towards Droṇa. He oppressed the best of the rāṭha-s, like the one with the vajra in his hand against the āsura-s.

उस युद्ध में कोई भी ऐसा नहीं था जो द्रोण की ओर उसकी बढ़त को रोक सके। उसने सर्वश्रेष्ठ रथों पर अत्याचार किया, जैसे असुरों के खिलाफ हाथ में वज्र रखने वाले ने किया था।

ततः कर्णो जयप्रेप्सुर्मानी सर्वधनुर्भृताम् सौभद्रं शतशोऽविध्यदुत्तमास्त्राणि दर्शयन्

Karṇa was revered by all those who wielded the bow and desired victory. He exhibited his supreme weapons and pierced Subhadrā's son with hundreds of arrows.

कर्ण का उन सभी लोगों द्वारा सम्मान किया जाता था जो धनुष धारण करते थे और विजय चाहते थे। उसने अपने सर्वोच्च हथियारों का प्रदर्शन किया और सुभद्रा के पुत्र को सैकड़ों बाणों से घायल कर दिया।

सोऽस्त्रैरस्त्रविदां श्रेष्ठो रामशिष्यः प्रतापवान् समरे शत्रुदुर्धर्षमभिमन्युमपीडयत्

The powerful one was Rāma's disciple and was supreme among those who possessed knowledge of weapons. In that battle, he oppressed Abhimanyu, whom enemies found invincible.

वह शक्तिशाली राम का शिष्य था और हथियारों का ज्ञान रखने वालों में सर्वोच्च था। उस युद्ध में उसने अभिमन्यु पर अत्याचार किया, जिसे शत्रु अजेय पाते थे।

स तथा पीड्यमानस्तु राधेयेनास्त्रवृष्टिभिः समरेऽमरसंकाशः सौभद्रो न व्यषीदत

He was afflicted by Rādheya's shower of weapons. But in that battle, Subhadrā's son did not waver. He was like an immortal.

वह राधेय की अस्त्र-शस्त्र वर्षा से दुःखी हो गया। लेकिन उस युद्ध में सुभद्रा का पुत्र नहीं डगमगाया। वह अमर के समान था।

ततः शिलाशितैस्तीक्ष्णैर्भल्लैः संनतपर्वभिः छित्त्वा धनूंषि शूराणामार्जुनिः कर्णमार्दयत् स ध्वजं कार्मुकं चास्य छित्त्वा भूमौ न्यपातयत्

Arjuna's son used sharp, broad-headed and straight-tufted arrows that had been sharpened on stone to sever the bows of the heroes and afflicted Karṇa. His standard and bow were severed and fell down on the ground.

अर्जुन के पुत्र ने वीरों के धनुषों को तोड़ने और कर्ण को पीड़ित करने के लिए तेज, चौड़े सिरों वाले और सीधे नुकीले तीरों का इस्तेमाल किया, जिन्हें पत्थर पर तेज किया गया था। उसका ध्वज और धनुष टूटकर भूमि पर गिर गये।

ततः कृच्छ्रगतं कर्णं दृष्ट्वा कर्णादनन्तरः सौभद्रमभ्ययात्तूर्णं दृढमुद्यम्य कार्मुकम्

On seeing that Karṇa was confronting a hardship, Karṇa's younger brother stretched his firm bow and quickly advanced against Subhadrā's son.

यह देखकर कि कर्ण एक कठिनाई का सामना कर रहा था, कर्ण के छोटे भाई ने अपना दृढ़ धनुष बढ़ाया और तेजी से सुभद्रा के पुत्र के खिलाफ आगे बढ़ा।

तत उच्चुक्रुशुः पार्थास्तेषां चानुचरा जनाः वादित्राणि च संजघ्नुः सौभद्रं चापि तुष्टुवुः

The Pārtha-s, and those who followed them, roared loudly. Satisfied with Subhadrā's son, they played on musical instruments.

पार्थ-एस और उनके पीछे आने वाले लोग जोर-जोर से दहाड़ने लगे। सुभद्रा के पुत्र से संतुष्ट होकर वे संगीत वाद्ययंत्र बजाने लगे।
