संजय उवाच तथा संभाषतां तेषां प्रादुरासीद्धनंजयः दिदृक्षुर्भरतश्रेष्ठं राजानं ससुहृद्गणम्

Sañjaya said: While they were thus conversing, Dhanañjayā arrived. He wished to meet the king who was the foremost among the Bhārata lineage, together with his well-wishers.

संजय ने कहा: जब वे इस प्रकार बातचीत कर रहे थे, धनंजय आ गए। वह अपने शुभचिंतकों सहित भरत वंश में अग्रणी राजा से मिलना चाहते थे।

तं प्रविष्टं शुभां कक्ष्यामभिवाद्याग्रतः स्थितम् समुत्थायार्जुनं प्रेम्णा सस्वजे पाण्डवर्षभः

He entered the auspicious chamber and having saluted him, stood in front. The bull among the Pāṇḍava-s arose from his seat and affectionately embraced Arjuna with his arms.

उन्होंने मंगल कक्ष में प्रवेश किया और उन्हें प्रणाम कर सामने खड़े हो गये। पांडवों के बीच बैल अपने स्थान से उठा और स्नेहपूर्वक अर्जुन को अपनी बाहों से गले लगा लिया।

मूर्ध्नि चैनमुपाघ्राय परिष्वज्य च बाहुना आशिषः परमाः प्रोच्य स्मयमानोऽभ्यभाषत

He inhaled the fragrance of his head. Having pronounced his blessings, he smilingly said,

उसने अपने सिर की सुगंध महसूस की। अपना आशीर्वाद देते हुए उन्होंने मुस्कुराते हुए कहा,

व्यक्तमर्जुन संग्रामे ध्रुवस्ते विजयो महान् यादृग्रूपा हि ते छाया प्रसन्नश्च जनार्दनः

"O Arjuna! It is evident that you will certainly accomplish a great victory in the battle. Your countenance shows that Janārdana is extremely pleased with you."

"हे अर्जुन! यह स्पष्ट है कि तुम निश्चित ही युद्ध में महान विजय प्राप्त करोगे। तुम्हारे चेहरे से पता चलता है कि जनार्दन तुमसे अत्यंत प्रसन्न हैं।"

तमब्रवीत्ततो जिष्णुर्महदाश्चर्यमुत्तमम् दृष्टवानस्मि भद्रं ते केशवस्य प्रसादजम्

Jiṣṇu recounted to him the great and supremely wonderful incident. "O fortunate one! I witnessed it through Keśava's favours."

जिष्णु ने उन्हें महान और अत्यंत अद्भुत घटना सुनाई। "हे भाग्यशाली! मैंने केशव की कृपा से इसे देखा।"

ततस्तत्कथयामास यथादृष्टं धनंजयः आश्वासनार्थं सुहृदां त्र्यम्बकेन समागमम्

Dhanañjayā told him everything that he had witnessed and about his encounter with Tryambaka, and thus assured his well-wishers.

धनंजय ने उन्हें वह सब कुछ बताया जो उन्होंने देखा था और त्र्यंबक के साथ अपनी मुलाकात के बारे में, और इस तरह अपने शुभचिंतकों को आश्वासन दिया।

ततः शिरोभिरवनिं स्पृष्ट्वा सर्वे च विस्मिताः नमस्कृत्य वृषाङ्काय साधु साध्वित्यथाब्रुवन्

All of them were astounded and lowered their heads on the ground. Having shown obeisance to the one with the bull on his banner, they spoke words of praise.

वे सभी चकित हो गये और अपना सिर ज़मीन पर झुका लिया। जिसके झंडे पर बैल था, उसे प्रणाम करके उन्होंने स्तुति के शब्द बोले।

अनुज्ञातास्ततः सर्वे सुहृदो धर्मसूनुना त्वरमाणाः सुसंनद्धा हृष्टा युद्धाय निर्ययुः

All the well-wishers then took their leave of Dharma's son. They swiftly armoured themselves and happily emerged to do battle.

तब सभी शुभचिंतकों ने धर्म के पुत्र से विदा ली। उन्होंने तेजी से खुद को हथियारबंद किया और खुशी-खुशी युद्ध करने के लिए निकले।

अभिवाद्य तु राजानं युयुधानाच्युतार्जुनाः हृष्टा विनिर्ययुस्ते वै युधिष्ठिरनिवेशनात्

Having shown their honours to King Yudhiṣṭhira, Yuyudhāna, Acyuta and Arjuna also happily emerged from his abode.

राजा युधिष्ठिर का सम्मान करके युयुधान, अच्युत और अर्जुन भी प्रसन्नतापूर्वक उनके निवास से बाहर आये।

रथेनैकेन दुर्धर्षौ युयुधानजनार्दनौ जग्मतुः सहितौ वीरावर्जुनस्य निवेशनम्

The invincible Yuyudhāna and Janārdana were on a single chariot and together, went to brave Arjuna's abode.

अजेय युयुधान और जनार्दन एक ही रथ पर सवार थे और एक साथ, बहादुर अर्जुन के निवास पर गए।

तत्र गत्वा हृषीकेशः कल्पयामास सूतवत् रथं रथवरस्याजौ वानरर्षभलक्षणम्

Having gone there, Hṛṣīkeśa prepared the chariot, like a charioteer. It was a supreme chariot and bore the signs of the bull among monkeys.

वहाँ जाकर हृषीकेश ने सारथी की भाँति रथ तैयार किया। यह एक सर्वोच्च रथ था और इसमें बंदरों के बीच बैल के चिन्ह थे।

स मेघसमनिर्घोषस्तप्तकाञ्चनसप्रभः बभौ रथवरः कॢप्तः शिशुर्दिवसकृद्यथा

It possessed a roar like that of the clouds. It possessed the complexion of molten gold. That supreme of chariots was prepared and was as resplendent as the morning sun.

उसमें बादलों जैसी गर्जना थी। इसका रंग पिघले हुए सोने जैसा था। वह श्रेष्ठ रथ तैयार हो गया था और प्रातःकाल के सूर्य के समान देदीप्यमान था।

ततः पुरुषशार्दूलः सज्जः सज्जं पुरःसरः कृताह्निकाय पार्थाय न्यवेदयत तं रथम्

The tiger among men prepared himself. Having prepared himself, he told Pārtha, who had finished his morning ablutions, that the chariot was ready.

मनुष्यों के बीच बाघ ने स्वयं को तैयार किया। खुद को तैयार करने के बाद, उन्होंने पार्थ को, जिसने अपना सुबह का स्नान पूरा कर लिया था, बताया कि रथ तैयार है।

तं तु लोके वरः पुंसां किरीटी हेमवर्मभृत् बाणबाणासनी वाहं प्रदक्षिणमवर्तत

Kirīṭī, the supreme among men in this world, donned golden armour. With the bow and arrows in his hand, he circumabulated.

इस संसार में पुरुषों में श्रेष्ठ किरीटी ने स्वर्ण कवच धारण किया था। उन्होंने हाथ में धनुष-बाण लेकर परिक्रमा की।

ततो विद्यावयोवृद्धैः क्रियावद्भिर्जितेन्द्रियैः स्तूयमानो जयाशीभिरारुरोह महारथम्

The learned and the aged, who were in control of their senses and had performed rites, pronounced benedictions for the mahāratha's victory.

विद्वान और वृद्ध, जो अपनी इंद्रियों पर नियंत्रण रखते थे और अनुष्ठान करते थे, उन्होंने महारथ की जीत के लिए आशीर्वाद दिया।

जैत्रैः सांग्रामिकैर्मन्त्रैः पूर्वमेव रथोत्तमम् अभिमन्त्रितमर्चिष्मानुदयं भास्करो यथा

The supreme chariot had earlier been invoked with mantra-s that would bring about triumph in battle. Having been invoked with mantra-s, it dazzled like the rays of the morning sun.

सर्वोच्च रथ को पहले मंत्रों से अभिमंत्रित किया गया था जो युद्ध में विजय दिलाएगा। मंत्रों से अभिमंत्रित होने के कारण वह प्रातःकालीन सूर्य की किरणों के समान चमकने लगा।

स रथे रथिनां श्रेष्ठः काञ्चने काञ्चनावृतः विबभौ विमलोऽर्चिष्मान्मेराविव दिवाकरः

The foremost among rāṭha-s, clad in gold, ascended the golden chariot. He was as resplendent as the unblemished rays of the sun on Meru.

रथों में सबसे प्रमुख, सोने से लदा हुआ, सोने के रथ पर चढ़ा। वह मेरु पर सूर्य की निर्मल किरणों के समान देदीप्यमान था।

अन्वारुरोहतुः पार्थं युयुधानजनार्दनौ शर्यातेर्यज्ञमायान्तं यथेन्द्रं देवमश्विनौ

After Pārtha had ascended, Yuyudhāna and Janārdana also climbed up, like the Aśvin-s coming with Indra to Śaryāti's sacrifice.

पार्थ के चढ़ने के बाद युयुधान और जनार्दन भी ऊपर चढ़ गये, जैसे अश्विन लोग शर्याति के यज्ञ में इन्द्र के साथ आ रहे थे।

अथ जग्राह गोविन्दो रश्मीन्रश्मिवतां वरः मातलिर्वासवस्येव वृत्रं हन्तुं प्रयास्यतः

Govinda, supreme among those who hold reins, grasped the reins, like Mātali for Vāsava, when he departed to slay Vṛtra.

बागडोर पकड़ने वालों में सर्वोच्च गोविंदा ने बागडोर पकड़ ली, जैसे वासव के लिए मातलि ने, जब वे वृत्र को मारने के लिए निकले थे।

स ताभ्यां सहितः पार्थो रथप्रवरमास्थितः सहितो बुधशुक्राभ्यां तमो निघ्नन्यथा शशी

Pārtha was with both of them, on that supreme chariot. He was like the moon, the dispeller of darkness, together with Budha and Śukra.

उस श्रेष्ठ रथ पर पार्थ उन दोनों के साथ था। वह चंद्रमा की तरह था, बुद्ध और शुक्र के साथ अंधकार को दूर करने वाला।

सैन्धवस्य वधप्रेप्सुः प्रयातः शत्रुपूगहा सहाम्बुपतिमित्राभ्यां यथेन्द्रस्तारकामये

The destroyer of large numbers of the enemy departed, wishing to kill Saindhava. He was like Indra in Tārakāmaya, accompanied by the lord of the oceans and Mitrā.

बड़ी संख्या में शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाला वह व्यक्ति सैन्धव को मारने की इच्छा से चला गया। वह तारकामय में इंद्र की तरह थे, उनके साथ महासागरों के स्वामी और मित्रा भी थे।

ततो वादित्रनिर्घोषैर्मङ्गल्यैश्च स्तवैः शुभैः प्रयान्तमर्जुनं सूता मागधाश्चैव तुष्टुवुः

There was the sound of musical instruments and auspicious and sacred chants. Arjuna proceeded, praised by bards and minstrels.

वाद्ययंत्रों तथा शुभ एवं पवित्र मंत्रों की ध्वनि गूंज रही थी। भाटों और कलाकारों द्वारा प्रशंसा किए जाने पर अर्जुन आगे बढ़े।

सजयाशीः सपुण्याहः सूतमागधनिस्वनः युक्तो वादित्रघोषेण तेषां रतिकरोऽभवत्

The auspicious chants of bards and minstrels wished for his victory. These mingled with the sound of musical instruments and became extremely pleasant.

भाटों और वादकों के मंगल मंत्रों ने उनकी विजय की कामना की। ये संगीत वाद्ययंत्रों की ध्वनि के साथ घुल-मिल गए और अत्यंत सुहावने हो गए।

तमनुप्रयतो वायुः पुण्यगन्धवहः शुचिः ववौ संहर्षयन्पार्थं द्विषतश्चापि शोषयन्

Auspicious winds began to blow from the rear, with fragrant scents. They delighted Pārtha and dried up his enemies.

पीछे से सुगन्धित सुगंधों से युक्त शुभ हवाएँ चलने लगीं। उन्होंने पार्थ को प्रसन्न किया और उसके शत्रुओं को सुखा डाला।

प्रादुरासन्निमित्तानि विजयाय बहूनि च पाण्डवानां त्वदीयानां विपरीतानि मारिष

O venerable one! Many omens of victory manifested themselves in favour of the Pāṇḍava-s and it was the reverse for those on your side.

हे आदरणीय! विजय के कई संकेत पांडवों के पक्ष में प्रकट हुए और आपके पक्ष वालों के लिए यह विपरीत था।

दृष्ट्वार्जुनो निमित्तानि विजयाय प्रदक्षिणम् युयुधानं महेष्वासमिदं वचनमब्रवीत्

On beholding these signs of victory, Arjuna spoke to the great archer, Yuyudhāna, who was on his right.

विजय के इन संकेतों को देखकर, अर्जुन ने महान धनुर्धर युयुधान से बात की, जो उनके दाहिनी ओर था।

युयुधानाद्य युद्धे मे दृश्यते विजयो ध्रुवः यथा हीमानि लिङ्गानि दृश्यन्ते शिनिपुंगव

"O Yuyudhāna! I can see that victory is certain in the battle. O bull among the Śini lineage! These good portents can be seen.

"हे युयुधान! मैं देख सकता हूं कि युद्ध में जीत निश्चित है। हे शिनि वंश के बैल! ये अच्छे लक्षण देखे जा सकते हैं।

सोऽहं तत्र गमिष्यामि यत्र सैन्धवको नृपः यियासुर्यमलोकाय मम वीर्यं प्रतीक्षते

Let me go to the spot where King Saindhava is. He is waiting to witness my valour and to proceed to Yāma's world.

मुझे उस स्थान पर जाने दो जहां राजा सैंधव हैं। वह मेरी वीरता देखने और यमलोक जाने की प्रतीक्षा कर रहा है।

यथा परमकं कृत्यं सैन्धवस्य वधे मम तथैव सुमहत्कृत्यं धर्मराजस्य रक्षणे

The slaying of Saindhava is the supreme task for me. It is also a great task to protect Dharmarāja.

सैन्धव का वध करना मेरे लिये परम कार्य है। धर्मराज की रक्षा करना भी एक महान कार्य है।

स त्वमद्य महाबाहो राजानं परिपालय यथैव हि मया गुप्तस्त्वया गुप्तो भवेत्तथा

O mighty-armed one! You protect him today. You will protect him the way I would have protected him myself.

हे महाबाहु! तुम आज उसकी रक्षा करो. तुम उसकी उसी प्रकार रक्षा करोगे जिस प्रकार मैं स्वयं उसकी रक्षा करता।

त्वयि चाहं पराश्वस्य प्रद्युम्ने वा महारथे शक्नुयां सैन्धवं हन्तुमनपेक्षो नरर्षभ

I do not see anyone else I can depend on, with the exception of mahāratha Pradyumna. O bull among men! Ignoring this, I can then kill Saindhava.

महारथ प्रद्युम्न को छोड़कर मुझे ऐसा कोई अन्य व्यक्ति नहीं दिखता जिस पर मैं निर्भर रह सकूं। हे मनुष्यों में बैल! इस पर ध्यान न देकर मैं सैन्धव को मार सकता हूँ।

मय्यपेक्षा न कर्तव्या कथंचिदपि सात्वत राजन्येव परा गुप्तिः कार्या सर्वात्मना त्वया

O Sātvata! You should not entertain any anxiety on my account. Devote all your attention to the supreme task of protecting the king.

हे सात्वत! तुम्हें मेरे कारण कोई चिन्ता नहीं करनी चाहिए। अपना सारा ध्यान राजा की रक्षा के सर्वोच्च कार्य में लगाओ।

न हि यत्र महाबाहुर्वासुदेवो व्यवस्थितः किंचिद्व्यापद्यते तत्र यत्राहमपि च ध्रुवम्

Where the mighty-armed Vāsudeva is stationed, and where I am, it is certain that there is no scope for danger there."

जहां महाबाहु वासुदेव तैनात हैं, और जहां मैं हूं, यह निश्चित है कि वहां खतरे की कोई गुंजाइश नहीं है।"

एवमुक्तस्तु पार्थेन सात्यकिः परवीरहा तथेत्युक्त्वागमत्तत्र यत्र राजा युधिष्ठिरः

Thus addressed by Pārtha, Sātyaki, the destroyer of enemy heroes, signified his assent to the words and went to the spot where King Yudhiṣṭhira was.

पार्थ के इस प्रकार कहने पर शत्रु वीरों का संहार करने वाले सात्यकि ने इन शब्दों पर अपनी सहमति व्यक्त की और उस स्थान पर गये जहाँ राजा युधिष्ठिर थे।
