Sañjaya said: O foremost among the bulls of the Kuru lineage! Having vanquished Droṇa and other foremost men on your side, with Hārdikya at the forefront, the brave one of the Śini lineage laughed and spoke these words to his charioteer.
संजय ने कहा: हे कुरु वंश के बैलों में अग्रणी! द्रोण और आपके पक्ष के अन्य प्रमुख लोगों को पराजित करने के बाद, जिसमें सबसे आगे हार्दिक्य थे, शिनि वंश के बहादुर व्यक्ति ने हँसते हुए अपने सारथी से ये शब्द कहे।
"O charioteer! We are only instruments today. They have been consumed by Keśava and Phālguna. We have slain those whom that bull among men, the son of the lord of the gods, has already killed."
"हे सारथी! हम आज केवल साधन मात्र हैं। उन्हें केशव और फाल्गुन ने भस्म कर दिया है। हमने उन लोगों को मार डाला है जिन्हें मनुष्यों के बीच उस बैल ने, देवताओं के भगवान के पुत्र ने पहले ही मार डाला है।"
Having thus spoken in that great battle, the bull among the Śini lineage, fierce archer and the destroyer of enemies, swiftly showered powerful arrows in every direction, like a hawk in search of flesh.
उस महान युद्ध में इस प्रकार कहकर, शिनि वंश के बैल, भयंकर धनुर्धर और शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले, मांस की तलाश में बाज की तरह तेजी से हर दिशा में शक्तिशाली बाणों की वर्षा करने लगे।
The foremost of brave ones was borne on horses that had the complexion of the moon, or conch shells. He immersed himself in the soldiers and though they surrounded him from all sides, no one was capable of withstanding him. That fierce man was like the rays of the sun.
सबसे प्रमुख शूरवीर ऐसे घोड़ों पर सवार थे जिनका रंग चंद्रमा या शंख के समान था। वह सैनिकों में डूब गया और यद्यपि उन्होंने उसे चारों ओर से घेर लिया, लेकिन कोई भी उसका सामना करने में सक्षम नहीं था। वह भयंकर पुरुष सूर्य की किरणों के समान था।

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! He was valiant and his spirit was indomitable. Not a single one from those masses was capable of standing up to him. His prowess was like that of the one with a thousand eyes. He was like the sun in the firmament, when the rainy season is over.
हे भरत वंश के वंशज! वह वीर थे और उनकी भावना अदम्य थी। उस जनसमूह में से एक भी उसके सामने खड़ा होने में सक्षम नहीं था। उसका पराक्रम हजार आँखों वाले के समान था। वह वर्षा ऋतु समाप्त होने पर आकाश में सूर्य के समान था।
There was a colourful warrior named Sudarśanā and he was full of intolerance. He bore bow and arrows and sported golden armour. That supreme among kings advanced against Sātyaki and sought to counter him.
सुदर्शन नाम का एक रंगीन योद्धा था और वह असहिष्णुता से भरा हुआ था। वह धनुष-बाण धारण करता था और स्वर्ण कवच धारण करता था। राजाओं में श्रेष्ठ वह सात्यकि के विरुद्ध आगे बढ़े और उसका मुकाबला करने की कोशिश की।

योधास्त्वदीयाश्च हि सोमकाश्च; वृत्रेन्द्रयोर्युद्धमिवामरौघाः
O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! An extremely terrible encounter took place between them and the warriors on your side, and the Somaka-s praised it. The large number of immortals compared it to that between Vṛtra and Indra.
हे भरत वंश के वंशज! उनके और आपके पक्ष के योद्धाओं के बीच अत्यंत भयानक मुठभेड़ हुई और सोमकों ने इसकी प्रशंसा की। बड़ी संख्या में अमर लोगों ने इसकी तुलना वृत्र और इंद्र से की।
Sudarśanā pierced the foremost one of the Sātvata lineage with hundreds of extremely sharp arrows. But before those arrows could reach him, the bull among the Śini lineage struck them down with his own arrows. Sudarśanā was stationed on his chariot.
सुदर्शन ने सैकड़ों अत्यंत तीक्ष्ण बाणों से सात्वत वंश के अग्रज को घायल कर दिया। लेकिन इससे पहले कि वे तीर उस तक पहुंच पाते, शिनि वंश के बैल ने उन्हें अपने तीरों से मार गिराया। सुदर्शन अपने रथ पर तैनात थे।
On seeing that his arrows were destroyed by the force of Sātyaki's arrows, Sudarśanā, whose energy was fierce, became angry. He released golden and colourful arrows.
यह देखकर कि सात्यकि के बाणों के बल से उसके बाण नष्ट हो गए, सुदर्शन, जिसकी ऊर्जा प्रचंड थी, क्रोधित हो गया। उसने सुनहरे और रंग-बिरंगे तीर छोड़े।

विव्याध देहावरणं विभिद्य; ते सात्यकेराविविशुः शरीरम्
He drew his bow completely back up to his ear and again released three sharp arrows that had excellent tufts and were like the fire. These pierced Sātyaki's body armour and penetrated his body.

Yet again, the son of the king affixed another four flaming arrows and struck the four horses that possessed the complexion of silver.

Śini's grandson was like Indra in his valour. Thus afflicted, the spirited one quickly released a mās-s of extremely sharp arrows and killed Sudarśanā's horses, roaring loudly.
शिनि का पौत्र वीरता में इन्द्र के समान था। इस प्रकार पीड़ित होकर, उस उत्साही ने शीघ्रता से अत्यंत तीक्ष्ण बाणों की एक श्रृंखला छोड़ी और जोर से गर्जना करते हुए सुदर्शन के घोड़ों को मार डाला।
The brave one from the Śini lineage then used a kṣurapra arrow to sever Sudarśanā's head. It sported earrings and was like the full moon. It possessed a radiant face and was severed from the body. O king! This was like the battle in ancient times, when the wielder of the vajra used extreme force to kill Bāla.
शिनि वंश के बहादुर ने तब सुदर्शन के सिर को काटने के लिए क्षुरप्र बाण का इस्तेमाल किया। उसमें बालियाँ थीं और वह पूर्णिमा के चाँद जैसा था। उसका चेहरा दीप्तिमान था और वह शरीर से कटा हुआ था। हे राजा! यह प्राचीन काल में हुए युद्ध के समान था, जब वज्रधारी ने बाला को मारने के लिए अत्यधिक बल का प्रयोग किया था।
Having slain the son and the grandson of a king in the battle, the spirited and great-souled bull of the Yadu lineage was overcome by great delight. He was as resplendent as the king of the gods.
युद्ध में एक राजा के पुत्र और पौत्र को मारकर, यदु वंश का उत्साही और महान आत्मा वाला बैल बहुत प्रसन्न हुआ। वह देवताओं के राजा के समान तेजस्वी था।
He then followed the path that Arjuna had taken, repulsing your soldiers with his mās-s of arrows. The chariot was borne by well-trained horses and the brave one among men filled everyone with wonder.
फिर उसने अर्जुन के मार्ग का अनुसरण करते हुए अपने बड़े-बड़े बाणों से आपके सैनिकों को खदेड़ दिया। रथ को अच्छी तरह से प्रशिक्षित घोड़ों द्वारा ले जाया जा रहा था और पुरुषों में से एक बहादुर ने सभी को आश्चर्य से भर दिया।
All the supreme warriors who were assembled there honoured him and wondered at his fierce deeds. With his arrows, he was like a blazing fire that consumed everything that came within the range of the arrows.
