संजय उवाच सलिले जनिते तस्मिन्कौन्तेयेन महात्मना निवारिते द्विषत्सैन्ये कृते च शरवेश्मनि

Sañjaya said: The great-souled Kaunteya created the water. Having repulsed the enemy soldiers, he then created a pavilion made out of arrows.

संजय ने कहा: महान आत्मा कौन्तेय ने जल का निर्माण किया। शत्रु सैनिकों को खदेड़ने के बाद, उन्होंने बाणों से एक मंडप बनाया।

वासुदेवो रथात्तूर्णमवतीर्य महाद्युतिः मोचयामास तुरगान्वितुन्नान्कङ्कपत्रिभिः

The immensely radiant Vāsudeva quickly descended from the chariot. He freed the horses and removed the arrows tufted with the feathers of herons.

अत्यंत तेजस्वी वासुदेव शीघ्रता से रथ से नीचे उतरे। उसने घोड़ों को मुक्त कर दिया और बगुलों के पंखों से युक्त बाणों को हटा दिया।

अदृष्टपूर्वं तद्दृष्ट्वा सिंहनादो महानभूत् सिद्धचारणसंघानां सैनिकानां च सर्वशः

On seeing a sight that had never been seen before, a giant roar, like that of lions, arose from the masses of siddha-s and cāraṇa-s and all the soldiers.

ऐसा दृश्य देखकर जो पहले कभी नहीं देखा गया था, सिद्धों, चारणों और सभी सैनिकों की भीड़ में से सिंह के समान एक विशाल दहाड़ उठी।

पदातिनं तु कौन्तेयं युध्यमानं नरर्षभाः नाशक्नुवन्वारयितुं तदद्भुतमिवाभवत्

Though Kaunteya fought on foot, the bulls among men who fought against him could not counter him and it was wonderful.

हालाँकि कौन्तेय ने पैदल लड़ाई की, लेकिन उसके खिलाफ लड़ने वाले पुरुषों में से बैल उसका मुकाबला नहीं कर सके और यह अद्भुत था।

आपतत्सु रथौघेषु प्रभूतगजवाजिषु नासंभ्रमत्तदा पार्थस्तदस्य पुरुषानति

Large numbers of chariots and many elephants and horses descended on him. But Pārtha did not exhibit the slightest bit of fear towards these men.

उसके ऊपर बड़ी संख्या में रथ और बहुत से हाथी-घोड़े उतरे। परन्तु पार्थ के मन में इन लोगों के प्रति तनिक भी भय नहीं दिखा।

व्यसृजन्त शरौघांस्ते पाण्डवं प्रति पार्थिवाः न चाव्यथत धर्मात्मा वासविः परवीरहा

The kings released large numbers of arrows towards Pāṇḍava. But these did not afflict Vāsava's son. He had dharma in his soul and was the destroyer of enemy heroes.

राजाओं ने पांडवों की ओर बड़ी संख्या में बाण छोड़े। लेकिन इनसे वासव के बेटे को कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ा। उनकी आत्मा में धर्म था और वे शत्रु नायकों का संहार करने वाले थे।

स तानि शरजालानि गदाः प्रासांश्च वीर्यवान् आगतानग्रसत्पार्थः सरितः सागरो यथा

The valiant Pārtha received those nets of arrows, clubs and lances, like the ocean receiving rivers.

जैसे समुद्र नदियों को प्राप्त करता है, उसी प्रकार वीर पार्थ को बाणों, गदाओं और भालों के जाल प्राप्त हुए।

अस्त्रवेगेन महता पार्थो बाहुबलेन च सर्वेषां पार्थिवेन्द्राणामग्रसत्ताञ्शरोत्तमान्

With the great force of his weapons and the strength of his arms, Pārtha countered the supreme arrows shot by all those Indra-s among kings.

पार्थ ने अपने अस्त्र-शस्त्रों की महान शक्ति तथा भुजाओं के बल से उन सभी राजाओं द्वारा छोड़े गये श्रेष्ठ बाणों का मुकाबला किया।

तत्तु पार्थस्य विक्रान्तं वासुदेवस्य चोभयोः अपूजयन्महाराज कौरवाः परमाद्भुतम्

O great king! The Kaurava-s worshipped the supremely wonderful valour of Pārtha and Vāsudeva.

हे महान राजा! कौरवों ने पार्थ और वासुदेव की परम अद्भुत वीरता की पूजा की।

किमद्भुततरं लोके भविताप्यथ वाप्यभूत् यदश्वान्पार्थगोविन्दौ मोचयामासतू रणे

"Has there ever been anything more wonderful in this world, or will there ever be, than the way in which Pārtha and Govinda freed their horses in this battle?

"जिस तरह से पार्थ और गोविंदा ने इस युद्ध में अपने घोड़ों को मुक्त किया, उससे अधिक अद्भुत क्या इस दुनिया में कभी कुछ हुआ है, या होगा?

भयं विपुलमस्मासु तावधत्तां नरोत्तमौ तेजो विदधतुश्चोग्रं विस्रब्धौ रणमूर्धनि

Those supreme among men displayed great energy and great assurance in the forefront of the battle. They generated great fear in us."

उन सर्वोच्च पुरुषों ने युद्ध में सबसे आगे महान ऊर्जा और महान आश्वासन प्रदर्शित किया। उन्होंने हमारे अंदर बहुत डर पैदा कर दिया।"

अथोत्स्मयन्हृषीकेशः स्त्रीमध्य इव भारत अर्जुनेन कृते संख्ये शरगर्भगृहे तदा

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Hṛṣīkeśa began to smile, as if he was amidst women, after Arjuna had crated a pavilion made out of arrows in that field of battle.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! जब अर्जुन ने युद्ध के मैदान में बाणों से बना मंडप बनाया था, तब हृषिकेश मुस्कुराने लगे, मानो वह महिलाओं के बीच में हों।

उपावर्तयदव्यग्रस्तानश्वान्पुष्करेक्षणः मिषतां सर्वसैन्यानां त्वदीयानां विशां पते

O lord of the earth! While all the soldiers on your side looked on, the lotus-eyed one led the horses inside.

हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! जब आपकी ओर के सभी सैनिक देख रहे थे, कमल-नेत्र वाला घोड़ों को अंदर ले गया।

तेषां श्रमं च ग्लानिं च वेपथुं वमथुं व्रणान् सर्वं व्यपानुदत्कृष्णः कुशलो ह्यश्वकर्मणि

Kṛṣṇā was skilled in all acts connected with horses. He removed all their exhaustion, pain, trembling, nausea and wounds.

कृष्ण घोड़ों से संबंधित सभी कार्यों में कुशल थे। उसने उनकी सारी थकावट, दर्द, कंपकंपी, मतली और घाव दूर कर दिये।

शल्यानुद्धृत्य पाणिभ्यां परिमृज्य च तान्हयान् उपावृत्य यथान्यायं पाययामास वारि सः

He removed the stakes with his hands and rubbed the horses down. Having comforted them in due fashion, he made them drink the water.

उसने अपने हाथों से खूंटियाँ हटा दीं और घोड़ों को नीचे रगड़ दिया। उसने उन्हें यथोचित सान्त्वना देकर पानी पिलाया।

स ताँल्लब्धोदकान्स्नाताञ्जग्धान्नान्विगतक्लमान् योजयामास संहृष्टः पुनरेव रथोत्तमे

Having obtained water and having bathed, they were free of pain and exhaustion. He again cheerfully yoked them to that supreme of chariots.

पानी प्राप्त करने और स्नान करने के बाद, वे दर्द और थकावट से मुक्त हो गए। उसने पुनः प्रसन्नतापूर्वक उन्हें रथों में श्रेष्ठ रथों में जोत लिया।

स तं रथवरं शौरिः सर्वशस्त्रभृतां वरः समास्थाय महातेजाः सार्जुनः प्रययौ द्रुतम्

Śauri, supreme among those who wield all weapons, then mounted the chariot, together with the immensely energetic Arjuna, and they departed swiftly.

सभी अस्त्र-शस्त्र धारण करने वालों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ शौरि, अत्यंत ऊर्जावान अर्जुन के साथ रथ पर चढ़े और वे तेजी से चले गए।

रथं रथवरस्याजौ युक्तं लब्धोदकैर्हयैः दृष्ट्वा कुरुबलश्रेष्ठाः पुनर्विमनसोऽभवन्

On seeing that the supreme of chariots had been yoked to horses that had obtained water, the best among the Kuru army again became distressed.

यह देखकर कि रथों के सर्वोच्च रथों को जल प्राप्त करने वाले घोड़ों से जोड़ा गया है, कुरु सेना में से सर्वश्रेष्ठ फिर से व्यथित हो गए।

विनिःश्वसन्तस्ते राजन्भग्नदंष्ट्रा इवोरगाः धिगहो धिग्गतः पार्थः कृष्णश्चेत्यब्रुवन्पृथक्

O king! They sighed, like snakes that had been defanged. They separately said, "Shame! Shame on us! The armoured Pārtha and Kṛṣṇā have passed us,

हे राजा! उन्होंने विषैले साँपों की भाँति आहें भरीं। उन्होंने अलग-अलग कहा, "शर्म की बात है! हमें शर्म आनी चाहिए! बख्तरबंद पार्थ और कृष्ण हमारे पास से गुजर गए,

सर्वक्षत्रस्य मिषतो रथेनैकेन दंशितौ बालक्रीडनकेनेव कदर्थीकृत्य नो बलम्

While all the kṣatriya-s looked on, on a single chariot, They have shattered our forces, like children playing with a toy.

जबकि सभी क्षत्रिय एक ही रथ पर सवार होकर देख रहे थे, उन्होंने हमारी सेनाओं को खिलौने से खेलने वाले बच्चों की तरह चकनाचूर कर दिया है।

क्रोशतां यतमानानामसंसक्तौ परंतपौ दर्शयित्वात्मनो वीर्यं प्रयातौ सर्वराजसु

All the kings displayed their own valour. They shouted and made their best endeavours. But those scorchers of enemies have passed us, while we looked on."

सभी राजाओं ने अपनी-अपनी वीरता का प्रदर्शन किया। वे चिल्लाये और अपना सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्रयास किया। परन्तु जब तक हम देखते रहे, शत्रुओं के वे झुलसानेवाले हमारे पास से निकल गए।"

तौ प्रयातौ पुनर्दृष्ट्वा तदान्ये सैनिकाब्रुवन् त्वरध्वं कुरवः सर्वे वधे कृष्णकिरीटिनोः

On seeing that they had departed, other soldiers again said, "O Kaurava-s! Let all of us make haste, so that we can kill Kṛṣṇā and Kirīṭī.

यह देखकर कि वे चले गये हैं, अन्य सैनिकों ने फिर कहा, "हे कौरवों! चलो हम सभी जल्दी करें, ताकि हम कृष्ण और किरीटी को मार सकें।

रथं युक्त्वा हि दाशार्हो मिषतां सर्वधन्विनाम् जयद्रथाय यात्येष कदर्थीकृत्य नो रणे

Dāśārha has yoked his chariot while all the archers have looked on. Repulsing us in the battle, he is proceeding towards Jayadratha."

दशार्ह ने अपने रथ पर जुआ लगा लिया है जबकि सभी धनुर्धर देखते रह गए हैं। युद्ध में हमें खदेड़ते हुए वह जयद्रथ की ओर बढ़ रहा है।”

तत्र केचिन्मिथो राजन्समभाषन्त भूमिपाः अदृष्टपूर्वं संग्रामे तद्दृष्ट्वा महदद्भुतम्

O king! There were some other lords of the earth who had seen a sight that had never before been seen in battle. On beholding that extraordinary wonder, they spoke to each other.

हे राजा! पृथ्वी के कुछ अन्य राजा भी थे जिन्होंने युद्ध में ऐसा दृश्य देखा था जो पहले कभी नहीं देखा गया था। उस असाधारण आश्चर्य को देखकर वे आपस में बातें करने लगे।

सर्वसैन्यानि राजा च धृतराष्ट्रोऽत्ययं गतः दुर्योधनापराधेन क्षत्रं कृत्स्ना च मेदिनी

"All these soldiers of King Dhṛtarāṣṭra, the kṣatriya-s and the entire earth are in distress because of Duryodhana's crime.

"दुर्योधन के अपराध के कारण राजा धृतराष्ट्र के ये सभी सैनिक, क्षत्रिय और पूरी पृथ्वी संकट में है।

विलयं समनुप्राप्ता तच्च राजा न बुध्यते इत्येवं क्षत्रियास्तत्र ब्रुवन्त्यन्ये च भारत

They are confronting destruction. But the king does not understand this." O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Thus did the kṣatriya-s speak there.

वे विनाश का सामना कर रहे हैं. लेकिन राजा को यह बात समझ में नहीं आती।" हे भरत वंश के वंशज! क्षत्रियों ने वहां ऐसा कहा।

सिन्धुराजस्य यत्कृत्यं गतस्य यमसादनम् तत्करोतु वृथादृष्टिर्धार्तराष्ट्रोऽनुपायवित्

Others said, "The king of Sindhu has gone to Yāma's abode. Let Dhṛtarāṣṭra's weak-sighted son decide on what should be done now."

दूसरों ने कहा, "सिंधु के राजा यम के निवास पर चले गए हैं। धृतराष्ट्र के कमजोर दृष्टि वाले पुत्र को निर्णय लेने दें कि अब क्या किया जाना चाहिए।"

ततः शीघ्रतरं प्रायात्पाण्डवः सैन्धवं प्रति निवर्तमाने तिग्मांशौ हृष्टैः पीतोदकैर्हयैः

Meanwhile, the one with the sharp rays was on a downward course and Pāṇḍava headed towards Saindhava with greater speed. The horses were cheerful, now that they had drunk water.

इस बीच, तेज किरणों वाला नीचे की ओर जा रहा था और पांडव अधिक गति से सैंधव की ओर बढ़ रहे थे। अब घोड़े खुश थे, क्योंकि उन्होंने पानी पी लिया था।

तं प्रयान्तं महाबाहुं सर्वशस्त्रभृतां वरम् नाशक्नुवन्वारयितुं योधाः क्रुद्धमिवान्तकम्

As the mighty-armed one, supreme among the wielders of all weapons, proceeded angrily, like Death, none of the warriors were capable of resisting him.

जब वह महाबाहु, सभी शस्त्रधारियों में सर्वोच्च, मृत्यु के समान क्रोधपूर्वक आगे बढ़ा, तो कोई भी योद्धा उसका विरोध करने में सक्षम नहीं था।

विद्राव्य तु ततः सैन्यं पाण्डवः शत्रुतापनः यथा मृगगणान्सिंहः सैन्धवार्थे व्यलोडयत्

Pāṇḍava, the scorcher of enemies, drove away those soldiers, like a lion agitating a mās-s of deer, for the sake of Saindhava.

शत्रुओं को जलाने वाले पाण्डव ने उन सैनिकों को उसी प्रकार खदेड़ दिया, जैसे सिंह सैन्धव के लिये बहुत सारे मृगों को झकझोर देता है।

गाहमानस्त्वनीकानि तूर्णमश्वानचोदयत् बलाकवर्णान्दाशार्हः पाञ्चजन्यं व्यनादयत्

Dāśārha goaded the horses and swiftly penetrated the array. He blew on Pāñcajanya, which possessed the complexion of cranes.

दशार्ह ने घोड़ों को उकसाया और तेजी से व्यूह में घुस गये। उसने पाञ्चजन्य पर फूंक मारी, जिसका रंग सारस जैसा था।

कौन्तेयेनाग्रतः सृष्टा न्यपतन्पृष्ठतः शराः तूर्णात्तूर्णतरं ह्यश्वास्तेऽवहन्वातरंहसः

The arrows shot earlier by Kaunteya began to fall behind him, so fast did those horses, with the speed of the wind, proceed.

कौन्तेय द्वारा पहले छोड़े गए बाण उसके पीछे गिरने लगे, वे घोड़े हवा की गति से इतनी तेजी से आगे बढ़े।

वातोद्धूतपताकान्तं रथं जलदनिस्वनम् घोरं कपिध्वजं दृष्ट्वा विषण्णा रथिनोऽभवन्

The chariot roared like the clouds and the standard fluttered in the wind. On seeing that terrible standard, with the monkey on it, the rāṭha-s were distressed.

रथ बादलों के समान गर्जना करने लगा और ध्वजा हवा में लहराने लगी। उस भयंकर ध्वज को, जिस पर वानर सवार था, देखकर रथ-वासी व्यथित हो गये।

दिवाकरेऽथ रजसा सर्वतः संवृते भृशम् शरार्ताश्च रणे योधा न कृष्णौ शेकुरीक्षितुम्

The sun was covered everywhere with dust. The warriors were severely afflicted with arrows in that battle and no one was capable of glancing at the two Kṛṣṇās.

सूरज हर जगह धूल से ढका हुआ था। उस युद्ध में योद्धा तीरों से बुरी तरह पीड़ित हो गए थे और कोई भी उन दोनों कृष्णों की ओर देखने में सक्षम नहीं था।

ततो नृपतयः क्रुद्धाः परिवव्रुर्धनंजयम् क्षत्रिया बहवश्चान्ये जयद्रथवधैषिणम्

Dhanañjayā wished to kill Jayadratha. Many enraged kings and many other kṣatriya-s surrounded him.

धनंजय जयद्रथ को मारना चाहता था। अनेक क्रुद्ध राजाओं तथा अन्य क्षत्रियों ने उसे घेर लिया।

अपनीयत्सु शल्येषु धिष्ठितं पुरुषर्षभम् दुर्योधनस्त्वगात्पार्थं त्वरमाणो महाहवे

In that great battle, when Pārtha, bull among men, stopped to remove the arrows, Duryodhana swiftly followed him.

उस महान युद्ध में जब पुरुषों में बैल पार्थ तीर निकालने के लिए रुके, तो दुर्योधन ने तेजी से उनका पीछा किया।
