संजय उवाच सैन्धवेन निरुद्धेषु जयगृद्धिषु पाण्डुषु सुघोरमभवद्युद्धं त्वदीयानां परैः सह

Sañjaya said: Desiring success, Saindhava checked the Pāṇḍu-s. There commenced an extremely terrible battle between those on your side and the enemy.

संजय ने कहा: सफलता की इच्छा से, सैंधव ने पांडु-एस की जाँच की। आपके पक्ष के लोगों और शत्रु के बीच अत्यंत भयानक युद्ध प्रारंभ हो गया।

प्रविश्य त्वार्जुनिः सेनां सत्यसंधो दुरासदाम् व्यक्षोभयत तेजस्वी मकरः सागरं यथा

Arjuna's son, invincible and unwavering in his aim, penetrated the soldiers and agitated them, like a makara in the ocean.

अर्जुन का पुत्र, अजेय और अपने लक्ष्य में अटल, समुद्र में मकर की तरह, सैनिकों में घुस गया और उन्हें उत्तेजित कर दिया।

तं तथा शरवर्षेण क्षोभयन्तमरिंदमम् यथाप्रधानाः सौभद्रमभ्ययुः कुरुसत्तमाः

The foremost among them, supreme among the Kuru-s, advanced duly against Subhadrā's son, the scorcher of enemies who was causing the agitation with his shower of arrows.

उनमें सबसे अग्रणी, कुरुवंशियों में सर्वोच्च, शत्रुओं को झुलसाने वाले सुभद्रा के पुत्र, जो अपने बाणों की वर्षा से हलचल पैदा कर रहा था, के विरुद्ध विधिवत आगे बढ़ा।

तेषां तस्य च संमर्दो दारुणः समपद्यत सृजतां शरवर्षाणि प्रसक्तममितौजसाम्

That clash between him and them was extremely terrible and the infinitely energetic ones created showers of arrows.

उनका और उनका वह संघर्ष अत्यंत भयानक था और उन परम तेजस्वी बाणों की वर्षा होने लगी।

रथव्रजेन संरुद्धस्तैरमित्रैरथार्जुनिः वृषसेनस्य यन्तारं हत्वा चिच्छेद कार्मुकम्

Arjuna's son was obstructed in every direction by chariots of the enemy and killed Vṛṣasena's charioteer and severed his bow.

अर्जुन के पुत्र को शत्रु के रथों ने हर दिशा में रोक दिया और वृषसेन के सारथी को मार डाला और उसका धनुष तोड़ दिया।

तस्य विव्याध बलवाञ्शरैरश्वानजिह्मगैः वातायमानैरथ तैरश्वैरपहृतो रणात्

The powerful one then pierced his horses with arrows and those horses, which were as swift as the wind, bore his chariot away from the field of battle.

तब शक्तिशाली ने उसके घोड़ों को बाणों से घायल कर दिया और वे घोड़े, जो हवा के समान तेज़ थे, उसके रथ को युद्ध के मैदान से दूर ले गए।

तेनान्तरेणाभिमन्योर्यन्तापासारयद्रथम् रथव्रजास्ततो हृष्टाः साधु साध्विति चुक्रुशुः

Using that opportunity, Abhimanyu's charioteer freed his chariot from that melee. On seeing the chariot emerge, there was delight and roars of applause.

उस अवसर का उपयोग करते हुए, अभिमन्यु के सारथी ने अपने रथ को उस हाथापाई से मुक्त कर लिया। रथ को निकलते देख हर्ष और तालियों की गड़गड़ाहट होने लगी।

तं सिंहमिव संक्रुद्धं प्रमथ्नन्तं शरैररीन् आरादायान्तमभ्येत्य वसातीयोऽभ्ययाद्द्रुतम्

He was like a lion and enraged, mangling the enemy with his arrows. Without any fear, Vasātīya swiftly advanced and attacked him.

वह सिंह के समान क्रोधित होकर अपने बाणों से शत्रु को घायल कर रहा था। बिना किसी डर के वसातिया तेजी से आगे बढ़ा और उस पर हमला कर दिया।

सोऽभिमन्युं शरैः षष्ट्या रुक्मपुङ्खैरवाकिरत् अब्रवीच्च न मे जीवञ्जीवतो युधि मोक्ष्यसे

He restrained Abhimanyu with sixty gold-tufted arrows and said, "As long as I am alive, you will not escape from this battle with your life."

उन्होंने साठ स्वर्ण-जटित बाणों से अभिमन्यु को रोक लिया और कहा, "जब तक मैं जीवित हूँ, तुम प्राण लेकर इस युद्ध से नहीं बचोगे।"

तमयस्मयवर्माणमिषुणा आशुपातिना विव्याध हृदि सौभद्रः स पपात व्यसुः क्षितौ

He was clad in iron armour. But Subhadrā's son used a swift arrow to pierce him in the heart. Losing his life, he fell down on the ground.

वह लोहे का कवच पहने हुए था। लेकिन सुभद्रा के पुत्र ने एक तीव्र बाण चलाकर उनके हृदय में छेद कर दिया। वह प्राण त्यागकर भूमि पर गिर पड़ा।

वसात्यं निहतं दृष्ट्वा क्रुद्धाः क्षत्रियपुंगवाः परिवव्रुस्तदा राजंस्तव पौत्रं जिघांसवः

On seeing that Vasātīya had been killed, the bulls among the kṣatriya-s were enraged. O king! They surrounded your grandson, wishing to kill him.

यह देखकर कि वसातिया मारा गया, क्षत्रियों में क्रोध फैल गया। हे राजा! उन्होंने आपके पोते को मार डालने की इच्छा से घेर लिया।

विस्फारयन्तश्चापानि नानारूपाण्यनेकशः तद्युद्धमभवद्रौद्रं सौभद्रस्यारिभिः सह

They stretched their many different kinds of bows in many different kinds of ways. A terrible battle raged between Subhadrā's son and the enemy.

उन्होंने अपने अनेक प्रकार के धनुषों को अनेक प्रकार से बढ़ाया। सुभद्रा के पुत्र और शत्रु के बीच भयानक युद्ध छिड़ गया।

तेषां शरान्सेष्वसनाञ्शरीराणि शिरांसि च सकुण्डलानि स्रग्वीणि क्रुद्धश्चिच्छेद फाल्गुनिः

Phālguna's son was wrathful. He sliced down their arrows and bows and the heads from the bodies, decorated with earrings and garlands.

फाल्गुन का पुत्र क्रोधी था। उसने उनके तीर-धनुष तथा कानों और मालाओं से सुशोभित सिरों को धड़ से अलग कर दिया।

सखड्गाः साङ्गुलित्राणाः सपट्टिशपरश्वधाः अदृश्यन्त भुजाश्छिन्ना हेमाभरणभूषिताः

Severed arms were seen, decorated with golden ornaments. They held swords and finger guards, lances and battleaxes. Garlands, ornaments, garments and giant standards fell down.

स्वर्ण आभूषणों से सुसज्जित कटी हुई भुजाएँ दिखाई दीं। उनके पास तलवारें और फिंगर गार्ड, भाले और बटुए थे। मालाएँ, आभूषण, वस्त्र और विशाल ध्वज गिर पड़े।

स्रग्भिराभरणैर्वस्त्रैः पतितैश्च महाध्वजैः वर्मभिश्चर्मभिर्हारैर्मुकुटैश्छत्रचामरैः

There were armour and shields, necklaces, crowns, umbrellas and whisks. It became impassable because of decorations, seats and poles.

वहाँ कवच और ढालें, हार, मुकुट, छतरियाँ और मूंछें थीं। सजावट, सीटों और डंडों के कारण यह अगम्य हो गया।

अपस्करैरधिष्ठानैरीषादण्डकबन्धुरैः अक्षैर्विमथितैश्चक्रैर्भग्नैश्च बहुधा युगैः

There were shattered and fragmented axles, wheels and yokes in thousands. There were anukarṣa-s.

हजारों की संख्या में धुरियाँ, पहिये और जुए टूटे हुए थे। अनुकर्ष-स थे।

अनुकर्षैः पताकाभिस्तथा सारथिवाजिभिः रथैश्च भग्नैर्नागैश्च हतैः कीर्णाभवन्मही

And flags, charioteers, horses, broken chariots and slain elephants, strewn all over the ground.

और झंडे, सारथी, घोड़े, टूटे हुए रथ और मारे गए हाथी, पूरी जमीन पर बिखरे हुए थे।

निहतैः क्षत्रियैः शूरैर्नानाजनपदेश्वरैः जयगृद्धैर्वृता भूमिर्दारुणा समपद्यत

Many brave kṣatriya-s, the lords of many countries, who had surrounded him with a desire for victory, were killed. They were strewn on the ground and it looked terrible.

अनेक वीर क्षत्रिय, अनेक देशों के स्वामी, जिन्होंने विजय की इच्छा से उसे घेर लिया था, मारे गये। वे ज़मीन पर बिखरे हुए थे और यह भयानक लग रहा था।

दिशो विचरतस्तस्य सर्वाश्च प्रदिशस्तथा रणेऽभिमन्योः क्रुद्धस्य रूपमन्तरधीयत

The angry Abhimanyu was in the field of battle, roaming in all the directions and sub-directions, and his form could not be seen.

क्रोधित अभिमन्यु युद्ध क्षेत्र में सभी दिशाओं और उपदिशाओं में घूम रहा था और उसका रूप दिखाई नहीं दे रहा था।

काञ्चनं यद्यदस्यासीद्वर्म चाभरणानि च धनुषश्च शराणां च तदपश्याम केवलम्

His golden armour and ornaments could alone be seen and also his bow and arrows.

उनके स्वर्ण कवच और आभूषण ही देखे जा सकते थे और उनके धनुष और बाण भी।

तं तदा नाशकत्कश्चिच्चक्षुर्भ्यामभिवीक्षितुम् आददानं शरैर्योधान्मध्ये सूर्यमिव स्थितम्

No one was capable of glancing at him with his eyes. He killed the warriors with his arrows and was stationed like the sun in their midst.

कोई भी उसकी ओर कनखियों से देख पाने में समर्थ नहीं था। उसने अपने बाणों से योद्धाओं को मार डाला और उनके बीच में सूर्य की तरह खड़ा हो गया।
