संजय उवाच दुःशासनरथं दृष्ट्वा समीपे पर्यवस्थितम् भारद्वाजस्ततो वाक्यं दुःशासनमथाब्रवीत्

Sañjaya said: On seeing that Duḥśāsana's chariot was stationed near his, Bhāradvāja's son spoke these words to Duḥśāsana.

संजय ने कहा: यह देखकर कि दु:शासन का रथ उसके रथ के पास खड़ा था, भारद्वाज के पुत्र ने दु:शासन से ये शब्द कहे।

दुःशासन रथाः सर्वे कस्मादेते प्रविद्रुताः कच्चित्क्षेमं तु नृपतेः कच्चिज्जीवति सैन्धवः

"O Duḥśāsana! Why are all these rāṭha-s running away? Is the king well and is Saindhava still alive?

"हे दु:शासन! ये सभी रथ क्यों भाग रहे हैं? क्या राजा ठीक है और क्या सैंधव अभी भी जीवित है?

राजपुत्रो भवानत्र राजभ्राता महारथः किमर्थं द्रवसे युद्धे यौवराज्यमवाप्य हि

You are a prince and your brother is a mahāratha. Why are you running away from the battle? Accept the status of heir apparent.

आप एक राजकुमार हैं और आपका भाई एक महारथ है। तुम युद्ध से क्यों भाग रहे हो? स्पष्ट उत्तराधिकारी की स्थिति स्वीकार करें.

स्वयं वैरं महत्कृत्वा पाञ्चालैः पाण्डवैः सह एकं सात्यकिमासाद्य कथं भीतोऽसि संयुगे

You have yourself brought on this great enmity with the Pāñcāla-s and Pāṇḍava-s. In the battle, how can you be frightened of the single-handed Sātyaki?

आपने स्वयं पंचालों और पांडवों के साथ इतनी बड़ी शत्रुता मोल ली है। युद्ध में आप अकेले सात्यकि से कैसे डर सकते हैं?

न जानीषे पुरा त्वं तु गृह्णन्नक्षान्दुरोदरे शरा ह्येते भविष्यन्ति दारुणाशीविषोपमाः

In the gambling match in earlier times, when you grasped the dice, did you not know that they would become terrible arrows in the future, like venomous serpents?

पहले के समय में जुए के खेल में, जब आपने पासों को पकड़ लिया था, तो क्या आप नहीं जानते थे कि वे भविष्य में विषैले साँपों की तरह भयानक तीर बन जायेंगे?

अप्रियाणां च वचनं पाण्डवेषु विशेषतः द्रौपद्याश्च परिक्लेशस्त्वन्मूलो ह्यभवत्पुरा

Your words towards the Pāṇḍava-s were especially hateful. You were the cause of the hardships that Draupadī faced in earlier times.

पांडवों के प्रति आपके शब्द विशेष रूप से घृणास्पद थे। पूर्वकाल में द्रौपदी को जिन कठिनाइयों का सामना करना पड़ा, उनका कारण आप ही थे।

क्व ते मानश्च दर्पश्च क्व च तद्वीर गर्जितम् आशीविषसमान्पार्थान्कोपयित्वा क्व यास्यसि

Where is that insolence, pride and swagger about valour now? You enraged the Pārtha-s, who are like venomous serpents. Why are you running away now?

वीरता को लेकर वह गुस्ताखी, गर्व और अहंकार अब कहां है? आपने पार्थों को क्रोधित कर दिया, जो विषैले साँपों के समान हैं। अब क्यों भाग रहे हो?

शोच्येयं भारती सेना राजा चैव सुयोधनः यस्य त्वं कर्कशो भ्राता पलायनपरायणः

The army of the Bhārata-s is sorrowing now, as is King Suyodhana. He has a harsh brother, who is now intent on running away.

राजा सुयोधन की तरह भरत की सेना भी अब दुःखी है। उसका एक कठोर भाई है, जो अब भागने पर आमादा है।

ननु नाम त्वया वीर दीर्यमाणा भयार्दिता स्वबाहुबलमास्थाय रक्षितव्या ह्यनीकिनी स त्वमद्य रणं त्यक्त्वा भीतो हर्षयसे परान्

O brave one! The army is shattered and is afflicted by terror. There is no doubt that you should resort to the strength of your arms and protect it now. But you are abandoning the fight in fright now and are delighting the enemy.

हे वीर! सेना बिखर गयी है और आतंक से त्रस्त है. इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं कि अब तुम्हें अपनी भुजाओं के बल का सहारा लेकर इसकी रक्षा करनी चाहिए। परन्तु अब तुम भयभीत होकर युद्ध छोड़ रहे हो और शत्रु को प्रसन्न कर रहे हो।

विद्रुते त्वयि सैन्यस्य नायके शत्रुसूदन कोऽन्यः स्थास्यति संग्रामे भीतो भीते व्यपाश्रये

O destroyer of enemies! You are the leader of your army and are fleeing. When the refuge is itself frightened, which other terrified person will remain stationed in the battle?

हे शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले! आप अपनी सेना के नेता हैं और भाग रहे हैं। जब शरणागत ही भयभीत हो तो दूसरा कौन भयभीत होकर युद्ध में तैनात रहेगा?

एकेन सात्वतेनाद्य युध्यमानस्य चानघ पलायने तव मतिः संग्रामाद्धि प्रवर्तते

O unblemished one! You are fighting with the single-handed Sātvata now. Even then, your mind turns towards flying from the field of battle.

हे निष्कलंक! अब आप अकेले सात्वत से लड़ रहे हैं। फिर भी तुम्हारा मन युद्ध के मैदान से उड़ने की ओर ही जाता है।

यदा गाण्डीवधन्वानं भीमसेनं च कौरव यमौ च युधि द्रष्टासि तदा त्वं किं करिष्यसि

O Kaurava! What will you do when you behold the wielder of Gāṇḍīva, Bhīmasena and the twins in the battle?

हे कौरव! जब आप युद्ध में गाण्डीव, भीमसेन और जुड़वाँ बच्चों को देखेंगे तो आप क्या करेंगे?

युधि फल्गुनबाणानां सूर्याग्निसमतेजसाम् न तुल्याः सात्यकिशरा येषां भीतः पलायसे

In a battle, Phālguna's arrows are like the sun and the fire in their energy. Sātyaki's arrows are equal to those and you are terrified and are running away from those.

युद्ध में फाल्गुन के बाण अपनी ऊर्जा में सूर्य और अग्नि के समान होते हैं। सात्यकि के बाण उन्हीं के समान हैं और आप उनसे भयभीत होकर भाग रहे हैं।

यदि तावत्कृता बुद्धिः पलायनपरायणा पृथिवी धर्मराजस्य शमेनैव प्रदीयताम्

If, indeed, the mind is made up to flee, let there be peace and hand over the earth to Dharmarāja.

यदि वास्तव में, मन भागने को बना है, तो शांति स्थापित करें और पृथ्वी को धर्मराज को सौंप दें।

यावत्फल्गुननाराचा निर्मुक्तोरगसंनिभाः नाविशन्ति शरीरं ते तावत्संशाम्य पाण्डवैः

Have peace with the Pāṇḍava-s before Phālguna's iron arrows, which are like snakes that have cast off their skins, penetrate your body.

इससे पहले कि फाल्गुन के लोहे के तीर, जो अपनी खाल उतार चुके सांपों की तरह हैं, आपके शरीर में प्रवेश कर जाएं, इससे पहले पांडवों के साथ शांति रखें।

यावत्ते पृथिवीं पार्था हत्वा भ्रातृशतं रणे नाक्षिपन्ति महात्मानस्तावत्संशाम्य पाण्डवैः

Have peace with the Pāṇḍava-s before the greatsouled Pārtha-s kill one hundred of your brothers in battle and fling them down on the ground.

इससे पहले कि महाबली पार्थ आपके सौ भाइयों को युद्ध में मार डालें और उन्हें भूमि पर गिरा दें, उससे पहले पांडवों के साथ शांति स्थापित कर लें।

यावन्न क्रुध्यते राजा धर्मपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः कृष्णश्च समरश्लाघी तावत्संशाम्य पाण्डवैः

Have peace with the Pāṇḍava-s before King Yudhiṣṭhira, Dharma's son, and Kṛṣṇā, who prides himself in battle, are enraged.

इससे पहले कि धर्म के पुत्र राजा युधिष्ठिर और युद्ध में अहंकार करने वाले कृष्ण क्रोधित हों, पांडवों के साथ शांति रखें।

यावद्भीमो महाबाहुर्विगाह्य महतीं चमूम् सोदरांस्ते न मृद्नाति तावत्संशाम्य पाण्डवैः

Have peace with the Pāṇḍava-s before the mighty-armed Bhīmā penetrates the large army and grasps your brothers.

इससे पहले कि महाबाहु भीम बड़ी सेना में घुसकर तुम्हारे भाइयों को पकड़ ले, पांडवों के साथ शांति बना लो।

पूर्वमुक्तश्च ते भ्राता भीष्मेण स सुयोधनः अजेयाः पाण्डवाः संख्ये सौम्य संशाम्य पाण्डवैः न च तत्कृतवान्मन्दस्तव भ्राता सुयोधनः

This is what Bhīṣma told your brother Suyodhana earlier. "O amiable one! The Pāṇḍava-s cannot be vanquished in battle. Have peace with the Pāṇḍava-s." But your wicked brother, Suyodhana, did not act accordingly.

यही बात भीष्म ने पहले तुम्हारे भाई सुयोधन से कही थी। "हे मिलनसार! पांडवों को युद्ध में परास्त नहीं किया जा सकता। पांडवों के साथ शांति रखें।" परन्तु तुम्हारे दुष्ट भाई सुयोधन ने उसके अनुसार कार्य नहीं किया।

स युद्धे धृतिमास्थाय यत्तो युध्यस्व पाण्डवैः गच्छ तूर्णं रथेनैव तत्र तिष्ठति सात्यकिः

Therefore, resolve to fight and endeavour to battle with the Pāṇḍava-s. Swiftly go on your chariot to the spot where Sātyaki is stationed.

इसलिए, युद्ध करने का संकल्प लें और पांडवों के साथ युद्ध करने का प्रयास करें। अपने रथ पर शीघ्रता से उस स्थान पर जाओ, जहाँ सात्यकि ठहरे हुए हैं।

त्वया हीनं बलं ह्येतद्विद्रविष्यति भारत आत्मार्थं योधय रणे सात्यकिं सत्यविक्रमम्

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Without your presence, the army will be driven away. Truth is Sātyaki's valour. For your own sake, fight with him in the battle.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! आपकी उपस्थिति के बिना सेना को खदेड़ दिया जायेगा। सत्य ही सात्यकि का पराक्रम है। अपने हित के लिये उसके साथ युद्ध में लड़ो।

एवमुक्तस्तव सुतो नाब्रवीत्किंचिदप्यसौ श्रुतं चाश्रुतवत्कृत्वा प्रायाद्येन स सात्यकिः

Having been thus addressed, your son did not say anything in reply. He pretended not to have heard what had been said and went to the spot where Sātyaki was.

इस प्रकार सम्बोधित किये जाने पर आपके पुत्र ने उत्तर में कुछ नहीं कहा। उसने जो कुछ कहा गया था उसे न सुनने का नाटक किया और उस स्थान पर गया जहाँ सात्यकि था।

सैन्येन महता युक्तो म्लेच्छानामनिवर्तिनाम् आसाद्य च रणे यत्तो युयुधानमयोधयत्

He was accompanied by a large army of mleccha-s who did not retreat. Having approached Yuyudhāna in the battle, he sought to fight with him.

उनके साथ म्लेच्छों की एक बड़ी सेना थी जो पीछे नहीं हटी। युद्ध में युयुधान के पास पहुँचकर उसने उससे युद्ध करना चाहा।

द्रोणोऽपि रथिनां श्रेष्ठः पाञ्चालान्पाण्डवांस्तथा अभ्यद्रवत संक्रुद्धो जवमास्थाय मध्यमम्

Droṇa, foremost among rāṭha-s, angrily advanced against the Pāñcāla-s and the Pāṇḍava-s, using a medium speed.

रथों में अग्रणी द्रोण क्रोधपूर्वक मध्यम गति से पंचालों और पांडवों के विरुद्ध आगे बढ़े।

प्रविश्य च रणे द्रोणः पाञ्चालानां वरूथिनीम् द्रावयामास योधान्वै शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः

In that battle, Droṇa penetrated the Pāñcāla array. He drove away those warriors, in hundreds and thousands.

उस युद्ध में द्रोण ने पंचाल व्यूह को भेद दिया। उसने सैकड़ों और हजारों की संख्या में उन योद्धाओं को खदेड़ दिया।

ततो द्रोणो महाराज नाम विश्राव्य संयुगे पाण्डुपाञ्चालमत्स्यानां प्रचक्रे कदनं महत्

O great king! Droṇa proclaimed his name in the battle and caused great carnage among the Pāṇḍu-s, Pāñcāla-s and Mātsya-s.

हे महान राजा! द्रोण ने युद्ध में अपने नाम का प्रचार किया और पांडु, पंचाल और मत्स्य के बीच महान नरसंहार किया।

तं जयन्तमनीकानि भारद्वाजं ततस्ततः पाञ्चालपुत्रो द्युतिमान्वीरकेतुः समभ्ययात्

The radiant Vīraketu, the son of Pāñcāla, attacked Bhāradvāja, routing Jayanta's armies from here and there.

पंचाल के तेजस्वी पुत्र वीरकेतु ने भारद्वाज पर आक्रमण करके जयन्त की सेनाओं को इधर-उधर खदेड़ दिया।

स द्रोणं पञ्चभिर्विद्ध्वा शरैः संनतपर्वभिः ध्वजमेकेन विव्याध सारथिं चास्य सप्तभिः

He pierced Droṇa with five arrows that had drooping tufts. He pierced his standard with one and his charioteer with another seven.

उसने झुके हुए गुच्छों वाले पाँच बाणों से द्रोण को घायल कर दिया। उसने एक से अपने ध्वज को और सात से अपने सारथी को छेदा।

तत्राद्भुतं महाराज दृष्टवानस्मि संयुगे यद्द्रोणो रभसं युद्धे पाञ्चाल्यं नाभ्यवर्तत

O great king! What I witnessed in that encounter was extraordinary. Despite his violence, Droṇa could not approach Pāñcāla in that battle.

हे महान राजा! उस मुठभेड़ में मैंने जो देखा वह असाधारण था। अपनी हिंसा के बावजूद, द्रोण उस युद्ध में पंचाल के पास नहीं पहुँच सके।

संनिरुद्धं रणे द्रोणं पाञ्चाला वीक्ष्य मारिष आवव्रुः सर्वतो राजन्धर्मपुत्रजयैषिणः

O venerable one! O king! On seeing that Droṇa had been checked in that battle, all the Pāñcāla-s desired the victory of Dharma's son and surrounded him from all sides.

हे आदरणीय! हे राजा! यह देखकर कि युद्ध में द्रोण को परास्त कर दिया गया है, सभी पंचालों ने धर्म के पुत्र की विजय की कामना की और उन्हें चारों ओर से घेर लिया।

ते शरैरग्निसंकाशैस्तोमरैश्च महाधनैः शस्त्रैश्च विविधै राजन्द्रोणमेकमवाकिरन्

O king! They enveloped Droṇa with arrows that were like fire, extremely thick javelins and many kinds of weapons.

हे राजा! उन्होंने अग्नि के समान भयंकर बाणों, अत्यंत मोटे भालों तथा अनेक प्रकार के अस्त्र-शस्त्रों से द्रोण को घेर लिया।

निहत्य तान्बाणगणान्द्रोणो राजन्समन्ततः महाजलधरान्व्योम्नि मातरिश्वा विवानिव

O king! But in every direction, Droṇa destroyed those masses of arrows, like a giant cloud in the sky, driven away by the wind.

हे राजा! परंतु द्रोण ने वायु द्वारा उड़ाये गये आकाश के विशाल बादल के समान उन बाणों के समूह को हर दिशा में नष्ट कर दिया।

ततः शरं महाघोरं सूर्यपावकसंनिभम् संदधे परवीरघ्नो वीरकेतुरथं प्रति

The destroyer of enemy heroes then released an extremely terrible arrow, which was like the sun and the fire, towards Vīraketu's chariot.

तब शत्रुवीरों का संहार करने वाले ने वीरकेतु के रथ की ओर एक अत्यंत भयानक बाण छोड़ा, जो सूर्य और अग्नि के समान था।

स भित्त्वा तु शरो राजन्पाञ्चाल्यं कुलनन्दनम् अभ्यगाद्धरणीं तूर्णं लोहितार्द्रो ज्वलन्निव

O king! That arrow penetrated the descendant of the Pāñcāla lineage and quickly entered the earth, like a flaming and red mountain.

हे राजा! वह बाण पंचाल वंश के वंशजों को भेदकर धधकते और लाल पर्वत के समान शीघ्रता से पृथ्वी में समा गया।

ततोऽपतद्रथात्तूर्णं पाञ्चाल्यः कुलनन्दनः पर्वताग्रादिव महांश्चम्पको वायुपीडितः

The descendant of the Pāñcāla lineage swiftly fell down from the chariot, like a giant campakā tree that has been shattered by the wind and has fallen from a mountain top.

पंचाल वंश का वंशज तेजी से रथ से नीचे गिर गया, जैसे कोई विशाल कैम्पक वृक्ष हवा से टूट गया हो और पहाड़ की चोटी से गिर गया हो।

तस्मिन्हते महेष्वासे राजपुत्रे महाबले पाञ्चालास्त्वरिता द्रोणं समन्तात्पर्यवारयन्

When that prince, immensely strong and a great archer, was killed, the Pāñcāla-s quickly surrounded Droṇa from every direction.

जब वह राजकुमार, अत्यंत बलशाली और महान धनुर्धर, मारा गया, तो पंचालों ने तुरंत द्रोण को हर दिशा से घेर लिया।

चित्रकेतुः सुधन्वा च चित्रवर्मा च भारत तथा चित्ररथश्चैव भ्रातृव्यसनकर्षिताः

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Citraketu, Sudhanva, Chitravarma and Citrarathā were stricken with grief on account of their brother.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! चित्रकेतु, सुधन्वा, चित्रवर्मा और चित्ररथ अपने भाई के कारण दुःख से पीड़ित थे।

अभ्यद्रवन्त सहिता भारद्वाजं युयुत्सवः मुञ्चन्तः शरवर्षाणि तपान्ते जलदा इव

They attacked and unitedly fought against Bhāradvāja's son. They released showers of arrows, like clouds at the end of the summer.

उन्होंने हमला किया और एकजुट होकर भारद्वाज के बेटे के खिलाफ लड़ाई लड़ी। उन्होंने ग्रीष्म ऋतु के अंत में बादलों की भाँति बाणों की वर्षा छोड़ी।

स वध्यमानो बहुधा राजपुत्रैर्महारथैः व्यश्वसूतरथांश्चक्रे कुमारान्कुपितो रणे

He was struck in many ways by these mahāratha princes. Those princes were angry in the battle. But he deprived them of their horses, charioteers and chariots.

इन महारथी राजकुमारों द्वारा उन पर कई तरह से प्रहार किया गया। वे राजकुमार युद्ध में क्रोधित हो गये। परन्तु उसने उन्हें उनके घोड़ों, सारथियों और रथों से वंचित कर दिया।

तथापरैः सुनिशितैर्भल्लैस्तेषां महायशाः पुष्पाणीव विचिन्वन्हि सोत्तमाङ्गान्यपातयत्

The immensely illustrious one then used other extremely sharp and broad-headed arrows to sever and bring down their heads, as if he was plucking flowers.

तब अत्यंत तेजस्वी ने अन्य अत्यंत तीक्ष्ण और चौड़े सिर वाले बाणों का उपयोग करके उनके सिरों को काट डाला और नीचे गिरा दिया, मानो वह फूल तोड़ रहा हो।

ते रथेभ्यो हताः पेतुः क्षितौ राजन्सुवर्चसः देवासुरे पुरा युद्धे यथा दैतेयदानवाः

O extremely radiant king! Slain, they fell down on the ground from their chariots. They were like daitya-s and dānava-s, in the ancient battle between the gods and the āsura-s.

हे अत्यंत तेजस्वी राजा! वे मारे गये और अपने रथों से भूमि पर गिर पड़े। वे देवताओं और असुरों के बीच प्राचीन युद्ध में दैत्यों और दानवों की तरह थे।

तान्निहत्य रणे राजन्भारद्वाजः प्रतापवान् कार्मुकं भ्रामयामास हेमपृष्ठं दुरासदम्

O king, having slain them in battle, the powerful Bhāradvāja whirled his golden-backed, unassailable bow.

हे राजन, उन्हें युद्ध में मारकर शक्तिशाली भारद्वाज ने अपना स्वर्ण-पीठ वाला, अभेद्य धनुष चलाया।

पाञ्चालान्निहतान्दृष्ट्वा देवकल्पान्महारथान् धृष्टद्युम्नो भृशं क्रुद्धो नेत्राभ्यां पातयञ्जलम् अभ्यवर्तत संग्रामे क्रुद्धो द्रोणरथं प्रति

Those mahāratha Pāñcāla-s were like the gods. On seeing that they had been killed, Dhṛṣṭadyumna became extremely angry and tears flowed from his eyes. In that battle, he angrily advanced towards Droṇa's chariot.

वे महारथी पंचाल देवताओं के समान थे। यह देखकर कि वे मारे गये, धृष्टद्युम्न अत्यंत क्रोधित हो गये और उनकी आँखों से आँसू बहने लगे। उस युद्ध में वह क्रोधपूर्वक द्रोण के रथ की ओर बढ़ा।

ततो हा हेति सहसा नादः समभवन्नृप पाञ्चाल्येन रणे दृष्ट्वा द्रोणमावारितं शरैः

O king! In that battle, Droṇa was enveloped by Pāñcāla's arrows and on seeing this, great sounds of lamentation suddenly arose.

हे राजा! उस युद्ध में द्रोण पांचाल के बाणों से घिर गये थे और यह देखकर सहसा महान् विलाप की ध्वनियाँ उत्पन्न होने लगीं।

संछाद्यमानो बहुधा पार्षतेन महात्मना न विव्यथे ततो द्रोणः स्मयन्नेवान्वयुध्यत

But though he was enveloped in many ways by the great-souled Pārṣata, Droṇa was not distressed and smilingly, continued to fight.

परंतु यद्यपि द्रोण को महात्मा परशात ने अनेक प्रकार से घेर लिया था, फिर भी द्रोण व्यथित नहीं हुए और मुस्कुराते हुए युद्ध करते रहे।

ततो द्रोणं महाराज पाञ्चाल्यः क्रोधमूर्छितः आजघानोरसि क्रुद्धो नवत्या नतपर्वणाम्

O great king! Pāñcāla became senseless with rage and wrathfully struck Droṇa in the chest with ninety arrows with drooping tufts.

हे महान राजा! पंचाल क्रोध से मूर्च्छित हो गये और उन्होंने क्रोधपूर्वक द्रोण की छाती में झुकते हुए नब्बे बाणों से प्रहार किया।

स गाढविद्धो बलिना भारद्वाजो महायशाः निषसाद रथोपस्थे कश्मलं च जगाम ह

Bhāradvāja's powerful and immensely illustrious son was severely wounded. He lost his senses and sat down on the floor of his chariot.

भारद्वाज का शक्तिशाली और अत्यंत प्रतापी पुत्र गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गया। वह अपनी सुध-बुध खो बैठा और अपने रथ के फर्श पर बैठ गया।

तं वै तथागतं दृष्ट्वा धृष्टद्युम्नः पराक्रमी समुत्सृज्य धनुस्तूर्णमसिं जग्राह वीर्यवान्

On seeing him in that state, the valiant Dhṛṣṭadyumna cast aside his bow. The brave one quickly grasped a sword.

उन्हें उस अवस्था में देखकर वीर धृष्टद्युम्न ने अपना धनुष उतार दिया। बहादुर ने तुरंत तलवार पकड़ ली।

अवप्लुत्य रथाच्चापि त्वरितः स महारथः आरुरोह रथं तूर्णं भारद्वाजस्य मारिष हर्तुमैच्छच्छिरः कायात्क्रोधसंरक्तलोचनः

O venerable one! The mahāratha quickly descended from his chariot and swiftly ascended the chariot of Bhāradvāja's son. His eyes were red with rage and he wished to sever his head from his body.

हे आदरणीय! महारथी शीघ्रता से अपने रथ से उतरा और तेजी से भारद्वाज के पुत्र के रथ पर चढ़ गया। उसकी आँखें क्रोध से लाल हो गई थीं और वह चाहता था कि अपना सिर धड़ से अलग कर दे।

प्रत्याश्वस्तस्ततो द्रोणो धनुर्गृह्य महाबलः शरैर्वैतस्तिकै राजन्नित्यमासन्नयोधिभिः योधयामास समरे धृष्टद्युम्नं महारथम्

Meanwhile, the immensely strong Droṇa regained his senses and grasped a bow. O king! He pierced him with vaitastika arrows that were meant to be used for fighting at close quarters.

इसी बीच अत्यंत बलशाली द्रोण को होश आ गया और उन्होंने धनुष पकड़ लिया। हे राजा! उसने उसे वैतस्तिक बाणों से घायल कर दिया, जिनका उपयोग नजदीक से लड़ने के लिए किया जाता था।

ते हि वैतस्तिका नाम शरा आसन्नयोधिनः द्रोणस्य विदिता राजन्धृष्टद्युम्नमवाक्षिपन्

O king! In that battle, mahāratha Dhṛṣṭadyumna was struck by vaitastika arrows that are meant for fighting at close quarters. These were known to Droṇa and they weakened Dhṛṣṭadyumna.

हे राजा! उस युद्ध में, महारथी धृष्टद्युम्न को वैतस्तिक बाणों से चोट लगी थी, जो नजदीक से लड़ने के लिए होते हैं। ये बात द्रोण को पता थी और उन्होंने धृष्टद्युम्न को कमजोर कर दिया।

स वध्यमानो बहुभिः सायकैस्तैर्महाबलः अवप्लुत्य रथात्तूर्णं भग्नवेगः पराक्रमी

Having been struck by many such arrows, the immensely strong one quickly descended from the chariot. The brave one's speed had been baffled.

ऐसे अनेक बाणों से घायल होकर वह अत्यंत बलवान शीघ्र ही रथ से नीचे उतर आया। वीर की गति चकरा गई थी।

आरुह्य स्वरथं वीरः प्रगृह्य च महद्धनुः विव्याध समरे द्रोणं धृष्टद्युम्नो महारथः

The brave one ascended his own chariot and grasped a giant bow. In that encounter, mahāratha Dhṛṣṭadyumna pierced Droṇa.

वह वीर अपने रथ पर चढ़ गया और एक विशाल धनुष पकड़ लिया। उस मुठभेड़ में, महारथी धृष्टद्युम्न ने द्रोण को छेद दिया।

तदद्भुतं तयोर्युद्धं भूतसंघा ह्यपूजयन् क्षत्रियाश्च महाराज ये चान्ये तत्र सैनिकाः

O great king! The clash between them was marvellous and large numbers of beings applauded it, the kṣatriya-s, as well as other soldiers present there.

हे महान राजा! उनके बीच संघर्ष अद्भुत था और बड़ी संख्या में प्राणियों, क्षत्रियों और साथ ही वहां मौजूद अन्य सैनिकों ने इसकी सराहना की।

अवश्यं समरे द्रोणो धृष्टद्युम्नेन संगतः वशमेष्यति नो राज्ञः पाञ्चाला इति चुक्रुशुः

O king! The Pāñcāla-s loudly exclaimed, "There is no doubt that, having engaged in this encounter, Droṇa will be subjugated by Dhṛṣṭadyumna."

हे राजा! पंचालों ने जोर से कहा, "इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि, इस मुठभेड़ में शामिल होने के बाद, द्रोण धृष्टद्युम्न के अधीन हो जाएंगे।"

द्रोणस्तु त्वरितो युद्धे धृष्टद्युम्नस्य सारथेः शिरः प्रच्यावयामास फलं पक्वं तरोरिव ततस्ते प्रद्रुता वाहा राजंस्तस्य महात्मनः

In that battle, Droṇa quickly brought down the head of Dhṛṣṭadyumna's charioteer, like a ripe fruit from a tree. O king! The great-souled one's horses ran away.

उस युद्ध में द्रोण ने शीघ्र ही धृष्टद्युम्न के सारथी का सिर पेड़ से पके फल की भाँति नीचे गिरा दिया। हे राजा! महात्मा के घोड़े भाग गये।

तेषु प्रद्रवमाणेषु पाञ्चालान्सृञ्जयांस्तथा व्यद्रावयद्रणे द्रोणस्तत्र तत्र पराक्रमी

When they had run away in the battle, the powerful one drove away the Pāñcāla-s and the Sṛñjaya-s.

जब वे युद्ध में भाग गये, तो शक्तिशाली व्यक्ति ने पंचालों और सृंजय को खदेड़ दिया।

विजित्य पाण्डुपाञ्चालान्भारद्वाजः प्रतापवान् स्वं व्यूहं पुनरास्थाय स्थिरोऽभवदरिंदमः न चैनं पाण्डवा युद्धे जेतुमुत्सहिरे प्रभो

Bhāradvāja's powerful son defeated the Pāṇḍu-s and the Pāñcāla-s. The scorcher of enemies re-established his vyūha and stationed himself there. O lord! The Pāṇḍava-s evinced no interest in defeating him in the battle.

भारद्वाज के शक्तिशाली पुत्र ने पांडु-एस और पंचाल-एस को हराया। शत्रुओं को झुलसाने वाले ने अपना व्यूह फिर से स्थापित किया और स्वयं को वहीं स्थापित कर लिया। हे भगवान! पांडवों ने उसे युद्ध में हराने में कोई दिलचस्पी नहीं दिखाई।
