संजय उवाच ततः संशप्तका राजन्समे देशे व्यवस्थिताः व्यूह्यानीकं रथैरेव चन्द्रार्धाख्यं मुदान्विताः

Sañjaya said: O king! The saṃśaptaka-s were delighted. They stationed themselves and their chariots on level ground, arrayed in a vyūha in the shape of a half-moon.

संजय ने कहा: हे राजा! संशप्तक प्रसन्न हुए। उन्होंने खुद को और अपने रथों को समतल भूमि पर अर्धचंद्र के आकार में व्यूह बनाकर खड़ा किया।

ते किरीटिनमायान्तं दृष्ट्वा हर्षेण मारिष उदक्रोशन्नरव्याघ्राः शब्देन महता तदा

O venerable one! On seeing that Kirīṭī was advancing towards them, those tigers among men were delighted. They roared loudly.

हे आदरणीय! यह देखकर कि किरीटी उनकी ओर बढ़ रही थी, उन मनुष्यों में से बाघों को खुशी हुई। वे जोर से दहाड़े।

स शब्दः प्रदिशः सर्वा दिशः खं च समावृणोत् आवृतत्वाच्च लोकस्य नासीत्तत्र प्रतिस्वनः

That noise resounded in the directions and the sub-directions and covered the sky. Because the ground was covered with only a few men, there were no echoes.

वह ध्वनि दिशाओं और उपदिशाओं में गूँज उठी और आकाश में छा गई। चूँकि ज़मीन केवल कुछ ही लोगों से ढकी हुई थी, इसलिए कोई गूँज नहीं थी।

अतीव संप्रहृष्टांस्तानुपलभ्य धनंजयः किंचिदभ्युत्स्मयन्कृष्णमिदं वचनमब्रवीत्

On seeing that they were extremely delighted, Dhanañjayā smiled a little and addressed these words to Kṛṣṇā.

यह देखकर कि वे अत्यंत प्रसन्न हैं, धनंजय थोड़ा मुस्कुराए और ये शब्द कृष्ण को संबोधित किए।

पश्यैतान्देवकीमातर्मुमूर्षूनद्य संयुगे भ्रातॄंस्त्रैगर्तकानेवं रोदितव्ये प्रहर्षितान्

"O one who has Devakī as a mother! Behold. At a time when they should be weeping, the Trigarta brothers are delighted. They are about to be killed in the battle. Or perhaps, this is certainly a time for the Trigarta-s to rejoice.

"हे जिसकी माता देवकी है! देखो। ऐसे समय में जब उन्हें रोना चाहिए था, त्रिगर्त बंधु प्रसन्न होते हैं। वे युद्ध में मारे जाने वाले हैं। या शायद, यह निश्चित रूप से त्रिगर्तों के लिए खुशी मनाने का समय है।

अथ वा हर्षकालोऽयं त्रैगर्तानामसंशयम् कुनरैर्दुरवापान्हि लोकान्प्राप्स्यन्त्यनुत्तमान्

They will obtain excellent worlds that cannot be obtained by those who are cowards."

वे उत्कृष्ट लोक प्राप्त करेंगे जो कायरों को प्राप्त नहीं हो सकते।"

एवमुक्त्वा महाबाहुर्हृषीकेशं ततोऽर्जुनः आससाद रणे व्यूढां त्रैगर्तानामनीकिनीम्

Having spoken these words to the mighty-armed Hṛṣīkeśa in the battle, Arjuna encountered the army of the Trigarta-s, arranged in a battle formation.

युद्ध में महाबाहु हृषीकेश से ये शब्द कहकर अर्जुन ने युद्ध व्यूह में व्यवस्थित त्रिगर्तों की सेना का सामना किया।

स देवदत्तमादाय शङ्खं हेमपरिष्कृतम् दध्मौ वेगेन महता फल्गुनः पूरयन्दिशः

Phālguna grasped the conch shell Devadatta, embellished with gold and blew it with great force, filling all the directions.

फाल्गुन ने सोने से अलंकृत देवदत्त शंख को पकड़ लिया और उसे बड़े जोर से बजाया, जिससे सभी दिशाएँ भर गईं।

तेन शब्देन वित्रस्ता संशप्तकवरूथिनी निश्चेष्टावस्थिता संख्ये अश्मसारमयी यथा

The saṃśaptaka chariots were terrified at the sound. In that battle, they were motionless, as if they were made out of stone.

संशप्तक रथ ध्वनि से भयभीत हो गए। उस युद्ध में, वे निश्चल थे, मानो वे पत्थर के बने हों।

वाहास्तेषां विवृत्ताक्षाः स्तब्धकर्णशिरोधराः विष्टब्धचरणा मूत्रं रुधिरं च प्रसुस्रुवुः

Their mounts dilated their eyes, with the ears, heads and lips paralysed. Their feet did not move. They excreted urine and vomited blood.

उनकी घुड़सवारी से उनकी आंखें फैल गईं, कान, सिर और होंठ निष्क्रिय हो गए। उनके पैर नहीं हिलते थे. उन्होंने मूत्र त्याग किया और खून की उल्टी की।

उपलभ्य च ते संज्ञामवस्थाप्य च वाहिनीम् युगपत्पाण्डुपुत्राय चिक्षिपुः कङ्कपत्रिणः

When they regained consciousness, the army was arrayed again and simultaneously released arrows tufted with heron feathers towards Pāṇḍu's son.

जब वे होश में आए, तो सेना को फिर से तैयार किया गया और साथ ही पांडु के पुत्र की ओर बगुले के पंख वाले तीर छोड़े गए।

तान्यर्जुनः सहस्राणि दश पञ्चैव चाशुगैः अनागतान्येव शरैश्चिच्छेदाशुपराक्रमः

However, Arjuna used fifteen swift arrows to counter thousands of those. The valiant one was swift and severed the arrows before they could reach him.

हालाँकि, अर्जुन ने उनमें से हजारों का मुकाबला करने के लिए पंद्रह तेज तीरों का इस्तेमाल किया। वह वीर तेज़ था और उसने तीरों को उसके पास पहुँचने से पहले ही काट डाला।

ततोऽर्जुनं शितैर्बाणैर्दशभिर्दशभिः पुनः प्रत्यविध्यंस्ततः पार्थस्तानविध्यत्त्रिभिस्त्रिभिः

Each of them then pierced Arjuna with ten sharp arrows. But Pārtha pierced them back with three arrows each.

फिर उनमें से प्रत्येक ने दस-दस तीखे बाणों से अर्जुन को घायल कर दिया। परन्तु पार्थ ने उन्हें तीन-तीन बाणों से बींध डाला।

एकैकस्तु ततः पार्थं राजन्विव्याध पञ्चभिः स च तान्प्रतिविव्याध द्वाभ्यां द्वाभ्यां पराक्रमी

O king! Each of them then pierced Pārtha with five arrows. But the valorous one pierced each of them back with two arrows.

हे राजा! फिर उनमें से प्रत्येक ने पार्थ को पाँच-पाँच बाणों से घायल कर दिया। परन्तु वीर ने उनमें से प्रत्येक को दो-दो बाणों से बींध डाला।

भूय एव तु संरब्धास्तेऽर्जुनं सहकेशवम् आपूरयञ्शरैस्तीक्ष्णैस्तटाकमिव वृष्टिभिः

They became extremely angry and enveloped Arjuna and Keśava with sharp arrows, like rain showering down on a lake.

वे अत्यंत क्रोधित हो गये और उन्होंने अर्जुन तथा केशव को ऐसे तीखे बाणों से घेर लिया, मानो झील पर वर्षा हो रही हो।

ततः शरसहस्राणि प्रापतन्नर्जुनं प्रति भ्रमराणामिव व्राताः फुल्लद्रुमगणे वने

Hundreds and thousands of arrows were released towards Arjuna, like hordes of bees descending on flowering trees in a forest.

सैकड़ों और हजारों बाण अर्जुन की ओर छोड़े गए, जैसे जंगल में फूलों के पेड़ों पर मधुमक्खियों के झुंड उतर रहे हों।

ततः सुबाहुस्त्रिंशद्भिरद्रिसारमयैर्दृढैः अविध्यदिषुभिर्गाढं किरीटे सव्यसाचिनम्

Subāhu pierced and penetrated Savyasachi's diadem with thirty arrows that were as hard as rock.

सुबाहु ने चट्टान के समान कठोर तीस बाणों से सव्यसाची के मुकुट को भेद डाला।

तैः किरीटी किरीटस्थैर्हेमपुङ्खैरजिह्मगैः शातकुम्भमयापीडो बभौ यूप इवोच्छ्रितः

Those gold-tufted arrows stuck to Kirīṭī's diadem and he looked like a sacrificial post decorated with gold.

वे सोने के गुच्छे वाले तीर किरीटी के मुकुट से चिपक गए और वह सोने से सजाए गए एक बलिदान स्तंभ की तरह लग रहा था।

हस्तावापं सुबाहोस्तु भल्लेन युधि पाण्डवः चिच्छेद तं चैव पुनः शरवर्षैरवाकिरत्

In the encounter, Pāṇḍava used a broad-headed arrow to sever Subāhu's arm-guard and enveloped him with a shower of arrows.

मुठभेड़ में, पांडव ने सुबाहु के आर्म-गार्ड को काटने के लिए एक चौड़े सिर वाले तीर का इस्तेमाल किया और उसे तीरों की बौछार से घेर लिया।

ततः सुशर्मा दशभिः सुरथश्च किरीटिनम् सुधर्मा सुधनुश्चैव सुबाहुश्च समर्पयन्

Susharma, Suratha, Sudharmā, Sudhanu and Subāhu pierced Kirīṭī with ten arrows each.

सुशर्मा, सुरथ, सुधर्मा, सुधनु और सुबाहु ने दस-दस बाणों से किरीटी को घायल कर दिया।

तांस्तु सर्वान्पृथग्बाणैर्वानरप्रवरध्वजः प्रत्यविध्यद्ध्वजांश्चैषां भल्लैश्चिच्छेद काञ्चनान्

But the one with the monkey on his banner countered each of them separately with arrows. He pierced them back and severed their golden standards with broad-headed arrows.

परन्तु जिसके ध्वज पर वानर था, उसने बाणों से उनमें से प्रत्येक का अलग-अलग मुकाबला किया। उसने उन्हें पीछे से छेद दिया और चौड़े सिरों वाले बाणों से उनके सुनहरे मानकों को तोड़ दिया।

सुधन्वनो धनुश्छित्त्वा हयान्वै न्यवधीच्छरैः अथास्य सशिरस्त्राणं शिरः कायादपाहरत्

Having sliced down Sudhanu's bow, he killed his horses with arrows. Then he severed his helmeted head from his body.

उसने सुधनु के धनुष को काटकर उसके घोड़ों को बाणों से मार डाला। फिर उसने अपना हेलमेट पहने सिर को शरीर से अलग कर दिया।

तस्मिंस्तु पतिते वीरे त्रस्तास्तस्य पदानुगाः व्यद्रवन्त भयाद्भीता येन दौर्योधनं बलम्

When that brave one was brought down, his followers were terrified. In fear, they fled towards Duryodhana's army.

जब उस वीर को नीचे लाया गया तो उसके अनुयायी भयभीत हो गये। डर के मारे वे दुर्योधन की सेना की ओर भाग गये।

ततो जघान संक्रुद्धो वासविस्तां महाचमूम् शरजालैरविच्छिन्नैस्तमः सूर्य इवांशुभिः

Vāsava's son was extremely angry and slaughtered that large army with his net of arrows, like the sun's rays dispelling darkness.

वासव का पुत्र अत्यंत क्रोधित हुआ और उसने अपने बाणों के जाल से उस विशाल सेना को उसी प्रकार मार डाला, जैसे सूर्य की किरणें अंधकार को दूर कर देती हैं।

ततो भग्ने बले तस्मिन्विप्रयाते समन्ततः सव्यसाचिनि संक्रुद्धे त्रैगर्तान्भयमाविशत्

The army was shattered and fled in different directions. Savyasachi was overcome with great rage and the Trigarta-s were overcome with fear.

सेना बिखर गई और अलग-अलग दिशाओं में भाग गई। सव्यसाची अत्यंत क्रोध से भर गए और त्रिगर्त भय से भर गए।

ते वध्यमानाः पार्थेन शरैः संनतपर्वभिः अमुह्यंस्तत्र तत्रैव त्रस्ता मृगगणा इव

They were slaughtered by Pārtha's straight-tufted arrows. They remained there, bereft of their senses, like a frightened herd of deer.

पार्थ के सीधे नुकीले बाणों से वे मारे गये। वे डरे हुए हिरणों के झुण्ड की भाँति अपनी सुध-बुध खोकर वहीं पड़े रहे।

ततस्त्रिगर्तराट्क्रुद्धस्तानुवाच महारथान् अलं द्रुतेन वः शूरा न भयं कर्तुमर्हथ

The angry king of the Trigarta-s spoke to the mahāratha-s. "O brave ones! Do not run away. You should not be overcome by fear.

त्रिगर्तों के क्रोधित राजा ने महारथों से बात की। "हे वीरो! भागो मत। तुम्हें भय से वश में नहीं होना चाहिए।"

शप्त्वा तु शपथान्घोरान्सर्वसैन्यस्य पश्यतः गत्वा दौर्योधनं सैन्यं किं वै वक्ष्यथ मुख्यगाः

You pledged and took a terrible oath before all the soldiers. Having gone there, what will you tell the foremost ones among Duryodhana's soldiers?

आपने सभी सैनिकों के सामने प्रतिज्ञा की और भयानक शपथ ली। वहाँ जाकर तुम दुर्योधन के योद्धाओं में जो सबसे बड़े थे, उन्हें क्या बताओगे?

नावहास्याः कथं लोके कर्मणानेन संयुगे भवेम सहिताः सर्वे निवर्तध्वं यथाबलम्

For this deed of ours in this battle, will we not be ridiculed in this world? All of us should unite and return to our respective divisions."

इस युद्ध में हमारे इस कार्य के लिये क्या इस संसार में हमारा उपहास नहीं होगा? हम सभी को एकजुट होकर अपने-अपने प्रभागों में लौट जाना चाहिए।”

एवमुक्तास्तु ते राजन्नुदक्रोशन्मुहुर्मुहुः शङ्खांश्च दध्मिरे वीरा हर्षयन्तः परस्परम्

O king! Having been thus addressed, those brave ones repeatedly blew on their conch shells and gladdened each other.

हे राजा! इस प्रकार संबोधित किये जाने पर उन वीरों ने बार-बार शंख बजाये और एक-दूसरे को प्रसन्न किया।

ततस्ते संन्यवर्तन्त संशप्तकगणाः पुनः नारायणाश्च गोपालाः कृत्वा मृत्युं निवर्तनम्

The masses of saṃśaptaka-s returned again, like the Nārāyaṇa cowherds that have returned to their death.

संशप्तकों की भीड़ फिर से लौट आई, जैसे नारायण ग्वाले अपनी मृत्यु की ओर लौट आए हैं।
