युधिष्ठिर उवाच दानं बहुविधाकारं शान्तिः सत्यमहिंसता स्वदारतुष्टिश्चोक्ता ते फलं दानस्य चैव यत्

भगीरथ उवाच निःशङ्कमन्नमददं ब्राह्मणेभ्यः; शतं सहस्राणि सदैव दानम् ब्राह्मं व्रतं नित्यमास्थाय विद्धि; न त्वेवाहं तस्य फलादिहागाम्

To the elephant-faced ones, the great-bodied ones, adorned with golden garlands, I gave ten thousand wives, seven thousand.

हाथी के मुख वाली, विशाल शरीर वाली, सोने की मालाओं से सुशोभित, मैंने दस हजार पत्नियाँ दीं, सात हजार।

अलंकृतानां देवेश दिव्यैः कनकभूषणैः रथानां काञ्चनाङ्गानां सहस्राण्यददं दश सप्त चान्यानि युक्तानि वाजिभिः समलंकृतैः

O Lord of the gods, I gave ten thousand chariots with golden parts, adorned with divine golden ornaments. And seven others, yoked with well-adorned horses.

Having conquered all the kings and having performed sacrifices to the grandfather, I have not come to you through the eight royal sacrifices.

समस्त राजाओं को जीतकर तथा पितामह का यज्ञ कराकर मैं आठ राजयज्ञों द्वारा आपके पास नहीं आया हूँ।

स्रोतश्च यावद्गङ्गायाश्छन्नमासीज्जगत्पते दक्षिणाभिः प्रवृत्ताभिर्मम नागां च तत्कृते

एकादशाहैरयजं सदक्षिणै;र्द्विर्द्वादशाहैरश्वमेधैश्च देव आर्कायणैः षोडशभिश्च ब्रह्मं;स्तेषां फलेनेह न चागतोऽस्मि

By performing eleven horse sacrifices with full dakshina, twice by twelve horse sacrifices, O god, By performing sixteen Arka sacrifices, O Brahman, I have not come to the fruit of those.

हे संसार के स्वामी, मैं ने दूध देने वाली गायें, बछड़ियां, और बैल भी दिए। हे देवराज, मैं सदैव ब्राह्मणों को दान देता हूँ। उसी फल के द्वारा मैं यहाँ तक आया हूँ।

त्रिंशदग्निमहं ब्रह्मन्नयजं यच्च नित्यदा अष्टाभिः सर्वमेधैश्च नरमेधैश्च सप्तभिः

O Brahman, I have performed thirty Agni-sacrifices and always performed the Ashta-meḍha and seven Naramedha sacrifices.

पृथु द्वारा एक हजार (गायों) से यह कहकर कि हे प्रभु, मैं इस संसार में आया हूं। इसमें कोई संदेह न रखें.

कामं यथावद्विहितं विधात्रा; पृष्टेन वाच्यं तु मया यथावत् तपो हि नान्यच्चानशनान्मतं मे; नमोऽस्तु ते देववर प्रसीद

As desired, I shall duly tell you what has been prescribed by the Creator; or what should be told by me when asked. For, austerity is not considered by me to be anything other
