Anushasanaparvan · v1

Yudhisthira said: Non-violence, Vedic rites, meditation, control of the senses, penance, service to the guru - which is best for a man?

Anushasanaparvan · v2

Brihaspati said: All these are separate doors of Dharma in every way. Listen to the six that are being proclaimed, O bull of the Bharata lineage.

Anushasanaparvan · v3

I shall now describe the supreme good of the creature, The Dharma based on non-violence, which a man who practices attains.

Anushasanaparvan · v4

Having placed the three faults in all beings, a person always restrains desire and anger, and then attains success.

Anushasanaparvan · v5

One who kills beings that are not violent with a stick, and who seeks happiness for himself, will not be happy after death.

Anushasanaparvan · v6

The person who is like the self in all beings, who has laid down the rod and conquered anger, he attains happiness after death.

Anushasanaparvan · v7

For one who has become the self of all beings, who sees all beings, Even the gods are confused on the path, seeking the path of the one without a path.

Anushasanaparvan · v8

He should not give to others what is disagreeable to himself. This, in brief, is the Dharma that operates apart from desire.

Anushasanaparvan · v9

In rejection and in giving, in happiness and in suffering, in the agreeable and in the disagreeable, the person attains concentration by means of equanimity.

Anushasanaparvan · v10

Just as one person proceeds to others, so another proceeds to the other. This alone is your example in the world of the living, just as the Dharma has been taught with skill.

Anushasanaparvan · v11

Vaishmapayana said: Having spoken thus to the king of Dharma, Yudhishthira, the wise preceptor of the gods ascended to heaven, even as we were
