भीष्म उवाच विपुलस्त्वकरोत्तीव्रं तपः कृत्वा गुरोर्वचः तपोयुक्तमथात्मानममन्यत च वीर्यवान्

Bhishma said: Vipula performed a fierce penance after speaking to his guru. The valorous one considered himself to be endowed with austerities.

भीष्म ने कहा- विपुला ने अपने गुरु से कहकर घोर तपस्या की। वीर स्वयं को तपस्या से सम्पन्न मानता था।

स तेन कर्मणा स्पर्धन्पृथिवीं पृथिवीपते चचार गतभीः प्रीतो लब्धकीर्तिर्वरो नृषु

That king, who was engaged in that act, was delighted, fearless, and had attained fame among men.

उस कृत्य में संलग्न वह राजा प्रसन्न, निर्भय और मनुष्यों में विख्यात हो गया था।

उभौ लोकौ जितौ चापि तथैवामन्यत प्रभुः कर्मणा तेन कौरव्य तपसा विपुलेन च

The lord considered that both worlds had been conquered. O descendant of the Kuru lineage, by that deed and by the great austerity,

प्रभु ने माना कि दोनों दुनियाओं पर विजय प्राप्त कर ली गई है। हे कुरु वंश के वंशज, उस कर्म और महान तपस्या से,

अथ काले व्यतिक्रान्ते कस्मिंश्चित्कुरुनन्दन रुच्या भगिन्या दानं वै बभूव धनधान्यवत्

Then, after some time had passed, O descendant of the Kurus, his sister Rucī gave a gift of wealth and grain.

फिर, कुछ समय बीतने के बाद, हे कौरवों के वंशज, उनकी बहन रुचि ने धन और अनाज का उपहार दिया।

एतस्मिन्नेव काले तु दिव्या काचिद्वराङ्गना बिभ्रती परमं रूपं जगामाथ विहायसा

At that very time, a certain celestial lady of supreme beauty came flying through the sky,

उसी समय, परम सौंदर्य की एक दिव्य स्त्री आकाश से उड़ती हुई आई,

तस्याः शरीरात्पुष्पाणि पतितानि महीतले तस्याश्रमस्याविदूरे दिव्यगन्धानि भारत

From her body, flowers fell to the ground, near her hermitage, with a divine fragrance, O descendant of Bharata.

हे भरत के वंशज, उनके शरीर से, दिव्य सुगंध के साथ, उनके आश्रम के पास, जमीन पर फूल गिरे।

तान्यगृह्णात्ततो राजन्रुचिर्नलिनलोचना तदा निमन्त्रकस्तस्या अङ्गेभ्यः क्षिप्रमागमत्

Then the king took them, O you of lotus-like eyes, Then the messenger quickly came from her body.

तब राजा ने उन्हें ले लिया, हे कमल जैसी आंखों वाली, तब दूत तुरंत उसके शरीर से बाहर आ गया।

तस्या हि भगिनी तात ज्येष्ठा नाम्ना प्रभावती भार्या चित्ररथस्याथ बभूवाङ्गेश्वरस्य वै

For, O son, his elder sister was named Prabhāvatī, who became the wife of Citraratha, the lord of Aṅga.

हे पुत्र, उसकी बड़ी बहन का नाम प्रभावती था, जो अंग के स्वामी चित्ररथ की पत्नी बनी।

पिनह्य तानि पुष्पाणि केशेषु वरवर्णिनी आमन्त्रिता ततोऽगच्छद्रुचिरङ्गपतेर्गृहान्

O you of beautiful complexion, tie those flowers in your hair. Then, invited, she went to the house of the lord of the beautiful deer.

हे सुन्दर रूप वाली, उन फूलों को अपने बालों में बाँध लो। फिर, आमंत्रित होकर, वह सुंदर हिरण के स्वामी के घर गयी।

पुष्पाणि तानि दृष्ट्वाथ तदाङ्गेन्द्रवराङ्गना भगिनीं चोदयामास पुष्पार्थे चारुलोचना

Seeing those flowers, the beautiful-eyed queen of Indra's brother urged her sister to get flowers.

उन फूलों को देखकर इंद्र के भाई की सुंदर आंखों वाली रानी ने अपनी बहन से फूल लाने का आग्रह किया।

सा भर्त्रे सर्वमाचष्ट रुचिः सुरुचिरानना भगिन्या भाषितं सर्वमृषिस्तच्चाभ्यनन्दत

She told all this to her husband, whose face was very beautiful. The sage was pleased with all that his sister had said.

उसने यह सब बात अपने पति को बतायी, जिसका चेहरा बहुत सुन्दर था। ऋषि अपनी बहन की सभी बातों से प्रसन्न हुए।

ततो विपुलमानाय्य देवशर्मा महातपाः पुष्पार्थे चोदयामास गच्छ गच्छेति भारत

Then Devasharma, the great ascetic, having brought a large quantity of flowers, asked Pushpa to go, saying, "Go, go," O descendant of Bharata.

तब महान तपस्वी देवशर्मा ने बड़ी मात्रा में फूल लाकर पुष्प को यह कहते हुए जाने के लिए कहा, "जाओ, जाओ," हे भरत के वंशज।

विपुलस्तु गुरोर्वाक्यमविचार्य महातपाः स तथेत्यब्रवीद्राजंस्तं च देशं जगाम ह

The great ascetic Vipula, without considering the words of his guru, said, "So be it," to the king, and went to that place.

महान तपस्वी विपुल ने अपने गुरु के शब्दों पर विचार किये बिना, राजा से 'ऐसा ही होगा' कहा, और उस स्थान पर चले गये।

यस्मिन्देशे तु तान्यासन्पतितानि नभस्तलात् अम्लानान्यपि तत्रासन्कुसुमान्यपराण्यपि

In the place where they fell from the sky, even the flowers that were not withered became withered.

जिस स्थान पर वे आकाश से गिरे, वहां जो फूल भी नहीं मुरझाये थे, वे भी मुरझा गये।

ततः स तानि जग्राह दिव्यानि रुचिराणि च प्राप्तानि स्वेन तपसा दिव्यगन्धानि भारत

Then he took those divine and beautiful garments that had been obtained through his own austerities, fragrant with divine scents, O descendant of Bharata.

फिर उन्होंने उन दिव्य और सुंदर वस्त्रों को ले लिया जो उनकी अपनी तपस्या से प्राप्त हुए थे, दिव्य सुगंध से सुगंधित, हे भरत के वंशज।

संप्राप्य तानि प्रीतात्मा गुरोर्वचनकारकः ततो जगाम तूर्णं च चम्पां चम्पकमालिनीम्

Having obtained them, he was pleased and did what his guru had said. Then he quickly went to Champā, adorned with champaka flowers.

उन्हें पाकर वह प्रसन्न हुआ और उसने वही किया जो उसके गुरु ने कहा था। फिर वह शीघ्र ही चंपक पुष्पों से सुसज्जित होकर चंपा के पास गया।

स वने विजने तात ददर्श मिथुनं नृणाम् चक्रवत्परिवर्तन्तं गृहीत्वा पाणिना करम्

In the forest, O son, he saw a couple of people turning around like a wheel, holding hands.

हे पुत्र, जंगल में उसने कुछ लोगों को हाथ पकड़कर पहिए की तरह घूमते देखा।

तत्रैकस्तूर्णमगमत्तत्पदे परिवर्तयन् एकस्तु न तथा राजंश्चक्रतुः कलहं ततः

One of them quickly went to that place and turned around, But the other one did not, O king, and they had a quarrel.

उनमें से एक तो तुरन्त उस स्थान पर गया और मुड़ गया, परन्तु हे राजा, दूसरा नहीं मुड़ा, और उनमें झगड़ा हो गया।

त्वं शीघ्रं गच्छसीत्येकोऽब्रवीन्नेति तथापरः नेति नेति च तौ तात परस्परमथोचतुः

One said, “You go quickly.” Another said, “No.” “No,” “No,” they said to each other.

एक ने कहा, “तुम जल्दी जाओ।” दूसरे ने कहा, "नहीं।" "नहीं," "नहीं," उन्होंने एक दूसरे से कहा।

तयोर्विस्पर्धतोरेवं शपथोऽयमभूत्तदा मनसोद्दिश्य विपुलं ततो वाक्यमथोचतुः

Then, as they were competing with each other, this oath was made: Then, with the mind as the object, they spoke these words:

तब, जब वे एक दूसरे से प्रतिस्पर्धा कर रहे थे, यह शपथ खाई गई: तब, मन को वस्तु मानकर, उन्होंने ये शब्द बोले:

आवयोरनृतं प्राह यस्तस्याथ द्विजस्य वै विपुलस्य परे लोके या गतिः सा भवेदिति

"The one who spoke untruth to us, that brahmin, may he have the same fate in the other world."

'जिस ब्राह्मण ने हमसे असत्य बोला है, परलोक में उसकी भी यही गति हो।'

एतच्छ्रुत्वा तु विपुलो विषण्णवदनोऽभवत् एवं तीव्रतपाश्चाहं कष्टश्चायं परिग्रहः

Hearing this, Vipula became despondent. "Thus, I am of intense austerities, and this is a difficult possession."

यह सुनकर विपुला निराश हो गई। "इस प्रकार, मैं गहन तपस्या का हूँ, और यह एक कठिन अधिकार है।"

मिथुनस्यास्य किं मे स्यात्कृतं पापं यतो गतिः अनिष्टा सर्वभूतानां कीर्तितानेन मेऽद्य वै

What is the use of this pair to me? What sin has been committed by me, from which there is no escape? This has been declared to me today by him, which is undesirable for

इस जोड़ी का मेरे लिए क्या उपयोग है? मुझसे कौन-सा पाप हो गया है, जिससे छुटकारा नहीं? यह बात उन्होंने आज मुझे बताई है, जो अवांछनीय है

एवं संचिन्तयन्नेव विपुलो राजसत्तम अवाङ्मुखो न्यस्तशिरा दध्यौ दुष्कृतमात्मनः

Thus reflecting, the excellent king Vipula bowed his head and pondered on his own evil deeds.

इस प्रकार विचार करते हुए श्रेष्ठ राजा विपुल ने सिर झुकाया और अपने बुरे कर्मों पर विचार किया।

ततः षडन्यान्पुरुषानक्षैः काञ्चनराजतैः अपश्यद्दीव्यमानान्वै लोभहर्षान्वितांस्तथा

Then he saw six other men playing with golden and silver dice, and also with greed and joy.

फिर उसने छह अन्य लोगों को सोने और चांदी के पासों के साथ खेलते हुए देखा, वह भी लालच और खुशी के साथ।

कुर्वतः शपथं तं वै यः कृतो मिथुनेन वै विपुलं वै समुद्दिश्य तेऽपि वाक्यमथाब्रुवन्

When he was making an oath, that was made by the couple, and when they were addressing the great one, they also spoke these words:

जब वह शपथ ले रहा था, तो वह शपथ उस जोड़े ने ली थी, और जब वे उस महान व्यक्ति को संबोधित कर रहे थे, तो उन्होंने ये शब्द भी बोले:

यो लोभमास्थायास्माकं विषमं कर्तुमुत्सहेत् विपुलस्य परे लोके या गतिस्तामवाप्नुयात्

Whoever, out of greed, would dare to do us harm will attain the great destiny in the other world.

जो कोई लोभ के कारण हमें हानि पहुंचाने का साहस करेगा, उसे परलोक में महान भाग्य प्राप्त होगा।

एतच्छ्रुत्वा तु विपुलो नापश्यद्धर्मसंकरम् जन्मप्रभृति कौरव्य कृतपूर्वमथात्मनः

Hearing this, Vipula did not see any mixing of the Dharma. O descendant of the Kuru lineage, he saw what he had done in his previous births.

यह सुनकर विपुला को धर्म में कोई मिलावट नजर नहीं आई। हे कुरु वंश के वंशज, उसने देखा कि उसने अपने पिछले जन्मों में क्या किया था।

स प्रदध्यौ तदा राजन्नग्नावग्निरिवाहितः दह्यमानेन मनसा शापं श्रुत्वा तथाविधम्

He meditated then, O king, like fire in fire, with his mind burning, having heard such a curse.

तब हे राजन, ऐसा श्राप सुनकर उसने आग में जलते हुए मन के समान ध्यान किया।

तस्य चिन्तयतस्तात बह्व्यो दिननिशा ययुः इदमासीन्मनसि च रुच्या रक्षणकारितम्

And while he was thinking, many days and nights passed, O father. This was in his mind, and it was done out of affection.

और जब वह सोच ही रहा था, हे पिता, बहुत दिन और रातें बीत गईं। यह उसके मन में था और स्नेहवश ऐसा किया गया था।

लक्षणं लक्षणेनैव वदनं वदनेन च विधाय न मया चोक्तं सत्यमेतद्गुरोस्तदा

The characteristic by the characteristic itself, the speaking by the speaking itself, Having done this, I did not say this to be true then, O Guru.

लक्षण से ही लक्षण, बोलने से ही बोलना, ऐसा करके फिर मैंने ये सत्य नहीं कहा गुरुवर।

एतदात्मनि कौरव्य दुष्कृतं विपुलस्तदा अमन्यत महाभाग तथा तच्च न संशयः

O descendant of the Kuru lineage, he considered this to be his own great sin at that time. The illustrious one thought so, and there is no doubt about it.

हे कुरु वंश के वंशज, उन्होंने उस समय इसे अपना महान पाप माना। उस महान व्यक्ति ने ऐसा सोचा था, और इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है।

स चम्पां नगरीमेत्य पुष्पाणि गुरवे ददौ पूजयामास च गुरुं विधिवत्स गुरुप्रियः

Having gone to the city of Campā, he offered flowers to his teacher. And he worshipped his teacher in accordance with the rules, being devoted to his teacher.

कैंपा शहर में जाकर उन्होंने अपने शिक्षक को फूल चढ़ाए। और वह अपने गुरु के प्रति समर्पित होकर विधि विधान से अपने गुरु की पूजा करता था।
