भीष्म उवाच एतस्मिन्नेव काले तु वसिष्ठमृषिसत्तमम् इक्ष्वाकुवंशजो राजा सौदासो ददतां वरः

सर्वलोकचरं सिद्धं ब्रह्मकोशं सनातनम् पुरोहितमिदं प्रष्टुमभिवाद्योपचक्रमे

The one who wanders in all worlds, the accomplished one, the eternal abode of Brahman, Having bowed to ask this priest, he began.

वह जो समस्त लोकों में विचरता है, सिद्ध है, ब्रह्म का शाश्वत निवास है, इस पुजारी से पूछने के लिए झुककर वह शुरू हुआ।

सौदास उवाच त्रैलोक्ये भगवन्किं स्वित्पवित्रं कथ्यतेऽनघ यत्कीर्तयन्सदा मर्त्यः प्राप्नुयात्पुण्यमुत्तमम्

Saudasa said: O Lord, what is considered to be the most sacred in the three worlds, O sinless one? By constantly reciting which, a mortal would attain supreme merit?

सौदासा ने कहा: हे भगवान, हे पापरहित, तीनों लोकों में सबसे पवित्र क्या माना जाता है? किसका निरंतर पाठ करने से मनुष्य को परम पुण्य की प्राप्ति होती है?

भीष्म उवाच तस्मै प्रोवाच वचनं प्रणताय हितं तदा गवामुपनिषद्विद्वान्नमस्कृत्य गवां शुचिः

भीष्म ने कहा- जो झुक रहा था, उससे उन्होंने उस समय हित की बातें कहीं। गायों के उपनिषद को जानकर, गायों की पवित्रता के प्रति नतमस्तक होकर

गावः सुरभिगन्धिन्यस्तथा गुग्गुलुगन्धिकाः गावः प्रतिष्ठा भूतानां गावः स्वस्त्ययनं महत्

स्वाहाकारवषट्कारौ गोषु नित्यं प्रतिष्ठितौ गावो यज्ञस्य हि फलं गोषु यज्ञाः प्रतिष्ठिताः

The syllables "svāhā" and "vaṣaṭ" are always established in cows. Cows are indeed the fruit of the sacrifice; sacrifices are established in cows.

सायं प्रातश्च सततं होमकाले महामते गावो ददति वै होम्यमृषिभ्यः पुरुषर्षभ

कानिचिद्यानि दुर्गाणि दुष्कृतानि कृतानि च तरन्ति चैव पाप्मानं धेनुं ये ददति प्रभो

गवां मूत्रपुरीषस्य नोद्विजेत कदाचन न चासां मांसमश्नीयाद्गवां व्युष्टिं तथाश्नुते

गाश्च संकीर्तयेन्नित्यं नावमन्येत गास्तथा अनिष्टं स्वप्नमालक्ष्य गां नरः संप्रकीर्तयेत्

उसे सदैव गौओं की प्रशंसा करनी चाहिए न कि उनका तिरस्कार करना चाहिए। अशुभ स्वप्न देखने पर मनुष्य को गौओं की प्रशंसा करनी चाहिए।

गोमयेन सदा स्नायाद्गोकरीषे च संविशेत् श्लेष्ममूत्रपुरीषाणि प्रतिघातं च वर्जयेत्

He should always bathe in cowdung and sleep on cowdung. He should avoid phlegm, urine, feces, and resistance.

उसे सदैव गाय के गोबर से स्नान करना चाहिए और गोबर पर ही सोना चाहिए। उसे कफ, मूत्र, मल और अवरोध से बचना चाहिए।

सार्द्रचर्मणि भुञ्जीत निरीक्षन्वारुणीं दिशम् वाग्यतः सर्पिषा भूमौ गवां व्युष्टिं तथाश्नुते

One should eat on a wet hide, looking towards the western direction, and silently, with ghee on the ground, one attains the prosperity of cows.

गीली खाल पर, पश्चिम दिशा की ओर मुख करके तथा भूमि पर घी रखकर चुपचाप भोजन करना चाहिए, इससे गौओं के समान समृद्धि प्राप्त होती है।

घृतेन जुहुयादग्निं घृतेन स्वस्ति वाचयेत् घृतं दद्याद्घृतं प्राशेद्गवां व्युष्टिं तथाश्नुते

One should offer oblations into the fire with ghee, and recite the benediction with ghee. One should give ghee, eat ghee, and thus attain the prosperity of cows.

अग्नि में घी से आहुति देनी चाहिए और घी से मंगल पाठ करना चाहिए। मनुष्य को घी देना चाहिए, घी खाना चाहिए और इस प्रकार गायों की समृद्धि प्राप्त करनी चाहिए।

गोमत्या विद्यया धेनुं तिलानामभिमन्त्र्य यः रसरत्नमयीं दद्यान्न स शोचेत्कृताकृते

One who, having enchanted a cow with the Gomatī Vidya and sesame seeds, gives a cow made of jewels, does not grieve over what is done or not done.

जो व्यक्ति गौ को गौमाता विद्या और तिलों से मंत्रमुग्ध करके रत्नों से बनी गौ देता है, वह किए या न किए गए कार्य पर शोक नहीं करता।

गावो मामुपतिष्ठन्तु हेमशृङ्गाः पयोमुचः सुरभ्यः सौरभेयाश्च सरितः सागरं यथा

May the cows, with golden horns and flowing milk, and the fragrant and fragrant ones, like rivers to the ocean,

सुनहरे सींगों वाली और दूध की धारा बहाने वाली, और समुद्र की ओर बहने वाली नदियों के समान सुगन्धित और सुगन्धित गौएँ,

गावः पश्यन्तु मां नित्यं गावः पश्याम्यहं तदा गावोऽस्माकं वयं तासां यतो गावस्ततो वयम्
