Anushasanaparvan · v1

Yudhi Shthira said: Even a very strong person does not obtain wealth if he is not destined to do so. But even a weak or young person obtains wealth if he is destined

Anushasanaparvan · v2

Even when one makes an effort, one does not obtain it at the time of non-obtaining. Even without making an effort, one obtains abundant wealth at the time of obtaining. Hundreds

Anushasanaparvan · v3

If a man makes an effort, he will obtain all the fruits. And what is not to be obtained will be obtained by men, O best of the Bharatas.

Anushasanaparvan · v4

When one makes an effort, one sees a man who is fruitless. One who follows hundreds of paths gets wealth, and another who does not follow a path is happy.

Anushasanaparvan · v5

Those who have done many wrong deeds are seen to be poor. And others who are rich are seen to be in the grip of vice.

Anushasanaparvan · v6

Having studied statecraft, why is he not seen to be endowed with statecraft? And why has he been appointed as a minister without being recognized? And why is he endowed with knowledge,

Anushasanaparvan · v7

If a man could attain happiness by resorting to knowledge, A learned man should not resort to a person who is poor and lacks knowledge for the sake of livelihood.

Anushasanaparvan · v8

Just as a man conquers thirst by obtaining water, So a person who has seen the truth conquers ignorance by knowledge.

Anushasanaparvan · v9

One who is not destined to die does not die even if pierced by hundreds of arrows. One who is destined to die does not live even if touched by the tip of a blade of grass

Anushasanaparvan · v10

Bhishma said: If one who is striving for wealth does not obtain it, One should undertake fierce austerities, for what is not sown does not grow.

Anushasanaparvan · v11

By giving, one becomes wealthy and wise; by serving the elders, and by non-violence, one becomes long-lived, say the wise.

Anushasanaparvan · v12

Therefore, one should give, not beg; one should worship even the righteous. One who speaks kindly, who is compassionate, pure, and does not harm any being,

Anushasanaparvan · v13

When the nature of happiness and unhappiness is produced by valid means of knowledge, O Yudhishthira, be firm like a mosquito, an insect, or a worm.
