व्यास उवाच शुभेन कर्मणा यद्वै तिर्यग्योनौ न मुह्यसे ममैव कीट तत्कर्म येन त्वं न प्रमुह्यसे

Vyasa said: By your auspicious deeds, you are not deluded in the animal realm. O insect, by that deed of mine, you are not deluded.

व्यास ने कहा: अपने शुभ कर्मों से तुम पशुलोक में मोहित नहीं होते। हे कीट, मेरे उस कर्म से तू मोहित नहीं हुआ।

अहं हि दर्शनादेव तारयामि तपोबलात् तपोबलाद्धि बलवद्बलमन्यन्न विद्यते

For by merely seeing me, I deliver (beings) by the power of austerities. For by the power of austerities, there is no other power that is stronger.

क्योंकि मेरे दर्शन मात्र से मैं तपस्या के बल से प्राणियों का उद्धार करता हूँ। क्योंकि तपस्या के बल से अधिक शक्तिशाली कोई शक्ति नहीं है।

जानामि पापैः स्वकृतैर्गतं त्वां कीट कीटताम् अवाप्स्यसि परं धर्मं धर्मस्थो यदि मन्यसे

I know that you have fallen into the state of an insect due to your own evil deeds. If you think that you are established in righteousness, you will attain the highest righteousness.

मैं जानता हूं कि तुम अपने बुरे कर्मों के कारण कीट की अवस्था में पहुंच गये हो। यदि आप सोचते हैं कि आप धार्मिकता में स्थापित हैं, तो आप सर्वोच्च धार्मिकता प्राप्त करेंगे।

कर्म भूमिकृतं देवा भुञ्जते तिर्यगाश्च ये धर्मादपि मनुष्येषु कामोऽर्थश्च यथा गुणैः

The gods and the animals enjoy the fruits of their deeds. Even among humans, desire and wealth are like qualities.

देवता और जानवर अपने कर्मों का फल भोगते हैं। मनुष्यों में भी इच्छा और धन गुण के समान हैं।

वाग्बुद्धिपाणिपादैश्चाप्युपेतस्य विपश्चितः किं हीयते मनुष्यस्य मन्दस्यापि हि जीवतः

What is lacking in a wise man who is endowed with speech, intellect, hands, and feet? Even a dull person who is alive lacks nothing.

वाणी, बुद्धि, हाथ और पैरों से संपन्न बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति में क्या कमी है? जीवित नीरस व्यक्ति के पास भी किसी चीज़ की कमी नहीं होती।

जीवन्हि कुरुते पूजां विप्राग्र्यः शशिसूर्ययोः ब्रुवन्नपि कथां पुण्यां तत्र कीट त्वमेष्यसि

The best of Brahmins, while alive, worships the moon and the sun. Even if you speak of a virtuous story, you will become an insect there.

श्रेष्ठ ब्राह्मण जीवित रहते हुए चंद्रमा और सूर्य की पूजा करते हैं। यदि आप किसी पुण्य कथा की बात भी करेंगे तो भी आप वहां कीट बन जायेंगे।

गुणभूतानि भूतानि तत्र त्वमुपभोक्ष्यसे तत्र तेऽहं विनेष्यामि ब्रह्मत्वं यत्र चेच्छसि

You will enjoy the elements which are the qualities of the Self. There I will instruct you in Brahmanhood, wherever you desire.

आप उन तत्वों का आनंद लेंगे जो आत्मा के गुण हैं। वहाँ मैं तुम्हें ब्राह्मणत्व की शिक्षा दूँगा, जहाँ तुम चाहोगे।

स तथेति प्रतिश्रुत्य कीटो वर्त्मन्यतिष्ठत तमृषिं द्रष्टुमगमत्सर्वास्वन्यासु योनिषु

Having promised to do so, the insect stood on the path. He went to see the sage in all the other wombs.

ऐसा करने का वादा करके कीड़ा रास्ते पर खड़ा हो गया। वह अन्य सभी गर्भों में ऋषि के दर्शन करने गया।

श्वाविद्गोधावराहाणां तथैव मृगपक्षिणाम् श्वपाकवैश्यशूद्राणां क्षत्रियाणां च योनिषु

In the wombs of dogs, cows, pigs, deer, birds, and in the wombs of outcasts, vaishyas, shudras, and kshatriyas,

कुत्तों, गायों, सूअरों, हिरणों, पक्षियों के गर्भ में, और बहिष्कृत, वैश्य, शूद्र और क्षत्रिय के गर्भ में,

स कीटेत्येवमाभाष्य ऋषिणा सत्यवादिना प्रतिस्मृत्याथ जग्राह पादौ मूर्ध्ना कृताञ्जलिः

Having been addressed thus by the sage who spoke the truth, he remembered and then took hold of his feet with folded hands.

सत्य बोलने वाले मुनि के इस प्रकार कहने पर उसे स्मरण आया और फिर उसने हाथ जोड़कर उनके चरण पकड़ लिये।

कीट उवाच इदं तदतुलं स्थानमीप्सितं दशभिर्गुणैः यदहं प्राप्य कीटत्वमागतो राजपुत्रताम्

The insect said: This is the incomparable place, desired by ten qualities, By attaining which I have come from being an insect to the state of a prince.

कीड़े ने कहा: यह दस गुणों से वांछित अतुलनीय स्थान है, जिसे पाकर मैं कीड़े से राजकुमार की अवस्था में आ गया हूं।

वहन्ति मामतिबलाः कुञ्जरा हेममालिनः स्यन्दनेषु च काम्बोजा युक्ताः परमवाजिनः

The elephants, with golden garlands, carry me, very strong. The Kambójas are yoked to the chariots, the supreme horses.

सोने की मालाओं से सुसज्जित हाथी मुझे अत्यंत बलपूर्वक ले जाते हैं। कम्बोज रथों, सर्वोच्च घोड़ों से जुड़े हुए हैं।

उष्ट्राश्वतरयुक्तानि यानानि च वहन्ति माम् सबान्धवः सहामात्यश्चाश्नामि पिशितौदनम्

The vehicles are yoked with camels and donkeys and carry me. With my relatives and ministers, I eat meat and rice.

गाड़ियाँ ऊँटों और गधों से लदी हुई हैं और मुझे ले जाती हैं। मैं अपने रिश्तेदारों और मंत्रियों के साथ मांस और चावल खाता हूं.

गृहेषु सुनिवासेषु सुखेषु शयनेषु च परार्ध्येषु महाभाग स्वपामीह सुपूजितः

In my house, in my comfortable dwelling, in my bed of ease, I sleep, O noble one, well honored, on a bed of great value.

मेरे घर में, मेरे आरामदायक आवास में, मेरे आराम के बिस्तर पर, मैं सोता हूं, हे महान व्यक्ति, बहुत सम्मानित, बहुत मूल्यवान बिस्तर पर।

सर्वेष्वपररात्रेषु सूतमागधबन्दिनः स्तुवन्ति मां यथा देवं महेन्द्रं प्रियवादिनः

In all the later watches of the night, the bards, the minstrels, and the poets praise me like a god, like the great Indra, with sweet words.

रात्रि के बाद के सभी प्रहरों में भाट, वादक और कवि एक देवता के समान, महान इंद्र के समान मधुर शब्दों से मेरी स्तुति करते हैं।

प्रसादात्सत्यसंधस्य भवतोऽमिततेजसः यदहं कीटतां प्राप्य संप्राप्तो राजपुत्रताम्

By the grace of you, the one who keeps his promises, of immeasurable splendor, I, having become a worm, have attained the status of a prince.

अपने वचनों का पालन करने वाले, अथाह वैभव वाले, आपकी कृपा से मैं कीड़ा बनकर राजकुमार पद को प्राप्त हुआ हूं।

नमस्तेऽस्तु महाप्राज्ञ किं करोमि प्रशाधि माम् त्वत्तपोबलनिर्दिष्टमिदं ह्यधिगतं मया

Salutations to you, O greatly wise one! What shall I do? Rule over me. This has been attained by me, which is indicated by your power of penance.

हे महाबुद्धिमान, आपको नमस्कार है! मैं क्या करूँगा? मुझ पर शासन करो. यह मुझे प्राप्त हो चुका है, जिसका संकेत आपकी तपस्या के बल से मिलता है।

व्यास उवाच अर्चितोऽहं त्वया राजन्वाग्भिरद्य यदृच्छया अद्य ते कीटतां प्राप्य स्मृतिर्जाताजुगुप्सिता

Vyasa said: O king, today I have been worshipped by you with words, by chance. Today, having attained the state of an insect, you have gained the despised memory.

व्यास ने कहा: हे राजन, आज संयोग से आपके द्वारा शब्दों से मेरी पूजा हुई है। आज तुम्हें कीट की अवस्था प्राप्त होकर तिरस्कृत स्मृति प्राप्त हो गयी है।

न तु नाशोऽस्ति पापस्य यत्त्वयोपचितं पुरा शूद्रेणार्थप्रधानेन नृशंसेनाततायिना

But there is no destruction of the sin that you have accumulated in the past, by a Shudra who is motivated by wealth, cruel, and a murderer.

परंतु धन से प्रेरित, क्रूर और हत्यारे शूद्र के द्वारा पूर्व में संचित पाप का नाश नहीं होता।

मम ते दर्शनं प्राप्तं तच्चैव सुकृतं पुरा तिर्यग्योनौ स्म जातेन मम चाप्यर्चनात्तथा

I have attained your vision, and that is also well-done from the past. Even when born in the animal realm, by worshipping you,

मुझे आपका दर्शन प्राप्त हो गया है और वह भी पूर्वकाल से ही अच्छा हुआ है। पशुलोक में जन्म लेने पर भी आपकी पूजा करने से,

इतस्त्वं राजपुत्रत्वाद्ब्राह्मण्यं समवाप्स्यसि गोब्राह्मणकृते प्राणान्हुत्वात्मीयान्रणाजिरे

From here, you will attain the status of a Brahmin from the status of a prince. By offering your own life for the sake of cows and Brahmins in the battlefield,

यहाँ से तुम प्रिन्स से ब्राह्मण पद पायेंगे। युद्धभूमि में गौओं तथा ब्राह्मणों के लिये अपने प्राणों की आहुति देकर,

राजपुत्रसुखं प्राप्य ऋतूंश्चैवाप्तदक्षिणान् अथ मोदिष्यसे स्वर्गे ब्रह्मभूतोऽव्ययः सुखी

Having attained the happiness of a prince and the seasons with their proper offerings, Then you will rejoice in heaven, becoming Brahman, imperishable and blissful.

तब तुम राजकुमार और ऋतुओं का सुख उनके उचित प्रसाद से प्राप्त करके, ब्रह्म, अविनाशी और आनंदित होकर स्वर्ग में आनंद मनाओगे।

तिर्यग्योन्याः शूद्रतामभ्युपैति; शूद्रो वैश्यत्वं क्षत्रियत्वं च वैश्यः वृत्तश्लाघी क्षत्रियो ब्राह्मणत्वं; स्वर्गं पुण्यं ब्राह्मणः साधुवृत्तः

From the animal state he passes to the state of a Śūdra; the Śūdra to the state of a Vaiśya; the Vaiśya to the state of a Kṣatri
