युधिष्ठिर उवाच यद्वरं सर्वतीर्थानां तद्ब्रवीहि पितामह यत्र वै परमं शौचं तन्मे व्याख्यातुमर्हसि

Yudhisthira said O Grandfather, tell me which is the best of all the holy places, where supreme purity is attained. It is proper for you to explain this to me.

युधिष्ठिर ने कहा हे पितामह, मुझे बताएं कि सभी तीर्थों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ कौन सा है, जहां परम पवित्रता प्राप्त होती है। आपके लिये यही उचित है कि आप मुझे यह बात समझायें।

भीष्म उवाच सर्वाणि खलु तीर्थानि गुणवन्ति मनीषिणाम् यत्तु तीर्थं च शौचं च तन्मे शृणु समाहितः

Bhishma said: All the holy places are endowed with good qualities for the wise. But listen to me with a concentrated mind about that holy place and purity.

भीष्म ने कहा: बुद्धिमानों के लिए सभी तीर्थ अच्छे गुणों से युक्त हैं। परंतु उस पवित्र स्थान और पवित्रता के विषय में मेरी बात एकाग्रचित्त होकर सुनो।

अगाधे विमले शुद्धे सत्यतोये धृतिह्रदे स्नातव्यं मानसे तीर्थे सत्त्वमालम्ब्य शाश्वतम्

In the deep, pure, and clear ocean of truth, the lake of steadfastness, One should bathe in the mental sacred place, relying on the eternal essence.

सत्य के गहरे, शुद्ध और स्पष्ट सागर में, दृढ़ता की झील में, शाश्वत सार पर भरोसा करते हुए, मानसिक पवित्र स्थान पर स्नान करना चाहिए।

तीर्थशौचमनर्थित्वमार्दवं सत्यमार्जवम् अहिंसा सर्वभूतानामानृशंस्यं दमः शमः

Purity of the sacred places, non-desire, gentleness, truth, honesty, Non-violence towards all beings, non-cruelty, self-control, tranquility,

पवित्र स्थानों की पवित्रता, गैर-इच्छा, नम्रता, सच्चाई, ईमानदारी, सभी प्राणियों के प्रति अहिंसा, गैर-क्रूरता, आत्म-नियंत्रण, शांति,

निर्ममा निरहंकारा निर्द्वंद्वा निष्परिग्रहाः शुचयस्तीर्थभूतास्ते ये भैक्षमुपभुञ्जते

Free from ego and pride, free from duality and possessions, Pure and worthy of veneration are those who partake of alms.

अहं और अभिमान से मुक्त, द्वंद्व और संपत्ति से मुक्त, पवित्र और पूजा के योग्य वे हैं जो भिक्षा लेते हैं।

तत्त्ववित्त्वनहंबुद्धिस्तीर्थं परममुच्यते शौचलक्षणमेतत्ते सर्वत्रैवान्ववेक्षणम्

The knowledge of the truth, the knowledge of the non-self, is said to be the supreme sacred place. This is the characteristic of purity, the contemplation of everything.

सत्य का ज्ञान, आत्मा का ज्ञान, सर्वोच्च पवित्र स्थान कहा जाता है। यही है पवित्रता का लक्षण, हर चीज़ का चिंतन।

रजस्तमः सत्त्वमथो येषां निर्धौतमात्मनः शौचाशौचे न ते सक्ताः स्वकार्यपरिमार्गिणः

Those whose Rajas, Tamas, and Sattva are purified, are not attached to purity or impurity, but are intent on their own duty.

जिनके रज, तम और सत्व शुद्ध हो गए हैं, वे पवित्रता या अशुद्धता से बंधे नहीं हैं, बल्कि अपने कर्तव्य पर कायम हैं।

सर्वत्यागेष्वभिरताः सर्वज्ञाः सर्वदर्शिनः शौचेन वृत्तशौचार्थास्ते तीर्थाः शुचयश्च ते

Devoted to all renunciations, omniscient, all-seeing, For the sake of purity and conduct, they are the pure ones, they are the sacred places.

सभी त्यागी, सर्वज्ञ, सर्वदर्शी, पवित्रता और आचरण के लिए, वे पवित्र हैं, वे पवित्र स्थान हैं।

नोदकक्लिन्नगात्रस्तु स्नात इत्यभिधीयते स स्नातो यो दमस्नातः सबाह्याभ्यन्तरः शुचिः

जिसका शरीर पानी से गीला न हो उसे स्नान नहीं करना चाहिए। वह जो स्नान कर चुका है, जो आत्म-नियंत्रण में स्नान कर चुका है, जो बाहरी और आंतरिक दोनों तरह से शुद्ध है,

अतीतेष्वनपेक्षा ये प्राप्तेष्वर्थेषु निर्ममाः शौचमेव परं तेषां येषां नोत्पद्यते स्पृहा

Those who are not attached to the past, who are free from possessiveness towards the things they have attained, For those who do not give rise to desire, purity alone is supreme.

जो लोग अतीत से जुड़े नहीं हैं, जो हासिल की गई चीज़ों के प्रति स्वामित्व से मुक्त हैं, जो इच्छा को जन्म नहीं देते, उनके लिए पवित्रता ही सर्वोच्च है।

प्रज्ञानं शौचमेवेह शरीरस्य विशेषतः तथा निष्किंचनत्वं च मनसश्च प्रसन्नता

Knowledge, purity, especially of the body, and also being without anything, and the mind being clear.

ज्ञान, पवित्रता, विशेष रूप से शरीर का, और बिना कुछ भी होना, और मन का स्पष्ट होना।

वृत्तशौचं मनःशौचं तीर्थशौचं परं हितम् ज्ञानोत्पन्नं च यच्छौचं तच्छौचं परमं मतम्

Purity of conduct, purity of mind, and purity of the sacred place are the highest good. And the purity that arises from knowledge, that purity is considered the highest.

आचरण की पवित्रता, मन की पवित्रता और पवित्र स्थान की पवित्रता सर्वोच्च अच्छाई है। और जो पवित्रता ज्ञान से उत्पन्न होती है, वह पवित्रता सर्वोच्च मानी जाती है।

मनसाथ प्रदीपेन ब्रह्मज्ञानबलेन च स्नाता ये मानसे तीर्थे तज्ज्ञाः क्षेत्रज्ञदर्शिनः

By the mind, by the lamp, by the power of knowledge of Brahman, Those who have bathed in the mental holy place, they are the knowers of the field, the seers

मन से, दीपक से, ब्रह्मज्ञान की शक्ति से, जिन्होंने मानसिक पवित्र स्थान में स्नान किया है, वे क्षेत्र के ज्ञाता, द्रष्टा हैं

समारोपितशौचस्तु नित्यं भावसमन्वितः केवलं गुणसंपन्नः शुचिरेव नरः सदा

One who has imposed purity, always endowed with mental disposition, Only endowed with good qualities, that man is always pure.

जिसने पवित्रता का आचरण किया है, वह सदैव मानसिक स्वभाव से संपन्न है, केवल अच्छे गुणों से संपन्न है, वह मनुष्य सदैव शुद्ध है।

शरीरस्थानि तीर्थानि प्रोक्तान्येतानि भारत पृथिव्यां यानि तीर्थानि पुण्यानि शृणु तान्यपि

These are the sacred places on the body, O descendant of Bharata. Now listen to the sacred places on the earth.

हे भरत के वंशज, ये शरीर पर पवित्र स्थान हैं। अब पृथ्वी पर पवित्र स्थानों के बारे में सुनो।

यथा शरीरस्योद्देशाः शुचयः परिनिर्मिताः तथा पृथिव्या भागाश्च पुण्यानि सलिलानि च

Just as the parts of the body are well-formed and pure, so are the parts of the earth, the sacred waters,

जिस प्रकार शरीर के अंग सुगठित और शुद्ध होते हैं, उसी प्रकार पृथ्वी के अंग, पवित्र जल भी सुगठित और शुद्ध होते हैं।

प्रार्थनाच्चैव तीर्थस्य स्नानाच्च पितृतर्पणात् धुनन्ति पापं तीर्थेषु पूता यान्ति दिवं सुखम्

By praying to the Tīrtha, by bathing in it, and by offering libations to the ancestors, The purified ones shake off their sins in the Tīrthas and go to

तीर्थ की प्रार्थना करके, उसमें स्नान करके, और पितरों को तर्पण देकर, पवित्र लोग तीर्थ में अपने पापों को मिटा देते हैं और चले जाते हैं।

परिग्रहाच्च साधूनां पृथिव्याश्चैव तेजसा अतीव पुण्यास्ते भागाः सलिलस्य च तेजसा

By the power of the good and by the power of the earth, Those parts of the water are extremely meritorious by the power of the water.

भलाई की शक्ति से और पृथ्वी की शक्ति से, जल के वे भाग जल की शक्ति से अत्यंत मेधावी हैं।

मनसश्च पृथिव्याश्च पुण्यतीर्थास्तथापरे उभयोरेव यः स्नातः स सिद्धिं शीघ्रमाप्नुयात्

And the sacred places of the mind and the earth, and others. He who bathes in both of them will quickly attain success.

और मन और पृथ्वी के पवित्र स्थान, और अन्य। जो इन दोनों में स्नान करेगा उसे शीघ्र ही सिद्धि प्राप्त होगी।

यथा बलं क्रियाहीनं क्रिया वा बलवर्जिता नेह साधयते कार्यं समायुक्तस्तु सिध्यति

Just as strength without action or action without strength does not accomplish a task here, but when united it is accomplished.

जिस प्रकार बिना कर्म के शक्ति या बिना शक्ति के कर्म से यहाँ कोई कार्य सिद्ध नहीं होता, परन्तु संगठित होने पर वह कार्य सिद्ध हो जाता है।

एवं शरीरशौचेन तीर्थशौचेन चान्वितः ततः सिद्धिमवाप्नोति द्विविधं शौचमुत्तमम्

Thus endowed with purity of body and purity of sacred places, he attains the two kinds of supreme purity.

इस प्रकार शरीर की पवित्रता और पवित्र स्थानों की पवित्रता से संपन्न होकर, वह दो प्रकार की सर्वोच्च पवित्रता प्राप्त करता है।
