संजय उवाच तस्मिन्हते गजानीके पुत्रो दुर्योधनस्तव भीमसेनं घ्नतेत्येवं सर्वसैन्यान्यचोदयत्

Sañjaya said: When that army of elephants was destroyed, your son, Duryodhana, instructed all the soldiers to kill Bhīmasena.

संजय ने कहा: जब हाथियों की सेना नष्ट हो गई, तो आपके पुत्र दुर्योधन ने सभी सैनिकों को भीमसेन को मारने का निर्देश दिया।

ततः सर्वाण्यनीकानि तव पुत्रस्य शासनात् अभ्यद्रवन्भीमसेनं नदन्तं भैरवान्रवान्

On your son's instructions, all the soldiers uttered terrible roars and rushed against Bhīmasena. That large army was incapable of being assailed, even by the gods.

आपके पुत्र के आदेश पर सभी सैनिक भयानक गर्जना करते हुए भीमसेन पर टूट पड़े। वह विशाल सेना देवताओं द्वारा भी आक्रमण करने में असमर्थ थी।

तं बलौघमपर्यन्तं देवैरपि दुरुत्सहम् आपतन्तं सुदुष्पारं समुद्रमिव पर्वणि

It was as difficult to cross as the turbulent ocean, on the night of the new or full moon.

अमावस्या या पूर्णिमा की रात को अशांत सागर को पार करना उतना ही कठिन था।

रथनागाश्वकलिलं शङ्खदुन्दुभिनादितम् अथानन्तमपारं च नरेन्द्रस्तिमितह्रदम्

It was full of chariots, horses and elephants. There was the sound of conch shells. There were a large number of kings in it and it was incapable of being agitated.

वह रथों, घोड़ों और हाथियों से भरा हुआ था। शंखों की ध्वनि होने लगी। इसमें बड़ी संख्या में राजा थे और यह उत्तेजित होने में असमर्थ था।

तं भीमसेनः समरे महोदधिमिवापरम् सेनासागरमक्षोभ्यं वेलेव समवारयत्

As it advanced, Bhīmasena stationed himself in the battle, against a large ocean. He was like the shore, withstanding that ocean of soldiers.

जैसे-जैसे यह आगे बढ़ा, भीमसेन ने खुद को एक बड़े महासागर के सामने युद्ध में तैनात कर दिया। वह किनारे की तरह था, सैनिकों के उस सागर को झेल रहा था।

तदाश्चर्यमपश्याम श्रद्धेयमपि चाद्भुतम् भीमसेनस्य समरे राजन्कर्मातिमानुषम्

O king! In that battle, we faithfully witnessed Bhīmasena's wonderful, extraordinary and superhuman deed.

हे राजा! उस युद्ध में, हमने ईमानदारी से भीमसेन के अद्भुत, असाधारण और अलौकिक कार्य को देखा।

उदीर्णां पृथिवीं सर्वां साश्वां सरथकुञ्जराम् असंभ्रमं भीमसेनो गदया समताडयत्

Without any hesitation, Bhīmasena countered all those kings, horses, chariots and elephants with his club.

भीमसेन ने बिना किसी हिचकिचाहट के अपनी गदा से उन सभी राजाओं, घोड़ों, रथों और हाथियों का मुकाबला किया।

स संवार्य बलौघांस्तान्गदया रथिनां वरः अतिष्ठत्तुमुले भीमो गिरिर्मेरुरिवाचलः

That supreme of charioteers used his club to check that large army. Bhīmā stood immobile in that melee, like Mount Meru.

महारथियों में श्रेष्ठ उस विशाल सेना को रोकने के लिए अपनी गदा का उपयोग किया। भीम उस हाथापाई में मेरु पर्वत की भाँति स्थिर खड़ा था।

तस्मिन्सुतुमुले घोरे काले परमदारुणे भ्रातरश्चैव पुत्राश्च धृष्टद्युम्नश्च पार्षतः

At that extremely tumultuous and supremely dreadful time, his brothers, his sons, Pārṣata Dhṛṣṭadyumna,

उस अत्यंत उथल-पुथल भरे और अत्यंत भयानक समय में, उनके भाई, उनके पुत्र, परशत धृष्टद्युम्न,

द्रौपदेयाभिमन्युश्च शिखण्डी च महारथः न प्राजहन्भीमसेनं भये जाते महाबलम्

Draupadī's sons, Abhimanyu and mahāratha Śikhaṇḍī did not abandon Bhīmasena, because of the fear that was engendered from that great force.

द्रौपदी के पुत्र अभिमन्यु और महारथ शिखंडी ने उस महान शक्ति से उत्पन्न भय के कारण भीमसेन को नहीं छोड़ा।

ततः शैक्यायसीं गुर्वीं प्रगृह्य महतीं गदाम् अवधीत्तावकान्योधान्दण्डपाणिरिवान्तकः पोथयन्रथवृन्दानि वाजिवृन्दानि चाभिभूः

He grasped a heavy and great club that was made of steel and rushed against your soldiers, like Death with a staff in his hand. The lord smashed large numbers of chariots and large numbers of horses.

उसने एक भारी और बड़ी छड़ी पकड़ी जो स्टील से बनी थी और आपके सैनिकों पर इस तरह टूट पड़ा, जैसे मौत अपने हाथ में लाठी लिए हुए हो। प्रभु ने बड़ी संख्या में रथों और बड़ी संख्या में घोड़ों को तोड़ डाला।

व्यचरत्समरे भीमो युगान्ते पावको यथा विनिघ्नन्समरे सर्वान्युगान्ते कालवद्विभुः

Bhīmā wandered around in that battle, like the fire of destruction at the end of a yuga. He killed everyone in that encounter, like the lord of death at the end of a yuga.

भीम युग के अंत में विनाश की आग की तरह उस युद्ध में इधर-उधर भटकते रहे। उसने युग के अंत में मृत्यु के देवता की तरह, उस मुठभेड़ में सभी को मार डाला।

ऊरुवेगेन संकर्षन्रथजालानि पाण्डवः प्रमर्दयन्गजान्सर्वान्नड्वलानीव कुञ्जरः

Pāṇḍava crushed large numbers of chariots with the force of his thighs. He was like a crazy elephant and all of them were like reeds before an elephant.

पांडवों ने अपनी जाँघों के बल से बड़ी संख्या में रथों को कुचल डाला। वह एक पागल हाथी के समान था और वे सभी हाथी के सामने नरकट के समान थे।

मृद्नन्रथेभ्यो रथिनो गजेभ्यो गजयोधिनः सादिनश्चाश्वपृष्ठेभ्यो भूमौ चैव पदातिनः

He brought down charioteers from chariots and elephant-riders from elephants. He brought down horse-riders from the backs of horses and crushed infantry on the ground.

उसने रथों से रथियों को और हाथियों से हाथी सवारों को नीचे उतार दिया। उसने घोड़ों की पीठ से घुड़सवारों को नीचे गिरा दिया और पैदल सेना को ज़मीन पर कुचल दिया।

तत्र तत्र हतैश्चापि मनुष्यगजवाजिभिः रणाङ्गणं तदभवन्मृत्योराघातसंनिभम्

With the dead bodies of men, elephants and horses, the field of battle looked like the abode of the dead.

मनुष्यों, हाथियों और घोड़ों के शवों से युद्ध का मैदान मृतकों के निवास स्थान के समान लग रहा था।

पिनाकमिव रुद्रस्य क्रुद्धस्याभिघ्नतः पशून् यमदण्डोपमामुग्रामिन्द्राशनिसमस्वनाम् ददृशुर्भीमसेनस्य रौद्रां विशसनीं गदाम्

He was like Rudra with the Pināka, destroying animals in his anger. With the terrible and destructive club, which made a sound like Indra's vajra, Bhīmasena looked like Yāma, with a staff in his hand.

वह पिनाकधारी रुद्र के समान था, जो अपने क्रोध में जानवरों को नष्ट कर देता था। इंद्र के वज्र के समान ध्वनि करने वाली भयानक और विनाशकारी गदा के साथ भीमसेन हाथ में छड़ी लिए यम के समान लग रहे थे।

आविध्यतो गदां तस्य कौन्तेयस्य महात्मनः बभौ रूपं महाघोरं कालस्येव युगक्षये

The greatsouled Kaunteya whirled his club and assumed an extremely terrible form, like death at the time of the destruction of a yuga.

महामहिम कौन्तेय ने अपनी गदा घुमाई और युग के विनाश के समय मृत्यु के समान अत्यंत भयानक रूप धारण कर लिया।

तं तथा महतीं सेनां द्रावयन्तं पुनः पुनः दृष्ट्वा मृत्युमिवायान्तं सर्वे विमनसोऽभवन्

He repeatedly shattered that large army. He was seen to be like death himself and all of them became dispirited.

उसने बार-बार उस विशाल सेना को छिन्न-भिन्न कर दिया। उन्हें स्वयं मृत्यु के समान देखा जाने लगा और वे सभी निराश हो गये।

यतो यतः प्रेक्षते स्म गदामुद्यम्य पाण्डवः तेन तेन स्म दीर्यन्ते सर्वसैन्यानि भारत

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Wherever Pāṇḍava cast his eye, with his club upraised, all the soldiers there seemed to vanish.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! जहाँ भी पांडव अपनी गदा उठाकर दृष्टि डालते, वहाँ के सभी सैनिक गायब हो जाते।

प्रदारयन्तं सैन्यानि बलौघेनापराजितम् ग्रसमानमनीकानि व्यादितास्यमिवान्तकम्

He shattered the soldiers and was unvanquished by the army. He devoured the soldiers, like the destroyer with a gaping mouth.

उसने सैनिकों को चकनाचूर कर दिया और सेना से पराजित नहीं हुआ। उसने मुंह फाड़े विध्वंसक की तरह सैनिकों को निगल लिया।

तं तथा भीमकर्माणं प्रगृहीतमहागदम् दृष्ट्वा वृकोदरं भीष्मः सहसैव समभ्ययात्

He grasped the great club and performed terrible deeds there. On seeing Vṛkodara thus, Bhīṣma swiftly advanced towards him.

उसने विशाल गदा पकड़ ली और वहां भयंकर कर्म किये। वृकोदर को इस प्रकार देखकर भीष्म तेजी से उसकी ओर बढ़े।

महता मेघघोषेण रथेनादित्यवर्चसा छादयञ्शरवर्षेण पर्जन्य इव वृष्टिमान्

He was on a giant chariot with the radiance of the sun and it roared like the clouds. He enveloped everything with a shower of arrows, like clouds showering down rain.

वह सूर्य के समान चमकने वाले और बादलों के समान गर्जना करने वाले एक विशाल रथ पर सवार था। उसने सब कुछ बाणों की वर्षा से इस प्रकार आच्छादित कर लिया, मानो बादल वर्षा कर रहे हों।

तमायान्तं तथा दृष्ट्वा व्यात्ताननमिवान्तकम् भीष्मं भीमो महाबाहुः प्रत्युदीयादमर्षणः

On seeing Bhīṣma advance, like the destroyer with a gaping mouth, the mighty-armed and intolerant Bhīmā rushed towards him.

भीष्म को आगे बढ़ते देख, विध्वंसक की भाँति महाबाहु और असहिष्णु भीम उनकी ओर दौड़ पड़े।

तस्मिन्क्षणे सात्यकिः सत्यसंधः; शिनिप्रवीरोऽभ्यपतत्पितामहम् निघ्नन्नमित्रान्धनुषा दृढेन; स कम्पयंस्तव पुत्रस्य सेनाम्

At that instant, Sātyaki, the brave descendant of the Śini lineage, devoted to the truth, attacked the grandfather.

उसी समय, सत्य के प्रति समर्पित शिनि वंश के बहादुर वंशज सात्यकि ने पितामह पर हमला कर दिया।

तं यान्तमश्वै रजतप्रकाशैः; शरान्धमन्तं धनुषा दृढेन नाशक्नुवन्वारयितुं तदानीं; सर्वे गणा भारत ये त्वदीयाः

He began to kill the enemy with his firm bow and made the soldiers of your son tremble. He was borne on silver steeds and unleashed arrows from his firm bow. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Among all those on your side, there was no second one capable of withstanding him.

वह अपने दृढ़ धनुष से शत्रुओं का संहार करने लगा और आपके पुत्र के सैनिकों को कम्पित करने लगा। वह चाँदी के घोड़ों पर सवार था और अपने दृढ़ धनुष से बाण छोड़े हुए था। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! आपके पक्ष में जितने भी लोग थे, उनमें दूसरा कोई भी ऐसा नहीं था जो उसका सामना करने में सक्षम हो।

अविध्यदेनं निशितैः शराग्रै;रलम्बुसो राजवरार्श्यशृङ्गिः तं वै चतुर्भिः प्रतिविध्य वीरो; नप्ता शिनेरभ्यपतद्रथेन

Alambuṣā, seated on a supreme king of elephants, pierced him with sharp and terrible arrows. But Śini's brave grandson pierced him with four arrows and advanced on his chariot.

हाथियों के सर्वोच्च राजा पर बैठे अलम्बुषा ने उसे तीखे और भयानक बाणों से घायल कर दिया। लेकिन शिनि के बहादुर पोते ने उसे चार बाणों से घायल कर दिया और उसके रथ पर आगे बढ़ गया।

अन्वागतं वृष्णिवरं निशम्य; मध्ये रिपूणां परिवर्तमानम् प्रावर्तयन्तं कुरुपुंगवांश्च; पुनः पुनश्च प्रणदन्तमाजौ

On seeing the foremost of the Vṛṣṇi lineage thus advancing, circling in the midst of the enemy, repeatedly repulsing the bulls among the Kuru lineage and roaring, no one, not even the best, was capable of withstanding him.

वृष्णि वंश के अग्रज को इस प्रकार आगे बढ़ते हुए, शत्रुओं के बीच में चक्कर लगाते हुए, कुरु वंश के बैलों को बार-बार खदेड़ते हुए और दहाड़ते हुए देखकर, कोई भी, यहां तक ​​​​कि सबसे अच्छा भी, उसका सामना करने में सक्षम नहीं था।

नाशक्नुवन्वारयितुं वरिष्ठं; मध्यंदिने सूर्यमिवातपन्तम् न तत्र कश्चिन्नविषण्ण आसी;दृते राजन्सोमदत्तस्य पुत्रात्

He tormented like the midday sun. O king! With the exception of Somadatta's son, there was no one there who was not cheerless.

वह दोपहर के सूरज की भाँति सताता था। हे राजा! सोमदत्त के पुत्र को छोड़कर, वहाँ कोई भी ऐसा नहीं था जो प्रसन्न न हो।

स ह्याददानो धनुरुग्रवेगं; भूरिश्रवा भारत सौमदत्तिः दृष्ट्वा रथान्स्वान्व्यपनीयमाना;न्प्रत्युद्ययौ सात्यकिं योद्धुमिच्छन्

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! On seeing that all the charioteers on his side had been routed, Bhurishrava, Somadatta's son, grasped a terrible and powerful bow and advanced, desiring to fight with Sātyaki.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! यह देखकर कि उसके पक्ष के सभी रथ मारे गए, सोमदत्त के पुत्र भूरिश्रवा ने एक भयानक और शक्तिशाली धनुष उठाया और सात्यकि से युद्ध करने की इच्छा से आगे बढ़ा।
