संजय उवाच बृहतीं धार्तराष्ट्राणां दृष्ट्वा सेनां समुद्यताम् विषादमगमद्राजा कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः

Sañjaya said: "On seeing the large army of Dhṛtarāṣṭra's sons, ready to fight, Kuntī's son, King Yudhiṣṭhira, was overcome by grief.

संजय ने कहा: "धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्रों की विशाल सेना को युद्ध के लिए तैयार देखकर, कुंती के पुत्र राजा युधिष्ठिर दुःख से उबर गए।

व्यूहं भीष्मेण चाभेद्यं कल्पितं प्रेक्ष्य पाण्डवः अभेद्यमिव संप्रेक्ष्य विषण्णोऽर्जुनमब्रवीत्

Pāṇḍava saw the impenetrable vyūha that Bhīṣma had crafted. Having seen that it was impenetrable, he was distressed and spoke to Arjuna.

पांडव ने उस अभेद्य व्यूह को देखा जिसे भीष्म ने रचा था। यह देखकर कि यह अभेद्य है, वह व्यथित हो गया और अर्जुन से बोला।

धनंजय कथं शक्यमस्माभिर्योद्धुमाहवे धार्तराष्ट्रैर्महाबाहो येषां योद्धा पितामहः

"O Dhanañjayā! O mighty-armed one! When the grandfather fights on the side of the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, how will we be able to fight with them in this battle?

"हे धनंजय! हे महाबाहु! जब पितामह धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्रों के पक्ष में लड़ेंगे, तो हम इस युद्ध में उनसे कैसे लड़ पाएंगे?

अक्षोभ्योऽयमभेद्यश्च भीष्मेणामित्रकर्शिना कल्पितः शास्त्रदृष्टेन विधिना भूरितेजसा

Bhīṣma, the destroyer of enemies, whose energy is manifold, has crafted this immovable and impenetrable formation, in accordance with the decrees of the sacred texts.

शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले भीष्म, जिनकी ऊर्जा कई गुना है, ने पवित्र ग्रंथों के आदेशों के अनुसार, इस अचल और अभेद्य संरचना को तैयार किया है।

ते वयं संशयं प्राप्ताः ससैन्याः शत्रुकर्शन कथमस्मान्महाव्यूहादुद्यानं नो भविष्यति

O destroyer of enemies! Together with our soldiers, we now have doubts. How can we be successful against this great vyūha?"

हे शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले! हमारे सैनिकों के साथ-साथ अब हमें भी संदेह है।' हम इस महान व्यूह के विरुद्ध कैसे सफल हो सकते हैं?"

अथार्जुनोऽब्रवीत्पार्थं युधिष्ठिरममित्रहा विषण्णमभिसंप्रेक्ष्य तव राजन्ननीकिनीम्

O king! Thus addressed by Pārtha Yudhiṣṭhira, the destroyer of enemies, who was overcome by grief at the sight of your army, Arjuna replied,

हे राजा! शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले पार्थ युधिष्ठिर द्वारा इस प्रकार संबोधित किये जाने पर, जो आपकी सेना को देखकर दुःख से अभिभूत हो गये थे, अर्जुन ने उत्तर दिया,

प्रज्ञयाभ्यधिकाञ्शूरान्गुणयुक्तान्बहूनपि जयन्त्यल्पतरा येन तन्निबोध विशां पते

O lord of the earth! Listen. Those who are few can vanquish many brave ones who are superior in wisdom and possess qualities.

हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! सुनना। जो थोड़े से लोग हैं वे अनेक शूरवीरों को, जो बुद्धि में श्रेष्ठ हैं और गुणों से युक्त हैं, परास्त कर सकते हैं।

तत्तु ते कारणं राजन्प्रवक्ष्याम्यनसूयवे नारदस्तमृषिर्वेद भीष्मद्रोणौ च पाण्डव

O king! You do not suffer from malice and I will tell you the means. O Pāṇḍava! The riṣi Nārada, and Bhīṣma and Droṇa, know this.

हे राजा! तुम द्वेष से ग्रस्त न हो, इसका उपाय मैं तुम्हें बताता हूँ। हे पाण्डव! ऋषि नारद, भीष्म और द्रोण, यह जानते हैं।

एतमेवार्थमाश्रित्य युद्धे देवासुरेऽब्रवीत् पितामहः किल पुरा महेन्द्रादीन्दिवौकसः

On an earlier occasion, at the time of the battle between the gods and the āsura-s, the grandfather himself said this to the great Indra and the denizens of heaven -

एक पूर्व अवसर पर, देवताओं और असुरों के बीच युद्ध के समय, पितामह ने स्वयं महान इंद्र और स्वर्ग के निवासियों से यह कहा था -

न तथा बलवीर्याभ्यां विजयन्ते जिगीषवः यथा सत्यानृशंस्याभ्यां धर्मेणैवोद्यमेन च

"Those who desire victory, do not triumph through strength and valour, but through truth, non-violence, devotion to dharma and endeavour.

"जो लोग विजय की इच्छा रखते हैं, वे शक्ति और वीरता से नहीं, बल्कि सत्य, अहिंसा, धर्म के प्रति समर्पण और प्रयास से विजय प्राप्त करते हैं।

त्यक्त्वाधर्मं च लोभं च मोहं चोद्यममास्थिताः युध्यध्वमनहंकारा यतो धर्मस्ततो जयः

One must give up adharma, avarice and delusion and resort to endeavour. One must fight without pride. Where there is dharma, there will be victory."

मनुष्य को अधर्म, लोभ और मोह को त्यागकर पुरुषार्थ का आश्रय लेना चाहिए। बिना अहंकार के लड़ना चाहिए. जहाँ धर्म है, वहाँ विजय होगी।”

एवं राजन्विजानीहि ध्रुवोऽस्माकं रणे जयः यथा मे नारदः प्राह यतः कृष्णस्ततो जयः

O king! Know that it is for this reason that our victory in this battle is certain. Nārada has said that where there is Kṛṣṇā, victory is there.

हे राजा! जान लें कि इसी कारण इस युद्ध में हमारी जीत निश्चित है। नारद ने कहा है कि जहाँ कृष्ण हैं, वहाँ विजय है।

गुणभूतो जयः कृष्णे पृष्ठतोऽन्वेति माधवम् अन्यथा विजयश्चास्य संनतिश्चापरो गुणः

Victory is Kṛṣṇā's quality, it follows Mādhava. Victory is one of his qualities and humility is another.

विजय कृष्ण का गुण है, यह माधव का अनुसरण करता है। विजय उनका एक गुण है और विनम्रता दूसरा।

अनन्ततेजा गोविन्दः शत्रुपूगेषु निर्व्यथः पुरुषः सनातनतमो यतः कृष्णस्ततो जयः

Govinda is infinite in his energy. He is without pain even amidst a multitude of enemies. He is the eternal being. Where there is Kṛṣṇā, victory is there.

गोविंदा अपनी ऊर्जा में अनंत हैं। शत्रुओं की भीड़ के बीच भी उसे कोई पीड़ा नहीं होती। वह शाश्वत अस्तित्व है. जहाँ कृष्ण हैं, वहाँ विजय है।

पुरा ह्येष हरिर्भूत्वा वैकुण्ठोऽकुण्ठसायकः सुरासुरानवस्फूर्जन्नब्रवीत्के जयन्त्विति

In earlier times, Harī manifested himself. He is Vaikuṇṭha. He has no weakness before weapons. In a loud tone, he spoke to the gods and the āsura-s, "Who among you wishes for victory?"

पहले के समय में, हरि स्वयं प्रकट हुए थे। वह वैकुण्ठ है । हथियारों के सामने उनकी कोई कमजोरी नहीं है. उन्होंने ऊँचे स्वर में देवताओं और असुरों से कहा, "आपमें से कौन विजय की इच्छा रखता है?"

अनु कृष्णं जयेमेति यैरुक्तं तत्र तैर्जितम् तत्प्रसादाद्धि त्रैलोक्यं प्राप्तं शक्रादिभिः सुरैः

The vanquished ones replied, "We will follow Kṛṣṇā and thereby obtain victory." Through his favours, Śākra and the other gods obtained the three worlds.

पराजितों ने उत्तर दिया, "हम कृष्ण का अनुसरण करेंगे और इस प्रकार विजय प्राप्त करेंगे।" उनकी कृपा से शक्र और अन्य देवताओं को तीनों लोक प्राप्त हुए।

तस्य ते न व्यथां कांचिदिह पश्यामि भारत यस्य ते जयमाशास्ते विश्वभुक्त्रिदशेश्वरः

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Therefore, I do not see any reason for despondency. You have the lord of the universe and the lord of the thirty gods and because of this, you are assured of victory.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! इसलिए मुझे निराशा का कोई कारण नजर नहीं आता. आपके पास ब्रह्मांड का स्वामी और तीस देवताओं का स्वामी है और इस वजह से, आपकी जीत निश्चित है।
