अर्जुन उवाच किमागमनकृत्यं ते कौरव्यकुलनन्दिनि मणिपूरपतेर्मातुस्तथैव च रणाजिरे

Arjuna said: What is the purpose of your coming, O delight of the Kuru family? And of the mother of the lord of Manipura, and of the battlefield.

अर्जुन ने कहा: हे कुरु परिवार के आनंदित, आपके आने का उद्देश्य क्या है? और मणिपुर के स्वामी की माता की, और युद्धक्षेत्र की।

कच्चित्कुशलकामासि राज्ञोऽस्य भुजगात्मजे मम वा चञ्चलापाङ्गे कच्चित्त्वं शुभमिच्छसि

O daughter of the serpent king, are you well disposed towards this king? O one with roving eyes, do you wish for good fortune towards me?

हे सर्प राजा की पुत्री, क्या तुम इस राजा के प्रति अच्छे स्वभाव वाली हो? हे घूमती आँखों वाले, क्या तुम मेरे लिए सौभाग्य की कामना करते हो?

कच्चित्ते पृथुलश्रोणि नाप्रियं शुभदर्शने अकार्षमहमज्ञानादयं वा बभ्रुवाहनः

O you of wide hips, O you of auspicious appearance, have I not done anything unpleasant to you, either through ignorance or through this horse-charioteer?

हे चौड़े कूल्हों वाले, हे शुभ रूप वाले, क्या मैंने अज्ञानतावश या इस घोड़े-सारथी के माध्यम से आपके साथ कुछ भी अप्रिय नहीं किया है?

कच्चिच्च राजपुत्री ते सपत्नी चैत्रवाहिनी चित्राङ्गदा वरारोहा नापराध्यति किंचन

Are the queen and your co-wife, Citravati, the beautiful Citrāṅgadā, doing well? Are they not doing anything wrong?

क्या रानी और आपकी सहपत्नी, चित्रवती, सुन्दर चित्रांगदा, कुशल से हैं? क्या वे कुछ गलत नहीं कर रहे हैं?

तमुवाचोरगपतेर्दुहिता प्रहसन्त्यथ न मे त्वमपराद्धोऽसि न नृपो बभ्रुवाहनः न जनित्री तथास्येयं मम या प्रेष्यवत्स्थिता

Then the daughter of the lord of serpents said to him, smiling: "I am not angry with you, nor with King Babhruvahana, nor with his mother, who stands before me like a servant.

तब सर्पों के स्वामी की पुत्री ने मुस्कुराते हुए उससे कहा: "मैं न तो तुमसे नाराज हूं, न ही राजा बभ्रुवाहन से, न ही उसकी मां से, जो एक नौकर की तरह मेरे सामने खड़ी है।

श्रूयतां यद्यथा चेदं मया सर्वं विचेष्टितम् न मे कोपस्त्वया कार्यः शिरसा त्वां प्रसादये

Listen to how and why I have done all this. Do not be angry with me. I am bowing my head to you.

सुनो मैंने यह सब कैसे और क्यों किया है। मुझसे नाराज न होइए। मैं आपको सिर झुकाकर प्रणाम कर रहा हूं.

त्वत्प्रीत्यर्थं हि कौरव्य कृतमेतन्मयानघ यत्तच्छृणु महाबाहो निखिलेन धनंजय

For your pleasure, O sinless one, O descendant of the Kuru lineage, this has been done by me. Listen to it in its entirety, O mighty-armed Dhananjaya.

हे पापरहित, हे कुरु वंश के वंशज, आपकी प्रसन्नता के लिए यह मेरे द्वारा किया गया है। हे महाबाहु धनंजय, इसे पूरा सुनो।

महाभारतयुद्धे यत्त्वया शांतनवो नृपः अधर्मेण हतः पार्थ तस्यैषा निष्कृतिः कृता

O Partha, this is the atonement for the sin of killing King Shantanu's son in the battle of the Mahabharata war by means of unrighteousness.

हे पार्थ, यह महाभारत युद्ध में राजा शांतनु के पुत्र की अधर्म के द्वारा हत्या करने के पाप का प्रायश्चित है।

न हि भीष्मस्त्वया वीर युध्यमानो निपातितः शिखण्डिना तु संसक्तस्तमाश्रित्य हतस्त्वया

You did not kill the heroic Bhishma while he was fighting. But when he was entangled with Shikhandi, you killed him by taking refuge in him.

तुमने वीर भीष्म को युद्ध करते समय नहीं मारा। परंतु जब वह शिखंडी से उलझ गया तो तुमने उसकी शरण में आकर उसका वध कर दिया।

तस्य शान्तिमकृत्वा तु त्यजेस्त्वं यदि जीवितम् कर्मणा तेन पापेन पतेथा निरये ध्रुवम्

If you abandon your life without bringing about his peace, By that sinful deed, you will certainly fall into hell.

यदि तू उसकी शांति कराये बिना अपने प्राण त्याग देगा तो उस पाप कर्म से तू निश्चय ही नरक में गिरेगा।

एषा तु विहिता शान्तिः पुत्राद्यां प्राप्तवानसि वसुभिर्वसुधापाल गङ्गया च महामते

This peace has been prescribed, you have attained a son and so on. O protector of the earth, with wealth and with the great Ganga, O wise one,

यह शांति बताई गई है, आपको पुत्र की प्राप्ति हुई है इत्यादि। हे पृथ्वी के रक्षक, धन और महान गंगा के रक्षक, हे बुद्धिमान!

पुरा हि श्रुतमेतद्वै वसुभिः कथितं मया गङ्गायास्तीरमागम्य हते शांतनवे नृपे

Formerly this was heard by me when it was told by the Vasus Having come to the bank of the Ganges, when the king Shantanu was killed.

पूर्वकाल में यह बात मैंने तब सुनी थी, जब वसुओं ने गंगा के तट पर आकर यह कहा था, जब राजा शान्तनु की मृत्यु हो गयी थी।

आप्लुत्य देवा वसवः समेत्य च महानदीम् इदमूचुर्वचो घोरं भागीरथ्या मते तदा

Having bathed and assembled at the great river, the Vasus, the gods, spoke these terrible words, in accordance with Bhagirathi's wishes.

भागीरथी की इच्छा के अनुसार, स्नान करके और महान नदी पर एकत्रित होकर, वसुओं, देवताओं ने, ये भयानक शब्द कहे।

एष शांतनवो भीष्मो निहतः सव्यसाचिना अयुध्यमानः संग्रामे संसक्तोऽन्येन भामिनि

This Shāntanava Bhīṣma has been killed by the left-handed one. Not fighting in the battle, he was entangled with another, O beautiful lady.

यह शान्तनव भीष्म वामहस्त द्वारा मारा गया है। हे सुन्दरी, वह युद्ध में न लड़कर किसी और से उलझ गया था।

तदनेनाभिषङ्गेण वयमप्यर्जुनं शुभे शापेन योजयामेति तथास्त्विति च साब्रवीत्

"By this curse we will also join Arjuna in the auspicious (marriage) ceremony." "She said, ""So be it!""

"इस श्राप के द्वारा हम भी अर्जुन के साथ शुभ (विवाह) समारोह में शामिल होंगे।" "उसने कहा, ""ऐसा ही होगा!""

तदहं पितुरावेद्य भृशं प्रव्यथितेन्द्रिया अभवं स च तच्छ्रुत्वा विषादमगमत्परम्

Then, with my senses greatly distressed, I told my father. He, hearing it, was overcome with grief.

तब, बहुत व्यथित होकर, मैंने अपने पिता को बताया। यह सुनकर वह शोक से विह्वल हो गया।

पिता तु मे वसून्गत्वा त्वदर्थं समयाचत पुनः पुनः प्रसाद्यैनांस्त एनमिदमब्रुवन्

But my father, having gone to the Vasus, asked them for you, and having repeatedly propitiated them, they said this to him:

परन्तु मेरे पिता ने वसुओं के पास जाकर उनसे तुम्हारे लिये प्रार्थना की, और बारम्बार उन्हें प्रसन्न करके उन्होंने उनसे यह कहा:

पुनस्तस्य महाभाग मणिपूरेश्वरो युवा स एनं रणमध्यस्थं शरैः पातयिता भुवि

Again, O greatly fortunate one, the young lord of Manipura shot him with arrows while he was in the midst of battle and brought him down to the ground.

फिर, हे अत्यंत भाग्यशाली व्यक्ति, मणिपुर के युवा स्वामी ने युद्ध के बीच में ही उस पर तीरों से वार किया और उसे जमीन पर गिरा दिया।

एवं कृते स नागेन्द्र मुक्तशापो भविष्यति गच्छेति वसुभिश्चोक्तो मम चेदं शशंस सः

If this is done, the lord of the nagas will be freed from the curse. And the Vasus said, "Go!" and he reported this to me.

यदि ऐसा किया जाता है, तो नागाओं के स्वामी श्राप से मुक्त हो जायेंगे। और वसुओं ने कहा, "जाओ!" और उसने मुझे इसकी सूचना दी।

तच्छ्रुत्वा त्वं मया तस्माच्छापादसि विमोक्षितः न हि त्वां देवराजोऽपि समरेषु पराजयेत्

Hearing that, I have thus freed you from the curse. Even the king of the gods would not defeat you in battle.

यह सुनकर मैंने तुम्हें इस प्रकार शाप से मुक्त कर दिया है। यहाँ तक कि देवताओं के राजा भी तुम्हें युद्ध में नहीं हरा सकेंगे।

आत्मा पुत्रः स्मृतस्तस्मात्तेनेहासि पराजितः नात्र दोषो मम मतः कथं वा मन्यसे विभो

The Self is said to be the son. Therefore, you have been defeated by him here. I do not think there is any fault here. Or how do you think, O Lord?

आत्मा को पुत्र कहा गया है। अत: तुम यहाँ उससे पराजित हो गये हो। मुझे नहीं लगता कि यहां कोई गलती है. या आप कैसे सोचते हैं, हे भगवान?

इत्येवमुक्तो विजयः प्रसन्नात्माब्रवीदिदम् सर्वं मे सुप्रियं देवि यदेतत्कृतवत्यसि

Thus addressed, Vijaya, with a delighted mind, said this: "All this is very pleasing to me, O Goddess, that you have done this.

इस प्रकार संबोधित करते हुए, विजया ने प्रसन्न मन से कहा, "यह सब मुझे बहुत प्रसन्न कर रहा है, हे देवी, कि आपने यह किया है।

इत्युक्त्वाथाब्रवीत्पुत्रं मणिपूरेश्वरं जयः चित्राङ्गदायाः शृण्वन्त्याः कौरव्यदुहितुस्तथा

Having said this, Jayā then spoke to the son of Maṇipūrīśvara, in the presence of Citrāṅgadā, the daughter of the Kauravas.

इतना कहने के बाद जया ने कौरवों की पुत्री चित्रांगदा की उपस्थिति में मणिपुरीश्वर के पुत्र से बात की।

युधिष्ठिरस्याश्वमेधः परां चैत्रीं भविष्यति तत्रागच्छेः सहामात्यो मातृभ्यां सहितो नृप

The horse sacrifice of Yudhisthira will take place on the full moon day of Chaitra. O king, you should go there with your ministers and your two mothers.

युधिष्ठिर का अश्व यज्ञ चैत्र पूर्णिमा के दिन होगा। हे राजन, आपको अपने मंत्रियों और अपनी दोनों माताओं के साथ वहां जाना चाहिए।

इत्येवमुक्तः पार्थेन स राजा बभ्रुवाहनः उवाच पितरं धीमानिदमस्राविलेक्षणः

Thus addressed by Partha, the king Babhruvahana, with unclouded eyes, spoke to his father, the wise one,

पार्थ के इस प्रकार कहने पर राजा बभ्रुवाहन ने धुंधली आँखों से अपने बुद्धिमान पिता से कहा,

उपयास्यामि धर्मज्ञ भवतः शासनादहम् अश्वमेधे महायज्ञे द्विजातिपरिवेषकः

"I shall go to you, O knower of Dharma, by your command, to be the attendant of the twice-born at the great sacrifice of the horse-sacrifice."

"हे धर्म के ज्ञाता, मैं आपकी आज्ञा से, अश्व-यज्ञ के महान यज्ञ में द्विजों का परिचारक बनने के लिए आपके पास जाऊंगा।"

मम त्वनुग्रहार्थाय प्रविशस्व पुरं स्वकम् भार्याभ्यां सह शत्रुघ्न मा भूत्तेऽत्र विचारणा

For my sake, enter your own city. O Shatrughna, with your wives, do not hesitate.

मेरी खातिर, अपने शहर में प्रवेश करो. हे शत्रुघ्न, अपनी पत्नियों सहित, संकोच न करें।

उषित्वेह विशल्यस्त्वं सुखं स्वे वेश्मनि प्रभो पुनरश्वानुगमनं कर्तासि जयतां वर

Having stayed here, O Lord, free from pain, happily in your own house, you will again go after the horse, O best of the victorious.

यहाँ रहकर, हे भगवान, दर्द से मुक्त होकर, खुशी से अपने घर में, आप फिर से घोड़े के पीछे चलेंगे, हे विजयी श्रेष्ठ।

इत्युक्तः स तु पुत्रेण तदा वानरकेतनः स्मयन्प्रोवाच कौन्तेयस्तदा चित्राङ्गदासुतम्

Thus addressed by his son, the monkey-bannered one, smiling, then spoke to Citrāṅgada's son, the son of Kuntī.

अपने पुत्र द्वारा इस प्रकार सम्बोधित किये जाने पर वानर-धारी ने मुस्कुराते हुए चित्रांगद के पुत्र, कुन्ती के पुत्र से कहा।

विदितं ते महाबाहो यथा दीक्षां चराम्यहम् न स तावत्प्रवेक्ष्यामि पुरं ते पृथुलोचन

O mighty-armed one, you know how I am observing the vow. O large-eyed one, I will not enter your city until then.

हे महाबाहो, आप जानते हैं कि मैं कैसे व्रत का पालन कर रहा हूं। हे बड़ी आंखों वाले, मैं तब तक तेरे नगर में प्रवेश नहीं करूंगा।

यथाकामं प्रयात्येष यज्ञियश्च तुरंगमः स्वस्ति तेऽस्तु गमिष्यामि न स्थानं विद्यते मम

This horse, fit for sacrifice, goes wherever he wishes. May you be well. I shall go. There is no place for me.

बलि के योग्य यह घोड़ा जहाँ चाहे वहाँ चला जाता है। आप स्वस्थ रहें. मै जाउंगा। मेरे लिए कोई जगह नहीं है.

स तत्र विधिवत्तेन पूजितः पाकशासनिः भार्याभ्यामभ्यनुज्ञातः प्रायाद्भरतसत्तमः

The son of Pākaśāsana was duly worshipped there by him and, with the permission of his wives, the best of Bharatas departed.

पाकासन के पुत्र की उन्होंने वहां विधिवत पूजा की और उनकी पत्नियों की अनुमति से भरतश्रेष्ठ वहां से चले गए।
