जनमेजय उवाच विजिते पाण्डवेयैस्तु प्रशान्ते च द्विजोत्तम राष्ट्रे किं चक्रतुर्वीरौ वासुदेवधनंजयौ

जनमेजय ने कहा, हे ब्राह्मणश्रेष्ठ, जब पांडव हार गए और राज्य शांत हो गया, तो वीर वासुदेव और धनंजय ने क्या किया?

वैशंपायन उवाच विजिते पाण्डवेयैस्तु प्रशान्ते च विशां पते राष्ट्रे बभूवतुर्हृष्टौ वासुदेवधनंजयौ

Vaishampayana said: When the Pandavas had conquered and the kingdom of the lord of the earth had been pacified, Vasudeva and Dhananjaya were delighted.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: जब पांडवों ने विजय प्राप्त कर ली और पृथ्वी के स्वामी का राज्य शांत हो गया, तो वासुदेव और धनंजय प्रसन्न हुए।

विजह्राते मुदा युक्तौ दिवि देवेश्वराविव तौ वनेषु विचित्रेषु पर्वतानां च सानुषु

They enjoyed themselves with great joy, like the lords of the gods in heaven. In the various forests and on the slopes of the mountains,

उन्होंने स्वर्ग के देवताओं के समान बड़े आनन्द से आनन्द उठाया। विभिन्न जंगलों में और पहाड़ों की ढलानों पर,

शैलेषु रमणीयेषु पल्वलेषु नदीषु च चङ्क्रम्यमाणौ संहृष्टावश्विनाविव नन्दने

In the delightful mountains, in the marshes, in the rivers, Walking joyfully like the Ashvins in Nandana,

रमणीय पहाड़ों में, दलदलों में, नदियों में, नंदना में अश्विन की तरह खुशी से चलते हुए,

इन्द्रप्रस्थे महात्मानौ रेमाते कृष्णपाण्डवौ प्रविश्य तां सभां रम्यां विजह्राते च भारत

महात्मा कृष्ण और पांडव इंद्रप्रस्थ में विचरण करते थे। उस सुन्दर सभा भवन में प्रवेश करके, हे भरत वंश के वंशज, उन्होंने आनंद उठाया।

तत्र युद्धकथाश्चित्राः परिक्लेशांश्च पार्थिव कथायोगे कथायोगे कथयामासतुस्तदा

महान तपस्वी, जो उचित कार्यविधि जानता था, ने उसे उचित तरीके से सांत्वना दी। अपने ऊपर से बोझ उतारकर वह सात्वत की भाँति विश्राम करने लगा।

ततः कथान्ते गोविन्दो गुडाकेशमुवाच ह सान्त्वयञ्श्लक्ष्णया वाचा हेतुयुक्तमिदं वचः

हे शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले, आपकी भुजाओं के बल पर ही पाण्डुपुत्र ने सारी पृथ्वी पर विजय प्राप्त कर ली है।

असपत्नां महीं भुङ्क्ते धर्मराजो युधिष्ठिरः भीमसेनप्रभावेन यमयोश्च नरोत्तम

Yudhiṣṭhira, the king of righteousness, enjoys the earth free from enemies, by the power of Bhimasena and the two Yama-like best of men.

धर्मात्मा राजा युधिष्ठिर भीमसेन तथा दो यम-तुल्य श्रेष्ठ पुरुषों के बल से शत्रुओं से मुक्त होकर पृथ्वी का उपभोग करते हैं।

धर्मेण राज्ञा धर्मज्ञ प्राप्तं राज्यमकण्टकम् धर्मेण निहतः संख्ये स च राजा सुयोधनः

The king Dharma, knowing the Dharma, obtained the kingdom free from thorns. And in battle, the king Suyodhana was killed by Dharma.

राजा धर्म ने धर्म को जानकर कांटों से मुक्त राज्य प्राप्त किया। और युद्ध में राजा सुयोधन धर्म के हाथों मारा गया।

अधर्मरुचयो लुब्धाः सदा चाप्रियवादिनः धार्तराष्ट्रा दुरात्मानः सानुबन्धा निपातिताः

Those who were fond of unrighteousness, greedy, and always speaking unpleasant words, the sons of Dhritarashtra, of evil souls, along with their followers, have been brought down.

जो अधर्म में रुचि रखने वाले, लोभी तथा सदैव अप्रिय वचन बोलने वाले थे, धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्र, दुष्टात्मा, उनके अनुयायियों सहित उनका पतन हो गया है।

प्रशान्तामखिलां पार्थ पृथिवीं पृथिवीपतिः भुङ्क्ते धर्मसुतो राजा त्वया गुप्तः कुरूद्वह

The king, the son of Dharma, enjoys the entire earth, which is peaceful, O son of Pritha, protected by you, O upholder of the Kurus.

हे पृथा के पुत्र, आपके द्वारा संरक्षित, हे कौरवों के पालनकर्ता, धर्म का पुत्र राजा पूरी शांतिपूर्ण पृथ्वी का आनंद लेता है।

रमे चाहं त्वया सार्धमरण्येष्वपि पाण्डव किमु यत्र जनोऽयं वै पृथा चामित्रकर्शन

O son of Pandu, I shall enjoy with you even in the forest. What to say of a place where this man and Pritha are present, O tormentor of enemies.

हे पांडु पुत्र, मैं तुम्हारे साथ वन में भी आनंद उठाऊंगा। उस स्थान के बारे में क्या कहा जाए जहां यह आदमी और पृथा मौजूद हैं, हे शत्रुओं को पीड़ा देने वाले!

यत्र धर्मसुतो राजा यत्र भीमो महाबलः यत्र माद्रवतीपुत्रौ रतिस्तत्र परा मम

Where the son of Dharma is the king, where the immensely strong Bhima is, where the sons of Madri are, there is my supreme delight.

जहां धर्मपुत्र राजा हैं, जहां अत्यंत बलशाली भीम हैं, जहां माद्री के पुत्र हैं, वहां मुझे परम आनंद मिलता है।

तथैव स्वर्गकल्पेषु सभोद्देशेषु भारत रमणीयेषु पुण्येषु सहितस्य त्वयानघ

In the same way, in the heavenly regions, in the assembly halls, in the beautiful and meritorious places, O sinless one, together with you.

इसी प्रकार, हे निष्पाप, स्वर्ग लोक में, सभा भवन में, सुंदर और पुण्य स्थानों में, तुम्हारे साथ।

कालो महांस्त्वतीतो मे शूरपुत्रमपश्यतः बलदेवं च कौरव्य तथान्यान्वृष्णिपुंगवान्

The great time has passed while I was not seeing the son of Shura, and Balarāma, O descendant of Kuru, and also other bulls among the Vrishnis.

बहुत समय बीत गया जब मैं शूर के पुत्र, बलराम, हे कुरु के वंशज, और वृष्णियों के बीच अन्य बैलों को नहीं देख रहा था।

सोऽहं गन्तुमभीप्सामि पुरीं द्वारवतीं प्रति रोचतां गमनं मह्यं तवापि पुरुषर्षभ

I wish to go to the city of Dvaravati. May it be agreeable to you, O bull among men, that I go.

मेरी इच्छा द्वारवती नगरी जाने की है. हे मनुष्यों में से एक बैल, यह तुझे मंजूर हो कि मैं जाऊं।

उक्तो बहुविधं राजा तत्र तत्र युधिष्ठिरः स ह भीष्मेण यद्युक्तमस्माभिः शोककारिते

King Yudhishthira has been described in many ways in various places. If we are to be sorrowful, then let us be so with Bhishma.

राजा युधिष्ठिर का अनेक स्थानों पर अनेक प्रकार से वर्णन किया गया है। यदि हमें दुःखी होना ही है तो हमें भीष्म के साथ ऐसा ही होना चाहिए।

शिष्टो युधिष्ठिरोऽस्माभिः शास्ता सन्नपि पाण्डवः तेन तच्च वचः सम्यग्गृहीतं सुमहात्मना

The remaining one, Yudhishthira, is our teacher, though he is a Pandava. That word of his was properly received by the very noble one.

शेष बचे युधिष्ठिर पांडव होते हुए भी हमारे गुरु हैं। उनके उस वचन को उस महान व्यक्ति ने उचित रूप से ग्रहण किया।

धर्मपुत्रे हि धर्मज्ञे कृतज्ञे सत्यवादिनि सत्यं धर्मो मतिश्चाग्र्या स्थितिश्च सततं स्थिरा

For Dharmaputra, who is wise in Dharma, grateful, and truthful, Truth, Dharma, and wisdom are foremost, and his steadfastness is always firm.

धर्मपुत्र के लिए, जो धर्म में बुद्धिमान, कृतज्ञ और सच्चा है, सत्य, धर्म और ज्ञान सर्वोपरि हैं, और उसकी दृढ़ता हमेशा दृढ़ रहती है।

तद्गत्वा तं महात्मानं यदि ते रोचतेऽर्जुन अस्मद्गमनसंयुक्तं वचो ब्रूहि जनाधिपम्

Go to him, O Arjuna, if it pleases you, and speak to the lord of men the words which we have come to say.

हे अर्जुन, यदि तुम्हें अच्छा लगे तो उसके पास जाओ और मनुष्यों के प्रभु से वे शब्द कहो जो हम कहने आए हैं।

न हि तस्याप्रियं कुर्यां प्राणत्यागेऽप्युपस्थिते कुतो गन्तुं महाबाहो पुरीं द्वारवतीं प्रति

I would not do anything displeasing to him, even at the cost of my life. How can I go to the city of Dvaravati, O mighty-armed one?

मैं अपने जीवन की कीमत पर भी, उसे अप्रसन्न करने वाला कोई कार्य नहीं करूँगा। हे महाबाहो, मैं द्वारावती नगरी में कैसे जा सकता हूँ?

सर्वं त्विदमहं पार्थ त्वत्प्रीतिहितकाम्यया ब्रवीमि सत्यं कौरव्य न मिथ्यैतत्कथंचन

But all this I am telling you, O Partha, out of love for you and for your good. O Kouravya, I am telling the truth, not otherwise.

लेकिन हे पार्थ, मैं यह सब तुमसे प्रेम के कारण और तुम्हारी भलाई के लिए कह रहा हूं। हे कौरव्य, मैं सत्य कह रहा हूं, अन्यथा नहीं।

प्रयोजनं च निर्वृत्तमिह वासे ममार्जुन धार्तराष्ट्रो हतो राजा सबलः सपदानुगः

And the purpose for which I came here, O Arjuna, has been accomplished. The king Dhritarashtra, with his army and followers, has been slain.

और हे अर्जुन, जिस उद्देश्य से मैं यहां आया था, वह पूरा हो गया है। राजा धृतराष्ट्र अपनी सेना और अनुयायियों सहित मारे गये।

पृथिवी च वशे तात धर्मपुत्रस्य धीमतः स्थिता समुद्रवसना सशैलवनकानना चिता रत्नैर्बहुविधैः कुरुराजस्य पाण्डव

The earth, O son, was under the control of the wise son of Dharma, Dressed in the ocean, with mountains, forests and groves. The Kuru king, O Pandava,

हे पुत्र, पृथ्वी धर्म के बुद्धिमान पुत्र के नियंत्रण में थी, जो पर्वतों, वनों और उपवनों से युक्त, समुद्र से सजी हुई थी। कुरु राजा, हे पांडव,

धर्मेण राजा धर्मज्ञः पातु सर्वां वसुंधराम् उपास्यमानो बहुभिः सिद्धैश्चापि महात्मभिः स्तूयमानश्च सततं बन्दिभिर्भरतर्षभ

May the king, who knows Dharma, protect the entire earth by means of Dharma, Being worshipped by many great Siddhas, And being always praised by bards, O bull among Bharatas

धर्म को जानने वाला राजा, धर्म के माध्यम से संपूर्ण पृथ्वी की रक्षा कर सकता है, कई महान सिद्धों द्वारा पूजा की जा सकती है, और हे भरतों में से एक बैल, जिसकी हमेशा साधुओं द्वारा प्रशंसा की जाती है।

तन्मया सह गत्वाद्य राजानं कुरुवर्धनम् आपृच्छ कुरुशार्दूल गमनं द्वारकां प्रति

इदं शरीरं वसु यच्च मे गृहे; निवेदितं पार्थ सदा युधिष्ठिरे प्रियश्च मान्यश्च हि मे युधिष्ठिरः; सदा कुरूणामधिपो महामतिः

This body and the wealth that I have in my house, O Partha, I offer to Yudhishthira always. Yudhishthira is dear and honoured to me, the

हे पार्थ, यह शरीर और मेरे घर में जो धन है, मैं सदैव युधिष्ठिर को अर्पण करता हूँ। युधिष्ठिर मेरे लिए प्रिय और आदरणीय हैं

प्रयोजनं चापि निवासकारणे; न विद्यते मे त्वदृते महाभुज स्थिता हि पृथ्वी तव पार्थ शासने; गुरोः सुवृत्तस्य युधिष्ठिरस्य ह

And I have no purpose in staying here, O mighty-armed one, except for you. For the earth is established in your rule, O Partha, in the good conduct of your pre

और हे महाबाहो, तुम्हारे अतिरिक्त मेरे यहां रहने का कोई प्रयोजन नहीं है। हे पार्थ, पृथ्वी तुम्हारे शासन में, तुम्हारे पूर्व के अच्छे आचरण में स्थापित है

इतीदमुक्तं स तदा महात्मना; जनार्दनेनामितविक्रमोऽर्जुनः तथेति कृच्छ्रादिव वाचमीरय;ज्जनार्दनं संप्रतिपूज्य पार्थिव

Thus was it spoken by the great-souled Janardana to Arjuna of immeasurable prowess. And the king, having worshipped Janardana, uttered with difficulty the words "So be it".

इस प्रकार यह बात महान आत्मा जनार्दन ने अतुलनीय पराक्रम वाले अर्जुन से कही थी। और राजा ने जनार्दन की पूजा करके कठिनाई से "ऐसा ही हो" शब्द बोले।
