संजय उवाच अथाब्रवीद्वासुदेवो रथस्थो; राधेय दिष्ट्या स्मरसीह धर्मम् प्रायेण नीचा व्यसनेषु मग्ना; निन्दन्ति दैवं कुकृतं न तत्तत्

Sañjaya said: Vāsudeva was stationed on his chariot. He said, "O Rādheya! It is fortunate that you remember dharma. Quite often, when they are immersed in hardships, inferior ones censure destiny, but not their evil deeds.

संजय ने कहा: वासुदेव अपने रथ पर तैनात थे। उन्होंने कहा, "हे राधेय! यह सौभाग्य की बात है कि आप धर्म को याद करते हैं। अक्सर, जब वे कठिनाइयों में डूब जाते हैं, तो निम्न लोग भाग्य की निंदा करते हैं, लेकिन अपने बुरे कर्मों की नहीं।

यद्द्रौपदीमेकवस्त्रां सभाया;मानाय्य त्वं चैव सुयोधनश्च दुःशासनः शकुनिः सौबलश्च; न ते कर्ण प्रत्यभात्तत्र धर्मः

O Karṇa! When you, Suyodhana, Duḥśāsana and Śākuni Saubala brought Draupadī to the assembly hall in a single garment, did dharma not show itself to you?

हे कर्ण! जब आप, सुयोधन, दुःशासन और शकुनि सौबल द्रौपदी को एक ही वस्त्र में सभा भवन में लाये, तो क्या धर्म ने आपको प्रकट नहीं किया?

यदा सभायां कौन्तेयमनक्षज्ञं युधिष्ठिरम् अक्षज्ञः शकुनिर्जेता तदा धर्मः क्व ते गतः

When, in the assembly hall, Yudhiṣṭhira, who was not skilled at dice, was defeated by Śākuni, who was skilled at dice, where did dharma go then?

जब, सभा भवन में, युधिष्ठिर, जो पासे में कुशल नहीं थे, शकुनि, जो पासे में कुशल नहीं थे, से हार गए, तब धर्म कहाँ गया था?

यदा रजस्वलां कृष्णां दुःशासनवशे स्थिताम् सभायां प्राहसः कर्ण क्व ते धर्मस्तदा गतः

O Karṇa! During her season, Kṛṣṇā was under Duḥśāsana's subjugation in the assembly hall and you laughed at her. Where did dharma go then?

हे कर्ण! अपने सीज़न के दौरान, कृष्ण सभा हॉल में दु:शासन के अधीन थे और आप उन पर हँसे थे। तब धर्म कहाँ गया?

राज्यलुब्धः पुनः कर्ण समाह्वयसि पाण्डवम् गान्धारराजमाश्रित्य क्व ते धर्मस्तदा गतः

O Karṇa! Resorting to the king of Gāndhāra and coveting the kingdom, you challenged the Pāṇḍava-s. Where did dharma go then?"

हे कर्ण! गांधार के राजा की शरण में जाकर और राज्य की लालसा करके तुमने पांडवों को चुनौती दी। तब धर्म कहाँ गया?”

एवमुक्ते तु राधेये वासुदेवेन पाण्डवम् मन्युरभ्याविशत्तीव्रः स्मृत्वा तत्तद्धनंजयम्

When Vāsudeva addressed Rādheya in this way, Pāṇḍava Dhanañjayā remembered all this and was overcome by great rage.

जब वासुदेव ने राधेय को इस प्रकार संबोधित किया, तो पांडव धनंजय को यह सब याद आया और वह बहुत क्रोधित हो गये।

तस्य क्रोधेन सर्वेभ्यः स्रोतोभ्यस्तेजसोऽर्चिषः प्रादुरासन्महाराज तदद्भुतमिवाभवत्

Energetic flames of anger seemed to issue out from all the pores on his body and it was extraordinary.

उसके शरीर के सभी छिद्रों से क्रोध की ऊर्जावान लपटें निकल रही थीं और यह असाधारण था।

तं समीक्ष्य ततः कर्णो ब्रह्मास्त्रेण धनंजयम् अभ्यवर्षत्पुनर्यत्नमकरोद्रथसर्जने तदस्त्रमस्त्रेणावार्य प्रजहारास्य पाण्डवः

On seeing this, Karṇa again invoked brahmāstra against Dhanañjayā. He showered down arrows and tried to extricate his chariot. Pāṇḍava countered those weapons with his own weapons.

यह देखकर कर्ण ने फिर से धनंजय पर ब्रह्मास्त्र का प्रयोग किया। उसने बाणों की वर्षा की और अपने रथ को निकालने का प्रयत्न किया। पांडव ने उन अस्त्रों का प्रतिकार अपने अस्त्रों से किया।

ततोऽन्यदस्त्रं कौन्तेयो दयितं जातवेदसः मुमोच कर्णमुद्दिश्य तत्प्रजज्वाल वै भृशम्

Kaunteya then released another weapon, beloved of the fire god, towards Karṇa. It blazed fiercely.

फिर कौन्तेय ने अग्नि देवता का प्रिय एक और हथियार कर्ण की ओर छोड़ा। वह भयंकर रूप से धधक उठा।

वारुणेन ततः कर्णः शमयामास पावकम् जीमूतैश्च दिशः सर्वाश्चक्रे तिमिरदुर्दिनाः

Karṇa pacified the fire through a vāruṇa weapon. He covered all the directions with clouds and it was as dark as a rainy day.

कर्ण ने वरुण अस्त्र से अग्नि को शांत किया। उसने सभी दिशाओं को बादलों से ढक दिया और बरसात के दिन जैसा अंधेरा हो गया।

पाण्डवेयस्त्वसंभ्रान्तो वायव्यास्त्रेण वीर्यवान् अपोवाह तदाभ्राणि राधेयस्य प्रपश्यतः

Pāṇḍaveya was not frightened. While Rādheya looked on, the valiant one used the vāyavya weapon and dispelled all the clouds.

पाण्डवेय भयभीत नहीं थे। जब राधेय देखता रहा, तो उस वीर ने वायव्य अस्त्र का प्रयोग किया और सभी बादलों को दूर कर दिया।

तं हस्तिकक्ष्याप्रवरं च बाणैः; सुवर्णमुक्तामणिवज्रमृष्टम् कालप्रयत्नोत्तमशिल्पियत्नैः; कृतं सुरूपं वितमस्कमुच्चैः

The supreme one's standard had the marks of an elephant's housing. It was decorated with gold, pearls, jewels and diamonds. It had been crafted by excellent artisans over a long period of time. It was expensive and beautiful in form.

सर्वोच्च मानक पर हाथी के आवास के निशान थे। इसे सोने, मोतियों, रत्नों और हीरों से सजाया गया था। इसे लंबे समय में उत्कृष्ट कारीगरों द्वारा तैयार किया गया था। यह महँगा और रूप में सुन्दर था।

ऊर्जस्करं तव सैन्यस्य नित्य;ममित्रवित्रासनमीड्यरूपम् विख्यातमादित्यसमस्य लोके; त्विषा समं पावकभानुचन्द्रैः

It always inspired your soldiers and terrified and frightened the enemy. It was renowned in the world and blazed like the sun and the moon.

इसने आपके सैनिकों को सदैव प्रेरित किया तथा शत्रु को भयभीत एवं भयभीत किया। वह जगत् में प्रसिद्ध था और सूर्य तथा चन्द्रमा के समान प्रकाशित था।

ततः क्षुरेणाधिरथेः किरीटी; सुवर्णपुङ्खेन शितेन यत्तः श्रिया ज्वलन्तं ध्वजमुन्ममाथ; महारथस्याधिरथेर्महात्मा

Kirīṭī used a razor-sharp arrow that was gold-tufted and pointed. With that, he brought down the handsome and blazing standard of the great-souled mahāratha, Adhiratha's son.

किरीटी ने एक अत्यंत नुकीले तीर का उपयोग किया जो सोने से जड़ा हुआ और नुकीला था। इसके साथ ही, उन्होंने अधिरथ के पुत्र, महान आत्मा वाले महारथ के सुंदर और उज्ज्वल मानक को ध्वस्त कर दिया।

यशश्च धर्मश्च जयश्च मारिष; प्रियाणि सर्वाणि च तेन केतुना तदा कुरूणां हृदयानि चापत;न्बभूव हाहेति च निस्वनो महान्

O venerable one! When that standard was uprooted, fame, dharma, victory and everything that was dear to the hearts of the Kuru-s also fell down. Great sounds of lamentation arose.

हे आदरणीय! जब वह मानक उखड़ गया, तो यश, धर्म, विजय और वह सब कुछ जो कुरु-वंश के हृदय को प्रिय था, गिर गया। बड़े-बड़े विलाप के स्वर उठने लगे।

अथ त्वरन्कर्णवधाय पाण्डवो; महेन्द्रवज्रानलदण्डसंनिभम् आदत्त पार्थोऽञ्जलिकं निषङ्गा;त्सहस्ररश्मेरिव रश्मिमुत्तमम्

To ensure Karṇa's death, Pāṇḍava took out an añjalikā arrow. It was like the great Indra's vajra, or like a rod that was made out of fire. It blazed in its rays, like the one with one thousand rays.

कर्ण की मृत्यु सुनिश्चित करने के लिए पांडव ने अंजलिका बाण निकाला। यह महान इंद्र के वज्र की तरह था, या आग से बनी छड़ी की तरह था। वह अपनी किरणों से ऐसे चमक रहा था, जैसे एक हजार किरणों वाला हो।

मर्मच्छिदं शोणितमांसदिग्धं; वैश्वानरार्कप्रतिमं महार्हम् नराश्वनागासुहरं त्र्यरत्निं; षड्वाजमञ्जोगतिमुग्रवेगम्

It was capable of penetrating the inner organs and smearing itself with blood and flesh. It was extremely expensive and was like the fire and the sun. It could destroy men, horses and elephants and was three cubits long, with six tufts. It travelled straight and possessed a great force.

यह आंतरिक अंगों में प्रवेश करने और खुद को रक्त और मांस से लथपथ करने में सक्षम था। यह बेहद महंगा था और आग और सूरज की तरह था। यह मनुष्यों, घोड़ों और हाथियों को नष्ट कर सकता था और छह गुच्छों के साथ तीन हाथ लंबा था। यह सीधी यात्रा करता था और इसमें बहुत ताकत थी।

सहस्रनेत्राशनितुल्यतेजसं; समानक्रव्यादमिवातिदुःसहम् पिनाकनारायणचक्रसंनिभं; भयंकरं प्राणभृतां विनाशनम्

In its energy, it was like the vajra of the one with one thousand eyes. It was as difficult to withstand as predatory beasts. It was like the Pināka and Nārāyaṇa's cakra. It was fearful and destructive of living beings.

अपनी ऊर्जा में यह एक हजार आँखों वाले व्यक्ति के वज्र के समान था। इसका सामना करना हिंसक जानवरों जितना ही कठिन था। यह पिनाक और नारायण के चक्र की तरह था। यह प्राणियों के लिए भयावह और विनाशकारी था।

युक्त्वा महास्त्रेण परेण मन्त्रवि;द्विकृष्य गाण्डीवमुवाच सस्वनम् अयं महास्त्रोऽप्रतिमो धृतः शरः; शरीरभिच्चासुहरश्च दुर्हृदः

He invoked mantra-s and affixed that supreme and great weapon to Gāṇḍīva. He loudly said, "I am grasping this great weapon, which is in the form of an arrow. It is extremely difficult to withstand and is capable of destroying the body.

उन्होंने मंत्रों का आह्वान किया और उस सर्वोच्च और महान हथियार को गाण्डीव पर चिपका दिया। उन्होंने जोर से कहा, "मैं इस महान हथियार को पकड़ रहा हूं, जो एक तीर के रूप में है। इसका सामना करना बेहद मुश्किल है और यह शरीर को नष्ट करने में सक्षम है।"

तपोऽस्ति तप्तं गुरवश्च तोषिता; मया यदिष्टं सुहृदां तथा श्रुतम् अनेन सत्येन निहन्त्वयं शरः; सुदंशितः कर्णमरिं ममाजितः

If I have tormented myself through austerities and have satisfied my seniors, if I have listened to what my well-wishers have told me, through that truth, let this arrow slay my armoured enemy, Karṇa, and bring me victory."

यदि मैंने तपस्या के माध्यम से खुद को पीड़ा दी है और अपने वरिष्ठों को संतुष्ट किया है, अगर मैंने अपने शुभचिंतकों द्वारा बताई गई बातों को सुना है, तो उस सत्य के माध्यम से, यह तीर मेरे बख्तरबंद शत्रु कर्ण को मार डाले और मुझे विजय दिलाए।

इत्यूचिवांस्तं स मुमोच बाणं; धनंजयः कर्णवधाय घोरम् कृत्यामथर्वाङ्गिरसीमिवोग्रां; दीप्तामसह्यां युधि मृत्युनापि

Having said this, for the sake of Karṇa's death, Dhanañjayā released that terrible arrow. It was as fierce as rites performed by Atharvan and Aṅgiras. It blazed and was impossible to be endured in a battle, even by Death itself.

ऐसा कहकर कर्ण की मृत्यु के लिये धनंजय ने वह भयानक बाण छोड़ दिया। यह अथर्वण और अंगिरस द्वारा किये गये अनुष्ठानों के समान ही भयंकर था। यह धधक रहा था और युद्ध में इसे सहन करना असंभव था, यहां तक ​​कि मृत्यु से भी।

ब्रुवन्किरीटी तमतिप्रहृष्टो; अयं शरो मे विजयावहोऽस्तु जिघांसुरर्केन्दुसमप्रभावः; कर्णं समाप्तिं नयतां यमाय

Kirīṭī cheerfully said, "Let this arrow bring me victory." Wishing to slay Karṇa, bring about his end and convey him to Yāma, he released the arrow, which was as radiant as the sun and the moon.

किरीटी ने प्रसन्न होकर कहा, "इस बाण से मुझे विजय प्राप्त हो।" कर्ण को मारने, उसका अंत करने और उसे यम के पास पहुंचाने की इच्छा से उसने बाण छोड़ा, जो सूर्य और चंद्रमा के समान देदीप्यमान था।

तेनेषुवर्येण किरीटमाली; प्रहृष्टरूपो विजयावहेन जिघांसुरर्केन्दुसमप्रभेण; चक्रे विषक्तं रिपुमाततायी

Cheerfully, so that he could be conveyed towards victory, the one with the diadem and the garland shot the arrow. It was as radiant as the sun and the moon. He harboured feelings of enmity and wished to slay his enemy.

प्रसन्नतापूर्वक, ताकि उसे विजय की ओर ले जाया जा सके, मुकुट और माला वाले ने तीर चलाया। वह सूर्य और चन्द्रमा के समान दीप्तिमान था। उसके मन में शत्रुता की भावना थी और वह अपने शत्रु को मार डालना चाहता था।

तदुद्यतादित्यसमानवर्चसं; शरन्नभोमध्यगभास्करोपमम् वराङ्गमुर्व्यामपतच्चमूपते;र्दिवाकरोऽस्तादिव रक्तमण्डलः

That weapon, blazing like the sun, was shot. Like the sun, it lit up the earth with its radiance. The head of the commander of the army was severed. Like the sun, with a red disc, it seemed to set.

सूर्य के समान चमकने वाला वह अस्त्र चला गया। उसने सूर्य के समान अपनी चमक से पृथ्वी को प्रकाशित कर दिया। सेनापति का सिर धड़ से अलग कर दिया गया। सूरज की तरह, लाल डिस्क के साथ, वह डूबता हुआ लग रहा था।

तदस्य देही सततं सुखोदितं; स्वरूपमत्यर्थमुदारकर्मणः परेण कृच्छ्रेण शरीरमत्यज;द्गृहं महर्द्धीव ससङ्गमीश्वरः

The body of the one who performed generous deeds was always reared in happiness. Like a person who is reluctant to leave a house filled with great riches, the head parted from the body with great difficulty.

उदार कर्म करने वाले का शरीर सदैव सुख में पलता है। जैसे कोई व्यक्ति अपार धन-संपदा से भरे घर को छोड़ने में अनिच्छुक हो, उसी प्रकार बड़ी कठिनाई से उसका सिर शरीर से अलग हुआ।

शरैर्विभुग्नं व्यसु तद्विवर्मणः; पपात कर्णस्य शरीरमुच्छ्रितम् स्रवद्व्रणं गैरिकतोयविस्रवं; गिरेर्यथा वज्रहतं शिरस्तथा

Without the armour, the body was mangled by arrows and lost its life. Karṇa's body was severed and fell down. Blood oozed from the wounds, like red chalk flowing from the slopes of a mountain, when the summit has been struck by thunder.

कवच के बिना, शरीर तीरों से क्षत-विक्षत हो गया और उसकी जान चली गई। कर्ण का शरीर कटकर गिर पड़ा। घावों से खून बह रहा था, जैसे पहाड़ की ढलानों से लाल चाक बह रहा हो, जब शिखर पर वज्रपात हुआ हो।

देहात्तु कर्णस्य निपातितस्य; तेजो दीप्तं खं विगाह्याचिरेण तदद्भुतं सर्वमनुष्ययोधाः; पश्यन्ति राजन्निहते स्म कर्णे

When Karṇa's body fell down, a flaming mās-s of energy arose and rose up into the sky. O king! When Karṇa was slain, all the men and warriors witnessed this great wonder.

जब कर्ण का शरीर नीचे गिरा, तो ऊर्जा का एक ज्वलंत समूह उभरा और आकाश में उड़ गया। हे राजा! जब कर्ण मारा गया, तो सभी पुरुषों और योद्धाओं ने यह महान आश्चर्य देखा।

तं सोमकाः प्रेक्ष्य हतं शयानं; प्रीता नादं सह सैन्यैरकुर्वन् तूर्याणि चाजघ्नुरतीव हृष्टा; वासांसि चैवादुधुवुर्भुजांश्च बलान्विताश्चाप्यपरे ह्यनृत्य;न्नन्योन्यमाश्लिष्य नदन्त ऊचुः

On seeing that he had been slain and was lying down, with their soldiers, the Somaka-s roared in delight. They joyfully blew on their trumpets and waved their garments and hands around. Other troops danced around. They embraced each other, roaring in delight.

यह देखकर कि वह मारा गया है और अपने सैनिकों के साथ लेटा हुआ है, सोमक खुशी से दहाड़ने लगे। उन्होंने ख़ुशी से अपनी तुरहियाँ बजाईं और अपने कपड़े और हाथ चारों ओर लहराए। अन्य सैनिकों ने चारों ओर नृत्य किया। खुशी से झूमते हुए उन्होंने एक-दूसरे को गले लगा लिया।

दृष्ट्वा तु कर्णं भुवि निष्टनन्तं; हतं रथात्सायकेनावभिन्नम् महानिलेनाग्निमिवापविद्धं; यज्ञावसाने शयने निशान्ते

They saw that Karṇa had been destroyed and was lying down on the ground. The rāṭha had been slain and mangled by the arrows. It was as if the untainted and extinguished fire was lying down in the expansive sky, after the end of a sacrifice.

उन्होंने देखा कि कर्ण नष्ट हो गया है और भूमि पर पड़ा हुआ है। रथ तीरों से मारा गया और क्षत-विक्षत हो गया। ऐसा लग रहा था मानों किसी यज्ञ की समाप्ति के बाद निष्कलंक और बुझी हुई अग्नि विशाल आकाश में पड़ी हो।

शरैराचितसर्वाङ्गः शोणितौघपरिप्लुतः विभाति देहः कर्णस्य स्वरश्मिभिरिवांशुमान्

All his limbs were mangled by arrows and torrents of blood flowed from them. Karṇa's body was beautiful, like the rays of the sun in the firmament.

उनके सभी अंग बाणों से क्षत-विक्षत हो गये और उनसे रक्त की धाराएँ बहने लगीं। कर्ण का शरीर आकाश में सूर्य की किरणों के समान सुन्दर था।

प्रताप्य सेनामामित्रीं दीप्तैः शरगभस्तिभिः बलिनार्जुनकालेन नीतोऽस्तं कर्णभास्करः

He had tormented the soldiers of the enemy with flaming arrows that were like the sun's rays. The powerful Karṇa was like the setting sun, conveyed to death by Arjuna.

उन्होंने सूर्य की किरणों के समान प्रज्वलित बाणों से शत्रु सैनिकों को पीड़ा पहुँचायी थी। शक्तिशाली कर्ण डूबते हुए सूर्य के समान था, जिसे अर्जुन ने मृत्यु तक पहुंचा दिया था।

अस्तं गच्छन्यथादित्यः प्रभामादाय गच्छति एवं जीवितमादाय कर्णस्येषुर्जगाम ह

When the sun sets, all its radiance also departs. Like that, the arrow took away Karṇa's life.

जब सूर्य अस्त होता है तो उसकी सारी चमक भी खत्म हो जाती है। इस प्रकार बाण ने कर्ण के प्राण छीन लिये।

अपराह्णे पराह्णस्य सूतपुत्रस्य मारिष छिन्नमञ्जलिकेनाजौ सोत्सेधमपतच्छिरः

O venerable one! It was the late part of the afternoon then. Severed by the añjalikā in the battle, the head and the body of the son of a sūta fell down.

हे आदरणीय! तब दोपहर का अंतिम समय था। युद्ध में अंजलिका द्वारा सूतपुत्र का सिर और धड़ कटकर गिर गये।

उपर्युपरि सैन्यानां तस्य शत्रोस्तदञ्जसा शिरः कर्णस्य सोत्सेधमिषुः सोऽपाहरद्द्रुतम्

While the soldiers of the enemy looked on, it swiftly severed Karṇa's head and body.

जब तक शत्रु के सैनिक देखते रहे, उसने तेजी से कर्ण का सिर और शरीर अलग कर दिया।

संजय उवाच कर्णं तु शूरं पतितं पृथिव्यां; शराचितं शोणितदिग्धगात्रम् दृष्ट्वा शयानं भुवि मद्रराज;श्छिन्नध्वजेनापययौ रथेन

Sanjay said: The brave Karṇa fell down on the ground. Mangled by arrows, blood flowed out from his body. On seeing that he was lying down on the ground and seeing that the standard had been severed, the king of Madra withdrew on the chariot.

संजय बोले- वीर कर्ण भूमि पर गिर पड़े। बाणों से घायल होकर उसके शरीर से रक्त बहने लगा। यह देखकर कि वह भूमि पर पड़ा हुआ है और यह देखकर कि ध्वज टूट गया है, मद्र देश के राजा रथ पर सवार हो गये।

कर्णे हते कुरवः प्राद्रवन्त; भयार्दिता गाढविद्धाश्च संख्ये अवेक्षमाणा मुहुरर्जुनस्य; ध्वजं महान्तं वपुषा ज्वलन्तम्

When Karṇa was slain, the Kuru-s fled. They were severely struck in the battle and were afflicted with fear. They repeatedly glanced at Arjuna's great standard, blazing in form.

जब कर्ण मारा गया तो कुरु भाग गये। युद्ध में वे बुरी तरह घायल हो गये और भय से पीड़ित हो गये। वे बार-बार अर्जुन के तेजस्वी, महान मानक को देखते रहे।

सहस्रनेत्रप्रतिमानकर्मणः; सहस्रपत्रप्रतिमाननं शुभम् सहस्ररश्मिर्दिनसंक्षये यथा; तथापतत्तस्य शिरो वसुंधराम्

He had performed deeds like those of the one with one thousand eyes. His face was as beautiful as one with one thousand petals. He was like the one with one thousand rays, at the end of the day. Thus did his head fall down on the ground."

उसने एक हजार आँखों वाले व्यक्ति के समान कर्म किये थे। उसका चेहरा एक हजार पंखुड़ियों वाले चेहरे के समान सुंदर था। दिन के अंत में वह एक हजार किरणों वाले व्यक्ति जैसा था। इस प्रकार उसका सिर भूमि पर गिर पड़ा।”
